³ And _⌊deliver a proverb_⌋* to _⌊the rebellious house_⌋,* and you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Place the pot! Place it and also pour water into it.

² I will offer* a parable with my mouth. I will pour out riddles from long ago,

² Hear, heavens, and listen, earth, for Yahweh has spoken: "I reared children and I brought them up, but they rebelled against me.

¹ "Oh rebellious children!" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh,
"to make a plan, but* not from me, and pour out a libation, but* not from my Spirit, _⌊so as to add_⌋* sin to sin.

⁹ For it is a people of rebellion, deceitful children, children who are not willing to hear the instruction of Yahweh,

¹⁰ But* they _⌊were the ones who_⌋* rebelled, and they grieved _⌊his Holy Spirit_⌋,* so* he _⌊became an enemy to them_⌋;* he himself fought against them.

¹³ And the word of Yahweh came to me a second time, _⌊saying_⌋,* "What are you seeing?" And I said, "I am seeing a _⌊boiling_⌋* pot, and its face is from the face of the north."

¹³ Because of the anger of Yahweh she will not be inhabited, but she will be a wasteland, all of her. Everyone who passes by Babylon will be appalled and will hiss because of all her wounds. ¹⁴ Draw up a battle formation at Babylon all around, all those who bend the bow, shoot at her. You must not spare arrows,* for she has sinned against Yahweh.

³ And he said to me, "Son of man,* I am sending you to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* to nations* who are rebelling, who rebelled against me, they and their ancestors,* they transgressed against me _⌊until this very day_⌋.*

⁶ And you, son of man,* you must not be afraid of them, and you must not be afraid of their words, because* briers and thorns are with you, and you are sitting among scorpions. You must not be afraid of their words, and you must not be dismayed because of their _⌊looks_⌋,* for they are a rebellious house.

⁸ And you, son of man,* hear what I am speaking to you: you must not be rebellious like the house of rebellion. Open your mouth and eat what I am giving to you."

⁹ Like a diamond _⌊harder than flint_⌋* I have made your forehead; you must not fear them, and you must not be dismayed _⌊on account of them_⌋,* for they _⌊are a rebellious house_⌋.*

³ who are saying, "The building of houses is not near; the city is the pot, and we are the flesh.

⁷ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Your slain ones whom you put in its midst, they are the flesh, and it is the pot, and I* will bring you out from its midst.

¹¹ It will not be as a pot to you, and so you would be* in the midst of it as flesh, for at the border of Israel I will judge you.

² "Son of man,* you are dwelling in the midst of the house of rebellion _⌊who has eyes to see and they do not see_⌋;* _⌊they have ears to hear_⌋,* and they do not hear, for they are a house of rebellion.

²⁵ For I, Yahweh, I will speak what I will speak as a word, and it will be done. It will not prolong itself any longer, for in your days, house of rebellion, I will speak a word and I will fulfill it!" _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

² "Son of man,* tell a riddle and quote a proverb to the house of Israel,

¹² "Say now to the rebellious house of Israel, 'Do you not know what these are?'* Say, 'Look! The king of Babylon will come to Jerusalem, and he will take its king and its officials, and he will bring* them to himself,* to Babylon.

² and you must say,
'What a lioness was your mother among the lions. She lay down in the midst of young lions, and she reared her lion cubs. ³ And she raised up one from her cubs; he became a fierce lion, and he learned to tear prey; he ate* humans.* ⁴ And nations heard about him; in their pit he was caught, and they brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt. ⁵ And she saw* that she was waiting in vain; her hope was destroyed, and she took one from her cubs, and she made him a fierce lion. ⁶ And he walked about in the midst of lions; he became a fierce lion, and he learned to tear prey; he ate* humans.* ⁷ And he knew their widows,* and he devastated their cities, and the land was appalled, and _⌊everyone in it_⌋* at the sound of his roar. ⁸ And nations set out against him _⌊from the surrounding provinces_⌋,* and they spread their net over him, and he was caught in their pit. ⁹ And they put him in a collar with hooks, and they brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him into* a prison, so that his voice would not be heard _⌊any longer_⌋* on the mountains of Israel. ¹⁰ Your mother was like the vine in your vineyard;* planted _⌊fruitfully_⌋* beside water, and it was full of branches from many waters.* ¹¹ And _⌊she produced branches of strength_⌋* to* scepters of rulers; its height became tall between* thick foliage, and it was seen* because of its tallness among the abundance of its branches. ¹² But it was uprooted in rage; it was thrown to the earth, and the east wind dried up its fruit; they were stripped off, and its strong branch dried up; fire consumed it. ¹³ And now it is planted in the desert, in a _⌊dry and thirsty land_⌋.* ¹⁴ And so fire has gone out from the stem of its branches; its fruit it has consumed, and there was not in it _⌊a strong branch_⌋,* a scepter for ruling.'"
This is a lament, and _⌊it will be used as a lament_⌋.*

⁴⁹ Then I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh, they are saying about me, 'Is he not posing a parable?'"

⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Woe to the city of bloodguilt! A pot that has its rust in it; _⌊its rust did not go out from it_⌋.* Bring it out _⌊piece by piece_⌋;* _⌊one is as good as another_⌋.*

⁴ In that day they will raise a proverb against you, and will wail a bitter wailing, saying, "We are utterly ruined; he exchanges the portion of my people. How he removes it from me; he apportions our field to an apostate."

¹² And they were seeking to arrest him, and they were afraid of the crowd, because they knew that he had told the parable with reference to them. And they left him and* went away.

¹⁰ And he said, "To you it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to the rest they are in parables, so that
'Seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.'*

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked people and uncircumcised in hearts and in your* ears! You constantly resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so also do you!
