¹ When* Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to Abram. And he said to him, "I am El-Shaddai;* walk before me and be blameless ² so that* I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you _⌊exceedingly_⌋."* ³ Then Abram fell upon his face and God spoke with him, saying, ⁴ "As for me, behold, my covenant shall be with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. ⁵ Your name shall no longer be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. ⁶ And I will make you _⌊exceedingly_⌋* fruitful. I will make you a nation, and kings shall go out from you. ⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and between your offspring after you, throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be as God for you and to your offspring after you. ⁸ And I will give to you and to your offspring after you _⌊the land in which you are living as an alien_⌋,* all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting property. And I will be to them as God." ⁹ And God said to Abraham, "Now as for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your offspring after you, throughout their generations. ¹⁰ This is my covenant which you shall keep, between me and you, and also with* your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. ¹¹ And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. ¹² And _⌊at eight days of age_⌋* you shall yourselves circumcise every male belonging to your generations and _⌊the servant born in your house and the one bought from any foreigner_⌋* who is not from your offspring. ¹³ _⌊You must certainly circumcise_⌋* _⌊the servant born in your house and the one bought from any foreigner_⌋.* And my covenant shall be with your flesh as an everlasting covenant. ¹⁴ And as for any uncircumcised male who has not circumcised the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his* people. He has broken my covenant. ¹⁵ And God said to Abraham, "as for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, for Sarah shall be her name. ¹⁶ And I will bless her; moreover, I give to you from her a son. And I will bless her, and _⌊she shall give rise to nations_⌋.* Kings of peoples shall come* from her." ¹⁷ And Abraham fell upon his face and laughed. And he said in his heart, "_⌊Can a child be born to a man a hundred years old_⌋,* or _⌊can Sarah bear a child at ninety_⌋?"* ¹⁸ And Abraham said to God, "Oh that Ishmael might live before you!" ¹⁹ And God said, "No, but Sarah your wife shall bear a son for you, and you shall call his name Isaac. And I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant to his offspring after him. ²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I will bless him and I will make him fruitful, and I will multiply him _⌊exceedingly_⌋.* He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. ²¹ But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this appointed time next year." ²² When* he finished speaking with him, God went up from Abraham. ²³ And Abraham took Ishmael his son and all who were born of his house, and all those acquired by his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on the same day that God spoke with him. ²⁴ Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he circumcised the flesh of his foreskin. ²⁵ And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he circumcised the flesh of his foreskin. ²⁶ Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised on the same day. ²⁷ And all the men of his house, _⌊those born in the house, and those acquired by money from a foreigner_⌋,* were circumcised with him.

²² And Enoch walked with God after he fathered Methuselah three hundred years, and fathered sons and daughters.

²⁴ And Enoch walked with God, and he was no more, for God took him.

⁹ These are the generations* of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, without defect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

¹ And Yahweh said to Abram, "Go out from your land and from your relatives, and from the house of your father, to the land that I will show you.

⁷ And Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." And he built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.

¹⁶ And Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.

¹ And Yahweh appeared to him* by the oaks of Mamre. And he was sitting in the doorway of the tent at the heat of the day.

¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for Yahweh? At the appointed time I will return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋* and Sarah shall have a son."

³ Now, may El-Shaddai* bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, so that you become an assembly of peoples.

¹¹ And God said to him, "I am El-Shaddai.* Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and an assemblage of nations shall be from you, and kings shall go out from your loins.

¹⁵ And he blessed Joseph and said,
"The God before whom my fathers, Abraham and Isaac, walked, The God who shepherded me _⌊all my life_⌋* unto this day,

³ And I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Shaddai,* but by my name Yahweh I was not known to them.

²³ And Yahweh said to Moses, "_⌊Is Yahweh's power limited_⌋?* Now you will see if my word will happen or not."

¹⁷ For Yahweh your God, he is God of the gods and Lord of the lords, the great and mighty God, the awesome one who _⌊is not partial_⌋,* and he does not take bribes.

¹³ You must be blameless before Yahweh your God.

⁴ so that Yahweh may establish his word which he spoke concerning me, saying, 'If your sons take heed of their way, to walk before me in faithfulness, with all their heart and with all their soul, no man of yours will be cut off from the throne of Israel.'"

⁶ Then Solomon said, "You have shown great loyal love with your servant David my father, as he walked before you in faithfulness and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with you. You have shown for him this great loyal love, and you have given a son to him who is sitting on his throne as it is this day.

²⁵ So then, O Yahweh, God of Israel, keep for your servant David my father what you promised to him, saying, 'For you, no man will be cut off from before me who will be sitting on the throne of Israel, if only your sons keep their ways to walk before me just as you have walked before me.'

³ "O Yahweh, please remember how I went about before you in faithfulness and with a whole heart, and remember the good that I have done in your eyes." Then Hezekiah _⌊wept bitterly_⌋.*

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz whose* name was Job. That* man was blameless and upright and God-fearing and turning away from evil.

⁷ "Can you find out the essence of God, or can you find out _⌊the ultimate limits_⌋* of Shaddai?

³ But our God is in the heavens; all that he desires, he does.

⁹ I will walk before Yahweh in the land* of the living.

³ and he said, "O Yahweh, please remember how* I have walked before your _⌊presence_⌋* in faithfulness with a whole heart, and I have done the good in your eyes!" And Hezekiah wept with great weeping.

¹⁷ 'Ah Lord Yahweh! Look, you made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm. _⌊Nothing_⌋* is too difficult for you,

³⁵ And all the dwellers of the earth are regarded as nothing, and he does _⌊according to_⌋* his desire in the host of heaven and among the dwellers of earth, and there is not one who can hold back his hand, or _⌊ask him_⌋,* 'What are you doing?'

⁸ He has told you, O mortal, what is good, and what does Yahweh ask from you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

⁴⁸ Therefore you be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.

²⁶ But Jesus looked at them* and* said to them, "With human beings this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

⁶ And they were both righteous in the sight of God, living blamelessly in all the commandments and regulations of the Lord.

¹ And looking intently at the Sanhedrin, Paul said, "Men and brothers, I have lived my life in all good conscience before God to this day."

¹⁶ _⌊For this reason_⌋* also I myself _⌊always_⌋* do my best to have a clear conscience toward God and people.

²⁰ Now to the one who is able to do beyond all measure more than all that we ask or think, according to the power that is at work in us,

¹³ I am able to do all things by the one who strengthens me.

²⁵ Therefore also he is able to save completely those who draw near to God through him, because he* always lives in order to intercede on their behalf.

²⁸ Therefore, since we* are receiving an unshakable kingdom, let us be thankful, through which let us serve God acceptably, with awe and reverence.

⁹ "As for me, behold, I am establishing my covenant with you and with your seed after you,

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted.

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river,

⁴ "As for me, behold, my covenant shall be with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. ⁵ Your name shall no longer be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations. ⁶ And I will make you _⌊exceedingly_⌋* fruitful. I will make you a nation, and kings shall go out from you.

¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies.

⁸ He remembers his covenant forever, the word that he commanded for a thousand generations, ⁹ that he made with Abraham, and by his oath swore to Isaac. ¹⁰ He then confirmed it to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant, ¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the allotment that is your* inheritance."

¹⁷ Now I am saying this: the law, that came after four hundred and thirty years, does not revoke a covenant previously ratified by God, in order to nullify the promise. ¹⁸ For if the inheritance is from the law, it is no longer from the promise, but God graciously gave it to Abraham through the promise.

¹⁷ And Abraham fell upon his face and laughed. And he said in his heart, "_⌊Can a child be born to a man a hundred years old_⌋,* or _⌊can Sarah bear a child at ninety_⌋?"*

⁶ And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face because he was afraid of looking at God.

²³ Then* Moses and Aaron entered the tent of assembly. When* they came out, they blessed* the people, and Yahweh's glory appeared to all the people. ²⁴ Then* a fire went out _⌊from before_⌋* Yahweh, and it consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And all the people saw it, so* they shouted for joy, and they fell on their faces.

