' _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. ⁴ Will you judge them? Will you judge them, son of man?* Make known to them the detestable things of their ancestors.* ⁵ And you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "On the day of my choosing Israel _⌊I swore_⌋* to the offspring of the house of Jacob, and I made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, and _⌊I swore_⌋* to them, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'I am Yahweh your God.' ⁶ On that day _⌊I swore_⌋* to them to bring them out from the land of Egypt to the land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey—it is the most beautiful of all of the lands. ⁷ Then I said to them, 'Let each one throw away the detestable things of his eyes, and you must not make yourselves unclean with the idols of Egypt! I am Yahweh your God.' ⁸ But they rebelled against me, and they were not willing to listen to me; each one _⌊did not throw away_⌋* the detestable things of their eyes; and _⌊they did not abandon_⌋* the idols of Egypt, and I decided to pour out my rage on them, to fully vent my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. ⁹ "But* I acted for the sake of my name _⌊to keep it from being profaned_⌋* before the eyes of the nations _⌊among whom they lived_⌋,* where I made known to them before their eyes, to bring them out from the land of Egypt. ¹⁰ And I brought them out from the land of Egypt, and I brought them to the desert, ¹¹ and I gave my statutes to them, and my regulations I made known to them, which, if a person does them, then he will live by them. ¹² And also my Sabbaths I gave to them to be a sign between me and between them _⌊so they would know_⌋* that I, Yahweh, am the one sanctifying them. ¹³ "But* in the desert the house of Israel rebelled against me; _⌊they did not walk in my statutes_⌋,* and they rejected my regulations, which, if a person does them, he will live by them, and they greatly profaned my Sabbaths, and I decided to pour out my rage on them in the desert to destroy them, ¹⁴ and I acted for the sake of my name, that it not be profaned before the eyes of the nations _⌊before whom I brought them out_⌋.* ¹⁵ And also _⌊I myself swore_⌋* to them in the desert not to bring them into the land that I had given to them, flowing with milk and honey—it is the most beautiful of all of the lands— ¹⁶ because they despised my judgments, and _⌊they did not walk in my statutes_⌋,* and my Sabbaths they profaned, for their heart was going after their idols. ¹⁷ But my eye took pity on them by not destroying them, and _⌊I did not completely destroy them_⌋* in the desert. ¹⁸ "And I said to their children in the desert, 'You must not go in the statutes of your parents;* you must not keep their regulations, and you must not make yourself unclean with their idols. ¹⁹ I, Yahweh, am your God, so go in my statutes and keep my regulations and do them. ²⁰ And treat my Sabbaths as holy, and they will be a sign between me and between you _⌊that you may know_⌋* that I, Yahweh, am your God.' ²¹ But the children rebelled against me; _⌊they did not walk in my statutes_⌋,* and _⌊they did not observe my regulations_⌋,* which if a person does them, then he will live by them. My Sabbaths they desecrated, and I decided to pour out my rage on them, to finish my anger against them in the desert. ²² But I withheld my hand, and I acted for the sake of my name not to be profaned before the eyes of the nations before whom I had brought them out before their eyes. ²³ What is more, _⌊I swore_⌋* to them in the desert to scatter them among the nations and to disperse them in the lands, ²⁴ because they did not do my regulations, and my statutes they despised, and my Sabbaths they profaned, and their eyes were after the idols of their ancestors.* ²⁵ And in turn I gave to them rules that were not good and regulations _⌊by which they will not live_⌋.* ²⁶ And I defiled them through their gifts in sacrificing all of the first offspring of the womb, in order that* I will cause them to be stunned, so that they will know that I am Yahweh. ²⁷ "Therefore speak to the house of Israel, son of man,* and you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Again in this your ancestors blasphemed me _⌊at* their display of infidelity toward me_⌋." '* ²⁸ And I brought them to the land that _⌊I swore_⌋* to give* to them, and they saw every high hill and every leafy tree, and they offered their sacrifices, and they presented there the provocation of their offering, and they gave there their fragrant incense offering, and they poured out their libations there. ²⁹ And I said to them, 'What is the high place* to which you are going?' And _⌊it is called_⌋* Bamah until this day. ³⁰ Therefore thus say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "In the way of your ancestors* will you defile yourself, and after their vile idols will you prostitute yourselves? ³¹ And _⌊when you lift up your gifts, sacrificing your children_⌋* through the fire, you are defiling yourself through all of your idols until _⌊today_⌋,* and will I let myself* be consulted by you, house of Israel?" ' _⌊As I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "I will not let myself* be consulted by you! ³² And _⌊what you are planning_⌋,* surely it will not be—that you are saying, 'Let us be like the nations, like the clans* of the lands, _⌊serving wood and stone_⌋!'* ³³ "_⌊As I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "_⌊surely_⌋* with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm and with _⌊rage pouring forth_⌋* I will reign as king over you! ³⁴ And I will bring you from the peoples, and I will gather you from the countries to which you were scattered with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm and with rage poured out. ³⁵ Then I will bring you to the desert of the peoples, and I will execute justice on you there face to face. ³⁶ _⌊Just as_⌋* I executed justice on your ancestors* in the desert of the land of Egypt, likewise I will execute justice on you!" _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. ³⁷ "And I will make you pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant. ³⁸ And I will purge the rebels from among you and the ones transgressing against me; I will bring them out from the land _⌊where they are living as aliens_⌋,* but into the land of Israel they will not come, and then you will know that I am Yahweh. ³⁹ And you, house of Israel, thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Let each one go serve his idols now and after, if you are not listening to me, but _⌊my holy name_⌋* you will not profane any longer with your gifts and with your idols. ⁴⁰ "For on _⌊my holy mountain_⌋,* on the mountain of the height of Israel," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "there all of the house of Israel will serve me, all of them,* in the land. I will take pleasure in them, and there I will accept your contributions and the best of your portions with all of your holy objects. ⁴¹ I will accept you as _⌊a fragrant incense offering_⌋* when I bring you out from the peoples and I gather you from the lands to which you were scattered, and I will show myself holy among you before the eyes of the nations. ⁴² And you will know that I am Yahweh _⌊when I bring you_⌋ to the land of Israel, to the land that _⌊I swore_⌋* to give to your ancestors. ⁴³ And you will remember there your ways, and all of your deeds _⌊by which you were made unclean_⌋,* and you will feel a loathing _⌊for yourself_⌋* for all of your evils that you have done. ⁴⁴ And you will know that I am Yahweh _⌊when I deal with you_⌋* for the sake of my name and _⌊not according to your evil ways_⌋* or _⌊according to_⌋* your corrupted deeds, house of Israel," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. ⁴⁵ * And the word of Yahweh _⌊came_⌋* to me, _⌊saying_⌋,* ⁴⁶ "Son of man,* set your face toward the way of the south,* and preach to the south, and prophesy against the forest of the territory of the Negev. ⁴⁷ And you must say to the forest of the Negev, 'Hear the word of Yahweh, thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I am kindling against you a fire, and it will devour in you every fresh tree and every dry tree; the blaze of the flame will not be quenched, and all the surfaces from the south to the north will be scorched by it. ⁴⁸ And all creatures will see that I, Yahweh, I kindled it—it will not be quenched!" '" ⁴⁹ Then I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh, they are saying about me, 'Is he not posing a parable?'"

² Jeroboam said to his wife, "Please get up and disguise yourself so that they will not know that you are the wife of Jeroboam, and go to Shiloh. Look, Ahijah the prophet is there, and he spoke concerning me before I became king over this people. ³ You must take ten loaves of bread in your hand and cakes and a jar of honey, and you must go to him. He shall tell you what will happen to the boy." ⁴ The wife of Jeroboam did so. She got up, went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. Now Ahijah was not able to see, for _⌊his eyes were fixed_⌋* because of his old age. ⁵ Then Yahweh said to Ahijah, "Look, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to seek a word from you about her son, for he is ill. _⌊Thus and so_⌋* you shall say to her. When she comes, she will be disguising herself." ⁶ It happened at the moment Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps coming through the doorway, he said, "Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why are you making yourself unrecognizable? I have been sent a hard message for you:

¹⁵ When he came to the king, the king asked him, "Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-Gilead to the battle, or shall we refrain?" He said to him, "Go up and triumph, and Yahweh will give it into the hand of the king." ¹⁶ Then the king said to him, "How many times must I make you swear that you shall not tell me anything but truth in the name of Yahweh?" ¹⁷ So he said, "I saw all of Israel scattering to the mountains, like the sheep without a shepherd. Yahweh also said, 'There are no masters for these, let them return in peace, each to his house.'" ¹⁸ Then the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "Did I not say to you that he would not prophesy good concerning me, but disaster?" ¹⁹ And he* said, "Therefore, hear the word of Yahweh. I saw Yahweh sitting on his throne with all the hosts of heaven standing beside him from his right hand and from his left hand. ²⁰ And Yahweh said, 'Who will entice Ahab so that he will go up and fall at Ramoth-Gilead?' Then _⌊this one was saying one thing and the other one was saying another_⌋.* ²¹ Then a spirit came out and stood before Yahweh and said, 'I will entice him,' and Yahweh said to him, 'How?' ²² He said, 'I will go out and I will be a false spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And he* said, 'You shall entice and succeed, go out and do so.' ²³ So then, see that Yahweh has placed a false spirit in the mouth of all of these your prophets, and Yahweh has spoken disaster concerning you." ²⁴ Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah came near and slapped Micaiah on the cheek and said, "When did the Spirit of Yahweh pass from me to speak with you?" ²⁵ Then Micaiah said, "Behold, you are about to see on that day when you go _⌊from room to room_⌋* to hide." ²⁶ The king of Israel said, "Take Micaiah and return him to Amon the commander of the city and to Jehoash the son of the king; ²⁷ and say, 'Thus says the king: "Put this fellow in the house of imprisonment and feed him reduced rations of food and water until I come in peace." '" ²⁸ Then Micaiah said, "If you indeed return in peace, then Yahweh has not spoken with me." Then he said, "Let all the peoples hear!"

¹³ Then Elisha said to the king of Israel, "_⌊What do we have in common_⌋?* Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother." Then the king of Israel said to him, "No, for Yahweh has called for these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab."

¹³ And the Lord said,
"Because this people draw near with its mouth, and with its lips it honors me, and its heart is far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment of men that has been taught,

² Yet* they seek me day by day, and they desire the knowledge of my ways like a nation that _⌊practiced_⌋* righteousness, and had not forsaken the judgment of its God; they ask me for _⌊righteous judgments_⌋,* they desire the closeness of God.

¹⁷ Then King Zedekiah sent and fetched him. And the king questioned him in secrecy in his house, and he said, "Is there a word from Yahweh?" And Jeremiah said, "There is." And he said, "You will be given into the hand of the king of Babylon."

² On the fifth day of the month—it was the fifth year of the exile of the king Jehoiachin—

¹ _⌊And then_⌋* in the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, I was sitting in my house, and the elders of Judah were sitting _⌊before me_⌋.* And the hand of the Lord Yahweh fell on me there,

¹ And men from the elders of Israel came to me, and they sat _⌊before me_⌋.* ² And the word of Yahweh _⌊came_⌋* to me, _⌊saying_⌋,* ³ "Son of man,* these men took up their idols into their heart and _⌊they placed before themselves_⌋* a stumbling block of their guilt.* _⌊Should I really let myself be consulted by them_⌋?*

¹ And the word of Yahweh _⌊came_⌋* to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, _⌊saying_⌋,*

¹ And it was in the _⌊eleventh_⌋* year, on the first day of the month, the word of Yahweh _⌊came_⌋* to me, _⌊saying_⌋,*

³⁰ "And you, son of man,* _⌊your people_⌋,* the ones talking together concerning you beside the walls and in the doorways of the houses, each one with his brother _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Please come and hear what is the word _⌊that is going out from Yahweh_⌋.'* ³¹ And they come to you _⌊as people do_⌋,* and they sit _⌊before you_⌋,* and my people hear your words, and they do not do them, for they are showing* passion in their mouth, but their heart is going after ill-gotten gain. ³² Now, look! You are to them like _⌊a sensual song_⌋,* beautiful of voice and _⌊played well on an instrument_⌋,* and they hear your words, _⌊but they are not doing them_⌋.* ³³ So* _⌊when it comes_⌋,* look! It is coming! And then they will know that a prophet was in the midst of them."

¹ In the twenty-fifth year of our exile, at the beginning of the year, on the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the city was destroyed, in this day exactly, the hand of Yahweh was on me, and he brought me there

¹⁶ And they sent their disciples to him with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and _⌊you do not care what anyone thinks_⌋,* _⌊because you do not regard the opinion of people_⌋.*

⁴⁶ And it happened that after three days they found him in the temple courts,* sitting in the midst of the teachers and listening to them and asking them questions.

³⁵ So they went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out sitting there clothed and in his right mind, at the feet of Jesus, and they were afraid.

³⁹ And _⌊she had_⌋* a sister named Mary, who also sat at the feet of Jesus* and* was listening to his teaching.

³ "I am a Jewish man born in Tarsus in Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, educated according to the exactness of the law received from our fathers, being zealous for God, just as all of you are today.

⁶ And Saul inquired of Yahweh, but Yahweh did not answer him, not by dreams or by the Urim* or by the prophets.

¹⁵ And call me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me." ¹⁶ But to the wicked God says, "What right have you to recite my statutes and _⌊mention my covenant with your mouth_⌋,* ¹⁷ while you yourself hate discipline, and cast my words behind you? ¹⁸ When you see a thief, then you are pleased with him, and your association is with adulterers. ¹⁹ You give your mouth free rein for evil, and you harness your tongue to deceit. ²⁰ You sit and speak against your brother; you slander your mother's son. ²¹ These things you have done, and I have been silent; You imagined that I was just like you. I will rebuke you and present an argument before your eyes.

⁸ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination of Yahweh, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

²⁷ The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it in divisiveness!

⁹ He who turns his ear from listening to instruction, even his prayer is an abomination.

¹² When you come to appear before me, who asked for this from your hand: you trampling my courts?

¹⁵ And when you stretch out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers,* I will not be listening. Your hands are full of blood.

