Children* were born to them after the flood. ² The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras. ³ And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah. ⁴ And the sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. ⁵ From these the coastland peoples spread out through their lands, each according to his own language by their own families, in their nations. ⁶ And the sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan. ⁷ And the sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan. ⁸ And Cush fathered Nimrod. _⌊He was the first on earth to be a mighty warrior_⌋.* ⁹ He was a mighty hunter before Yahweh. Therefore it was said, "Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before Yahweh." ¹⁰ Now,* the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. ¹¹ From that land he went out to Assyria, and he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah, ¹² Resen between Nineveh and Calah; that is the great city. ¹³ And Egypt fathered Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim, ¹⁴ Pathrusim, and Casluhim (from whom the Philistines came), and Caphtorim. ¹⁵ Canaan fathered Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth, ¹⁶ and the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, ¹⁷ the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, ¹⁸ the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad. ¹⁹ And the territory of the Canaanites was from Sidon _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Gerar as far as Gaza, and _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. ²⁰ These are the descendants* of Ham, according to their families and their languages, in their lands, and in their nations. ²¹ And to Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the older brother of Japheth, children were also born. ²² The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. ²³ And the sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash. ²⁴ And Arphaxad fathered Shelah, and Shelah fathered Eber. ²⁵ And to Eber two sons were born. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and the name of his brother was Joktan. ²⁶ And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²⁷ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²⁸ Obal, Abimael, Sheba, ²⁹ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan. ³⁰ And their dwelling place _⌊extended from_⌋* Mesha _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Sephar to the hill country of the east. ³¹ These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands, and according to their nations. ³² These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their generations* and in their nations. And from these the nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood.

⁴ These are the generations* of heaven* and earth* when they were created, in the day that Yahweh God made earth and heaven*—

¹ This is the record of the generations* of Adam. When* God created Adam,* he made him in the likeness of God.

⁹ These are the generations* of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, without defect in his generations. Noah walked with God.

¹ And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.

⁷ "And you, be fruitful and multiply, swarm on the earth and multiply in it."

And they shall declare my glory among the nations,

⁷ Your sail was fine linen with colorful weaving from Egypt _⌊to serve as a banner for you_⌋;* blue and purple cloth from the coastlands of Cyprus* was your awning.

¹² " 'Tarshish was your trader; from the abundance of all of their wealth, with silver, iron, tin, and lead they exchanged for your merchandise. ¹³ Javan, Tubal, and Meshech were your traders; _⌊in exchange for people_⌋* and an object of bronze they gave you your wares. ¹⁴ From Beth Togarmah they exchanged horses and war horses and mules for your wares.

¹⁹ Vedan and Javan from Uzal, they exchanged wrought iron, cinnamon,* and reed spice for your merchandise; all this was for your wares.

² "Son of man,* set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the head* leader of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him.

¹⁵ and so you will come from your place, from the remote areas of the north, you and many people with you, _⌊horsemen_⌋* all of them, a great crowd and a vast army,

¹ "And you, son of man,* prophesy against Gog, and you must say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I am against you Gog, the head* leader of Meshech and Tubal,

⁸ and he will go out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them for battle, _⌊whose number_⌋* is like the sand of the sea.

²⁷ Raise a banner in the land; blow a horn among the nations; prepare for holy war against her; summon the nations against her, the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz; summon against her an official; bring up horses* like bristling creeping locusts.*

¹⁴ From Beth Togarmah they exchanged horses and war horses and mules for your wares.

²⁴ The ships will come from the hand of the Kittim, and they will afflict Asshur and will afflict Eber; also he will be forever ruin."

¹ The oracle of Tyre:
Wail, ships of Tarshish, for _⌊the house is destroyed so that no one can enter_⌋;* it is announced to them from the land of Cyprus.

³⁰ And the ships of Kittim will come against him, and he will lose heart, and he will turn back, and he will be enraged _⌊against the holy covenant_⌋,* and he will take action, and he will turn back, and he will pay attention to those who forsake _⌊the holy covenant_⌋.*

²⁰ These are the descendants* of Ham, according to their families and their languages, in their lands, and in their nations.

²⁵ And to Eber two sons were born. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided, and the name of his brother was Joktan.

