⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Woe to the city of bloodguilt! A pot that has its rust in it; _⌊its rust did not go out from it_⌋.* Bring it out _⌊piece by piece_⌋;* _⌊one is as good as another_⌋.*

¹⁶ So* Joshua rose early in the morning and brought forward Israel, _⌊tribe by tribe_⌋,* and the tribe of Judah was selected by lot. ¹⁷ And he brought forward the clans of Judah and selected the clan of the Zerahites* by lot. Then he brought forward the clan of the Zerahites,* one by one, and Zabdi was selected by lot. ¹⁸ He brought forward his family, one by one, and Achan son of Carmi son of Zabdi son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected by lot.

²² And Joshua said, "Open the mouth of the cave, and bring to me those five kings from the cave."

⁴⁰ Then he said to all Israel, "You will be _⌊on one side_⌋,* and I and my son Jonathan will be _⌊on the other_⌋."* And the army said to Saul, "Do what is good in your eyes." ⁴¹ Then Saul said to Yahweh the God of Israel, "_⌊Render a decision perfectly_⌋."* Jonathan and Saul were chosen by lot and the people went out. ⁴² Then Saul said, "Let them cast the lot between me and my son Jonathan," and Jonathan was chosen.

² When he defeated Moab, he measured them with the cord, making them lie on the ground. He measured two cords to kill and _⌊the third cord_⌋* to let live.* So Moab became servants of David, bringing tribute.

¹⁶ Moreover, Manasseh shed very much innocent blood until he filled Jerusalem _⌊from one end to another_⌋,* apart from his sin which he caused Judah to sin by doing evil in the eyes of Yahweh.

⁴ Also, for the blood of the innocent that he had shed—and he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood—Yahweh was not willing to forgive.

²⁹ The bellows* are burned up, lead is consumed by fire. _⌊In vain_⌋* _⌊he keeps on refining_⌋,* but the wicked are not torn apart.

⁵ And to the others he said in my hearing, "Go through the city behind him and kill! Your eyes shall not take pity, and you shall not have compassion. ⁶ You must kill _⌊totally_⌋* old man, young man and young woman, and little children and women, but _⌊concerning_⌋* every man _⌊with the mark on him_⌋* you must not approach; and from my sanctuary you must begin." And they began with the old men who _⌊were before_⌋* the house.*

⁶ You made your slain ones numerous in this city, and you have filled its streets with slain ones." '* ⁷ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Your slain ones whom you put in its midst, they are the flesh, and it is the pot, and I* will bring you out from its midst. ⁸ The sword you have feared, and the sword I will bring against you!" _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. ⁹ "And I will bring you out from its midst, and I will give you into the hand of strangers, and I will execute judgments against you.

¹¹ It will not be as a pot to you, and so you would be* in the midst of it as flesh, for at the border of Israel I will judge you.

² "And you, son of man,* will you judge? Will you judge the _⌊bloody city_⌋?* Then you must make known to her all of her detestable things!

⁶ Look! The princes of Israel, each one according to his strength,* they are in you _⌊for the shedding of blood_⌋.* ⁷ They have treated father and mother with contempt in you; _⌊they violated_⌋* the alien with* extortion; in the midst of you they mistreated the orphan and widow. ⁸ You despised my holy objects; my Sabbaths you profaned. ⁹ Slanderous men are _⌊among you_⌋* to shed blood, and they, _⌊among you_⌋,* eat upon the mountains; they do wickedness in the midst of you.

¹² They take a bribe among* you in order to shed blood; and you take usury, and you make gain from your neighbors by extortion, and so you have forgotten me, _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

²⁷ Its officials are like wolves tearing prey in its midst, to pour out blood, to destroy people, to make dishonest gain.

³⁷ For they committed adultery, and blood is on their hands, and they committed adultery with their idols, and even their children that they had borne for me—they sacrificed them as food! ³⁸ Also they did this to me: they defiled my sanctuary on that day, and they profaned my Sabbaths, ³⁹ and when they slaughtered their children for their idols, they came to my sanctuary on that day to profane it. And look, _⌊this is what they did in my house_⌋!* ⁴⁰ _⌊What is worse_⌋,* they sent for men _⌊who come_⌋* from a distant place, to whom a messenger was sent to them, and look! They came! Men for whom you bathed and painted your eyes, and you adorned yourself with an ornament. ⁴¹ And you sat on a magnificent couch and a table prepared _⌊before her_⌋,* and my incense and my olive oil you put on her.* ⁴² And a sound of a carefree crowd was with it,* and in addition to these men, _⌊a crowd of drunken men* was brought in_⌋* from the desert,* and they put bracelets on their arms and a crown of splendor on their heads. ⁴³ And I said to* the one worn out with adulteries, 'Now they will prostitute her concerning her fornication, even her.'* ⁴⁴ And so they went to her like going to a female* prostitute; and thus they went to Oholah and to Oholibah, the women of obscene conduct. ⁴⁵ But righteous men, they will judge them with the judgment of committing adultery, and with the judgment of shedding blood; for they were committing adultery, and blood was on their hands."

⁹ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Woe to the city of bloodguilt! I, even I, will make the pile of wood great!

¹¹ And _⌊make it stand_⌋* empty upon its burning coals so that it may become hot, and its copper may become molten and be melted in the midst of it,* so that its uncleanness and its rust be consumed. ¹² Through effort she has caused weariness; _⌊its thick rust_⌋* went not out of it. Its rust! Into the fire with its rust! ¹³ In your uncleanness is obscene conduct, because I cleansed you, but you were not clean from your uncleanness; you will not be clean again until _⌊I fully vent my rage_⌋* on you.

³ For my people they cast lots,* and _⌊they traded_⌋* the male child for the prostitute, and the female child they sold for wine and they drank it.

¹¹ On _⌊the day you stood nearby_⌋,* _⌊on the day strangers took_⌋* his wealth, and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots over Jerusalem, you were also like one of them.

⁷ And they said _⌊to one another_⌋,* "Come, let us cast lots so that we may know on whose account this disaster has come on us!" And they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah.

² The faithful person has perished from the land, and there is none who is upright among humankind. All of them lie in wait; each hunts his brother with a net.

¹ Woe to the city that has shed _⌊much blood_⌋!* _⌊She is a deceiver_⌋,* She is filled with plunder, _⌊She has hoarded her spoils of war_⌋.*

¹⁰ Yet she went into captivity as an exile; her children were dashed to pieces at the head of the streets; they cast lots for all of her nobles; all of her dignitaries were bound with chains.

³⁵ so that upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on the earth from the blood of righteous Abel up to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

⁷ And when they have completed their testimony, the beast that comes up from the abyss will make war with them and will conquer them and will kill them. ⁸ And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which is called symbolically Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.

⁶ And I saw the woman drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the witnesses to Jesus.
And _⌊I was greatly astonished when I saw her_⌋*.

²⁴ And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints and all those who had been slaughtered on the earth.