³ "Son of man,* these men took up their idols into their heart and _⌊they placed before themselves_⌋* a stumbling block of their guilt.* _⌊Should I really let myself be consulted by them_⌋?* ⁴ Therefore speak with them, and you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Every person from the house of Israel who brings up his idols into his heart and _⌊places before himself_⌋* a stumbling block of his guilt* and yet he comes to the prophet, I Yahweh, I will respond to him through this act* with respect to the multitude* of his idols,

⁷ For _⌊each person_⌋* from the house of Israel, and from the alien who dwells as an alien in Israel, who separates himself _⌊from following me_⌋* and brings up his idols into his heart and _⌊places before himself_⌋* a stumbling block of his guilt*, and yet he comes to the prophet to consult him concerning me, I Yahweh will answer* him myself. ⁸ And I will set my face against that person, and I will make him to* be a sign and make him into* the subject of proverbs; and I will cut him off from the midst of my people, and you will know I am Yahweh.

³¹ And _⌊when you lift up your gifts, sacrificing your children_⌋* through the fire, you are defiling yourself through all of your idols until _⌊today_⌋,* and will I let myself* be consulted by you, house of Israel?" ' _⌊As I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "I will not let myself* be consulted by you!

⁷ Then the seers will be disgraced, and those practicing divination will be put to shame. All of them will cover their lips, for there is no reply from God.

⁷ But when he* saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

⁸ 'This people honors me with their* lips, but their heart is far, far away from me, ⁹ and they worship me in vain, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.'"*

⁷ Therefore he was saying to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, "Offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

²⁴ God is spirit, and the ones who worship him must worship in spirit and truth."

³ And now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and men* of Judah, judge between me and my vineyard.

¹⁶ "And you, you must not pray for this people, and you must not lift up for them a cry of entreaty or a prayer, and you must not plead with me, for I will not hear you.

¹⁴ Therefore you must not pray for this people, and you must not lift up for them a cry of entreaty, or a prayer, for I will not listen in the time of their calling to me, in the time of their trouble.

¹¹ So Yahweh said to me, "You must not pray for this people, for their happiness.* ¹² Although they fast, I am not listening to their cry of entreaty. And although they present burnt offering and grain offering, I am not favorable to them. But by the sword, and by the famine, and by the plague, I am about to destroy them." ¹³ Then I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh, look, the prophets are saying to them, 'You will not see the sword, and famine will not be yours, but reliable peace I will give to you in this place.'" ¹⁴ And Yahweh said to me, "The prophets are prophesying lies* in my name. I have not sent them, and I have not commanded them, and I have not spoken to them. They are prophesying to you a lying vision, and a divination, worthless, and the deceitfulness of their _⌊minds_⌋."*

¹ Then Yahweh said to me, "Even if Moses and Samuel stood _⌊before me_⌋,* my heart would not be to this people. Send them away from my _⌊sight_⌋,* and let them go out.

¹⁴ And if even the three of these men were in the midst of it—Noah, Daniel, and Job—they, through their righteousness, would save only _⌊themselves_⌋!"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

²⁰ and if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in the midst of her, _⌊as surely as I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "surely not a son, surely not a daughter will they save by their righteousness; they would save _⌊themselves_⌋."*

² "Son of man,* make known to Jerusalem its detestable things, ³ and you must say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh to Jerusalem: Your origin and your birth were from the land of the Canaanites,* your father was an Amorite, and your mother was a Hittite.

² "And you, son of man,* will you judge? Will you judge the _⌊bloody city_⌋?* Then you must make known to her all of her detestable things!

³⁶ And Yahweh said to me, "Son of man,* will you judge Oholah and Oholibah and declare their abominable deeds to* them?

⁴⁵ But righteous men, they will judge them with the judgment of committing adultery, and with the judgment of shedding blood; for they were committing adultery, and blood was on their hands."

²⁹ "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees—hypocrites!—because you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous, ³⁰ and you say, 'If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partners with them in the blood of the prophets!' ³¹ Thus you testify against yourselves that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets! ³² And you—fill up the measure of your fathers! ³³ Serpents! Offspring of vipers! How will you escape from the condemnation to hell? ³⁴ For this reason, behold, I am sending to you prophets and wise men and scribes. Some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will flog in your synagogues and will pursue from town to town, ³⁵ so that upon you will come all the righteous blood shed on the earth from the blood of righteous Abel up to the blood of Zechariah son of Barachiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Truly I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation! ³⁷ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How many times I wanted to gather your children together _⌊the way_⌋* a hen gathers her young together under her* wings, and you were not willing!

⁴⁷ Woe to you, because you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them! ⁴⁸ As a result you are witnesses, and you approve of the deeds of your fathers, because they killed them and you build their tombs!* ⁴⁹ For this reason also the wisdom of God said, 'I will send to them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,' ⁵⁰ so that the blood of all the prophets that has been shed from the foundation of the world may be required of this generation, ⁵¹ from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the temple building.* Yes, I tell you, it will be required of this generation!

³³ Nevertheless, it is necessary for me to be on the way today and tomorrow and on the next day, because it is not possible for a prophet to perish outside Jerusalem. ³⁴ "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How many times I wanted to gather your children together _⌊the way_⌋* a hen gathers* her own brood under her* wings, and you were not willing! ³⁵ Behold, your house has been left to you! And I tell you, you will never see me until the time* will come when you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!'"*

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked people and uncircumcised in hearts and in your* ears! You constantly resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so also do you! ⁵² Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand about the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become,

² Or do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if by you the world is judged, are you unworthy of the most insignificant courts?

²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have raised my hand to Yahweh, God Most High, Maker of heaven and earth,

⁶ And he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob." And Moses hid his face because he was afraid of looking at God.

⁸ And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

¹⁶ Go and gather the elders of Israel and say to them, 'Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* appeared to me, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, "I have carefully attended to you and what has been done to you in Egypt."

³¹ And the people believed when they heard that Yahweh had attended to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and that he had seen their misery, and they knelt down and they worshiped.

² And God spoke to Moses, and he said to him, "I am Yahweh.

⁶ Therefore say to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'I am Yahweh, and I will bring you out from under the _⌊forced labor_⌋* of Egypt, and I will deliver you from their slavery, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great punishments. ⁷ And I will take you _⌊as my people_⌋,* and I will be _⌊your God_⌋,* and you will know that I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from under the _⌊forced labor_⌋* of Egypt.

⁴ 'You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt and how I bore you on eagles' wings and I brought you to me. ⁵ And now if you will carefully listen to my voice and keep my covenant, you will be a treasured possession for me out of all the peoples, _⌊for all the earth is mine_⌋,* ⁶ but you, you will belong to me as a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words that you will speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋."*

² "I am Yahweh, your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves. ³ "There shall be for you no other gods before me.

³⁴ Or has a god ever attempted to go to take for himself* a nation from the midst of a nation, using trials and signs and wonders and war, with an outstretched arm and with great and awesome deeds, like all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

³⁷ And because he loved your ancestors* he chose their _⌊descendants_⌋* after them. And he brought you forth from Egypt _⌊with his own presence_⌋,* by his great strength,

⁶ For you are a holy people for Yahweh your God; Yahweh your God has chosen you to be for him a people, a treasured possession from among all the peoples that are on the face* of the earth.

² And you shall realize _⌊today_⌋* that it is not with your children who have not known and who have not seen the discipline of Yahweh your God—his greatness, his strong hand, and his outstretched arm, ³ and his signs and his deeds that he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and to all of his land, ⁴ and what he did to the army of Egypt and to their horses and to their chariots, and how he made the water of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* flow over them, _⌊when they pursued after them_⌋,* and so Yahweh has destroyed them, _⌊as is the case today_⌋,* ⁵ and what he did to you in the desert until you came up to this place, ⁶ and what he did to Dathan and to Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben, how the earth opened its mouth wide and swallowed them, their households and their tents, and all of the living creatures* that were in their possession and that were _⌊following along with them_⌋* in the midst of all of Israel. ⁷ The fact of the matter is, _⌊your own eyes have seen_⌋* all of the great deeds* of Yahweh that he did.

² For you are a people holy to Yahweh your God, and you Yahweh has chosen to be a treasured possession from among all of the peoples that are on the surface* of the earth.

⁴⁰ For indeed I lift up my hand to heaven, And I promise _⌊as I live forever_⌋,*

¹² Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people he has chosen for his inheritance.

⁷ who made known his ways to Moses, his deeds to the _⌊people_⌋* of Israel.

⁸ But* you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you, the _⌊offspring_⌋* of Abraham my _⌊friend_⌋,* ⁹ you whom I grasped from the ends of the earth and called from its remotest parts and told, "You are my servant; I have chosen you and I have not rejected you."

¹⁰ "You are my witnesses," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and my servant whom I have chosen so that you may know and believe _⌊in_⌋* me and understand that I am he. No god was formed before _⌊me_⌋*, and none shall be after me.

¹ "But now hear, Jacob my servant, and Israel, whom I have chosen. ² Thus says Yahweh, who made you, and who formed you in* the womb and will help you: you must not fear, my servant Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I have chosen.

²⁴ "Have you not seen how these people speak, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'The two clans* whom Yahweh chose, he has also rejected them'? Thus they spurn my people from being a nation _⌊before them_⌋* any longer.

¹⁵ And also _⌊I myself swore_⌋* to them in the desert not to bring them into the land that I had given to them, flowing with milk and honey—it is the most beautiful of all of the lands—

²³ What is more, _⌊I swore_⌋* to them in the desert to scatter them among the nations and to disperse them in the lands,

¹¹ Therefore, _⌊as I live_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh, "so I will deal with you according to your anger and according to your jealousy that you did,* because of your hatred against them, and I will make myself known among them when I judge you.

¹⁴ And you must take possession of it, each one a share like his brother, of this land which _⌊I swore_⌋* to give it to your fathers, and so this land shall fall to you as an inheritance.

²⁰ And if the Lord had not shortened the days, _⌊no human being would be saved_⌋.* But for the sake of the elect, whom he chose, he has shortened the days.

⁵ And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven

¹³ And he said to Abram, "_⌊You must surely know_⌋* that your descendants shall be as aliens in a land _⌊not their own_⌋.* And they shall serve them* and they* shall oppress them four hundred years. ¹⁴ And also the nation that they* serve I will judge. Then* afterward they shall go out with great possessions.

¹⁷ And I said, "I will bring you up from the misery of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites,* to a land flowing with milk and honey." '

⁵ And when Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites*—which he swore to your ancestors* to give to you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you will perform this service in this month.

¹ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* so that they turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol _⌊and the sea_⌋;* before Baal Zephon, which is opposite it, you will camp by the sea. ³ And Pharaoh will say of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'They are wandering around in the land. The desert has closed in on them.' ⁴ And I will harden the heart of Pharaoh, and he will chase after them, and I will be glorified through Pharaoh and through all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh." And they did so. ⁵ And it was told to the king of Egypt that the people fled, and the heart of Pharaoh was changed and that of his servants toward the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have released Israel from serving us!" ⁶ And he harnessed his chariot and took with him his people. ⁷ And he took six hundred select chariots and all the chariots of Egypt and officers over all of them. ⁸ And Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and he chased after the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* (Now the _⌊Israelites_⌋* were going out _⌊boldly_⌋.*) ⁹ And the Egyptians chased after them, and they overtook them encamped at the sea—all the horses of the chariots of Pharaoh and his charioteers and his army—at Pi-hahiroth before Baal Zephon. ¹⁰ And Pharaoh approached, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* lifted their eyes, and there were the Egyptians traveling after them! And they were very afraid, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried out to Yahweh. ¹¹ And they said to Moses, "Because there are no graves in Egypt? Is that why you have taken us to die in the desert? What is this you have done to us by bringing us out from Egypt! ¹² Isn't this the word we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone so that we can serve Egypt!' because serving Egypt is better for us than our dying in the desert." ¹³ And Moses said to the people, "You must not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will accomplish for you today, because the Egyptians whom you see today you will see never again. ¹⁴ Yahweh will fight for you, and you must be quiet." ¹⁵ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Why do you cry out to me? Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* so that they set out.*

³ Go to a land flowing with milk and honey, but I will not go up among you, because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I destroy you on the way."

²⁴ So* I said to you, "You yourselves shall take possession of their land, and I myself shall give it to you to possess it—a land flowing with milk and honey"; I am Yahweh your God, who _⌊has set you apart_⌋* from the nations.

²⁷ And they told him,* "We came to the land that you sent us, and it is flowing of milk and honey; this is its fruit.

⁸ If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and he will give it to us, a land that is flowing with milk and honey.

³ And you shall hear, Israel, and be careful to observe these instructions, so that _⌊it may go well for you_⌋* and that you may multiply greatly, just as Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* _⌊promised_⌋* you, in a land with milk and honey.

⁷ For Yahweh your God is bringing you to a good land with streams of water, springs and underground water, welling up in the valleys* and in the hills,* ⁸ to a land of wheat and barley and vines* and fig trees* and pomegranate trees,* a land of olive trees,* olive oil and honey; ⁹ to a land where you may eat food in it _⌊without scarcity_⌋;* you will not find anything lacking in it, a land where its stones are iron and from its mountains you can mine copper.

⁹ so that _⌊you may live long_⌋* on the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors,* to give it to them and to their offspring, a land flowing with milk and honey.

¹¹ But the land that you are about to cross into to take possession of it is a land of hills and valleys, and by the rain of the heaven it drinks water, ¹² a land that Yahweh your God is caring for it; continually the eyes of Yahweh your God are on it, from the beginning of the year up to the end of the year.

⁹ And he brought us to this place and gave to us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

¹⁵ Look down from the dwelling place of your holiness, from heaven, and bless your people Israel, and the land that you have given to us, as you swore to our ancestors,* a land flowing with milk and honey.'

³ and you shall write on them all the words of this law at your crossing, so that you may come into the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you, a land flowing with milk and honey, as Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* _⌊promised_⌋* to you.

²⁰ For when I bring them* into the land that I swore to their* ancestors,* a land flowing with milk and honey, _⌊they will eat their fill_⌋,* and they* will become fat, and then they* will turn to other gods, and they will serve them, and they will spurn me, and they* will break my covenant.