¹ Now* the whole earth had one language and the same words. ² And as people migrated* from the east they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. ³ And they said _⌊to each other_⌋,* "Come, let us make bricks and _⌊burn them thoroughly_⌋."* And they had brick for stone and they had tar for mortar. ⁴ And they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower whose top reaches to the heavens. And let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered over the face of the whole earth." ⁵ Then* Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower that _⌊humankind_⌋* was building. ⁶ And Yahweh said, "Behold, _⌊they are one people with one language_⌋,* and _⌊this is only the beginning of what they will do_⌋.* So* now nothing that they intend to do will be impossible for them. ⁷ Come, let us go down and confuse their language there, so that they will not understand _⌊each other's language_⌋."* ⁸ So Yahweh scattered them from there over the face of the whole earth, and they stopped building the city. ⁹ Therefore its name was called Babel, for there Yahweh confused the language of the whole earth, and there Yahweh scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

¹⁰ Let the kings of Tarshish and the islands bring tribute. Let the kings of Sheba and Seba present gifts,

¹⁵ Therefore glorify Yahweh in the east, the name of Yahweh the God of Israel in the coastlands of the sea.

¹⁵ Look! The nations are like a drop from a bucket, and they are counted like dust of the balances! Look! He weighs the islands like a thin covering.

⁵ The coastlands have seen and are afraid; the ends of the earth tremble. They have drawn near, and they have come.

⁴ He will not grow faint, and he will not be broken until he has established justice in the earth. And the coastlands wait for his teaching.

¹⁰ Sing a new song to Yahweh; praise him from the end of the earth, you* who go down to the sea and that which fills it, the coastlands and their inhabitants.

¹ Listen to me, coastlands, and listen attentively, peoples from far away! Yahweh called me from the womb; from the _⌊body_⌋* of my mother he made my name known.

⁵ My righteousness is near; my salvation has gone out, and my arms will judge the peoples. The coastlands wait for me, and for my arm they wait.

¹⁸ According to deeds, so he will repay; wrath to his enemies, requital to those who are his _⌊enemies_⌋.* He will repay requital to the coastlands.

⁹ Because the coastlands wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish are first to bring your children from afar, their silver and gold with them, for the name of Yahweh your God, and for the holy one of Israel, because he has glorified you.

¹⁰ For go over to the coasts of Cyprus and look, and send to Kedar and consider very closely, and see if there has been a thing like this:

²² and all the kings of Tyre, and all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the coastland that is across the sea;

¹¹ Yahweh will be awesome against them, for he will destroy all the gods of the earth and all the lands* of the nations; each in its place will bow down to him.

²² And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and he told his two brothers outside.

⁸ The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan. ⁹ The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabta, Raamah, and Sabteca. ⁴⁰ And they found fertile and good pasture, and the land was very broad, quiet, and at ease, for the former inhabitants there were from Ham.

⁵¹ And he struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, the first of their virility in the tents of Ham.

²³ Then Israel came to Egypt, and Jacob was a sojourner in the land of Ham.

²⁷ They set before them the words concerning his signs and portents in the land of Ham.

The Lord will again extend his hand a second time to acquire the remnant of his people that is left, from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coastlands of the sea,

⁹ Go up, O horses, and drive madly, O chariots,* and let the warriors go forth; Cush and Put, who wield the small shield, and Lud, who wield and bend the bow.

¹³ An oracle _⌊concerning_⌋* Arabia:
You will spend the night in the thicket in a desert-plateau,* caravans of Dedanites.

¹⁵ The people* of Dedan were trading with you, many coastlands composed the region of your _⌊influence_⌋;* they brought back horns of ivory and ebony as your payment.

²² The traders of Sheba and Raamah were trading with you, with the finest of every spice and with every precious stone and gold; they exchanged all these for your merchandise.

⁶ And they will shepherd the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod at its entrances. And he will rescue us from the Assyrian* when he comes into our land, and when they tread upon our border.

⁴ The Nephilim were upon the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God went into the daughters of humankind, and they bore children to them.

¹³ Now the men of Sodom _⌊were extremely wicked sinners against Yahweh_⌋.*

²⁷ And the boys grew up. And Esau was a skilled* hunter, a man of the field, but Jacob was a peaceful man, living in tents.