⁵ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces _⌊before_⌋* the assembly of the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.*

²² And they fell on their faces, and they said, "God, God of the spirits of all flesh, will one man sin and you become angry toward the entire community?"

⁴⁵ "Get away from the midst of this community, and I will finish them in an instant,"* but they fell on their faces.

¹⁴ And he said, "Neither. I have come now as the commander of Yahweh's army." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and _⌊he bowed down_⌋* and said to him, "What is my lord commanding his servant?"

²⁰ And when the flame went up toward the heaven from the altar, the angel of Yahweh went up in the flame of the altar to heaven while Manoah and his wife were watching. And they fell on their faces to the ground.

³⁹ When all the people saw, they fell on their faces and said, "Yahweh, he is God! Yahweh, he is God!"

²⁸ Like the appearance* of a bow that is in the cloud on _⌊a rainy day_⌋,* such was the radiance* around it; thus was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Yahweh. And I saw, and I fell on my face, and I heard a voice speaking.

²³ And I rose up, and I went to the valley, and, look, there the glory of Yahweh was standing, like the glory that I saw near the _⌊Kebar River_⌋,* and I fell on my face.

⁸ _⌊And then_⌋* _⌊as they were striking_⌋,* and I was left behind, I fell on my face, and I cried out, and I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh! "Will you be destroying all of the remnant of Israel _⌊while you pour out your rage_⌋* on Jerusalem?"

¹⁷ And he came beside _⌊where I was standing_⌋,* and _⌊when he came_⌋* I became terrified and I fell prostrate on my face. And he said to me, "Understand, son of man,* that the vision is for the time of the end." ¹⁸ And _⌊when he spoke_⌋* with me I fell into a trance with my face to the ground, and he touched me and made me stand on by feet.

⁹ And I heard the sound of his words, and _⌊when I heard_⌋* the sound of his words I myself began falling into a trance on my face, _⌊with my face to the ground_⌋.*

⁶ And when* the disciples heard this,* they fell down on their faces and were extremely frightened.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

¹⁰ And the angel of Yahweh said to her, "_⌊I will greatly multiply_⌋* your offspring, so that they cannot be counted for their abundance."

¹ Now Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah. ² And she bore to him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. ³ And Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim and Letushim and Leummim. ⁴ And the sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abidah, and Eldaah. All of these were the children of Keturah. ⁵ And Abraham gave all he had to Isaac. ⁶ But to the sons of Abraham's concubines Abraham gave gifts. And while he was still living he sent them away eastward, away from his son Isaac, to the land of the east. ⁷ Now these are the days of the years of _⌊the life of Abraham_⌋:* one hundred and seventy-five years. ⁸ And Abraham passed away and died in a good old age, old and full of years. And he was gathered to his people. ⁹ And Isaac and Ishmael his sons buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, son of Zohar the Hittite, that was east of Mamre, ¹⁰ the field that Abraham had bought from the Hittites.* There Abraham was buried and Sarah his wife. ¹¹ And it happened that after the death of Abraham God blessed Isaac his son, and Isaac settled at Beer-Lahai-Roi. ¹² Now these are the generations* of Ishmael, the son of Abraham, that Hagar the Egyptian, the maidservant of Sarah, bore to Abraham. ¹³ And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names according to their family records. The firstborn of Ishmael was Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, ¹⁴ Mishma, Dumah, Massa, ¹⁵ Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. ¹⁶ These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names by their villages and by their encampments—12 leaders according to their tribes. ¹⁷ Now these are the years of the life of Ishmael: 137 years. And he passed away and died, and was gathered to his people. ¹⁸ They settled from Havilah to Shur, which was opposite* Egypt, going toward Asshur, opposite;* he _⌊settled_⌋* opposite* all his brothers.

¹² Now you yourself said, 'I will surely deal well with you and make your offspring as the sand of the sea that cannot be counted for abundance.'"

¹ Now these are the descendants of Esau (that is, Edom). ² Esau took his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah, daughter of Elon, the Hittite, and Oholibamah, daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, the Hivite, ³ and Basemath, the daughter of Ishmael, the sister of Nebaioth. ⁴ And Adah bore to Esau Eliphaz; and Basemath bore Reuel; ⁵ and Oholibamah bore Jeush and Jalam, and Korah. These are the sons of Esau who were born to him in the land of Canaan. ⁶ And Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters, and all the persons of his household, and his sheep and goats, and all his cattle, and all the goods that he had acquired in the land of Canaan, and went to a land away from his brother Jacob. ⁷ For their possessions were _⌊too many to live together_⌋,* so that the land of their sojourning was not able to support them on account of their livestock. ⁸ So Esau dwelled in the hill country of Seir (Esau, that is Edom). ⁹ Now these are the descendants of Esau, the father of Edom, in the hill country of Seir. ¹⁰ These are the names of the sons of Esau: Eliphaz, the son of Adah, the wife of Esau; Reuel, the son of Basemath, the wife of Esau. ¹¹ The sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz. ¹² (Now Timnah was the concubine of Eliphaz, the son of Esau. And she bore Amalek to Eliphaz.) These are the sons of Adah, the wife of Esau. ¹³ Now these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the sons of Basemath, the wife of Esau. ¹⁴ Now these are the sons of Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, daughter of Zibeon, the wife of Esau: She bore to Esau Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. ¹⁵ These are the chiefs of the sons of Esau. The sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn of Esau: the chiefs of Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz, ¹⁶ Korah, Gatam, and Amalek. These are the chiefs of Eliphaz in the land of Edom. These are the sons of Adah. ¹⁷ Now these are the sons Reuel, the son of Esau: the chiefs Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the chiefs of Reuel in the land of Edom. These are the sons of Basemath, the wife of Esau. ¹⁸ Now these are the sons of Oholibamah, the wife of Esau: the chiefs Jeush, Jalam, and Korah. These are the chiefs born of Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the wife of Esau. ¹⁹ These are the sons of Esau, and these are their chiefs (that is, Edom). ²⁰ These are the sons of Seir, the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, ²¹ Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These are the chiefs of the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom. ²² And the sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam. And Lotan's sister was Timna. ²³ Now these are the sons of Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. ²⁴ Now these are the sons of Zibeon: Aiah and Anah—he is Anah who found the hot springs in the desert while he pastured the donkeys of Zibeon his father. ²⁵ Now these are the sons of Anah: Dishon and Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah. ²⁶ Now these are the sons of Dishon: Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Keran. ²⁷ These are the sons of Ezer: Bilhan, Zaavan, and Akan. ²⁸ These are the sons of Dishan: Uz and Aran. ²⁹ These are the chiefs of the Horites: the chiefs Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah, ³⁰ Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These are the chiefs of the Horites, according to their chiefs in the land of Seir. ³¹ Now these are the kings who reigned in the land of Edom before any king ruled over the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ³² Bela the son of Beor reigned in Edom. And the name of his city was Dinhabah. ³³ And Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah from Bozrah, reigned in his place. ³⁴ And Jobab died, and Husham from the land of the Temanites reigned in his place. ³⁵ And Husham died, and Hadad, son of Bedad, who defeated Midian in the field* of Moab reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Avith. ³⁶ And Hadad died, and Samlah from Masrekah reigned in his place. ³⁷ And Samlah died, and Shaul from Rehoboth on the Euphrates* reigned in his place. ³⁸ And Shaul died, and Baal-Hanan, the son of Acbor, reigned in his place. ³⁹ And Baal-Hanan the son of Acbor died, and Hadar reigned in his place. And the name of his city was Pau, and the name of his wife was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab. ⁴⁰ Now these are the names of the chiefs of Esau according to their families, according to their dwelling places, by their names: the chiefs Timna, Alvah, Jetheth, ⁴¹ Oholibamah, Elah, Pinon, ⁴² Kenaz, Teman, Mibzar, ⁴³ Magdiel, and Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom (that is, Esau, the father of Edom) according to their settlements in the land of their possession.

¹⁹ But his father refused and said, "I know, my son; I know. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great, but his younger brother shall be greater than him, and his offspring shall become a multitude of nations."