⁸ _⌊When the Most High apportioned_⌋* the nations, at his dividing up of the sons of humankind, he fixed the boundaries of the peoples, according to the number of the children of Israel.*

¹³ And he set him on the high places of the land, and he fed him the crops* of the field, and he nursed him with honey from crags,* and with oil from flinty rock, ¹⁴ With curds* from the herd, and with milk from the flock, with the fat of young rams, and rams, the offspring of Bashan, and with goats along with the finest kernels of wheat, and from the blood of grapes* you drank fermented wine.*

⁶ For forty years the _⌊Israelites_⌋* traveled in the wilderness until all the nation, the warriors that left Egypt, perished, because they did not listen to the voice of Yahweh. To them Yahweh swore that they would not see the land that he* swore to their ancestors* to give to us, a land flowing with milk and honey.

² Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is _⌊Mount Zion_⌋,* _⌊in the far north_⌋,* the city of the great king.

⁵ in order to keep the oath that I swore to your ancestors,* to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as it is this day." '" Then I answered and said, "_⌊Let it be so_⌋,* O Yahweh."

²² And you gave to them this land, which you swore to their ancestors* to give to them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁵ And you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "On the day of my choosing Israel _⌊I swore_⌋* to the offspring of the house of Jacob, and I made myself known to them in the land of Egypt, and _⌊I swore_⌋* to them, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'I am Yahweh your God.'

⁴² And you will know that I am Yahweh _⌊when I bring you_⌋ to the land of Israel, to the land that _⌊I swore_⌋* to give to your ancestors.

⁹ _⌊And from one of them_⌋* came forth a horn, _⌊a little one_⌋,* and it grew exceedingly* toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the beautiful land.

¹⁶ And the one coming to him will act _⌊according to_⌋* his pleasure, and there is no one who _⌊will stand_⌋* _⌊before him_⌋,* and he will stand in _⌊the beautiful land_⌋* and complete destruction will be in his power.

⁴¹ And he will come _⌊into the beautiful land_⌋* and many will fall victim, but these will escape from his power: Edom and Moab and the best part* of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋.*

¹⁴ 'And I scattered them with a wind among all the nations that they had not known; the land was made desolate behind them— no one crossing through it or returning—and they made the desirable land* a desolation.'"

¹² "I have heard the grumblings of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* Speak to them, saying, '_⌊At twilight_⌋* you will eat meat, and in the morning you will be full with bread, and you will know that I am Yahweh your God.'"

² "I am Yahweh, your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.

⁴ "You shall not make for yourself a divine image with any form that is in the heavens above or that is in the earth below or that is in the water below the earth.

⁴⁴ because I am Yahweh your God, and you must keep yourselves sanctified, so that* you shall be holy, because I am holy. And you must not make yourselves unclean with any swarmer that moves along on the land,

⁷ And _⌊they may no longer sacrifice_⌋* their sacrifices to the goat-idols after which they were prostituting. This is _⌊a lasting statute_⌋* for them _⌊throughout_⌋* their generations." '

³ You must not _⌊carry out_⌋* the practices of the land of Egypt, in which you lived, and you must not _⌊carry out_⌋* the practices of the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you; and you must not follow their statutes.

⁷ " 'And you shall consecrate yourselves, and you shall be holy, because I am Yahweh your God.

¹⁶ For you know how we lived in the land of Egypt and how we traveled through the midst of the nations that you traveled* through. ¹⁷ And you have seen their detestable things and their idols of wood and stone, silver, and gold that were among them, ¹⁸ so that _⌊there is not_⌋* among you a man or a woman or a clan or a tribe _⌊whose heart_⌋* turns _⌊today_⌋* from being with Yahweh our God to go to serve the gods of these nations, so that there is not among you a root sprouting poison and wormwood.

¹⁴ "So now, revere Yahweh and serve him in sincerity and faithfulness; remove the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river* and in Egypt, and serve Yahweh.

⁸ And when Asa heard these words, the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage and removed the vile idols from all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, and from the cities that he had taken in the hill country of Ephraim, and he repaired the altar of Yahweh that was in front of the portico of Yahweh.

²⁰ On that day humanity will throw away its idols of silver and its idols of gold, which they made for it to worship, to the rodents* and to the bats— ²¹ to enter into the crevices of the rocks and into the clefts of the crags from the presence of the terror of Yahweh and from the glory of his majesty, _⌊when he rises_⌋* to terrify the earth.

⁷ For on that day, each one will reject his idols of silver and his idols of gold which your hands have made in sin for you.

⁹ And your fugitives will remember me among the nations to which they were taken captive, that I was shattered by _⌊their adulterous heart_⌋* which departed from me, and by _⌊their adulterous eyes_⌋* which went after their idols, and they will feel loathing _⌊for themselves_⌋,* for the evil that they did, for all of their detestable things.

⁶ Therefore say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Return,* and turn away from your idols and from all of your detestable things! Turn away your faces!" '

⁶ and on the mountains he does not eat and he does not lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, and the wife of his neighbor he does not defile and he does not approach a woman of* menstruation,

¹⁵ On the mountains he does not eat, and he does not lift up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, and the wife of his neighbor he does not defile.

³¹ Throw _⌊away from yourselves_⌋* all of your transgressions that you committed,* and make _⌊for yourselves_⌋* a new heart and new spirit, and so why will you die, house of Israel?

⁸ But they rebelled against me, and they were not willing to listen to me; each one _⌊did not throw away_⌋* the detestable things of their eyes; and _⌊they did not abandon_⌋* the idols of Egypt, and I decided to pour out my rage on them, to fully vent my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.

¹⁹ I, Yahweh, am your God, so go in my statutes and keep my regulations and do them.

³ and they prostituted themselves in Egypt in their childhood; they were prostituting themselves there, and their breasts were fondled, and there they caressed the bosoms of their virginity.

⁸ And her whorings from the time of Egypt she did not abandon, for they slept with her in her childhood, and they caressed the bosoms of her virginity, and they poured out their fornication on her.

⁴ And he took from their hand, and he shaped it with a tool, and he made it a cast-image bull calf, and they said, "These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt." ⁵ And Aaron saw, and he built an altar before it, and Aaron called, and he said, "A feast for Yahweh tomorrow." ⁶ And they started early the next day, and they offered burnt offerings, and they presented fellowship offerings, and the people sat to eat and drink, and they rose up to revel.

⁷ Remember, _⌊do not forget_⌋,* that you provoked Yahweh your God in the desert, and from the day that you went out from the land of Egypt until _⌊you came to this place_⌋* you were rebelling against Yahweh.

²⁶ "But they rebelled and were rebellious against you and cast your law* behind their back and killed your prophets, who had warned them to turn back to you, and they did great blasphemies.

¹⁰ But* they _⌊were the ones who_⌋* rebelled, and they grieved _⌊his Holy Spirit_⌋,* so* he _⌊became an enemy to them_⌋;* he himself fought against them.

¹³ And my anger will come to an end, and I will place my rage on them, and I will relent, and they will know that I, Yahweh, have spoken in my passion _⌊when I fully vent my rage against them_⌋.*

⁸ _⌊Soon_⌋* I will pour out my rage on you, and I will fully vent my anger on you, and I will judge you according to your ways, and I will bring on you all of your detestable things.

⁷ Then I said to them, 'Let each one throw away the detestable things of his eyes, and you must not make yourselves unclean with the idols of Egypt! I am Yahweh your God.'

¹³ "But* in the desert the house of Israel rebelled against me; _⌊they did not walk in my statutes_⌋,* and they rejected my regulations, which, if a person does them, he will live by them, and they greatly profaned my Sabbaths, and I decided to pour out my rage on them in the desert to destroy them,

²¹ But the children rebelled against me; _⌊they did not walk in my statutes_⌋,* and _⌊they did not observe my regulations_⌋,* which if a person does them, then he will live by them. My Sabbaths they desecrated, and I decided to pour out my rage on them, to finish my anger against them in the desert.

¹² Why should the Egyptians _⌊say_⌋*, 'With evil intent he brought them out to kill them in the mountains and wipe them from the face of the earth'?* Turn from _⌊your fierce anger_⌋* and relent concerning the disaster for your people.

¹³ And Moses said to Yahweh, "Then the Egyptians will hear that you brought up this people from their* midst in your power, ¹⁴ and they will _⌊tell it_⌋* to the inhabitants of this land. They heard that you, Yahweh, are in the midst of this people, that you are seen eye to eye, and your cloud is standing over them, and in a column of cloud you go before them by day and in a column of fire at night. ¹⁵ But if you destroy this people _⌊all at once_⌋,* the nations that will have heard your message will say, ¹⁶ 'Yahweh was unable to bring this people in the land that he swore by an oath, and he slaughtered them in the desert.' ¹⁷ But now, please, let the power of my Lord be great, just has you spoke, ¹⁸ 'Yahweh is _⌊slow to anger_⌋* and great of loyal love, _⌊forgiving_⌋* sin and rebellion; but surely he leaves nothing unpunished, visiting the sin of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generations.' ¹⁹ Please forgive the sin of this people according to the greatness of your loyal love, just as you _⌊forgave_⌋* this people, from Egypt until now." ²⁰ Yahweh said, "I have forgiven them according to your word; ²¹ but as I am alive, the glory of Yahweh will fill all the earth. ²² But because all the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the desert yet tested me these ten times and did not listen to my voice, ²³ they will not see the land that I swore by oath to their ancestors,* and all those who despised me will not see it. ²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because another spirit was with him, he remained true after me, and I will bring him into the land that _⌊he entered_⌋,* and his offspring will take possession of it. ²⁵ And the Amalekites and the Canaanites live in the valleys; tomorrow turn and set out for the desert by way of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋."*

²⁸ lest the people of the land from which you brought us out from there say, "Because Yahweh was not able to bring them to the land that he _⌊promised_⌋* to them and because of his hatred toward them, he has brought them out to kill them in the desert."

²⁶ I thought, "I will wipe them out; _⌊I will make people forget they ever existed_⌋."* ²⁷ If I had not feared a provocation of the enemy, lest their foes might misunderstand, * lest they should say, * "Our hand is _⌊triumphant_⌋,* and Yahweh did not do all this." '

¹⁰ For we have heard how Yahweh dried up the waters of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* before you when you went out from Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites that were beyond the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.

⁹ The Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of this, and they will surround us and cut off our name from the land. What will you do, for your great name?"

⁹ And they said to him, "Your servants have come from a very far land because of the name of Yahweh your God; we have heard of his reputation, of all that he did in Egypt, ¹⁰ and of all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan—to Sihon king of Heshbon and to Og king of Bashan, who was in Ashtaroth.

⁸ Woe to us! Who can deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? These are the same gods who struck the Egyptians with all sorts of plagues in the desert.

²² For Yahweh will not forsake his people for the sake of his great name, because Yahweh has decided to make you his own people.

¹⁴ and I acted for the sake of my name, that it not be profaned before the eyes of the nations _⌊before whom I brought them out_⌋.*

²² But I withheld my hand, and I acted for the sake of my name not to be profaned before the eyes of the nations before whom I had brought them out before their eyes.

²¹ And I was concerned for _⌊my holy name_⌋,* which, the house of Israel defiled among the nations _⌊to which they went_⌋.* ²² "Therefore thus say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "_⌊Not for your sake_⌋ * am I about to act, house of Israel, _⌊but_⌋* _⌊for my holy name_⌋,* which you defiled among the nations _⌊to which you went_⌋.*

⁷ And _⌊my holy name_⌋* I will make known in the midst of my people Israel, and I will not let the name of my holiness be profaned anymore, and the nations will know that I am Yahweh, the holy one in Israel.

¹⁷ And when Pharaoh released the people, God did not lead them the way of the land of the Philistines, though it was nearer, because God said, "Lest the people change their mind when they see war and return to Egypt." ¹⁸ So God led the people around by the way of the desert to the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* went up in battle array from the land of Egypt.

¹⁷ And as for me, look, I am about to harden the heart of the Egyptians so that they come after them, and I will display my glory through Pharaoh and through all of his army, through his chariots and through his charioteers. ¹⁸ And the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I display my glory through Pharaoh, through his chariots, and through his charioteers." ¹⁹ And the angel of God who was going before the camp of Israel set out and went behind them. And the column of cloud set out ahead of them, and it stood still behind them, ²⁰ so that it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. And _⌊it was a dark cloud_⌋,* but it gave light to the night,* so that _⌊neither approached the other_⌋* all night. ²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh moved the sea* with a strong east wind all night, and he made the sea become dry ground, and the waters were divided. ²² And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* entered the middle of the sea on the dry land. The waters were a wall for them on their right and on their left.

²² And Moses caused Israel to set out from the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* and they went out into the desert of Shur, and they traveled three days in the desert, and they did not find water.

⁵ And you shall observe* my statutes and my regulations _⌊by which the person doing them shall live_⌋;* I am Yahweh.

⁸ And what other great nation has for it* just rules and regulations just like* _⌊this whole_⌋* law that I am setting _⌊before_⌋* you _⌊today_⌋?*

¹⁵ Thus you shall do to all the far* cities from you, which are not from the cities of these nations located _⌊nearby_⌋.* ¹⁶ But from the cities of these peoples that Yahweh your God is giving to you as an inheritance, you shall not let anything live that breathes.*

¹³ Then you came down on Mount Sinai and spoke with them from heaven and gave them right judgments and true teachings, good regulations and commandments. ¹⁴ You made known your holy Sabbath to them and gave them commandments, regulations, and law* by the hand of your servant Moses.

¹⁹ He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and his ordinances to Israel. ²⁰ He has not done so for any nation, and they do not know his ordinances. Praise Yah.*

²⁸ And he said to him, "You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live."

² Much in every way. For first, that they were entrusted with the oracles of God.

⁵ For Moses writes about the righteousness that is from the law: "The person who does this* will live by it."**

¹² But the law is not from faith, but "the one who does these things will live by them."*

³ And God blessed the seventh day, and he sanctified* it, because on it he rested from all his work _⌊of creating that there was to do_⌋.*

²⁹ See, because Yahweh has given to you the Sabbath, therefore he is giving to you on the sixth day bread for two days. Stay, _⌊each in his location_⌋;* let no one go from his place on the seventh day."