²² And in the time of his distress, King Ahaz continued to act unfaithfully against Yahweh.

⁷ "Look, the man who would not make God his refuge, but he trusted in the greatness of his wealth; he took refuge in his destructiveness."

¹⁶ Look, I am sending for many fishermen,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'and they will fish them out, and _⌊afterward_⌋* I will send for many hunters, and they will hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and from the clefts of the cliffs.

¹⁸ And you must say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Woe to _⌊those who sew_⌋* magic charm bands on all the wrists* of the hands of my people and _⌊those who make the veils_⌋* that are on the head of people of every height, to ensnare people's lives!* Will you ensnare the lives* of my people _⌊and keep yourselves alive_⌋?*

² The faithful person has perished from the land, and there is none who is upright among humankind. All of them lie in wait; each hunts his brother with a net.

² And as people migrated* from the east they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.

⁹ Therefore its name was called Babel, for there Yahweh confused the language of the whole earth, and there Yahweh scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

¹ And it happened that in the days of Amraphel, the king of Shinar, Arioch, the king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer, the king of Elam, and Tidal, the king of Goiim,

⁹ Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?

¹ At that time, Merodach-Baladan, son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for* he heard that he had been sick and recovered.

¹⁰ Writhe and groan, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in labor. For now you will go forth from the city, and you will camp in the field; you will go to Babylon. There you will be rescued; there Yahweh will redeem you from the hand of your enemies.

¹¹ And he said to me, "To build for it a house* in the land of Shinar,* and when it is put in place, it will be placed there on its site."

²² Nevertheless, the Kenite will be burned; how long will Asshur keep* you captive?"

³⁶ Then Sennacherib king of Assyria set out and went and returned and lived in Nineveh.

² And they approached Zerubbabel and the heads of the _⌊families_⌋,* and they said to them, "Let us build with you. Like you, we seek your God and have been sacrificing to him from the days of Esarhaddon the king of Assyria who brought us up here.

⁸ Assyria also has joined with them. They _⌊provide help_⌋* to the children of Lot. Selah

³⁷ Then* Sennacherib king of Assyria left, went, and returned and lived at Nineveh.

²³ Haran and Canneh and Eden, the traders of Sheba, Assyria, and Kilmad were trading with you.

²² Assyria is there and all of its assembly; all around it are its graves, all of them killed, those fallen by the sword,

³ Assyria will not save us; we will not ride on horses,* and we will say no more, "Our God," to the work of our hands because in you the fatherless child finds mercy.

² "Get up! Go to the great city Nineveh and cry out against her, because their evil has come up _⌊before me_⌋."*

¹ And the word of Yahweh came to Jonah a second time, saying, ² "Get up! Go to Nineveh, the great city, and proclaim to it the message that I am telling you." ³ So Jonah got up* and went to Nineveh according to the word of Yahweh. Now Nineveh was _⌊an extraordinarily great city_⌋*—a journey of three days across.* ⁴ And Jonah began to go into the city a journey of one day, and he cried out and said, "Forty more days and Nineveh will be demolished!"* ⁵ And the people of Nineveh believed in God, and they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth—from the greatest of them _⌊to the least important_⌋.* ⁶ And the news reached the king of Nineveh, and he rose from his throne and removed his royal robe, put on sackcloth, and sat in the ashes. ⁷ And he had a proclamation made, and said,
"In Nineveh, by a decree of the king and his nobles:
"No human being or animal, no herd or flock, shall taste anything! They must not eat, and they must not drink water! ⁸ And the human beings and the animals must be covered with sackcloth! And they must call forcefully to God, and each must turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his* hands. ⁹ Who knows? God may relent and change his mind and turn _⌊from his blazing anger_⌋* _⌊so that_⌋* we will not perish." ¹⁰ And God saw their deeds—that they turned from their evil ways—and God changed his mind about the evil that he had said he would bring upon them, and he did not do it.*

¹ The oracle concerning Nineveh— the scroll of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite:

⁸ Nineveh is like a pool of water without its water.* _⌊As they flee_⌋,* she cries, "Stop! Stop!" But there is no one who turns back.

⁷ "And it will be that everyone who sees you will flee from you, And _⌊they_⌋* will say, 'Nineveh is destroyed!' Who will mourn for her? From whence shall I seek comforters for you?"