¹ Yahweh spoke to Moses in the desert of Sinai, in the tent of assembly, on the first of the month, in the second year _⌊after they came out_⌋* of the land of Egypt, saying, ² "_⌊Take a census of_⌋* the entire community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* according to their clans and _⌊their families_⌋,* according to the number of names, every male individually ³ from _⌊twenty years old_⌋* and above, everyone in Israel who is able to go to war. You and Aaron must muster them* for their wars. ⁴ A man from each tribe will be with you, each man the head of _⌊his family_⌋.* ⁵ And these are the names of the men who will _⌊assist you_⌋:* from Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur; ⁶ from Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai; ⁷ from Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab; ⁸ from Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar; ⁹ from Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon. ¹⁰ From the descendants of Joseph: from Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; from Manasseh, Gamaliel son of Pedahzur. ¹¹ From Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni; ¹² from Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai; ¹³ from Asher, Pagiel son of Ocran; ¹⁴ from Gad, Eliasaph son of Deuel; ¹⁵ and from Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan." ¹⁶ These are the ones summoned from the community, the leaders of their ancestors'* tribes; they are the heads of Israel's clans. ¹⁷ So Moses and Aaron took these men who had been designated by name, ¹⁸ and they summoned the entire community on the first day of the second month. And they registered themselves among their clans according to _⌊their families_⌋,* according to the number of names from _⌊those twenty years old_⌋* and above individually, ¹⁹ just as Yahweh commanded Moses. They will carry the tabernacle and all its vessels, and they will care for it; and they will camp around the tabernacle. ⁵¹ And when the tabernacle is set out, the Levites will _⌊take it down_⌋,* and when encamping the tabernacle the Levites will set it up; the stranger* that approaches it will be put to death. ⁵² The _⌊Israelites_⌋* will encamp, each in their own camp, and each by their* own banner according to their divisions. ⁵³ But the Levites will encamp around the tabernacle of the testimony,* and there will not be wrath on the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋;* and the Levites will keep the requirements of the tabernacle of the testimony."* ⁵⁴ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did thus; they did everything that Yahweh commanded Moses.

¹ * And it happened after the plague, *Yahweh said to Moses and to Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, saying, ² "_⌊Take a census_⌋* of the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* from _⌊those twenty years old_⌋* and above, according to _⌊their families_⌋,* all who are able to go out to war in Israel." ³ So Moses and Eleazar the priest spoke with them on the desert-plateau of Moab by the Jordan across from Jericho, saying, ⁴ "Take a census of the community from _⌊those twenty years old_⌋* and above, just as Yahweh commanded Moses."
The Israelites who went out from the land of Egypt were: ⁵ Reuben, the firstborn of Israel, the descendants* of Reuben: of Hanoch, the clan of the Hanochites; of Pallu, the clan of the Palluites;* ⁶ of Hezron, the clan of the Hezronites;* of Carmi, the clan of the Carmites.* ⁷ These are the clans of the Reubenites,* and the ones counted of them were forty-three thousand seven hundred and thirty. ⁸ The children of Pallu: Eliab. ⁹ The children of Eliab: Nemuel, Dathan, and Abiram. These are the same Dathan and Abiram who were appointed of the community, who rebelled against Moses and Aaron in the company of Korah, when they rebelled against Yahweh, ¹⁰ and the land opened its mouth and swallowed them with Korah, when that company died, when the fire consumed two hundred and fifty men, and they were a sign.* ¹¹ The children* of Korah, however, did not die. ¹² The descendants* of Simeon, according to their clans: of Nemuel, the clan of the Nemuelites;* of Jamin, the clan of the Jaminites;* of Jakin, the clan of the Jakinites;* ¹³ of Zerah, the clan of the Zerahites;* of Shaul, the clan of the Shaulites.* ¹⁴ These were the clans of the Simeonites,* twenty-two thousand two hundred. ¹⁵ The descendants* of Gad according to their clans: of Zephon, the clan of the Zephonites;* of Haggi, the clan of the Haggites;* of Shuni, the clan of the Shunites;* ¹⁶ of Ozni, the clan of the Oznites;* of Eri, the clan of the Erites;* ¹⁷ of Arod, the clan of the Arodites;* of Areli, the clan of the Arelites;* ¹⁸ These were the clans of the descendants* of Gad according to the ones counted of them, forty thousand five hundred. ¹⁹ The sons of Judah: Er and Onan; but Er and Onan died in the land of Canaan. ²⁰ The descendants* of Judah according to their clans were: of Shelah, the clan of the Shelanites;* of Perez, the clan of the Perezites;* of Zerah, the clan of the Zerahites.* ²¹ The children of Perez were: of Hezron, the clan of the Hezronites;* of Hamul, the clan of the Hamulites.* ²² These were the clans of Judah according to the ones counted of them, seventy-six thousand five hundred. ²³ The descendants* of Issachar according to their clans: of Tola, the clan of the Tolaites;* of Puvah, the clan of the Punites;* ²⁴ of Jashub, the clans of the Jashubites;* of Shimron, the clan of the Shimronites.* ²⁵ These were the clans of Issachar according to the ones counted of them, sixty-four thousand three hundred. ²⁶ The descendants* of Zebulun according to their clans: of Sered, the clan of the Seredites;* of Elon, the clan of the Elonites;* of Jahleel, the clan of the Jahleelites.* ²⁷ These were the clans of the Zebulunites* according to the ones counted of them, sixty thousand five hundred. ²⁸ The descendants* of Joseph according to their clans: Manasseh and Ephraim. ²⁹ The descendants* of Manasseh: of Makir, the clan of the Makirites.* And Makir fathered Gilead; of Gilead, the clan of the Gileadites.* ³⁰ These were the descendants* of Gilead: of Iezer, the clan of the Iezerites;* of Helek, the clan of the Helekites;* ³¹ and of Asriel, the clan of the Asrielites;* and of Shechem, the clan of the Shechemites;* ³² and of Shemida, the clan of the Shemidaites;* and of Hepher, the clan of the Hepherites.* ³³ Zelophehad son of Hepher did not have sons, but only daughters; and the names* of the daughters of Zelophehad were Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. ³⁴ These were the clans of Manasseh, and the ones counted of them were fifty-two thousand seven hundred. ³⁵ These were the descendants* of Ephraim according to their clans: of Shuthelah, the clan of the Shuthelahites;* of Beker, the clan of the Bekerites;* of Tahan, the clan of the Tahanites.* ³⁶ And these were the descendants* of Shuthelah: of Eran, the family of the Eranites.* ³⁷ These were the clans of the descendants* of Ephraim according to the ones counted of them, thirty-two thousand five hundred. These were the descendants* of Joseph according to their clans. ³⁸ The descendants* of Benjamin according to their clans: of Bela, the clan of the Belaites;* of Ashbel, the clan of the Ashbelites;* of Ahiram, the clan of the Ahiramites;* ³⁹ of Shephupham, the clan of the Shuphamites;* of Hupham, the clan of the Huphamites.* ⁴⁰ The sons of Bela were Ard and Naaman: of Ard, the clan of the Ardites;* of Naaman, the clan of the Naamites.* ⁴¹ These were the descendants* of Benjamin according to their clans. And the ones counted of them were forty-five thousand six hundred. ⁴² These were the descendants* of Dan according to their clans: of Shuham, the clan of the Shuhamites.* These were the clans of Dan according to their clans. ⁴³ All the clans of the Shuhamites,* according to the ones counted of them, were sixty-four thousand four hundred. ⁴⁴ The descendants* of Asher according to their clans: of Imnah, the clan of the Imnahites;* of Ishvi, the clan of the Ishvites;* of Beriah, the clan of the Beriahites.* ⁴⁵ The descendants* of Beriah: of Heber, the clan of the Heberites;* of Malkiel, the clan of the Malkielites.* ⁴⁶ The name of the daughter of Asher was Serah. ⁴⁷ These were the clans of the descendants* of Asher according to the ones counted of them, fifty-three thousand four hundred. ⁴⁸ The descendants* of Naphtali according to their clans: of Jahzeel, the clan of the Jahzeelites;* of Guni, the clan of the Gunites;* ⁴⁹ of Jezer, the clan of the Jezerites;* of Shillem, the clan of the Shillemites.* ⁵⁰ These were the clans of Naphtali according to their clans, the ones counted of them, forty-five thousand four hundred. ⁵¹ These were the ones counted of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* six hundred and one thousand seven hundred and thirty. ⁵² Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ⁵³ "For these the land must be divided as an inheritance according to the number of names. ⁵⁴ For the larger group you must increase their inheritance, and for the smaller group you must make smaller their inheritance; each must be given _⌊their_⌋* inheritance according to the number of the ones counted of them. ⁵⁵ Surely the land will be divided by lot. They will inherit according to the names of the tribes of their ancestors.* ⁵⁶ _⌊Their_⌋* inheritance must be divided according to the lot between the larger and smaller groups." ⁵⁷ These are the ones counted of the Levites according to their clans: of Gershon, the clan of the Gershonites;* of Kohath, the clan of the Kohathites;* of Merari, the clan of the Merarites.* ⁵⁸ These are the clans of Levi: the clan of the Libnites,* the clan of the Hebronites,* the clan of the Mahlites,* the clan of the Mushites,* the clan of the Korahites.* Kohath fathered Amram. ⁵⁹ The name of the wife of Amram was Jochebed, the daughter of Levi, whose mother bore her for Levi in Egypt; she bore to Amram: Aaron and Moses and their sister Miriam. ⁶⁰ To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar. ⁶¹ But Nadab and Abihu died when they presented strange fire _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh. ⁶² The ones counted were twenty-three thousand, every male from _⌊a month old_⌋* and above, because they were not counted in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* since no inheritance was given to them in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ⁶³ These were the ones counted by Moses and Eleazar the priest, who counted the _⌊Israelites_⌋* on the desert-plateau of Moab on the Jordan across Jericho. ⁶⁴ And among these there was not a man of those counted by Moses and Aaron the priest, who counted the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in the desert of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For Yahweh said to them, "They will surely die in the desert." And not a man was left over from them, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal* of the righteousness by faith which he had _⌊while uncircumcised_⌋*, so that he could be the father of all who believe _⌊although they are uncircumcised_⌋*, so that righteousness could be credited to them,* ¹² and the father _⌊of those who are circumcised_⌋* to those who are not only from the circumcision, but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith of our father Abraham _⌊which he had while uncircumcised_⌋*. ¹³ For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants, that he would be heir of the world, was not through the law, but through the righteousness by faith. ¹⁴ For if those of the law are heirs, faith is rendered void and the promise is nullified. ¹⁵ For the law produces wrath, but where there is no law, neither is there transgression. ¹⁶ Because of this, it is by faith, in order that it may be according to grace, so that the promise may be secure to all the descendants, not only to those of the law, but also to those of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all ¹⁷ (just as it is written, "I have made you the father of many nations")* before God, in whom he believed, the one who makes the dead alive and who calls the things that are not as though they are, ¹⁸ who against hope believed in hope, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was said, "so will your descendants be."*