⁸ "Remember the day of the Sabbath, to consecrate it. ⁹ Six days you will work, and you will do all your work. ¹⁰ But the seventh day is a Sabbath for Yahweh your God; you will not do any work—you or your son or your daughter, your male slave or your female slave, or your animal, or your alien who is in your gates— ¹¹ because in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and on the seventh day he rested. Therefore Yahweh blessed the seventh day and consecrated it.

¹³ "And you, speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'Surely you must keep my Sabbaths, because it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations, in order to know that I am Yahweh, who consecrates you. ¹⁴ And you must keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you; defilers* of it will surely be put to death, because anyone who does work on it—that person will be cut off from among his people. ¹⁵ On six days work can be done, and on the seventh _⌊is a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* _⌊a holy day_⌋* for Yahweh; anyone doing work on the Sabbath day will surely be put to death. ¹⁶ The _⌊Israelites_⌋* will pay attention to the Sabbath in order to fulfill the Sabbath* throughout their generations as a lasting covenant. ¹⁷ It is a sign between me and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* forever, because in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh he ceased* and recovered."*

² On six days work can be done, and on the seventh there will be for you a holy day,* a _⌊Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* for Yahweh; anyone doing work on it will be put to death.

⁸ And you shall keep my statutes, and you shall do them; I am Yahweh who consecrates you.

⁸ And you shall consecrate him, because he is bringing near your God's food; he shall be holy to you, since I, Yahweh, who consecrates you, am holy.

¹⁵ And he shall not profane his offspring among his people, because I am Yahweh, who consecrates him.'"

²³ But he must not enter the curtain, and he must not come near to the altar, because a physical defect is in him, and he must not profane my sanctuary, because I am Yahweh, who consecrates them.'"

³ " 'For six days work is to be done, and on the seventh day shall be _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋,* a holy assembly; you shall not do any work; it shall be a Sabbath for Yahweh in all your dwellings.

²⁴ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* saying, 'In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, _⌊you must have_⌋* a rest period, a remembrance of the trumpet blast, a holy assembly.

³² It is _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋* for you, and you shall deny yourselves on the ninth day of the month in the evening—from evening to evening you must observe your extraordinary* Sabbath."

³⁹ " 'Surely on the fifteenth day of the seventh month, at your gathering the land's produce, you shall hold Yahweh's festival for seven days; on the first day there shall be a rest period and on the eighth day a rest period.

⁴ But* in the seventh year it shall be _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋* for the land—a Sabbath for Yahweh; you* must not sow your field, and you must not prune your vineyard.

¹² 'Observe the _⌊Sabbath day_⌋* to make it holy,* just as Yahweh your God has commanded you. ¹³ Six days you shall work, and you shall do all of your work, ¹⁴ but the seventh day is a Sabbath unto Yahweh your God; you shall not do any work, or your son, or your daughter, or your slave, or your slave woman, or your ox, or your donkey, or any of your domestic animals, or your resident alien who is in your _⌊towns_⌋,* so that your slave and your slave woman may rest as you rest. ¹⁵ And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God brought you out with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm; therefore, Yahweh your God commanded you to keep _⌊the Sabbath_⌋.*

¹⁴ You made known your holy Sabbath to them and gave them commandments, regulations, and law* by the hand of your servant Moses.

²⁰ And treat my Sabbaths as holy, and they will be a sign between me and between you _⌊that you may know_⌋* that I, Yahweh, am your God.'

²⁸ And the nations will know that I, Yahweh, am consecrating Israel when my sanctuary is in the midst of them _⌊forever_⌋." '"*

²⁷ And he said to them, "The Sabbath was established for people, and not people for the Sabbath. ²⁸ So then, the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath."

¹⁷ Sanctify them in the truth—your word is truth. ¹⁸ Just as you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. ¹⁹ And for them I sanctify myself, so that they themselves also may be sanctified in the truth.

¹⁶ Therefore do not let anyone judge you with reference to eating or* drinking or participation in a feast or a new moon or a Sabbath,

²³ Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your spirit and soul and body be kept complete, blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

¹ Jude,* a slave of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to those who are called, loved in God the Father and kept for* Jesus Christ.

²⁷ And on the seventh day some of the people went out to gather, and they did not find any. ²⁸ And Yahweh said to Moses, "How long do you* refuse to keep my commands and my laws?

⁸ They have turned aside quickly from the way that I commanded them; they have made for themselves a cast-image bull calf, and they bowed to it, and they sacrificed to it, and they said, 'These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.'"

¹⁰ And now leave me alone so that _⌊my anger may blaze_⌋* against them, and let me destroy them, and I will make you into a great nation."

¹⁵ and if you reject my statutes and if your inner self* abhors my regulations, to not carry out* all my commands by your breaking my covenant,

⁴³ And the land shall be deserted by them, and it shall enjoy its Sabbaths in its being desolate from them, and they themselves* must pay for their guilt, _⌊simply because_⌋* they rejected my regulations, and their inner self* abhorred my statutes.

¹¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "How long until this people will despise me, and how long until they will not believe in me, and in all the signs that I have done in their* midst? ¹² I will strike them* with disease, and I will dispossess them;* I will make you into a greater and stronger nation than them."*

²² But because all the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the desert yet tested me these ten times and did not listen to my voice,

²⁹ in this desert your corpses will fall, and all your counted ones, according to all your number, from _⌊twenty years old_⌋* and above who grumbled against me.

³¹ Because he despised the word of Yahweh and broke his command, that person will be surely cut off and bear the guilt.'" ³² When the _⌊Israelites_⌋* were in the desert, they found a man who was gathering wood on the day of the Sabbath. ³³ The ones who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses, Aaron, and to all the community. ³⁴ And they put him under watch because it was not made clear what should be done to him. ³⁵ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Surely the man must be put to death by stoning him; all the community must stone him with stones from outside the camp." ³⁶ So the entire community brought him out to a place outside the camp, and _⌊they stoned him to death_⌋* just as Yahweh commanded Moses.

²⁰ And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, ²¹ "Separate yourselves from the midst of this community, that I can destroy them in a moment."

⁴⁵ "Get away from the midst of this community, and I will finish them in an instant,"* but they fell on their faces.

²⁵ These were the clans of Issachar according to the ones counted of them, sixty-four thousand three hundred.

⁸ "And remember at Horeb you provoked Yahweh, and Yahweh became angry enough to destroy you.

¹² And Yahweh said to me, 'Come now, go down quickly from this mountain because your people behave corruptly whom you brought out from Egypt, for they turned quickly from the way that I commanded them to follow; they have made for themselves a cast image.' ¹³ And Yahweh spoke to me, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'I have seen this people, and look! _⌊They are a stubborn people_⌋.* ¹⁴ Leave me alone, and let me destroy them, and let me blot out their name from under heaven, and let me make you into a nation mightier and more numerous than they!' ¹⁵ "And I turned, and I went down the mountain, as the mountain was burning with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. ¹⁶ And I looked,* and indeed you had sinned against Yahweh your God; you had made for yourselves an image of a calf of cast metal; * you had turned quickly from the way that Yahweh had commanded for you. ¹⁷ And I took hold of the two tablets, and I threw them out _⌊of_⌋* my two hands and smashed them before your eyes. ¹⁸ And then I lay prostrate _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, as earlier, forty days* and forty nights;* I did not eat food and I did not drink water because of all your sins that you committed, by doing evil in the eyes of Yahweh and so provoking him. ¹⁹ For _⌊I was in dread_⌋* from being in the presence of the anger and the wrath with which Yahweh was angry with you so as to destroy you, but Yahweh listened to me also _⌊at that time_⌋.* ²⁰ And with Aaron Yahweh was _⌊angry enough_⌋* to destroy him, and I prayed also for Aaron at that time. ²¹ And your sinful thing that you had made, the molten calf, I took and I burned it with fire, and I crushed it, grinding it thoroughly until it was crushed to dust, and I threw its dust into _⌊the stream that flowed down the mountain_⌋.* ²² "And also at Taberah and at Massah and at Kibroth Hattaavah you provoked Yahweh to anger. ²³ And when Yahweh sent you out from Kadesh Barnea, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Go up and take possession of the land that I have given you,' you rebelled against the command of Yahweh your God, and you did not believe him, and you did not listen to his voice. ²⁴ You have been rebellious toward Yahweh _⌊from the day I have known you_⌋.*

²⁷ For I know your rebellion and your stiff neck even now while I am still alive with you _⌊today_⌋,* rebelling against Yahweh, and _⌊how much more_⌋* after my death.

⁸ Like all the deeds they have done from the day I brought them up from Egypt until this day, they have forsaken me and have served other gods—so they are doing to you also.

⁹ Why have you despised the word of Yahweh by doing evil in his eyes?* Uriah the Hittite you have struck down with the sword, and his wife you have taken to yourself as wife! You have killed him with the sword of the _⌊Ammonites_⌋!*

¹⁶ "But they and our ancestors* acted arrogantly and stiffened their neck and did not listen to your commandments. ¹⁷ They refused to listen and did not remember your wonders that you did among them. They stiffened their neck and in their rebellion _⌊determined_⌋* to return to their slavery. But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and compassionate, _⌊slow to anger_⌋,* abundant in loyal love, so you did not abandon them. ¹⁸ Even when they made for themselves a molten idol of a calf and said, 'This is your God who brought you out from Egypt,' and committed great blasphemies.

⁴⁰ How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness and vexed him in the wasteland! ⁴¹ So they again tested God and distressed* the Holy One of Israel.

⁸ "Do not harden your heart as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness, ⁹ when your ancestors* tried me. They put me to the test, even though they had seen my work. ¹⁰ For forty years I loathed that generation, and said, 'They are a people whose heart wanders. And my ways they do not know.' ¹¹ Therefore I swore in my anger, 'They shall surely not enter into my rest.'"

¹³ They quickly forgot his works; they did not wait for his counsel. ¹⁴ And they _⌊craved intensely_⌋* in the wilderness, and tested God in the desert. ¹⁵ So he gave to them their request, but he sent leanness into their souls.* ¹⁶ And they were jealous of Moses in the camp, and of Aaron, the holy one of Yahweh. ¹⁷ The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and it covered over the gang of Abiram. ¹⁸ Also fire burned in their assembly; the flame devoured the wicked. ¹⁹ They made a calf at Horeb and bowed down to a cast image. ²⁰ And so they exchanged their glory for an image of an ox that eats grass. ²¹ They forgot God their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, ²² wonders in the land of Ham, awesome deeds by _⌊the Red Sea_⌋.* ²³ So he said he would exterminate them, had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to reverse his wrath from destroying them. ²⁴ Then they refused the desirable land; they did not believe his word, ²⁵ but grumbled in their tents. They did not obey the voice of Yahweh. ²⁶ So _⌊he made an oath_⌋* against them, to make them drop in the wilderness, ²⁷ and to disperse* their _⌊descendants_⌋* among the nations and to scatter them among the lands. ²⁸ They also attached themselves to Baal of Peor, and they ate sacrifices offered to the dead.* ²⁹ Thus they provoked to anger by their deeds, and a plague broke out among them. ³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up and intervened, and so the plague was stopped, ³¹ and it was reckoned to him as righteousness _⌊throughout all generations_⌋.* ³² They also angered God at the waters of Meribah, and it went badly for Moses on account of them, ³³ because they rebelled against his Spirit,* and he spoke thoughtlessly with his lips.

²⁵ You have ignored all my counsel, and my reproof you are not willing to accept.

¹³ He who despises a word will bring destruction on himself, but he who respects a commandment will be rewarded.

⁶ And the _⌊foreigners_⌋* who join themselves to Yahweh to serve him and to love the name of Yahweh, to become his servants, every one who keeps the Sabbath, _⌊so as not to profane_⌋* it, and those who keep hold of my covenant,

¹⁶ because they despised my judgments, and _⌊they did not walk in my statutes_⌋,* and my Sabbaths they profaned, for their heart was going after their idols.

²⁴ because they did not do my regulations, and my statutes they despised, and my Sabbaths they profaned, and their eyes were after the idols of their ancestors.*

⁴ Thus says Yahweh: "For three transgressions of Judah and for four I will not revoke the punishment,* because they have rejected the law of Yahweh and have not kept his rules, and their lies have led them astray, _⌊after which their ancestors walked_⌋!*

⁸ Therefore the one who rejects this is not rejecting man, but God, who also gives his Holy Spirit to you.

²⁸ Anyone who rejected the law of Moses dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. ²⁹ How much worse punishment do you think the person will be considered worthy of who treats with disdain the Son of God and who considers ordinary the blood of the covenant by which he was made holy and who insults the Spirit of grace?

⁹ "But* I acted for the sake of my name _⌊to keep it from being profaned_⌋* before the eyes of the nations _⌊among whom they lived_⌋,* where I made known to them before their eyes, to bring them out from the land of Egypt.

²² "Therefore thus say to the house of Israel, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "_⌊Not for your sake_⌋ * am I about to act, house of Israel, _⌊but_⌋* _⌊for my holy name_⌋,* which you defiled among the nations _⌊to which you went_⌋.* ²³ And I will consecrate my great name, which was profaned among the nations and which you have profaned in the midst of them, and the nations will know that I am Yahweh!" ' a declaration of the Lord Yahweh, _⌊when I show myself holy_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* their eyes.

⁶ to the praise of the glory of his grace that he bestowed on us in the beloved,

¹² that we who hoped beforehand in Christ should be for the praise of his glory,

²³ they will not see the land that I swore by oath to their ancestors,* and all those who despised me will not see it. ²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because another spirit was with him, he remained true after me, and I will bring him into the land that _⌊he entered_⌋,* and his offspring will take possession of it. ²⁵ And the Amalekites and the Canaanites live in the valleys; tomorrow turn and set out for the desert by way of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋."* ²⁶ And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, ²⁷ "How long will I bear this evil community who are grumbling against me? I have heard the grumbling of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* which _⌊they are making_⌋* against me. ²⁸ Say to them, 'Surely as I live,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'just as you spoke _⌊in my hearing_⌋,* so I will do to you; ²⁹ in this desert your corpses will fall, and all your counted ones, according to all your number, from _⌊twenty years old_⌋* and above who grumbled against me. ³⁰ You yourselves will not come into the land that _⌊I swore by oath_⌋* to make you to dwell in it, but Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

⁶⁴ And among these there was not a man of those counted by Moses and Aaron the priest, who counted the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in the desert of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For Yahweh said to them, "They will surely die in the desert." And not a man was left over from them, except Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun.