¹³ And he will stretch out his hand against the north, and he will destroy Assyria and will make Nineveh a desolation, a dry wasteland like the desert.

¹¹ And Mizraim fathered the Ludim, the Anamim, the Lehabim, the Naphtuhim, ¹² the Pathrusim, the Casluhim (from whence the Philistines descended), and the Caphtorim.

⁵ Cush and Put and Lud and all of Arabia and Kub and the people* of the land of the treaty* with them—by the sword they will fall."

²³ And also the Avvites, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, and the Caphtorim, who came out from Caphtor, destroyed them and then settled in their place.

¹ The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Judeans who were living in the land of Egypt, who were living at Migdol, and Tahpanhes, and Memphis, and in the land of Pathros, _⌊saying_⌋,*

⁴ Because of the day that is coming to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and from Sidon every survivor who could help, for Yahweh is destroying the Philistines, the remnant of the coastland of Caphtor.

⁷ "Are you not like the Cushites to me, O people of Israel?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. "Did I not bring up Israel from the land of Egypt and the Philistines from Caphtor and _⌊the Arameans_⌋* from Kir?

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

³ And Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and to weep for her. And Abraham rose up from his dead, and he spoke to the Hittites* and said,

³ Now, may El-Shaddai* bless you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, so that you become an assembly of peoples. ⁴ And may he give you the blessing of Abraham, to you and to your descendants with you, that you may take possession of the land of your sojourning, which God gave to Abraham." ⁵ Then Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Paddan-Aram, to Laban the son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, the mother of Jacob and Esau. ⁶ Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-Aram, to take for himself a wife from there, and* he blessed him and instructed him, saying, "You must not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan," ⁷ and that Jacob listened to his father and to his mother and went to Paddan-Aram. ⁸ Then Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan were evil in the eyes of Isaac his father, ⁹ then Esau went to Ishmael and took Mahalath, the daughter of Ishmael, son of Abraham, sister of Nebaioth, as a wife, in addition to the wives he had. ¹⁰ Then Jacob went out from Beersheba and went to Haran. ¹¹ And he arrived at a certain place and spent the night there, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of the place and put it under his head and slept at that place. ¹² And he dreamed, and behold, a stairway was set on the earth, and its top touched the heavens. And behold, angels of God were going up and going down on it. ¹³ And behold, Yahweh was standing beside him,* and he said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you were sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants. ¹⁴ Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants. ¹⁵ Now behold, I am with you, and I will keep you wherever you go. And I will bring you to this land, for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised to you." ¹⁶ Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely Yahweh _⌊is indeed_⌋* in this place and I did not know!" ¹⁷ Then he was afraid and said, "How awesome is this place! _⌊This is nothing else than the house of God_⌋,* and this is the gate of heaven!" ¹⁸ And Jacob rose early in the morning, and he took the stone that he had put under his head and set it up as a stone pillar, and poured oil on top of it. ¹⁹ And he called the name of that place Bethel; however, the name of the city was formerly Luz. ²⁰ And Jacob made a vow* saying, "If God will be with me and protect me on this way that I am going, and gives me food to eat and clothing to wear,

¹³ Zebulun shall settle by the shore of the sea. He shall become a haven for ships, and his border shall be at Sidon.

⁸ And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

¹¹ "Keep for yourself what I myself have commanded you today. Look, I am about to drive from before you the Amorites and the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

² "Command the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and say to them, 'When you come into the land of Canaan, this is the land that was allotted to you as an inheritance, the land of Canaan according to its boundaries. ³ Your southern edge will be from the desert of Zin toward the side of Edom, and your southern border will be from the end of the Salt Sea* to the east; ⁴ your boundary will turn from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim* and will pass over to Zin, and its limits will be from the south of Kadesh Barnea; it will continue to Hazar Addar and pass over to Azmon. ⁵ The boundary will turn from Azmon to the valley of Egypt, and its limits will be to the sea. ⁶ " 'Your western boundary will be the Great Sea;* this will be your western boundary. ⁷ Your northern border will be from the Great Sea;* you will make a boundary from the Great Sea* to Mount Hor. ⁸ From Mount Hor you will make a boundary to reach Hamath; the limits of the territory will be at Zedad. ⁹ The boundary will go out to Ziphron, and its limits will be at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary to the north. ¹⁰ " 'You will mark out your eastern boundary from Hazar Enan to Shepham; ¹¹ the boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah from the east side of Ain, and the boundary will go down and border on the eastern side of the Sea of Kinnereth. ¹² The boundary will go down to the Jordan, and its limits will be at the Salt Sea.* This will be your land according to its boundaries all around.'" ¹³ So Moses commanded the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, "This is the land that you will obtain as an inheritance for yourself by lot, which Yahweh commanded to give to the nine and a half tribes. ¹⁴ For the tribe of the children of the Reubenites,* the children of the Gadites,* and the half-tribe of Manasseh took their inheritance according to the house of their families.* ¹⁵ The two and a half tribes have taken their inheritance from beyond the Jordan across Jericho, east toward the sunrise."