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. ²⁹ And if you are Christ's, then you are descendants of Abraham, heirs according to the promise.

¹⁵ And God said to Abraham, "as for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, for Sarah shall be her name.

²⁸ And he said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel,* for you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed."

¹⁶ These are the names of the men whom Moses sent to explore the land. And Moses called Hoshea son of Nun Joshua.

²⁵ He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet, so he called him Jedidiah* because of Yahweh.

⁷ You are Yahweh, the God who chose Abram and brought him from Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham.

² And the nations shall see your righteousness, and all the kings your glory, and _⌊you will be called_⌋* a new name that the mouth of Yahweh will designate. ³ And you shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of Yahweh, and a headband of royalty in the hand of your God. ⁴ It shall no longer be said of you, "Forsaken," and it shall no longer be said of your land, "Desolation!" but _⌊you will_⌋* be called "My Delight Is In Her," and your land, "Married," for Yahweh delights in you, and your land shall be married.

¹⁵ And you shall leave your name to my chosen ones as a curse, and the Lord Yahweh will kill you, and he will _⌊give_⌋* his servants another name.

³ _⌊And then_⌋* on the next day, when Pashhur brought Jeremiah out from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, "Yahweh will not call your name Pashhur, _⌊but_⌋* Terror From All Around.

⁶ In his days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell _⌊in safety_⌋,* and this is his name by which he will be called: 'Yahweh is our righteousness.'

²¹ And she will give birth to a son, and you will call his name 'Jesus,' because he will save his people from their sins." ²² Now all this happened in order that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet would be fulfilled, saying, ²³ "Behold, the virgin _⌊will become pregnant_⌋* and will give birth to a son, and they will call his name Emmanuel,"*
which is translated, "God with us."*

⁴² He brought him to Jesus. Looking at him, Jesus said, "You are Simon the son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which is interpreted "Peter").

¹⁷ (just as it is written, "I have made you the father of many nations")* before God, in whom he believed, the one who makes the dead alive and who calls the things that are not as though they are,

¹⁷ The one who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers, I will give to him some of the hidden manna, and I will give to him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written, that no one knows except the one who receives it.'

⁴ "As for me, behold, my covenant shall be with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations.

¹⁶ And I will bless her; moreover, I give to you from her a son. And I will bless her, and _⌊she shall give rise to nations_⌋.* Kings of peoples shall come* from her."

²⁰ And as for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I will bless him and I will make him fruitful, and I will multiply him _⌊exceedingly_⌋.* He shall father twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

²⁰ Mighty kings have ruled over Jerusalem, governing all the province Beyond the River, to whom tribute, duty, and tax has been given.

⁶ and Jesse became the father of David the king.
And David became the father of Solomon by the wife* of Uriah, ⁷ and Solomon became the father of Rehoboam, and Rehoboam became the father of Abijah, and Abijah became the father of Asa,* ⁸ and Asa became the father of Jehoshaphat,* and Jehoshaphat became the father of Joram, and Joram became the father of Uzziah, ⁹ and Uzziah became the father of Jotham, and Jotham became the father of Ahaz, and Ahaz became the father of Hezekiah, ¹⁰ and Hezekiah became the father of Manasseh, and Manasseh became the father of Amon,* and Amon became the father of Josiah, ¹¹ and Josiah became the father of Jechoniah and his brothers, at the time of the deportation to Babylon. ¹² And after the deportation to Babylon, Jechoniah became the father of Shealtiel,* and Shealtiel became the father of Zerubbabel, ¹³ and Zerubbabel became the father of Abiud, and Abiud became the father of Eliakim, and Eliakim became the father of Azor, ¹⁴ and Azor became the father of Zadok, and Zadok became the father of Achim, and Achim became the father of Eliud, ¹⁵ and Eliud became the father of Eleazar, and Eleazar became the father of Matthan, and Matthan became the father of Jacob, ¹⁶ and Jacob became the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary by whom* was born Jesus, who is called Christ. ¹⁷ Therefore all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ are fourteen generations.

²⁴ And Yahweh appeared to him that night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid, for I am with you, and I will bless you and make your descendants numerous for the sake of my servant Abraham."

¹³ And behold, Yahweh was standing beside him,* and he said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you were sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants.

¹⁵ And God said again to Moses, "So you must say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is my name forever, and this is my remembrance from generation to generation.'

⁴ And I not only established my covenant with them to give to them the land of Canaan, the land of their sojournings, in which they dwelt as aliens,

⁵ And now if you will carefully listen to my voice and keep my covenant, you will be a treasured possession for me out of all the peoples, _⌊for all the earth is mine_⌋,* ⁶ but you, you will belong to me as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you will speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋."*

¹² And I will walk about in your midst, and I shall be your God,* and you shall be my people.*

¹⁰ I am Yahweh your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.

²⁶ And they will live on it in safety, and they will build houses, and they will plant vineyards, and they will live in safety when I execute my judgments on all _⌊those who despise them from all around them_⌋,* and then they will know that I am Yahweh their God."

²⁰ You will show faithfulness to Jacob, and loyal love to Abraham, as you have sworn to our ancestors* from the days of old.

³² "I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob"?* He is not the God of the dead, but of the living!"