³⁴ "Then Yahweh heard the sound of your words, and he was angry, and he swore, _⌊saying_⌋,* ³⁵ 'No one of these men* of this evil generation will see the good land that I swore to give to your ancestors,*

¹¹ Therefore I swore in my anger, 'They shall surely not enter into my rest.'"

²⁶ So _⌊he made an oath_⌋* against them, to make them drop in the wilderness,

¹¹ As I swore in my anger, '_⌊They will never enter_⌋* into my rest.'"*

¹⁸ And to whom did he swear they would not enter into his rest, except those who were disobedient?

³ For we who have believed enter into rest,* just as he has said,
"As I swore in my anger, '_⌊They will never enter_⌋* into my rest.'"*
And yet these works have been accomplished from the foundation of the world.

¹ And the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, and the people gathered opposite Aaron, and they said to him, "Come,* make for us gods who will go before us, because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him." ² And Aaron said to them, "Take off the rings of gold that are on the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring it to me." ³ And all the people took off the rings of gold that were on their ears and brought it to Aaron. ⁴ And he took from their hand, and he shaped it with a tool, and he made it a cast-image bull calf, and they said, "These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt." ⁵ And Aaron saw, and he built an altar before it, and Aaron called, and he said, "A feast for Yahweh tomorrow." ⁶ And they started early the next day, and they offered burnt offerings, and they presented fellowship offerings, and the people sat to eat and drink, and they rose up to revel. ⁷ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go, go down because your people behave corruptly, whom you brought up from the land of Egypt. ⁸ They have turned aside quickly from the way that I commanded them; they have made for themselves a cast-image bull calf, and they bowed to it, and they sacrificed to it, and they said, 'These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.'"

³⁹ You will have a tassel _⌊for you to look at_⌋* and remember all the commands of Yahweh and do them, and not follow _⌊after the unfaithfulness of your own heart and eyes_⌋,*

² And they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and worshiped their gods.

¹³ "But* in the desert the house of Israel rebelled against me; _⌊they did not walk in my statutes_⌋,* and they rejected my regulations, which, if a person does them, he will live by them, and they greatly profaned my Sabbaths, and I decided to pour out my rage on them in the desert to destroy them, ¹⁴ and I acted for the sake of my name, that it not be profaned before the eyes of the nations _⌊before whom I brought them out_⌋.*

²⁵ Did you bring to me sacrifices and offerings those forty years in the desert, O house of Israel? ²⁶ And you will take up Sikkuth, your king, and Kaiwan, your images, the star of your gods which you made for yourselves.

³⁹ to whom our fathers were not willing to become obedient, but rejected him* and turned back in their hearts to Egypt, ⁴⁰ saying to Aaron, 'Make us gods who will go on before us! For this Moses, who led us out from the land of Egypt—we do not know what has happened to him!'* ⁴¹ And they manufactured a calf in those days, and offered up a sacrifice to the idol, and began rejoicing* in the works of their hands. ⁴² But God turned away and gave them over to worship the host of heaven, just as it is written in the book of the prophets:
'You did not bring offerings and sacrifices to me for forty years in the wilderness, did you,* house of Israel? ⁴³ And you took along the tabernacle* of Moloch and the star of the god* Rephan, the images that you made, to worship them, and I will deport you beyond Babylon!'*

¹⁰ Look, this day your eyes have seen that Yahweh gave you today into my hand in the cave, and some said to kill you. But _⌊I took pity_⌋* on you and said, 'I will not stretch out my hand against my lord, because he is Yahweh's anointed one.'

¹⁹ But you in your many mercies did not abandon them in the desert. The column of cloud that was over them in the day did not cease to leave them on the way, and the column of fire by night that gave light to them on the way that they went.

³⁷ For their heart was not steadfast with him, nor were they faithful to his covenant. ³⁸ But he was compassionate; he pardoned* their guilt and did not destroy them. And many times he turned back his anger and did not stir up all his wrath,

²⁷ For thus says Yahweh, "All of the land will be a desolation, yet I will not make a complete desolation.

¹⁸ "But even in those days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "I will not make you a complete destruction.

² "And you, son of man,* thus says the Lord Yahweh to the land of Israel: 'The end comes, the end on the four corners of the land.

¹⁸ And so I will act in rage, and my eye will not take pity, and I will not have compassion, and they will cry in my ear with a loud voice, and I will not hear them."

¹⁰ And I, my eye will not take pity, and I will not have compassion; their way I will bring on their head."

¹³ And it happened that _⌊as I was prophesying_⌋,* Pelatiahu the son of Benaiahu died! And I fell on my face, and I cried with a loud voice, and I said, "Ah, Lord Yahweh, you are making a complete destruction of the remnant of Israel!"

⁸ But with a rushing torrent he will bring Nineveh to an end; he will chase his enemies into darkness. ⁹ What* do you plot against Yahweh? _⌊He will completely destroy it_⌋;* trouble will not rise up a second time!

³² But for you, all your corpses will fall in this desert. ³³ And your children will be shepherds in the desert forty years,* and you will bear your unfaithfulness until _⌊all your corpses have fallen_⌋* in the desert.

¹³ And _⌊Yahweh became angry_⌋,* and he made them wander in the desert forty years until the entire generation who did evil in the _⌊sight of Yahweh_⌋* _⌊had died_⌋.* ¹⁴ Behold, you stand in the place of your fathers, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more _⌊Yahweh's fierce anger_⌋* against Israel. ¹⁵ If you turn from following him, he will again abandon them* in the wilderness, and you would have destroyed all these people."

³ Your eyes have seen* what Yahweh did with* the case of Baal Peor, for _⌊each_⌋* man that followed after Baal Peor Yahweh your God destroyed from your midst. ⁴ But you, the ones holding fast to Yahweh your God, are all alive _⌊today_⌋.* ⁵ See, I now teach* you rules and regulations just as Yahweh my God has commanded me, to observe them just so in the midst of the land where you are going, to take possession of it. ⁶ And _⌊you must observe them diligently_⌋,* for that is your wisdom and your insight before the eyes of the people, who will hear all of these rules, and they will say, 'Surely this great nation is a wise and discerning people.'

⁶ so that the next generation might know— children yet to be born— that they might rise up and tell their children, ⁷ that they might set their confidence in God, and not forget the deeds of God, but keep his commandments, ⁸ and not be like their ancestors,* a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not make ready its heart, whose spirit was not faithful to God.

⁷ And I brought you to the land of the orchard, to eat its fruit, and its good things.* But you entered and defiled my land, and my inheritance you made a detestable thing.*

⁹ And it was because of the frivolity of her fornication that she defiled the land and committed adultery with the stone and with the tree.

² "Yahweh _⌊was very angry with your ancestors_⌋.* ³ You must say to them: 'Thus says Yahweh of hosts: "Return to me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts, "and I will return to you," says Yahweh of hosts. ⁴ "Do not be like your ancestors,* to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying, 'Thus says Yahweh of hosts: "Return from your evil ways and your evil deeds!" ' But they did not hear* and they did not pay attention* to me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

⁴⁷ Woe to you, because you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them! ⁴⁸ As a result you are witnesses, and you approve of the deeds of your fathers, because they killed them and you build their tombs!*

⁵¹ "You stiff-necked people and uncircumcised in hearts and in your* ears! You constantly resist the Holy Spirit! As your fathers did, so also do you!

¹⁸ because you* know that you were redeemed from your futile way of life inherited from your ancestors not with perishable things like silver or gold,

¹ "Now, Israel, listen to the rules and to the regulations that I am teaching you to do, in order that you may live and you may go in and you may take possession of the land that Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* is giving to you.

¹ And then Moses summoned all of Israel and said to them, "Hear, Israel, the rules and the regulations that I am speaking in your ears _⌊today_⌋,* and you shall learn them, and _⌊you must observe them diligently_⌋.*

⁶ 'I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery. ⁷ There shall not be for you other gods _⌊besides me_⌋.*

³² "So you must be careful to do just as Yahweh your God commanded you; you shall not turn to the right or to the left.

⁴ For their* sons and daughters will cause your son* to turn away _⌊from following me_⌋,* and so they will serve other gods, and _⌊the anger of Yahweh would be kindled_⌋* against you, and he would quickly destroy you. ⁵ But this is what you must do to them: you shall break down their altars, and their stone pillars you shall smash, and their Asherah poles you shall hew down, and you shall burn their idols with fire. ⁶ For you are a holy people for Yahweh your God; Yahweh your God has chosen you to be for him a people, a treasured possession from among all the peoples that are on the face* of the earth.

¹ "All of the commandments* that I am commanding you today you must diligently observe, so that you may live and multiply, and you may go and take possession of the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors.*

¹ "At that time Yahweh said to me, 'Carve for yourself two tablets of stone just as the former ones, and come up the mountain to me, and you shall make for yourself an ark of wood. ² And I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets, which you smashed, and you must put them in the ark.' ³ And so I made an ark _⌊of acacia wood_⌋,* and I carved two tablets of stone like the former ones, and I went up the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. ⁴ And he wrote upon the tablets _⌊according to the first writing_⌋,* the ten words that Yahweh spoke to you on the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly, and Yahweh gave them to me. ⁵ And I turned, and I came down from the mountain, and I put the tablets in the ark that I had made, and they are there, just as Yahweh commanded me. ⁶ "And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* journeyed from the wells of Bene-Yaqan to Moserah; there Aaron died and was buried, and Eleazar, his son, served as a priest in place of him. ⁷ From there they journeyed to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land flowing with streams of water. ⁸ At that time Yahweh set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to stand _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, to serve him and to bless the people in his name until this day. ⁹ Therefore _⌊there was not_⌋* for Levi an allotment or an inheritance along with his brothers; rather Yahweh is his inheritance just as Yahweh your God _⌊promised_⌋* to him. ¹⁰ And I stayed on the mountain just as during the former forty days* and forty nights,* and Yahweh listened to me also on that occasion;* Yahweh was not willing to destroy you. ¹¹ And Yahweh said to me, '_⌊Come, continue_⌋* your journey _⌊before the people_⌋, * so that you may go and take possession of the land that I swore to their ancestors* to give to them.' ¹² And now, Israel, what is Yahweh your God asking* from you, except* to revere Yahweh your God, to go* in all his ways and to love him and to serve Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul,*

¹ "And you shall love Yahweh your God, and you shall keep his obligations and his statutes and his regulations and his commandments _⌊always_⌋.*

¹ "These are the rules and the regulations _⌊that you must diligently observe_⌋* in the land that Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* has given to you to take possession of it, during all the days that you are living on the land.

⁷ The law of Yahweh is perfect, reviving life.* The testimony of Yahweh is firm, making wise the simple. ⁸ The precepts of Yahweh are right, making the heart rejoice. The command of Yahweh is pure, enlightening the eyes. ⁹ The fear of Yahweh is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of Yahweh are true; they are righteous altogether, ¹⁰ more desirable than gold, even much fine gold; and sweeter than honey, even honey in the comb. ¹¹ Moreover, your servant is warned* by them; in keeping them is great reward.

⁹ There shall be no strange god among you, and you shall not bow down to a foreign god. ¹⁰ I am Yahweh your God, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. Open wide your mouth and I will fill it.

⁴⁵ so that they might observe his statutes, and keep his laws. Praise Yah.*

²² Return, O apostate* children, I will heal your backsliding. 'Look, we come to you, for you are Yahweh our God. ²³ Surely, an illusion comes from the hills, the turmoil on the mountains. Surely, in Yahweh our God is the salvation of Israel.

²⁰ so that they may walk in my statutes, and they will keep my regulations, and they will do them, and they will be to me a people, and I myself will be to them as God.

²⁷ And I will give* my spirit into your inner parts, and I will make it so that you will go* in my rules, and my regulations you will remember, and you will do them.

²⁴ " '"And my servant David will be king over them, and one shepherd will be for all of them, and in my regulations they will go, and my statutes they will observe, and they will do them.

¹¹ For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all people, ¹² training us in order that, denying impiety and worldly desires, we may live self-controlled and righteously and godly in the present age, ¹³ looking forward to the blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, ¹⁴ who gave himself for us, in order that he might redeem us from all lawlessness and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good deeds.

¹¹ because in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and on the seventh day he rested. Therefore Yahweh blessed the seventh day and consecrated it.

¹⁵ In those days I saw in Judah people treading the wine press on the Sabbath, bringing in heaps of grain and loading them on donkeys along with wine, grapes and figs, and every kind of burden and bringing it all to Jerusalem on the day of the Sabbath. And I warned them at that time against selling food. ¹⁶ Tyrian men who lived in Jerusalem brought fish and every kind of merchandise and sold it on the Sabbath to the descendants* of Judah and in Jerusalem. ¹⁷ So I quarreled with the nobles of Judah and said to them, "What is this evil thing that you are doing, profaning the day of the Sabbath? ¹⁸ Did not your ancestors* do this also, and our God brought on us all of this disaster and on this city too? Now you are adding fierce wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath!" ¹⁹ So when it became dark at the gates of Jerusalem before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors be shut and said that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. And I appointed some of my young men over the gates to prevent any _⌊goods_⌋* being brought in on the day of the Sabbath. ²⁰ So the merchants and the sellers of merchandise spent the night outside of Jerusalem once or twice. ²¹ But I warned them and said to them, "Why are you spending the night opposite the wall? If you do it again, I will lay hands against you." From that time on they did not come on the Sabbath. ²² And then I told two Levites that they must purify themselves and come to guard the gates in order to consecrate the day of the Sabbath. Remember this also, my God, and take pity on me according to the greatness of your loyal love.