⁸ And Yahweh gave them into the hand of Israel, and they struck them and pursued them up to Great Sidon and Misrephoth Maim, and eastward up to the valley of Mizpeh. And they struck them until they left behind no survivor.

⁸ in the hill country, the Shephelah,* the Arabah,* on the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the Negev;* the Hittites,* the Amorites,* the Canaanites,* the Perizzites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites:* ⁹ the king of Jericho, one; the king of Ai, which is beside Bethel, one; ¹⁰ the king of Jerusalem, one; the king of Hebron, one; ¹¹ the king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one; ¹² the king of Eglon, one; the king of Gezer, one; ¹³ the king of Debir, one; the king of Geder, one; ¹⁴ the king of Hormah, one; the king of Arad, one; ¹⁵ the king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one; ¹⁶ the king of Makkedah, one; the king of Bethel, one; ¹⁷ the king of Tappuah, one; the king of Hepher, one; ¹⁸ the king of Aphek, one; the king of Lasharon, one; ¹⁹ the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one; ²⁰ the king of Shimron-meron, one; the king of Acshaph, one; ²¹ the king of Taanach, one; the king of Megiddo, one; ²² the king of Kedesh, one; the king of Jokneam in Carmel, one; ²³ the king of Dor in Naphath Dor, one; the king of Goiim for Gilgal, one; ²⁴ the king of Tirzah, one; all the kings, thirty-one.

³ David sent and inquired about the woman, and someone said, "Is this not Bathsheba the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?"

¹³ And Canaan fathered Zidon his firstborn, and Heth,

⁴ Be ashamed, Sidon, for the sea, the fortress of the sea said, saying, "I was not in labor, and I have not given birth, and I have not reared young men, brought* up young women."

²¹ But the descendants* of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites* who lived in Jerusalem, so the Jebusites have lived among the descendants* of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.

¹⁸ Then Gad came to David on that same day and said to him, "Go up and erect an altar to Yahweh at the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite."

⁷ I will remove its* blood from its* mouth, and its* abominations from between its* teeth. And it* too will be a remnant for our God; and it* will be like a tribal chief* in Judah, and Ekron will be like the Jebusite.

² And Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her. And he took her and lay with her and raped her.

⁸ From Mount Hor you will make a boundary to reach Hamath; the limits of the territory will be at Zedad.

⁹ When Toi, the king of Hamath, heard that David had defeated all the army of Hadadezer,

²⁴ The king of Assyria brought from Babylonia, from Cush, from Arva, from Hamath, and Sepharvaim, and he settled them in the cities of Samaria in place of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* so they took possession of Samaria and lived in her cities.

³⁰ The men of Babylonia made Succoth Benoth; the men of Cush made Nergal; the men of Hamath made Ashima.

⁴ Then Abijah stood up on top of Mount Zemaraim that is in the hill country of Ephraim and said, "Hear me, O Jeroboam and all Israel!

⁸ The inhabitants of Sidon and Arvan were your rowers; your _⌊skilled men_⌋,* O Tyre, were _⌊from your own people_⌋,* and they were your seamen.

¹⁶ Hamath* to Berothath to Sibraim, which is* between the boundary of Damascus and the boundary of Hamath, on to Hazer Hatticon, which is on the boundary of Hauran. ¹⁷ And so the boundary will be from the sea* to Hazar Enan at the boundary of Damascus northwards and the boundary of Hamath to the north, and this is the boundary on the side of the north.