¹⁴ But when* Jesus saw it,* he was indignant, and said to them, "Let the young children come to me. Do not forbid them, _⌊for to such belongs_⌋* the kingdom of God.

⁵⁴ He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, ⁵⁵ just as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants _⌊forever_⌋."*

⁷² to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant, ⁷³ the oath that he swore to Abraham our father, to grant us ⁷⁴ that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, could serve him without fear ⁷⁵ in holiness and righteousness before him all our days.

³⁹ For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all those who are far away, as many as the Lord our God calls to himself."

⁴ who are Israelites, to whom belong the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the temple service, and the promises,

⁷ nor are they all children because they are descendants of Abraham, but "In Isaac will your descendants be named."* ⁸ That is, it is not the children _⌊by human descent_⌋* who are children of God, but the children of the promise are counted as descendants. ⁹ For the statement of the promise is this: "At this time I will return and _⌊Sarah will have_⌋* a son."*

¹⁶ Now to Abraham and to his descendant the promises were spoken. It does not say, "and to descendants," as concerning many, but as concerning one, "and to your descendant,"* who is Christ. ¹⁷ Now I am saying this: the law, that came after four hundred and thirty years, does not revoke a covenant previously ratified by God, in order to nullify the promise.

² in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the ruler of the authority of the air, the spirit now working in the sons of disobedience,

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will decree with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I am putting my laws in their minds and I will write them on their hearts, and I will be _⌊their_⌋* God and they will be _⌊my_⌋* people.

¹⁶ But now they aspire to a better land, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever.

¹⁷ Arise, go through the length of the land and through its breadth, for I will give it to you."

⁷ And he said to him, "I am Yahweh, who brought you out from Ur of the Chaldeans to give this land to you, to possess it." ⁸ And he said, "O Yahweh God, how shall I know that I will possess it?" ⁹ And he said to him, "Take for me a three-year-old heifer, and a three-year-old female goat, and a three-year-old ram, and a turtledove and a young pigeon." ¹⁰ And he took for him all these and cut them in pieces down the middle. And he put each piece opposite _⌊the other_⌋,* but the birds he did not cut. ¹¹ And the birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away. ¹² And it happened, as the sun _⌊went down_⌋,* then a deep sleep fell upon Abram and, behold, a great terrifying darkness fell upon him. ¹³ And he said to Abram, "_⌊You must surely know_⌋* that your descendants shall be as aliens in a land _⌊not their own_⌋.* And they shall serve them* and they* shall oppress them four hundred years. ¹⁴ And also the nation that they* serve I will judge. Then* afterward they shall go out with great possessions. ¹⁵ And as for you, you shall go to your ancestors* in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. ¹⁶ And the fourth generation shall return here, for the guilt of the Amorites _⌊is not yet complete_⌋."* ¹⁷ And after the sun had gone down and it was dusk, behold, a smoking firepot and a flaming torch passed between those half pieces. ¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

⁴ "I am a stranger and an alien among you; give to me _⌊my own burial site_⌋* among you so that I may bury my dead from before me."

⁴ And may he give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojourning, which God gave to Abraham."

⁴ and said to me, 'Behold, I will make you fruitful and make you numerous, and will make you a company of nations. And I will give this land to your offspring after you as an everlasting possession.'

⁷ And I will take you _⌊as my people_⌋,* and I will be _⌊your God_⌋,* and you will know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the _⌊forced labor_⌋* of Egypt.

⁶ his master will present him to God* and bring him to the door or to the doorpost, and his master will pierce his ear with an awl, and he will serve him forever.

¹⁶ The _⌊Israelites_⌋* will pay attention to the Sabbath in order to fulfill the Sabbath* throughout their generations as a lasting covenant. ¹⁷ It is a sign between me and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* forever, because in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh he ceased* and recovered."*

¹⁵ And you will anoint them as you anointed their father, and they will serve as priests for me. And their anointing will be for them to be a lasting priesthood* throughout their generations."

³⁴ And this shall be _⌊a lasting statute_⌋* for you to make atonement for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* one time in a year from all their sins."

¹³ and it will be for him and his _⌊offspring_⌋* after him a covenant of an eternal priesthood because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the _⌊Israelites_⌋.'"*

³⁷ And because he loved your ancestors* he chose their _⌊descendants_⌋* after them. And he brought you forth from Egypt _⌊with his own presence_⌋,* by his great strength,

² For you are a people holy to Yahweh your God, and you Yahweh has chosen to be a treasured possession from among all of the peoples that are on the surface* of the earth.

¹⁸ And Yahweh has declared you _⌊today_⌋* to be for him as a people, a treasured possession, as he _⌊promised_⌋* to you, and that you are to observe all his commandments,

¹³ in order to establish you _⌊today_⌋* _⌊to himself_⌋* as a people and so that he may be for you as God, just as he _⌊promised_⌋* to you and _⌊just as_⌋* he swore to your ancestors,* to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

⁸ _⌊When the Most High apportioned_⌋* the nations, at his dividing up of the sons of humankind, he fixed the boundaries of the peoples, according to the number of the children of Israel.*

⁵ Yet not so is my house with God, for he made an everlasting covenant for me, arranging everything. He has secured all my deliverance, and all my desire he will cause to happen.

¹⁷ But the loyal love of Yahweh is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear him, and his righteousness to their children's children,

⁹ that he made with Abraham, and by his oath swore to Isaac.

¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the allotment that is your* inheritance."

¹⁵ And because of this, he is the mediator of a new covenant, in order that, because* a death has taken place for the redemption of transgressions committed during the first covenant, those who are the called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

¹⁰ All the paths of Yahweh are loyal love and faithfulness for those who keep his covenant and statutes.*

¹⁸ to those who keep his covenant and remember to do his precepts.

⁴ For thus says Yahweh, "To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose that in which I delight, and who keep hold of my covenant. ⁵ And I will give them a monument and a name in my house and within my walls, better than sons and daughters; I will give him an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.

¹¹ And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you.

¹⁵ Only on this condition will we give consent to you; if you will become like us—every male among you to be circumcised.

²⁵ But Zipporah took a flint knife, and she cut off the foreskin of her son, and she touched his feet, and she said, "Yes, you are a bridegroom of blood to me."

⁴⁸ And when an alien dwells with you and he wants to prepare the Passover for Yahweh, every male belonging to him must be circumcised, and then he may come near to prepare it, and he will be as the native of the land, but any uncircumcised man may not eat it.

¹⁶ So you shall circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and _⌊do not be stubborn_⌋.*

⁶ "And Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring to love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your inner self* _⌊so that you may live_⌋.*

² At that time Yahweh said to Joshua, "Make for yourself knives of flint, and circumcise the _⌊Israelites_⌋* a second time."

⁴ This is the reason why Joshua circumcised all the people: all the males who went out from Egypt, all the warriors, died in the wilderness as they went out from Egypt _⌊on the journey_⌋.*

⁴ Circumcise yourselves to Yahweh, and remove the foreskins of your hearts,* men* of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, lest my wrath goes forth like the fire and burns, and there is no one who extinguishes it,* because of the evil of your deeds."

²⁵ "Look, days are coming," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and I will call into account all those who are circumcised in the foreskin: ²⁶ Egypt, Judah, and Edom, and the _⌊Ammonites_⌋,* and Moab, and all those who are trimmed to the side, those who live in the desert,* for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised of heart."

²² Because of this Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.

⁸ And he gave him the covenant of circumcision, and so he became the father of Isaac and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac did so with* Jacob, and Jacob did so with* the twelve patriarchs.

²⁸ For the Jew is not _⌊one outwardly_⌋*, nor is circumcision _⌊outwardly_⌋*, in the flesh.

²⁵ whom God made publicly available as the mercy seat* through faith in his blood, for a demonstration of his righteousness, because of the passing over of previously committed sins,

²⁸ For we consider a person to be justified by faith apart from the works of the law.

³⁰ since God is one, who will justify _⌊those who are circumcised_⌋* by faith and _⌊those who are uncircumcised_⌋* through faith.