¹³ If you hold your foot back from the Sabbath, from doing your affairs on _⌊my holy day_⌋,* if* you call the Sabbath a pleasure, the holy day of Yahweh honorable, if* you honor him _⌊more than_⌋* doing your ways, than finding your affairs* and speaking a word,

²² And you must not carry a burden from your houses on the day of the Sabbath, and you must not do any work. But you must declare holy the day of Sabbath, just as I commanded your ancestors.*

²⁴ "And it will happen, if you carefully listen to me," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "to bring no burden through the gates of this city on the day of the Sabbath, but to declare holy the day of Sabbath, not to do on it any work,

²⁷ But if you do not listen to me, to declare holy the day of the Sabbath, and to not carry a burden and enter through the gates of Jerusalem on the day of the Sabbath, then I will kindle a fire in its gates, and it will devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it will not be quenched." '"

¹² And also my Sabbaths I gave to them to be a sign between me and between them _⌊so they would know_⌋* that I, Yahweh, am the one sanctifying them.

²⁴ And at a legal dispute they themselves shall stand to judge; employing* my judgments they shall judge it, and with respect to my laws and my statutes. All my festivals they shall keep and my Sabbaths they shall consecrate.

⁵ The people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us from Egypt to die in the desert? There is no food and no water, and our hearts detest this miserable food."

¹ When Israel dwelled in Shittim, the people began to prostitute* themselves with the daughters of Moab. ² And they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and worshiped their gods. ³ So Israel was joined together to Baal Peor, and _⌊Yahweh became angry_⌋* with Israel. ⁴ Yahweh said to Moses, "Take all _⌊the leaders_⌋* of the people and kill them before the sun, so the fierce anger of Yahweh will turn from Israel." ⁵ So Moses said to the judges of Israel, "Each of you kill his men who are joined together with Baal Peor." ⁶ And behold, a man from the _⌊Israelites_⌋* came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman before the eyes of Moses and before the eyes of all of the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and they were weeping at the doorway of the tent of assembly. ⁷ When Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest saw, he got up from the midst of the community and took a spear in his hand. ⁸ He went after the man of Israel into the woman's section of the tent, and he drove the two of them, the man of Israel and the woman, into her belly. And the plague among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* stopped.

²¹ "Go! Seek Yahweh on my behalf and on behalf of those remaining in Israel and Judah concerning the words of the scroll that was found, for the anger of Yahweh that was poured out on us is great, because our ancestors* have not kept the word of Yahweh, to do all that is written in this scroll."

²⁵ because they have abandoned me and burned incense to other gods so as to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands. And my wrath will be poured out on this place and it will not be quenched.'

¹¹ Yahweh has completed his anger, he has poured out _⌊his fierce anger_⌋;* he has kindled a fire in Zion, it consumed her* foundations.

¹⁵ And I will fully vent my rage against the wall and against those covering it with whitewash, and I will say to you, "_⌊The wall is no more_⌋,* and _⌊the people covering it are no more_⌋,*

¹¹ and I gave my statutes to them, and my regulations I made known to them, which, if a person does them, then he will live by them.

³¹ And I will pour out my anger on you; I will blow on you with the fire of my wrath, and I will give you into the hand of brutal men, skilled craftsmen of destruction.

³⁶ "Then the king will do _⌊as he pleases_⌋,* and he will exalt himself and will consider himself above any god, and he will speak horrendous things _⌊against_⌋* the God of gods, yet he will succeed until the period of anger is finished, for what is determined will be done.

¹⁸ And for a period of time of about forty years, he put up with them in the wilderness.

¹ And I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, "Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God."

²¹ withdraw your* hand from me, and let not your* dread terrify me.

¹¹ Also, for the sake of your name, O Yahweh, forgive my sin, because it is great.

³⁸ But he was compassionate; he pardoned* their guilt and did not destroy them. And many times he turned back his anger and did not stir up all his wrath,

⁹ Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; and deliver us and forgive* our sins for the sake of your name. ¹⁰ Why should the nations say, "Where is their God?" Let it* be known among the nations before our eyes, by the avenging of the blood of your servants that was poured out.

¹ Not to us, O Yahweh, not to us, but to your name give glory, because of your loyal love, because of your faithfulness.

⁹ For the sake of my name I _⌊refrain from_⌋* my anger, and for my praise I restrain it for you so as not to cut you off. ¹⁰ Look! I have refined you, but* not like* silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of misery. ¹¹ For my own sake, for my own sake I do it; for why should it* be defiled? And I will not give my glory to another."

⁷ Although our iniquities testify against us, O Yahweh, act for the sake of your name. Yes, our apostasies are many; we have sinned against you.

²¹ You must not spurn us* for the sake of your name, you must not dishonor _⌊your glorious throne_⌋.* Remember us!* You must not break your covenant with us.

⁸ Yahweh has planned to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion. He measured with a line; he has not restrained his hand from destroying; he caused rampart and wall to mourn; together they have languished away.

¹⁷ But my eye took pity on them by not destroying them, and _⌊I did not completely destroy them_⌋* in the desert.

¹⁷ "And now, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his pleas for mercy. Shine* your face upon your desolate sanctuary _⌊for your sake, O Lord_⌋.*

¹⁹ Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, pay heed and act! You must not delay _⌊for your sake_⌋,* my God; because _⌊your city and your people are called by your name_⌋."*

³³ And I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw a sword behind you; and your land shall be a desolation, and your cities shall be a ruin.

⁶⁴ And Yahweh shall scatter you among all the nations from one end of the earth up to the other end of the earth, and there you shall serve other gods that you have not known nor* your ancestors,* gods of wood and stone. ⁶⁵ And among these nations you shall not find rest, and there shall not be a resting place for the sole of your foot, and Yahweh shall give you there an anxious heart and a weakening of eyes* and a languishing of your inner self.* ⁶⁶ And _⌊your life shall hang in doubt before you_⌋,* and you shall be startled* night and day, and you shall not be confident of your life. ⁶⁷ In the morning you shall say, '_⌊If only it was evening_⌋!'* and in the evening you shall say '_⌊If only it was morning_⌋!'* because of the dread of your heart that you shall feel, and because of the sight of your eyes that you shall see. ⁶⁸ And Yahweh shall bring you back to Egypt in ships by the route that I _⌊promised_⌋* to you that '_⌊You shall not see it again_⌋!'* And you shall sell yourself there to your enemies as slaves and as female slaves, but there will not be a buyer."

²⁷ and to disperse* their _⌊descendants_⌋* among the nations and to scatter them among the lands.

⁴ And I will make them a terror to all of the kingdoms of the earth because of Manasseh, the son of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, because of what he did in Jerusalem.

⁵ And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven ⁶ and swore by the one who lives _⌊forever and ever_⌋*, who created heaven and the things in it, and the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things in it, "There will be no more delay!

¹⁹ _⌊And do this so that you do not lift_⌋* your eyes toward heaven and _⌊observe_⌋* the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of the heaven, and be led astray and bow down to them and serve them, things that Yahweh your God has allotted to all of the peoples under all of the heaven.

²⁶ if I looked at the sun when it shone or* at the moon moving in splendor, ²⁷ and _⌊I was secretly enticed_⌋,* and _⌊my hand threw them a kiss_⌋,*

¹² He oppresses the needy and the poor, and _⌊he commits robbery_⌋,* and he does not return a pledge for a loan, and he lifts his eyes to the idols so he does a detestable thing.

²⁷ And Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, and you will be left _⌊few in number_⌋* among the nations _⌊to where Yahweh will lead you_⌋.* ²⁸ And you will there serve gods _⌊made by human hands_⌋,* of wood and stone, gods that cannot see and cannot hear and cannot eat and cannot smell.

³⁶ Yahweh will bring you and your king whom you set up over you to a nation that you or your ancestors* have not known, and there you will serve other gods of wood and stone.

¹² So I let them* go in the stubbornness of their heart; they walked in their counsels.

⁴ Indeed, I myself I will choose their ill treatment, and I will bring them objects of their dread, because I called, and _⌊no one answered_⌋;* I spoke and they did not listen, but* they did the evil in my eyes, and they chose that in which I do not delight."

⁹ And the prophet, if he is deceived and he speaks a word, I Yahweh, I have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand against him, and I will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. ¹⁰ And they will bear their guilt, like* the guilt of the inquirer so* the guilt of the prophet will be, ¹¹ so that the house of Israel will not go astray again _⌊from me_⌋,* and they will not make themselves unclean again with all of their transgressions, and they will be for me a people, and I will be for them as God," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

²⁶ And I defiled them through their gifts in sacrificing all of the first offspring of the womb, in order that* I will cause them to be stunned, so that they will know that I am Yahweh.

³⁹ And you, house of Israel, thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Let each one go serve his idols now and after, if you are not listening to me, but _⌊my holy name_⌋* you will not profane any longer with your gifts and with your idols.

²¹ For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their reasoning, and their senseless hearts were darkened. ²² Claiming to be wise, they became fools, ²³ and exchanged the glory of the immortal God with the likeness of an image of mortal human beings and birds and quadrupeds and reptiles. ²⁴ Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to immorality, that their bodies would be dishonored among themselves, ²⁵ who exchanged the truth of God with a lie, and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed for eternity. Amen. ²⁶ Because of this, God gave them over to degrading passions, for their females exchanged the natural relations for those contrary to nature, ²⁷ and likewise also the males, abandoning the natural relations with the female, were inflamed in their desire toward one another, males with males committing the shameless deed, and receiving in themselves the penalty that was necessary for their error. ²⁸ And just as they did not see fit _⌊to recognize God_⌋*, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do the things that are not proper,

⁹ whose coming is in accordance with the working of Satan, with all power and signs and lying wonders, ¹⁰ and with every unrighteous deception against those who are perishing, in place of which they did not accept the love of the truth, so that they would be saved. ¹¹ And because of this, God sends them _⌊a powerful delusion_⌋* so that they will believe the lie,

¹² you will hand over every first offspring of a womb to Yahweh, and every first offspring dropped by a domestic animal that will belong to you, the males will be for Yahweh.

²¹ " 'And you shall not give _⌊any of_⌋* your offspring* in order to sacrifice them to Molech, nor* shall you profane the name of your God; I am Yahweh.

¹⁷ They made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire, they practiced divination and read omens, and they sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of Yahweh to provoke him.

⁶ He made his son pass through the fire, practiced soothsaying and divination, and dealt with mediums and spiritists. He increased the doing of evil in the eyes of Yahweh to provoke him.

³ And he himself burned incense in the valley of Ben-Hinnom and burned his sons in the fire, according to the detestable practices of the nations whom Yahweh drove out before the Israelites.

⁶ And he himself burned his sons in the fire in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom. And he practiced sorcery and divination, and he engaged in witchcraft and dealt with mediums and spiritists. And he did much evil in the eyes of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁷ Why do you make us wander, Yahweh? You harden our heart from your ways _⌊so that we do not fear_⌋* you. Turn back for the sake of your servants, the tribes of your inheritance.

⁹ And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons, and the flesh of their daughters, and each one will eat the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the distress which their enemies and those who seek their life inflict on them." '

³⁵ And they built the high places of Baal that are in the Valley of Ben Hinnom to present as offerings their sons and their daughters to Molech, which I had not commanded them, and it had not come to my _⌊mind_⌋* to do this detestable thing in order to cause Judah to sin."

⁷ and the slain one will fall in the midst of you, and then you will know that I am Yahweh.

²⁰ 'And you took your sons and your daughters whom you had borne for me, and you sacrificed them to them to be eaten,* _⌊as if your whorings were not enough_⌋.* ²¹ And you slaughtered my children, and you gave them _⌊to be sacrificed to them_⌋.*

²³ (just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb will be called holy to the Lord")*

⁷ What then? What Israel was searching for, this it did not obtain. But the elect obtained it, and the rest were hardened, ⁸ just as it is written,
"God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that do not see and ears that do not hear, until this very day."* ⁹ And David says,
"Let their table become a snare and a trap, and a cause for stumbling and a retribution to them; ¹⁰ let their eyes be darkened so that they do not see, and cause their backs to bend _⌊continually_⌋*."*

⁷ And you must speak my words to them whether they listen or whether they fail to listen, for they are rebellious.

⁴ And he said to me, "Son of man,* come! Go to the house of Israel, and you must speak to them with my words.

¹¹ And come, go to the exiles,* to the children* of your people, and you must speak to them, and say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh!' whether they listen or whether they fail to listen."

²⁷ And when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "The one hearing him, let him hear, and the one failing to hear, let him fail," ' for they _⌊are a rebellious house_⌋.*

²⁴ And _⌊when the righteous turns_⌋* from his righteousness, so that* he does injustice, and does all of the detestable things that the wicked do, then* will he live because of all of his righteousness* that he did? Those things will not be remembered because of his infidelity that he displayed, and because of his _⌊sin that he committed_⌋.* Through* them he shall die.

²⁴ For just as it is written, "The name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you."*

⁵ And a mouth was given to him speaking great things and blasphemies, and authority to act was given to him for forty-two months.

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river, ¹⁹ the land of the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites, ²⁰ the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, ²¹ the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father. ⁴ And I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and I will give to your descendants all these lands. And all nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring,

³ and you have seen all that Yahweh your God has done to all these nations _⌊for your sake_⌋,* for Yahweh your God is fighting for you. ⁴ Look! I have allotted to you these remaining nations as an inheritance for your tribes, from the Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, to the Great Sea* _⌊in the west_⌋.*

¹⁴ Look! _⌊I am about to die_⌋,* and you know in all your hearts* and souls* that not one thing _⌊failed_⌋* from all the good things that Yahweh your God promised concerning you; everything _⌊has been fulfilled_⌋;* _⌊not one thing failed_⌋.*

²² And you gave them kingdoms and nations and allotted them a portion. They took into possession the land of Sihon king of Heshbon and the land of Og king of Bashan. ²³ You made their children* numerous like the stars of the heavens and brought them to the land that you told their ancestors* to enter in order to take possession. ²⁴ So the children* went in and took possession of the land. You subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites; you gave them into their hand, and their kings and the nations of the land to do with them according to their pleasure. ²⁵ And they captured fortified cities and a fertile land and took possession of houses filled with every good thing: hewn cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, and many fruit trees. They ate and became full, and they became fat and took delight in your great goodness. ²⁶ "But they rebelled and were rebellious against you and cast your law* behind their back and killed your prophets, who had warned them to turn back to you, and they did great blasphemies.