² and also Hamath, which borders on it; Tyre and Sidon—yes, they are very wise!*

¹⁰ And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw the whole plain of the Jordan, that all of it was well-watered land—this was before Yahweh destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah—like the garden of Yahweh, like the land of Egypt _⌊in the direction of_⌋* Zoar. ¹¹ So* Lot chose for himself all the plain of the Jordan. And Lot journeyed from the east, and so they separated _⌊from each other_⌋.* ¹² Abram settled in the land of Canaan, and Lot settled in the cities of the plain. And he pitched his tent toward Sodom. ¹³ Now the men of Sodom _⌊were extremely wicked sinners against Yahweh_⌋.* ¹⁴ And Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had separated from him, "Now, lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are to the north, and to the south, and to the east and to the west, ¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever. ¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted. ¹⁷ Arise, go through the length of the land and through its breadth, for I will give it to you."

² made war with Bera, the king of Sodom, and Birsha, the king of Gomorrah, Shinab, the king of Admah, and Shemeber, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar).

²⁰ Then Yahweh said, "Because the outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great and because their sin is very _⌊serious_⌋,*

²⁴ Yahweh rained down from heaven upon Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh. ²⁵ And he overthrew those cities and the whole plain, and the inhabitants of the cities and the vegetation of the ground.

¹ And Abraham journeyed from there to the land of the Negev, and he settled between Kadesh and Shur. And he dwelled as an alien in Gerar.

¹ And there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine which was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech, king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

⁸ _⌊When the Most High apportioned_⌋* the nations, at his dividing up of the sons of humankind, he fixed the boundaries of the peoples, according to the number of the children of Israel.*

⁷ These are the kings of the land whom Joshua and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* defeated beyond to the Jordan to the west, from Baal Gad in the valley of Lebanon,* and up to Mount Halak, which rises to Seir. And Joshua gave it as a possession to the tribes of Israel according to their allotments, ⁸ in the hill country, the Shephelah,* the Arabah,* on the slopes, in the wilderness, and in the Negev;* the Hittites,* the Amorites,* the Canaanites,* the Perizzites,* the Hivites,* and the Jebusites:*

¹ These are the territories that the _⌊Israelites_⌋* inherited in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* gave as an inheritance to them. ² Their inheritance was by lot, just as Yahweh commanded through the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe. ³ For Moses had given an inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan, but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them. ⁴ For the descendants* of Joseph were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and they did not give a plot of ground to the Levites in the land, only cities to live in, with their pastureland for their flocks and for their goods. ⁵ Just as Yahweh commanded Moses, so the _⌊Israelites_⌋* did; and they allotted the land. ⁶ Then the descendants* of Judah came to Joshua at Gilgal; and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, "You know the word that Yahweh said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh Barnea concerning you and me. ⁷ _⌊I was forty years old_⌋* when Moses Yahweh's servant sent me from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the land, and I returned _⌊with an honest report_⌋.* ⁸ My companions who went up with me made the hearts* of the people melt, but I remained true to Yahweh my God. ⁹ And Moses swore on that day, saying, 'Surely the land that your foot has trodden on will be an inheritance to you and your sons forever, because you remained true to Yahweh my God.' ¹⁰ So then, look, Yahweh has kept me alive just as he promised these forty-five years,* from the time that Yahweh spoke this word to Moses while Israel _⌊wandered_⌋* in the wilderness. Now look, today _⌊I am eighty-five years old_⌋.* ¹¹ Today I am still strong, just as on the day that Moses sent me; as my strength was then, so now also is my strength for war _⌊and for daily activities_⌋.* ¹² So now give me this hill country that Yahweh spoke of on that day, for you heard on that day that the Anakites were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps Yahweh is with me, and I will drive them out just as Yahweh promised."* ¹³ And Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. ¹⁴ Thus Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he remained true to Yahweh the God of Israel. ¹⁵ And the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath Arba;* Arba was the greatest person among the Anakites. And the land rested from war.

¹ Samson went down to Gaza; there he saw a prostitute and _⌊had sex with her_⌋.*

²⁰ and all the other* people; and all the kings of the land of Uz; and all the kings of the land of the Philistines—*Ashkelon, and Gaza, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod;

⁸ How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I hand you over, O Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? My heart is disturbed* within me; _⌊all_⌋* my compassions are aroused.