⁹ Therefore, is this blessing for _⌊those who are circumcised_⌋*, or also for _⌊those who are uncircumcised_⌋*? For we say, "Faith was credited to Abraham for righteousness."* ¹⁰ How then was it credited? While he* was _⌊circumcised_⌋* or _⌊uncircumcised_⌋*? Not _⌊while circumcised_⌋* but _⌊while uncircumcised_⌋*! ¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal* of the righteousness by faith which he had _⌊while uncircumcised_⌋*, so that he could be the father of all who believe _⌊although they are uncircumcised_⌋*, so that righteousness could be credited to them,*

¹⁸ Was anyone called after* being circumcised? He must not undo his circumcision. Was anyone called in uncircumcision? He must not become circumcised. ¹⁹ Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God.

²⁸ There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

³ And again I testify to every man who becomes circumcised, that he is under obligation to keep the whole law. ⁴ You are estranged from Christ, you who are attempting to be justified* by the law; you have fallen from grace. ⁵ For through the Spirit by faith we eagerly await the hope of righteousness. ⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.

¹² As many as are wanting to make a good showing in the flesh, these are attempting to compel* you to be circumcised, only so that they will not be persecuted for the cross of Christ.

¹¹ Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, the so-called uncircumcision by the so-called circumcision in the flesh, made by hands,

³ For we are the circumcision, the ones who worship* by the Spirit* of God and boast in Christ Jesus and do not put confidence in the flesh,

¹¹ in whom also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made by hands, by the removal of the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, ¹² having been buried with him in baptism, in which also you were raised together with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

³ So Joshua made knives of flint, and he circumcised the _⌊Israelites_⌋* at the hill of the foreskins.*

²⁵ Then Saul said, "This is what you must say to David: '_⌊The king desires no bride price_⌋* except for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to avenge himself on the enemies of the king.'" (Now Saul had planned to allow David to fall by the hand of the Philistines.) ²⁶ So his servants told David these words, and the matter _⌊pleased David_⌋* to become the son-in-law of the king as _⌊the specified time had not expired_⌋.* ²⁷ And David got up, and he and his men went and struck down two hundred men of the Philistines. Then David brought their foreskins, and _⌊they presented the full number_⌋* to become the king's son-in-law. Then Saul gave him Michal his daughter as his wife.

¹⁴ Then David sent messengers to Ish-Bosheth the son of Saul, saying, "Give me my wife Michal whom I betrothed to myself* for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines."

¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal* of the righteousness by faith which he had _⌊while uncircumcised_⌋*, so that he could be the father of all who believe _⌊although they are uncircumcised_⌋*, so that righteousness could be credited to them,*

²³ And Abraham took Ishmael his son and all who were born of his house, and all those acquired by his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on the same day that God spoke with him.

⁴ And Abraham circumcised Isaac his son when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him.

⁴⁸ And when an alien dwells with you and he wants to prepare the Passover for Yahweh, every male belonging to him must be circumcised, and then he may come near to prepare it, and he will be as the native of the land, but any uncircumcised man may not eat it. ⁴⁹ One law will be for the native and for the alien who is dwelling in your midst."

³ And on the eighth day his foreskin's flesh shall be circumcised.

⁵⁹ And it happened that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were wanting to name him _⌊after_⌋* his father Zechariah.

²¹ And when eight days were completed _⌊so that he could be circumcised_⌋,* he was named Jesus, his name that he was called by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

²² Because of this Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath. ²³ If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses would not be broken, are you angry with me because I made a whole man well* on the Sabbath?

²⁸ For the Jew is not _⌊one outwardly_⌋*, nor is circumcision _⌊outwardly_⌋*, in the flesh.

⁵ _⌊circumcised on the eighth day_⌋*, from the nation of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born from Hebrews, according to the law a Pharisee,

¹⁴ When* Abram heard that his _⌊relative_⌋* was taken captive, he summoned his trained men, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen of them, and he went in pursuit up to Dan.

³ And Abram said, "Look, you have not given me a descendant, and here, _⌊a member of my household_⌋* is _⌊my heir_⌋."*

²⁷ Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, but our hand shall not be against him, for he is our brother, our own flesh." And his brothers agreed.

³⁶ And the Midianites sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, a court official of Pharaoh, a commander of the imperial guard.

¹ Now Joseph had been brought down to Egypt, and Potiphar, a court official of Pharaoh, commander of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the hand of the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there.

⁴⁴ But any slave of a man, an acquisition by money, and you have circumcised him, then he may eat it.

² 'If you buy a Hebrew slave, he will serve six years, and in the seventh he will go out as free for nothing.*

⁴ If his master gives him a wife and she bears for him sons or daughters, the wife and her children will belong to her master, and the slave will go out single.

¹⁶ " 'And _⌊whoever kidnaps someone_⌋* and sells him, or he is found in his possession,* he will surely be put to death.

⁵ Now our flesh is like the flesh of our brothers, our sons are like their sons. Look, we are subduing our sons and our daughters to be slaves, and there are some from our daughters being molested. _⌊We are powerless_⌋,* and our fields and vineyards belong to others."

⁸ and I said to them: "We ourselves have bought back our brothers the Jews who were sold to the nations as we were able. But now you yourselves have sold your brothers so they may be sold to us!" They were silent and could not find a word to say.

²⁵ And because* he did not have enough* to repay it,* the master ordered him to be sold, and his* wife and his* children and everything that he had, and to be repaid.

²⁴ _⌊And_⌋* on the way, at the place of overnight lodging, Yahweh encountered him and sought to kill him. ²⁵ But Zipporah took a flint knife, and she cut off the foreskin of her son, and she touched his feet, and she said, "Yes, you are a bridegroom of blood to me." ²⁶ And he left him alone. At that time she said, "A bridegroom of blood," because of the circumcision.*

¹⁵ You will eat unleavened bread for seven days. Surely on the first day you shall remove yeast from your houses, because anyone who eats food with yeast from the first day until the seventh day—that person will be cut off from Israel.

¹⁹ For seven days yeast must not be found in your houses, because _⌊anyone eating food with yeast_⌋* will be cut off from the community of Israel—whether an alien or a native of the land.

³³ Anyone who compounds perfume like it and who puts it on a stranger will be cut off from his people.'"

³⁸ Anyone who makes any like it to smell it will be cut off from his people."

²⁰ And the person* who eats meat from the fellowship offerings' sacrifice, which is for Yahweh, and whose uncleanness is upon him—that person* shall be cut off from his people. ²¹ And when a person* touches anything unclean, whether human uncleanness or an unclean animal or any unclean detestable thing, and he eats from the meat of the fellowship offerings' sacrifice, which is for Yahweh, then* that person* shall be cut off from his people.'"

²⁵ When anyone eats fat from the domestic animal from which he presented an offering made by fire for Yahweh, then* that person* who ate shall be cut off from his people.

²⁷ Any person* who eats any blood, that person* shall be cut off from his people.'"

²⁹ Indeed, anyone who does any of these detestable things, even* those persons who do so shall be cut off from the midst of their people.

⁸ And the one who eats it shall bear his guilt, because he has profaned Yahweh's holiness, and that person shall be cut off from his people.

³⁰ But the one _⌊who acts presumptuously_⌋* from among the native or alien blasphemes against Yahweh, and that person must be cut off from the midst of the people. ³¹ Because he despised the word of Yahweh and broke his command, that person will be surely cut off and bear the guilt.'"

² At that time Yahweh said to Joshua, "Make for yourself knives of flint, and circumcise the _⌊Israelites_⌋* a second time." ³ So Joshua made knives of flint, and he circumcised the _⌊Israelites_⌋* at the hill of the foreskins.* ⁴ This is the reason why Joshua circumcised all the people: all the males who went out from Egypt, all the warriors, died in the wilderness as they went out from Egypt _⌊on the journey_⌋.* ⁵ For all the people who left were circumcised, but all the people born in the wilderness _⌊on the journey_⌋* after they left from Egypt were not circumcised. ⁶ For forty years the _⌊Israelites_⌋* traveled in the wilderness until all the nation, the warriors that left Egypt, perished, because they did not listen to the voice of Yahweh. To them Yahweh swore that they would not see the land that he* swore to their ancestors* to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey. ⁷ And it was their children whom he raised in their place that Joshua circumcised, for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised _⌊on the journey_⌋.* ⁸ And it happened, when all the nation had finished circumcising, they remained where they were in the camp until they recovered. ⁹ And Yahweh said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the disgrace of Egypt from you." Therefore, the name of that place is called Gilgal* to this day. ¹⁰ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* camped at Gilgal, and they kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, on the plains of Jericho. ¹¹ On the next day after the Passover, on that* very day, they ate from the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and roasted corn. ¹² And the manna ceased the day after, when they started eating the produce of the land, and there was no longer manna for the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* They ate from the crop of the land of Canaan in that year.