⁵⁵ And he drove out nations before them and allocated them for an inheritance by boundary line, and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents. ⁵⁶ But they tested and rebelled against God Most High and did not keep his statutes. ⁵⁷ And they turned and were treacherous like their ancestors.* They twisted like a crooked* bow. ⁵⁸ For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and made him jealous with their images.

⁸ He remembers his covenant forever, the word that he commanded for a thousand generations, ⁹ that he made with Abraham, and by his oath swore to Isaac. ¹⁰ He then confirmed it to Jacob as a statute, to Israel as an everlasting covenant, ¹¹ saying, "To you I will give the land of Canaan as the allotment that is your* inheritance."

⁵ who burn with lust among the oaks, under every leafy tree, who slaughter children in the valleys, under the clefts of the rocks? ⁶ Your portion is among the smooth stones of the valley; they, they are your lot; indeed, to them you have poured out a drink offering, you have brought a food offering.
Shall I relent concerning these things? ⁷ You have set your bed upon a high and lofty mountain; indeed, you went up there to slaughter sacrifice.

⁶ Then Yahweh said to me in the days of Josiah, the king, "Have you seen what apostate* Israel has done? She has gone on every high hill and under every leafy tree and she has prostituted herself there.

¹³ And you will know that I am Yahweh _⌊when their slain ones are in the midst of their idols_⌋* around their altars at every high hill, on the tops of all the mountains and under every green tree and under every leafy oak—the place at which they gave a pleasing scent for all of their idols.

¹⁹ And my bread that I gave to you, finely milled flour and oil and honey with which I fed you, then you set it _⌊before them_⌋* as a _⌊pleasing odor_⌋,* and so it was,' _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

⁶ On that day _⌊I swore_⌋* to them to bring them out from the land of Egypt to the land that I had searched out for them, flowing with milk and honey—it is the most beautiful of all of the lands.

²⁴ 'And then you built for yourself a mound, and you made for yourself a high place in every public square. ²⁵ At the head of every street you built your high place and you disgraced your beauty and you spread your feet for every passerby, and you increased your whoring.

³¹ _⌊when you built_⌋* your mound at the head of every street and your high place you made on every street, yet* you were* not like a prostitute, as you were scorning your harlot's wages.

¹⁴ Behold, you stand in the place of your fathers, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more _⌊Yahweh's fierce anger_⌋* against Israel.

¹⁹ But when the leader* died they relapsed and acted corruptly, more than their ancestors,* following other gods, serving them,* and bowing down to them. They would not give up their deeds or their stubborn ways.

²⁶ Yet they have not listened to me and they have not inclined their ear, but they have hardened their neck, they did more evil than their ancestors.*

¹⁴ but they went after the stubbornness of their heart, and after the Baals, which their ancestors* taught them."

¹² And _⌊you have behaved badly_⌋* more than your ancestors,* and look, you are going each one after the stubbornness of his evil heart, without listening to me.

³² And you—fill up the measure of your fathers!

¹⁰ There shall not be found among you one who makes his son or his daughter go through the fire, or _⌊one who practices divination_⌋,* or an interpreter of signs,* or an augur,* or sorcerer, ¹¹ or one who casts magic spells, or one who consults a spirit of the dead,* or spiritist, or one who inquires of the dead.* ¹² For everyone doing these things is detestable to Yahweh, and because of these detestable things Yahweh your God is driving them out from _⌊before you_⌋.*

⁵ When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid and his heart trembled greatly. ⁶ And Saul inquired of Yahweh, but Yahweh did not answer him, not by dreams or by the Urim* or by the prophets.

¹³ Then Elisha said to the king of Israel, "_⌊What do we have in common_⌋?* Go to the prophets of your father and to the prophets of your mother." Then the king of Israel said to him, "No, for Yahweh has called for these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab." ¹⁴ Then Elisha said, "_⌊As Yahweh of hosts lives_⌋,* before whom I stand, surely if I was not _⌊regarding the face_⌋* of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would have not looked at you nor even glanced at you.

⁸ for what is the hope of the godless when he cuts them off, when God takes away his life?

¹⁰ Or, in Shaddai will he find delight? Will he call upon God at all times?

¹⁸ If I had considered evil in my heart, the Lord would not have listened.

³⁷ They even sacrificed their sons and daughters to the demons, ³⁸ and they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and so the land was defiled with the blood.* ³⁹ And they became unclean by their works, and were unfaithful in their deeds.

²⁷ When your panic comes like a storm, and your calamity arrives like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you, ²⁸ then they will call* me, but I will not answer; they will seek me diligently but not find me.

³¹ And they built the high place of Topheth, which is in the Valley of Ben Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, which I have not commanded, and it did not come into my mind.*

¹² Although they fast, I am not listening to their cry of entreaty. And although they present burnt offering and grain offering, I am not favorable to them. But by the sword, and by the famine, and by the plague, I am about to destroy them."

⁵ and they have built the high places of Baal, to burn their children in the fire, burnt offerings to Baal, which I commanded not, and I ordered not, and it did not come to my _⌊mind_⌋.*

²⁰ 'And you took your sons and your daughters whom you had borne for me, and you sacrificed them to them to be eaten,* _⌊as if your whorings were not enough_⌋.*

³ "Son of man,* speak with the elders of Israel, and you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Are you coming to consult me? _⌊As I live_⌋,* I will surely not allow myself* to be consulted by you!" ' _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

¹³ 'Thus, just as I* called and they would not hear, so they will call and I will not hear,' says Yahweh of hosts.

¹¹ And later the other virgins came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open the door* for us!' ¹² But he answered and* said, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you!'

¹ From where are conflicts and from where are quarrels among you? Is it not from this, from your pleasures that wage war among your members? ² You desire and do not have; you murder and are filled with envy, and are not able to obtain; you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. ³ You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, in order that you may spend it on your pleasures.

²⁸ And you will there serve gods _⌊made by human hands_⌋,* of wood and stone, gods that cannot see and cannot hear and cannot eat and cannot smell.

⁶⁴ And Yahweh shall scatter you among all the nations from one end of the earth up to the other end of the earth, and there you shall serve other gods that you have not known nor* your ancestors,* gods of wood and stone.

¹⁷ And you have seen their detestable things and their idols of wood and stone, silver, and gold that were among them,

⁵ They said to him, "Look, you are old and your sons do not follow in your ways. So then appoint a king for us to judge* us, like all the nations.

² You know my sitting down and my rising up. You understand my thought from afar.

²¹ Many plans are in the heart* of a man, but the purpose of Yahweh will be established.

¹⁹ to _⌊set_⌋* their gods in the fire, for they were not gods, but the work of human hands, wood and stone, and they destroyed them.

¹⁷ But certainly we will do _⌊everything_⌋* that went out from our mouths,* to make smoke offerings to the queen of heaven and to pour out to her libations just as we did, we, and our ancestors,* our kings, and our officials, in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, for then _⌊we had enough to eat_⌋,* and we were well-off, and we did not see disaster.

²⁹ And this will be to you the sign,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'that I am going to punish you in this place, so that you may know that surely my words will endure against you for evil.'

³⁷ _⌊Who can speak_⌋* and it will happen if the Lord has not commanded it?

⁵ And the Spirit of Yahweh fell on me, and he said to me, "Say, 'thus says Yahweh: "This is what you think, house of Israel, and I myself know them,* the thoughts of your spirit.

¹⁰ " 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "_⌊And then_⌋* on that day, things* will come up on* your mind, and you will devise evil plans.

⁴ They drank the wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood and stone.*

² And do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, so that you may approve what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God.

²⁰ And the rest of humanity who were not killed by these plagues did not repent of the works of their hands, _⌊in order not to worship_⌋* the demons and the gold and silver and bronze and stone and wooden idols, which are able neither to see nor to hear nor to walk,

⁵ And I myself will fight against you with outstretched hand, and with strong arm, and in _⌊anger_⌋,* and in fury, and in great wrath.

¹⁸ For thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel: "As my anger and my wrath were poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will pour out on you at your going to Egypt, and you will become a curse, and a horror, and a curse formula, and a disgrace, and you will no longer see this place." '

⁶ So my wrath and my anger were poured out* and burned* in the towns of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, and they became as a site of ruins, as a desolation, as they are this day.'

⁴ He has bent his bow like an enemy; he has set his right hand like a foe, and he has slain all the treasures of the eye;* in the tent of the daughter of Zion, he has poured out his anger like fire.

¹¹ "And all Israel transgressed your law and turned aside so as not to listen to your voice, and so the curse and the oath which was written in the law of Moses, the servant of God, has been poured out upon us, because we have sinned against him. ¹² And so he has carried out his words which he spoke against us and against our rulers who ruled us, to bring upon us a great calamity which was not done under all of heaven as it was done in Jerusalem.

⁹ Therefore by this he will make atonement for the guilt of Jacob, and this will be all of the fruit of the removal of his sin: _⌊when he makes_⌋* all the stones of the altar like crushed stones of chalk, no poles of Asherah worship or incense altars will stand. ¹⁰ For the fortified city is solitary, a settlement deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness; the calf grazes there, lies down there and destroys its branches. ¹¹ _⌊When its branches are dry_⌋,* they are broken; women are coming and setting light to it.
For it is not a people of understanding;
therefore his maker will not have compassion on him, and his creator will not show him favor. ¹² And this shall happen:
on that day, Yahweh will thresh from the floodwaters of the Euphrates to the wadi* of Egypt, and as for you, you will be gathered one by one, sons of Israel. ¹³ And this shall happen:
on that day, a great trumpet will be blown,
and those who were lost in the land of Assyria will come, and those who were scattered in the land of Egypt,
and they will bow down to Yahweh on the _⌊holy mountain_⌋* at Jerusalem.

³⁸ And I will purge the rebels from among you and the ones transgressing against me; I will bring them out from the land _⌊where they are living as aliens_⌋,* but into the land of Israel they will not come, and then you will know that I am Yahweh.

¹⁶ "I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the scattered, and I will bind up the one hurt, and I will strengthen the sick; and the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed her with justice."

⁹ "Yes, look, I am going to command and I will shake the house of Israel among all the nations like one who shakes with a sieve, but not a pebble will fall to the ground. ¹⁰ All the sinners of my people will die by the sword, who say, 'Evil will not overtake or confront us.'

⁹ _⌊Therefore_⌋* I again bring a lawsuit against you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and with _⌊your children_⌋* I bring a lawsuit.

³⁵ yet you say, 'But I am innocent, surely his anger has turned away from me.' Look, I am entering into judgment with you because of your saying, 'I have not sinned.'

³¹ The rage of battle will resound to the end of the earth, for there is a lawsuit of Yahweh against the nations. He is entering into judgment with all wicked flesh, he will give them to the sword,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh."

²⁰ And I will spread my net over him, and he will be caught in my hunting net, and I will bring him to Babylon, and I will enter into judgment with him there about his infidelity that he displayed against me.

¹³ And now it is planted in the desert, in a _⌊dry and thirsty land_⌋.*

³⁶ _⌊Just as_⌋* I executed justice on your ancestors* in the desert of the land of Egypt, likewise I will execute justice on you!" _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

⁸ After many days you will be mustered; _⌊in the last years_⌋* you will come to a restored land from the sword, gathered from many peoples on the mountains of Israel which were as _⌊permanent ruins_⌋* but from peoples it was brought out, and they will dwell _⌊in safety_⌋,* all of them.

²² And I will execute justice with* him with a plague and with blood and _⌊torrents of rain_⌋,* and hailstones; fire and sulfur I will cause to fall on him and on his troops and on many peoples who are with him.

¹⁴ Therefore, Look! I am going to allure her and bring her into the desert, and _⌊I will speak tenderly to her_⌋.*

¹ Hear the word of Yahweh, O children of Israel, for Yahweh has an indictment against the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or loyalty, there is no knowledge of God in the land.

¹⁰ Writhe and groan, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in labor. For now you will go forth from the city, and you will camp in the field; you will go to Babylon. There you will be rescued; there Yahweh will redeem you from the hand of your enemies.

¹ Hear now what Yahweh says: "Arise! Plead your case with the mountains, and let the hills hear your voice." ² Hear, O mountains, the indictment of Yahweh, and you eternal foundations of the earth, for Yahweh has an indictment against his people, and against Israel he contends.

¹³ But the earth will be a desolation because of its inhabitants, for the fruit of their deeds. ¹⁴ Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your inheritance, those dwelling alone in a forest in the midst of Carmel. Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old. ¹⁵ As in the days when you came out from the land of Egypt I will show him wondrous things.

¹⁴ And the two wings of a great eagle were given to the woman, in order that she could fly into the wilderness, to her place where she is fed there for a time, and times, and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.