⁶ And the sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.

¹⁰ These are the generations* of Shem. When Shem _⌊was one hundred years old_⌋,* he fathered Arphaxad, two years after the flood. ¹¹ And Shem lived five hundred years after he fathered Arphaxad, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ¹² When Arphaxad had lived thirty-five years, he fathered Shelah. ¹³ And Arphaxad lived four hundred and three years after he fathered Shelah, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ¹⁴ When Shelah had lived thirty years, he fathered Eber. ¹⁵ And Shelah lived four hundred and three years after he fathered Eber, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ¹⁶ When Eber had lived thirty-four years, he fathered Peleg. ¹⁷ And Eber lived four hundred and thirty years after he fathered Peleg, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ¹⁸ When Peleg had lived thirty years, he fathered Reu. ¹⁹ And Peleg lived two hundred and nine years after he fathered Reu, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ²⁰ When Reu had lived thirty-two years, he fathered Serug. ²¹ And Reu lived two hundred and seven years after he fathered Serug, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ²² When Serug had lived thirty years, he fathered Nahor. ²³ And Serug lived two hundred years after he fathered Nahor, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ²⁴ When Nahor had lived twenty-nine years, he fathered Terah. ²⁵ And Nahor lived one hundred and nineteen years after he fathered Terah, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ²⁶ When Terah had lived seventy years, he fathered Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

²⁶ Then* he said,
"Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Shem, and let Canaan be a slave to them.

¹ And it happened that in the days of Amraphel, the king of Shinar, Arioch, the king of Ellasar, Kedorlaomer, the king of Elam, and Tidal, the king of Goiim, ² made war with Bera, the king of Sodom, and Birsha, the king of Gomorrah, Shinab, the king of Admah, and Shemeber, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar). ³ All these joined forces at the valley of Siddim (that is, the sea of the salt). ⁴ Twelve years they had served Kedorlaomer, but in the thirteenth year they rebelled. ⁵ In the fourteenth year Kedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and defeated the Rephaim in Ashteroth-Karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-Kiriathaim, ⁶ And the Horites in their hill country of Seir, as far as El-Paran, which is at the wilderness. ⁷ Then* they turned back and came to En-Mishpat (that is, Kadesh). And they defeated the whole territory of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites who were living in Hazazon-Tamar. ⁸ Then* the king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (that is, Zoar) went out, and _⌊they took up battle position_⌋* in the Valley of Siddim ⁹ with Kedorlaomer, king of Elam, and Tidal, king of Goiim, and Amraphel, king of Shinar, and Arioch, king of Ellasar, four kings against five.

⁷ And he lifted up his oracle and said,
"From Aram Balak lead me, from the mountains of the east the king of Moab, 'Go for me, curse Jacob, and go, denounce Israel.'

¹⁹ Pul the king of Assyria came against the land, so Menahem gave a thousand talents of silver to Pul so that his hand would be with him _⌊to strengthen his hold on the kingdom_⌋.*

¹⁷ The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, Aram, Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech. ¹⁸ And Arphaxad fathered Shelah; and Shelah fathered Eber. ¹⁹ And two sons were born to Eber: the name of the one was Peleg (for in his days the earth was divided), and the name of his brother was Joktan. ²⁰ And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²¹ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²² Ebal,* Abimael, Sheba, ²³ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. ²⁴ Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah; ²⁵ Eber, Peleg, Reu; ²⁶ Serug, Nahor, Terah; ²⁷ Abram, that is, Abraham.

¹⁷ While this one was still speaking, _⌊another_⌋* came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three divisions, and they made a raid on the camels, and they carried them away, and they struck your servants _⌊by the edge of the sword_⌋,* but I escaped, even I alone, to tell you."

² A hard revelation is told to me;
the treacherous deals treacherously, and the destroyer destroys. Go up, Elam; lay siege, Media!
I put an end to all of her sighing.

⁶ And Elam lifted up the quiver, with chariots* of men* and cavalry. And Kir uncovered the shield.