²⁰ He has put forth his hands against _⌊his friends_⌋;* he has defiled his covenant.

⁵ and the earth is defiled beneath its inhabitants. For they have transgressed laws; they have passed by statutes;* they have broken the everlasting covenant.

⁸ Highways are deserted; the traveler on the road ceases. One breaks a treaty, he rejects the cities,* he does not hold man in high regard.

¹⁰ They have turned back to the iniquities of their former ancestors,* who refused to obey my words, and they have gone after other gods, to serve them. The house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant that I _⌊made_⌋* with their ancestors."*

³² not like the covenant that I _⌊made_⌋* with their ancestors* on the day of my grasping them* by their hand, bringing them out from the land of Egypt, my covenant that they themselves broke, though I myself was a master over them," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

²⁷ So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

²⁹ For the one who eats and drinks, if he* does not recognize the body, eats and drinks judgment against himself.

⁵ Your name shall no longer be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I will make you the father of a multitude of nations.

²⁸ And God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth and subdue it, and rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of heaven,* and over every animal that moves upon the earth."

⁶ And I will make you _⌊exceedingly_⌋* fruitful. I will make you a nation, and kings shall go out from you.

¹⁰ And he* said, "I will certainly return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋,* and look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the doorway of the tent, and which was behind him. ¹¹ Now Abraham and Sarah were old, _⌊advanced in age_⌋;* _⌊the way of women_⌋* had ceased to be for Sarah. ¹² So* Sarah laughed to herself saying, "After I am worn out and my husband is old, shall this pleasure be to me?" ¹³ Then Yahweh said to Abraham, "What is this that Sarah laughed, saying, 'Is it indeed true that I will bear a child, now that I have grown old?' ¹⁴ Is anything too difficult for Yahweh? At the appointed time I will return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋* and Sarah shall have a son."

⁶⁰ And they blessed Rebekah and said to her, "You are our sister; may you become countless thousands; and may your offspring take possession of the gate of his enemies."

²³ And kings shall be your _⌊guardians_⌋,* and their queens your nurses. They shall bow down, _⌊faces_⌋* to the ground, to you, and they will lick up the dust of your feet. Then* you will know that I am Yahweh; those who await me shall not be ashamed.

⁹ For the statement of the promise is this: "At this time I will return and _⌊Sarah will have_⌋* a son."*

²⁶ But the Jerusalem above is free, which is our mother. ²⁷ For it is written,
"Rejoice, O barren woman, who does not give birth to children; burst out and shout, you who do not have birth pains, because many are the children of the desolate woman, even more than those of the one who has a husband."* ²⁸ But you, brothers, are children of the promise, just as Isaac. ²⁹ But just as at that time the child born according to human descent persecuted the child born according to the Spirit, so also now. ³⁰ But what does the scripture say? "Drive out the female slave and her son, for the son of the female slave will never inherit with the son"* of the free woman. ³¹ Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the female slave but of the free woman.

⁶ like Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you have become when you* do good and are not frightened with respect to any terror.

³ Then Abram fell upon his face and God spoke with him, saying,

¹² So* Sarah laughed to herself saying, "After I am worn out and my husband is old, shall this pleasure be to me?"

⁶ And Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; all who hear will laugh for me."

²⁴ Then* a fire went out _⌊from before_⌋* Yahweh, and it consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And all the people saw it, so* they shouted for joy, and they fell on their faces.

¹⁸ And then I lay prostrate _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, as earlier, forty days* and forty nights;* I did not eat food and I did not drink water because of all your sins that you committed, by doing evil in the eyes of Yahweh and so provoking him.

²⁵ "And I lay prostrate before Yahweh through forty days,* and through forty nights* I prostrated myself, because Yahweh intended to kill you.

⁶ And Joshua tore his clothes and fell to the ground on his face before the ark of Yahweh until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.*

¹⁶ And David lifted his eyes and saw the angel of Yahweh standing between earth and heaven, with his sword drawn in his hand, stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

²⁰ Then* Job arose and tore his outer garment* and shaved his head; _⌊then_⌋* he fell upon the ground and he worshiped.

¹⁷ And he came beside _⌊where I was standing_⌋,* and _⌊when he came_⌋* I became terrified and I fell prostrate on my face. And he said to me, "Understand, son of man,* that the vision is for the time of the end."

¹¹ And when they* came into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and* worshiped him. And opening their treasure boxes, they offered him gifts of gold and frankincense and myrrh.

⁵⁶ Abraham your father rejoiced that he would see my day, and he saw it* and was glad."

¹⁹ And not being weak in faith, he considered his own body as good as dead, * because he* was approximately a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah's womb. ²⁰ And he did not waver in unbelief at the promise of God, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God

⁸ And when he took the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one of whom had a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.

¹⁶ And the twenty-four elders who are seated on their thrones before God fell down on their faces and worshiped God,

¹² When you till the ground _⌊it shall no longer yield its strength to you_⌋.* You shall be a wanderer and a fugitive on the earth."

¹⁴ Look, you have driven me out today from the face of the ground, and from your face I must hide. I will be a wanderer and a fugitive on the earth, and it will happen that whoever finds me will kill me."

⁶ Many are saying, "Who will show us something good?" Lift up over* us the light of your face, O Yahweh.

¹² As for me, you have upheld me in my integrity, and you have set me in your presence forever.

² Rather, your iniquities have been _⌊barriers_⌋* between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you, from hearing.

³⁹ And I will give to them one heart and one way, to revere me _⌊forever_⌋,* for good to them, and to their children after them.

²¹ But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this appointed time next year."

² And she conceived, and Sarah bore to Abraham a son in his old age at the appointed time that God had told him. ³ And Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father.

¹⁶ And he said, "At this time _⌊next spring_⌋,* you will be embracing a son." She said, "No, my lord, O man of God! You must not tell a lie to your servant!" ¹⁷ But the woman conceived, and she bore a son _⌊in the spring_⌋,* which Elisha had promised to her.

¹³ But the angel said to him,
"Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will call his name John. ¹⁴ And _⌊you will experience joy and exultation_⌋,* and many will rejoice at his birth. ¹⁵ For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he must never drink wine or beer, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit while he is* still in his mother's womb. ¹⁶ And he will turn many of the sons of Israel to the Lord their God. ¹⁷ And he will go on before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to prepare for the Lord a people made ready." ¹⁸ And Zechariah said to the angel, "By what will I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is advanced _⌊in years_⌋!"* ¹⁹ And the angel answered and* said to him, "I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and I was sent to speak to you and to announce to you this good news. ²⁰ And behold, you will be silent and not able to speak until the day these things take place, _⌊because_⌋* you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time."

⁶ But it is not as if the word of God had failed. For not all those who are descended from Israel are truly Israel,

¹⁰ And the angel of Yahweh said to her, "_⌊I will greatly multiply_⌋* your offspring, so that they cannot be counted for their abundance." ¹¹ And the angel of Yahweh said to her:
"Behold, you are pregnant and shall have a son. And you shall call his name Ishmael, for Yahweh has listened to your suffering. ¹² And he shall be a wild donkey of a man, his hand will be against everyone, and the hand of everyone will be against him, and he will live _⌊in hostility with all his brothers_⌋."*

¹³ And I will also make the son of the slave woman into a nation, for he is your offspring."

¹⁸ Get up, take up the boy and take him with your hand, for I will make him a great nation."