²⁵ and all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of Media;

³⁴ The word of Yahweh that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah the king of Judah, _⌊saying_⌋,* ³⁵ "Thus says Yahweh of hosts:
'Look, I am going to break the bow of Elam, the first and best of their might. ³⁶ And I will bring to Elam four winds, from the four corners of heaven, and I will scatter them to all these winds, and there will not be a nation where the scattered people of Elam will not go. ³⁷ So I will shatter Elam _⌊before_⌋* their enemies, and _⌊before_⌋* the seekers of their life. And I will bring disaster upon them, _⌊my burning anger_⌋,*' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. 'And I will send after them the sword until I have destroyed them. ³⁸ And I will set my throne in Elam and I will destroy from there king and officials,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. ³⁹ '_⌊And then_⌋* in the last of the days I will restore the fortunes* of Elam,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh."

⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites and those residing in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,*

¹ There was a man in the land of Uz whose* name was Job. That* man was blameless and upright and God-fearing and turning away from evil.

¹² When Arphaxad had lived thirty-five years, he fathered Shelah. ¹³ And Arphaxad lived four hundred and three years after he fathered Shelah, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ¹⁴ When Shelah had lived thirty years, he fathered Eber. ¹⁵ And Shelah lived four hundred and three years after he fathered Eber, and he fathered other sons and daughters.

³⁵ the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah,*

³² These are the families of the sons of Noah, according to their generations* and in their nations. And from these the nations spread abroad on the earth after the flood.

¹⁶ When Eber had lived thirty-four years, he fathered Peleg. ¹⁷ And Eber lived four hundred and thirty years after he fathered Peleg, and he fathered other sons and daughters. ¹⁸ When Peleg had lived thirty years, he fathered Reu. ¹⁹ And Peleg lived two hundred and nine years after he fathered Reu, and he fathered other sons and daughters.

¹⁹ And two sons were born to Eber: the name of the one was Peleg (for in his days the earth was divided), and the name of his brother was Joktan.

³⁵ the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Eber, the son of Shelah,* ³⁶ the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech,

²⁶ And he made from one man every nation of humanity to live on all the face of the earth, determining their fixed times and the fixed boundaries of their habitation,

²⁰ And Joktan fathered Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, ²¹ Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, ²² Ebal,* Abimael, Sheba, ²³ Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab; all these were the sons of Joktan. ²⁴ Shem, Arphaxad, Shelah; ²⁵ Eber, Peleg, Reu; ²⁶ Serug, Nahor, Terah; ²⁷ Abram, that is, Abraham. ²⁸ The sons of Abraham: Isaac and Ishmael.

³ And Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim and Letushim and Leummim.

¹⁸ They settled from Havilah to Shur, which was opposite* Egypt, going toward Asshur, opposite;* he _⌊settled_⌋* opposite* all his brothers.

⁷ Then Saul defeated the Amalekites from Havilah as one goes to Shur which is _⌊east of_⌋* Egypt.

²⁸ They went to Ophir and imported from there four hundred and twenty talents of gold, and they brought it to King Solomon.

⁴⁸ Jehoshaphat built* ships of the Tarshish type to go to Ophir for the gold; but he did not go because the ships were destroyed at Ezion-Geber.

¹⁸ Ishmerai, Izliah, and Jobab were the sons of Elpaal.

¹⁰ And from the priests: Jedaiah; Jehoiarib; Jakin;

¹³ and their kinsmen, heads of the house of their fathers, one thousand seven hundred and sixty mighty men for the work of the service of the house of God.

²⁴ and if you put gold ore in the dust, and the gold of Ophir in the rock of wadis,

¹⁶ It cannot be bought for the gold of Ophir, for precious onyx or* sapphire.

⁹ Kings' daughters are among your noble ladies. The queen stands at your right hand in gold of Ophir.

¹² I will make humanity more rare than gold and humankind more than the gold of Ophir.

⁵ From these the coastland peoples spread out through their lands, each according to his own language by their own families, in their nations.

²⁹ And he called his name Noah, saying, "This one _⌊shall relieve us_⌋* from our work, and from the hard labor of our hands, from the ground which Yahweh had cursed. ³⁰ And after Lamech had fathered Noah he lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and he fathered sons and daughters. ³¹ All the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years, and he died.

¹ These are the generations* of the sons of Noah—Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Children* were born to them after the flood.

³¹ These are the sons of Shem, according to their families, according to their languages, in their lands, and according to their nations.