¹⁰ And he* said, "I will certainly return to you _⌊in the spring_⌋,* and look, Sarah your wife will have a son." Now Sarah was listening at the doorway of the tent, and which was behind him.

¹⁰ Then she said to Abraham, "Drive out this slave woman and her son, for the son of this slave woman will not be heir with my son, with Isaac." ¹¹ And the matter _⌊displeased Abraham very much_⌋* on account of his son. ¹² Then God said to Abraham, "_⌊Do not be displeased_⌋* on account of the boy and on account of the slave woman. _⌊Listen to everything that Sarah said to you_⌋,* for through Isaac your offspring will be named.

² And Yahweh appeared to him and said, "Do not go down to Egypt; dwell in the land which I will show to you. ³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father. ⁴ And I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and I will give to your descendants all these lands. And all nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring, ⁵ because Abraham listened to my voice and kept my charge: my commandments, my statutes, and my laws."

¹ So Israel journeyed with all that he had, and he came to Beersheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father, Isaac.

²⁴ And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob,

¹³ "_⌊O that_⌋* you would conceal me in Sheol, that you would hide me _⌊until your wrath is past_⌋,* that you would appoint a set time for me and remember me.

⁵⁵ just as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants _⌊forever_⌋."*

⁷² to show mercy to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant,

⁷ But he said to them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has set by his own authority.

⁵ to whom belong the patriarchs, and from whom is the Christ according to human descent, who is God over all, blessed _⌊forever_⌋*! Amen. ⁶ But it is not as if the word of God had failed. For not all those who are descended from Israel are truly Israel,

²⁹ And if you are Christ's, then you are descendants of Abraham, heirs according to the promise.

⁹ By faith he lived in the land of promise as a stranger, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the fellow heirs of the same promise.

³³ Then Yahweh left,* as he finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place.

⁹ And God appeared to Jacob again when he came from Paddan-Aram, and he blessed him. ¹⁰ And God said to him, "Your name is Jacob. Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel shall be your name." Then his name was called Israel. ¹¹ And God said to him, "I am El-Shaddai.* Be fruitful and multiply. A nation and an assemblage of nations shall be from you, and kings shall go out from your loins. ¹² And as for the land that I gave to Abraham and to Isaac, I will give it to you. And to your descendants after you I will give the land. ¹³ And God went up from him at the place where he spoke with him. ¹⁴ And Jacob set up a pillar at the place where God had spoken with him, a pillar of stone. And he poured out a drink offering upon it, and poured oil on it. ¹⁵ And Jacob called the name of the place where God had spoken with him Bethel.

²² And Yahweh said to Moses, "Thus you will say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'You yourselves have seen that I have spoken to you from the heavens.

⁶ and he said,
"Please hear my words: If there is a prophet among you, I, Yahweh, will make myself known to him in a vision. I will speak to him in a dream.* ⁷ Not so with my servant Moses; in all my house he is faithful. ⁸ I will speak to him mouth to mouth, in clearness, not in riddles; and he will look at the form of Yahweh.
Why were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?"

⁴ _⌊Face to face_⌋* Yahweh spoke with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire.

²¹ Then the angel of Yahweh reached out the tip of the staff that was in his hand, and he touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and fire went up from the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. And the angel of Yahweh went _⌊from his sight_⌋.*

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time; the one and only, God, the one who is in the bosom of the Father—that one has made him* known.

³⁰ The Father and I are one."

¹⁰ This is my covenant which you shall keep, between me and you, and also with* your offspring after you: Every male among you shall be circumcised. ¹¹ And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and you. ¹² And _⌊at eight days of age_⌋* you shall yourselves circumcise every male belonging to your generations and _⌊the servant born in your house and the one bought from any foreigner_⌋* who is not from your offspring. ¹³ _⌊You must certainly circumcise_⌋* _⌊the servant born in your house and the one bought from any foreigner_⌋.* And my covenant shall be with your flesh as an everlasting covenant. ¹⁴ And as for any uncircumcised male who has not circumcised the flesh of his foreskin, that person shall be cut off from his* people. He has broken my covenant.

²⁶ Abraham and his son Ishmael were circumcised on the same day. ²⁷ And all the men of his house, _⌊those born in the house, and those acquired by money from a foreigner_⌋,* were circumcised with him.

¹⁹ For I have chosen* him, that he will command his children and his household after him that they will keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice, so that Yahweh may bring upon Abraham that which he said to him."

²⁴ And all those who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor and Shechem. Every male was circumcised, all those who went out of the gate of his city.

² At that time Yahweh said to Joshua, "Make for yourself knives of flint, and circumcise the _⌊Israelites_⌋* a second time." ³ So Joshua made knives of flint, and he circumcised the _⌊Israelites_⌋* at the hill of the foreskins.* ⁴ This is the reason why Joshua circumcised all the people: all the males who went out from Egypt, all the warriors, died in the wilderness as they went out from Egypt _⌊on the journey_⌋.* ⁵ For all the people who left were circumcised, but all the people born in the wilderness _⌊on the journey_⌋* after they left from Egypt were not circumcised. ⁶ For forty years the _⌊Israelites_⌋* traveled in the wilderness until all the nation, the warriors that left Egypt, perished, because they did not listen to the voice of Yahweh. To them Yahweh swore that they would not see the land that he* swore to their ancestors* to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey. ⁷ And it was their children whom he raised in their place that Joshua circumcised, for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised _⌊on the journey_⌋.* ⁸ And it happened, when all the nation had finished circumcising, they remained where they were in the camp until they recovered. ⁹ And Yahweh said to Joshua, "Today I have rolled away the disgrace of Egypt from you." Therefore, the name of that place is called Gilgal* to this day.

⁶⁰ I hurry and do not delay to heed your commands.

¹ Do not boast _⌊about tomorrow_⌋,* for you do not know what the day will bring.

¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do—do it with all your might; for in Sheol—where you are going—no one works, plans, knows, or thinks about anything.

³ Paul wanted this one to go with him, and he took him* and* circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was Greek.

²⁵ For circumcision is of value if you do the law, but if you should be a transgressor of the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. ²⁶ Therefore, if the uncircumcised person follows the requirements of the law, will not his uncircumcision be credited for circumcision? ²⁷ And the uncircumcised person by nature who carries out the law will judge you who, though provided with _⌊the precise written code_⌋* and circumcision are a transgressor of the law. ²⁸ For the Jew is not _⌊one outwardly_⌋*, nor is circumcision _⌊outwardly_⌋*, in the flesh. ²⁹ But the Jew _⌊is one inwardly_⌋*, and circumcision is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter, whose praise is not from people but from God.

⁹ Therefore, is this blessing for _⌊those who are circumcised_⌋*, or also for _⌊those who are uncircumcised_⌋*? For we say, "Faith was credited to Abraham for righteousness."* ¹⁰ How then was it credited? While he* was _⌊circumcised_⌋* or _⌊uncircumcised_⌋*? Not _⌊while circumcised_⌋* but _⌊while uncircumcised_⌋*! ¹¹ And he received the sign of circumcision as a seal* of the righteousness by faith which he had _⌊while uncircumcised_⌋*, so that he could be the father of all who believe _⌊although they are uncircumcised_⌋*, so that righteousness could be credited to them,* ¹² and the father _⌊of those who are circumcised_⌋* to those who are not only from the circumcision, but who also follow in the footsteps of the faith of our father Abraham _⌊which he had while uncircumcised_⌋*.

⁶ For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision counts for anything nor uncircumcision, but faith working through love.

¹⁵ For neither is circumcision anything nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.

⁴ And Abram went out as Yahweh had told him, and Lot went with him. Now Abram _⌊was seventy-five years old_⌋* when he went out from Haran.

¹ When* Abram was ninety-nine years old Yahweh appeared to Abram. And he said to him, "I am El-Shaddai;* walk before me and be blameless

³ And Abraham rose up early in the morning and saddled his donkey. And he took two of his servants with him, and Isaac his son. And he chopped wood for a burnt offering. And he got up and went to the place which God had told him. ⁴ On the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and he saw the place at a distance.