⁷ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, "Go, go down because your people behave corruptly, whom you brought up from the land of Egypt. ⁸ They have turned aside quickly from the way that I commanded them; they have made for themselves a cast-image bull calf, and they bowed to it, and they sacrificed to it, and they said, 'These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.'" ⁹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "I have seen this people, and, indeed, they are a stiff-necked people. ¹⁰ And now leave me alone so that _⌊my anger may blaze_⌋* against them, and let me destroy them, and I will make you into a great nation." ¹¹ And Moses _⌊implored Yahweh_⌋* his God, and he said, "Why, Yahweh, should _⌊your anger blaze_⌋* against your people whom you brought up from the land of Egypt with great power and with a strong hand? ¹² Why should the Egyptians _⌊say_⌋*, 'With evil intent he brought them out to kill them in the mountains and wipe them from the face of the earth'?* Turn from _⌊your fierce anger_⌋* and relent concerning the disaster for your people. ¹³ Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by yourself, and you told them, 'I will multiply your offspring like the stars of the heavens, and all this land that I promised I will give to your offspring, and they will inherit it forever.'" ¹⁴ And Yahweh relented concerning the disaster that he had _⌊threatened_⌋* to do to his people. ¹⁵ And Moses turned and went down from the mountain, and the two tablets of the testimony were in his hand, tablets written on their two sides; _⌊on the front and on the back_⌋* they were written. ¹⁶ And the tablets, they were the work of God; and the writing, it was the writing of God engraved on the tablets. ¹⁷ And Joshua heard the sound of the people in their shouting, and he said to Moses, "A sound of war is in the camp." ¹⁸ But he said, "There is not a sound of shouting of victory, and there is not a sound of shouting of defeat. I hear a sound of singing." ¹⁹ _⌊And_⌋* as he came near to the camp, he saw the bull calf and dancing, and _⌊Moses became angry_⌋,* and he threw the tablets from his hand, and he broke them under the mountain. ²⁰ And he took the bull calf that they had made, and he burned it with the fire, and he crushed it until it became fine, and he scattered it on the surface of the water, and he made the _⌊Israelites_⌋* drink. ²¹ And Moses said to Aaron, "What did this people do to you that you brought on them such a great sin?" ²² And Aaron said, "_⌊Let not my lord become angry_⌋.* You yourself know the people, that _⌊they are intent on evil_⌋.* ²³ And they said to me, 'Make for us gods who will go before us, because this Moses, the man who brought us up from the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.' ²⁴ And I said to them, 'Whoever has gold, take it off.' And they gave it to me, and I threw it in the fire, and out came this bull calf." ²⁵ And Moses saw the people, that they were running wild* because Aaron had allowed them to run wild,* for a laughingstock among _⌊their enemies_⌋.* ²⁶ And Moses stood at the entrance of the camp, and he said, "Whoever is for Yahweh, to me." And all the sons of Levi were gathered to him. ²⁷ And he said to them, "Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, 'Put each his sword on his side. Go _⌊back and forth_⌋* from gate to gate in the camp, and kill, each his brother and each his friend and each his close relative.'" ²⁸ And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses, and from the people on that day about three thousand persons fell.* ²⁹ And Moses said, "_⌊You are ordained_⌋* today for Yahweh, because each has been against his son and against his brother and so bringing on you today a blessing." ³⁰ _⌊And_⌋* the next day Moses said to the people, "You have sinned a great sin. And now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I can make atonement for your sin." ³¹ And Moses returned to Yahweh, and he said, "Alas, this people has sinned a great sin and made for themselves gods of gold. ³² And now if you will forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me from your scroll that you have written." ³³ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Whoever has sinned against me I will blot him from my scroll. ³⁴ And now go, lead the people to where I spoke to you. Look, my angel will go before you, and on the day when I punish I will punish them for their sin." ³⁵ And Yahweh afflicted the people because they had made the bull calf that Aaron had made.

¹ And it happened, the people were like those who _⌊complain of hardship_⌋* _⌊in the hearing_⌋* of Yahweh, and Yahweh _⌊became angry_⌋,* and the fire of Yahweh burned among them, and it consumed the edge of the camp. ² Then the people cried out to Moses, and Moses prayed to Yahweh, and the fire died down. ³ And he called the name of that place Taberah* because the fire of Yahweh burned among them. ⁴ The riff-raff that were in their midst _⌊had a strong desire_⌋;* and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* turned back and also wept, and they said, "Who will feed us meat? ⁵ We remember the fish that we ate in Egypt for nothing, the cucumber, melon, leek, the onions, and the garlic. ⁶ But now _⌊our strength is dried up_⌋;* there is nothing whatsoever except _⌊for the manna before us_⌋."* ⁷ Now the manna was like coriander seed, and its outward appearance was like that of bdellium-gum. ⁸ The people went about and gathered it, and they ground it with mills or crushed it with mortar. Then they boiled it in a pot and made it into bread-cakes; and it tasted like olive oil cakes. ⁹ When the dew came down on the camp at night, the manna came down with it. ¹⁰ Moses heard the people weeping according to their* clans, each at the doorway of their tents. Then _⌊Yahweh became very angry_⌋,* and in the eyes of Moses it was bad. ¹¹ And Moses said to Yahweh, "Why have you brought trouble to your servant? Why have I not found favor in your eyes, that the burdens of all these people have been placed on me? ¹² Did I conceive all these people? If I have fathered them,* that you could say to me, 'Carry them* in your lap, just as a foster-father carries the suckling on the land that you swore an oath to their ancestors?'* ¹³ From where do I have meat to give all these people? They weep before me, saying, 'Give us meat and let us eat!' ¹⁴ I am not able to carry all these people along alone; they are too heavy for me. ¹⁵ If this is how you are going to treat me, please kill me immediately if I find favor in your eyes, and do not let me see my misery." ¹⁶ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Gather for me seventy men from the elders of Israel whom you know are elders of the people and their* officials; take them to the tent of assembly, and they will stand there with you. ¹⁷ I will come down and speak with you there; I will take away from the spirit that is on you, and I will place it on them; and they will bear the burdens of the people with you; you will not bear it alone. ¹⁸ And you will say to the people, 'Sanctify yourselves tomorrow, for you will eat meat because you have wept in the ears of Yahweh, saying, "Who will feed us good meat? It was good for us in Egypt." Yahweh will give to you meat, and you will eat. ¹⁹ You will eat, not one day, or two days, or five days, or ten days, or twenty days, ²⁰ _⌊but for a whole month_⌋,* until it comes out from your nose and becomes as nausea to you; because you have rejected Yahweh, who is in your midst, and you wept before _⌊his presence_⌋,* saying, "Why did we ever leave Egypt?" '" ²¹ But Moses said, "There are six hundred thousand on foot, among whom I am in the midst, and you yourself said, 'I will give meat to them, and they will eat for a whole month.' ²² Should flocks and cattle be slaughtered for them? Should all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to be enough for them?" ²³ And Yahweh said to Moses, "_⌊Is Yahweh's power limited_⌋?* Now you will see if my word will happen or not." ²⁴ So Moses went out, and he spoke the words of Yahweh to the people, and he gathered together seventy men from the elders of the people, and he _⌊made them stand_⌋* all around the tent. ²⁵ Then Yahweh went down in the cloud and spoke to him, and he took away the spirit that was on him, and he _⌊put it_⌋* on the seventy elders. And as soon as the spirit was resting on them they prophesied, but they did not do it again. ²⁶ But two men were left in the camp; the name of one was Eldad, and the name of the second was Medad, and the spirit rested on them; they were among those who were written down, but they did not go out to the tent, so they prophesied in the camp. ²⁷ So a boy* ran and told Moses and said, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp." ²⁸ And Joshua son of Nun, the assistant of Moses from time of his youth, answered, "Moses, my lord, stop them." ²⁹ But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that he* give all Yahweh's people prophets, that Yahweh put his spirit on them!" ³⁰ Then Moses and the elders of Israel were gathered to the camp. ³¹ Then a wind set out from Yahweh, and it drove quails from the west, and he spread them out on the camp about a day's journey on one side and about a day's journey on the other, all around the camp, about two cubits on the surface of the land. ³² And so the people _⌊worked_⌋* all day and all night and all the next day, and they gathered the quail (the least of the ones collecting gathered ten homers).* ³³ While the meat was still between their teeth, before it was consumed, Yahweh was angry with the people, and Yahweh struck a very great plague among the people. ³⁴ And he called the name of that place Kibroth Hattaavah* because they buried the people that _⌊were greedy_⌋.* ³⁵ From Kibroth Hattaavah* the people set out to Hazeroth; and they stayed* in Hazeroth.

¹ Then all the community _⌊lifted up their voices_⌋,* and the people wept during that night. ² And all the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and all the community said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt or in this desert! ³ Why did Yahweh bring us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little children will become plunder; would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?" ⁴ _⌊They said to each other_⌋,* "Let us appoint a leader, and we will return to Egypt." ⁵ Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces _⌊before_⌋* the assembly of the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ⁶ Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, from the explorers of the land, tore their garments. ⁷ And they said to all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* "The land that we went through to explore is an _⌊exceptionally good land_⌋.* ⁸ If Yahweh delights in us, then he will bring us into this land, and he will give it to us, a land that is flowing with milk and honey. ⁹ Only do not rebel against Yahweh, and you will not fear the people of the land, because they will be our food. _⌊Their protection_⌋* has been turned from them; Yahweh is with us. You should not fear them." ¹⁰ And all the community said to stone them with stones, but the glory of Yahweh appeared in the tent of assembly among the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* ¹¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "How long until this people will despise me, and how long until they will not believe in me, and in all the signs that I have done in their* midst? ¹² I will strike them* with disease, and I will dispossess them;* I will make you into a greater and stronger nation than them."* ¹³ And Moses said to Yahweh, "Then the Egyptians will hear that you brought up this people from their* midst in your power, ¹⁴ and they will _⌊tell it_⌋* to the inhabitants of this land. They heard that you, Yahweh, are in the midst of this people, that you are seen eye to eye, and your cloud is standing over them, and in a column of cloud you go before them by day and in a column of fire at night. ¹⁵ But if you destroy this people _⌊all at once_⌋,* the nations that will have heard your message will say, ¹⁶ 'Yahweh was unable to bring this people in the land that he swore by an oath, and he slaughtered them in the desert.' ¹⁷ But now, please, let the power of my Lord be great, just has you spoke, ¹⁸ 'Yahweh is _⌊slow to anger_⌋* and great of loyal love, _⌊forgiving_⌋* sin and rebellion; but surely he leaves nothing unpunished, visiting the sin of the fathers on the sons to the third and fourth generations.' ¹⁹ Please forgive the sin of this people according to the greatness of your loyal love, just as you _⌊forgave_⌋* this people, from Egypt until now." ²⁰ Yahweh said, "I have forgiven them according to your word; ²¹ but as I am alive, the glory of Yahweh will fill all the earth. ²² But because all the men who have seen my glory and my signs that I did in Egypt and in the desert yet tested me these ten times and did not listen to my voice, ²³ they will not see the land that I swore by oath to their ancestors,* and all those who despised me will not see it. ²⁴ But my servant Caleb, because another spirit was with him, he remained true after me, and I will bring him into the land that _⌊he entered_⌋,* and his offspring will take possession of it. ²⁵ And the Amalekites and the Canaanites live in the valleys; tomorrow turn and set out for the desert by way of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋."* ²⁶ And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, ²⁷ "How long will I bear this evil community who are grumbling against me? I have heard the grumbling of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* which _⌊they are making_⌋* against me. ²⁸ Say to them, 'Surely as I live,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'just as you spoke _⌊in my hearing_⌋,* so I will do to you; ²⁹ in this desert your corpses will fall, and all your counted ones, according to all your number, from _⌊twenty years old_⌋* and above who grumbled against me. ³⁰ You yourselves will not come into the land that _⌊I swore by oath_⌋* to make you to dwell in it, but Caleb son of Jephunneh and Joshua son of Nun. ³¹ But your little children, whom you said would be plunder, I will bring them, and they will know the land that you rejected. ³² But for you, all your corpses will fall in this desert. ³³ And your children will be shepherds in the desert forty years,* and you will bear your unfaithfulness until _⌊all your corpses have fallen_⌋* in the desert. ³⁴ According to the number of the days* that you explored the land, forty days,* _⌊a day for each year_⌋,* you will bear your sins forty years,* and you will know my opposition.' ³⁵ I, Yahweh, have spoken; I will surely do this to all this evil community who has banded together against me. In this desert they will come to an end, and there they will die." ³⁶ As for the men whom Moses sent to explore the land, who returned and made the community grumble against him by spreading a report over the land, ³⁷ the men who spread the evil report of the land died by the plague _⌊before Yahweh_⌋.* ³⁸ But Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh lived from among the men who went to explore the land. ³⁹ And Moses spoke words to all the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and the people mourned greatly. ⁴⁰ They rose early in the morning and went to the top of the mount, saying, "Here we are. We will go up to the place that Yahweh said, because we have sinned." ⁴¹ But Moses said, "Why are you going against the command of Yahweh? It will not succeed. ⁴² You should not go up because Yahweh is not in your midst; do not let yourselves be defeated in the presence of your enemies, ⁴³ because the Amalekites* and the Canaanites* are there _⌊before you_⌋,* and you will fall by the sword; because you have turned back from Yahweh, and Yahweh will not be with you." ⁴⁴ But they dared to go to the top of the mountain, and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh and Moses did not depart from the midst of the camp. ⁴⁵ So the Amalekites* and the Canaanites* who were living on the mountain descended, and they beat them down, up to Hormah.

¹ Now Korah son of Izhar, son of Kohath, son of Levi, and Dathan and Abiram sons of Eliab, and On son of Peleth, the descendants* of Reuben, ² took two hundred and fifty men from the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* leaders of the community summoned from the assembly, _⌊renowned men_⌋,* and _⌊they confronted_⌋* Moses. ³ They were assembled in front of Moses and Aaron, and they said to them, "_⌊You take too much upon yourselves_⌋!* All of the community is holy, every one of them, and Yahweh is in their midst, so why do you raise yourselves over the assembly of Yahweh?" ⁴ When Moses heard this, he fell on his face. ⁵ And he said to Korah and to his entire company, saying, "Tomorrow morning Yahweh will make known who is his and who is holy, and he will bring him near to him, whomever he chooses he will bring near to him. ⁶ Do this: take for yourselves censers, Korah and all of your company;* ⁷ tomorrow put fire in them and place incense on them _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh; the man whom Yahweh chooses will be the holy one. You take too much upon yourselves, sons of Levi!" ⁸ And Moses said to Korah, "Please listen, sons of Levi! ⁹ Is it too little for you that the God of Israel set you apart from the community of Israel _⌊to allow you to approach him_⌋* to do the work of the tabernacle of Yahweh, to stand _⌊before_⌋* the community to serve them? ¹⁰ _⌊He has allowed you to approach him_⌋,* you with all your brothers, the descendants* of Levi, but yet you also seek the priesthood. ¹¹ Therefore you and your company that has banded together against Yahweh. What is Aaron that you grumble against him?" ¹² Moses sent to call for Dathan and Abiram son of Eliab, but they said, "We will not come!* ¹³ Is it too little that you have brought us from a land that flows with milk and honey to kill us in the desert, and that you also appoint yourself as a ruler over us? ¹⁴ Surely, you have not brought us to a land that flows with milk and honey, and you have not given us the inheritance of fields and a vineyard. Will you gouge out the eyes of these men? We will not come!"* ¹⁵ Then Moses became angry, and he said to Yahweh, "Do not notice their grain offering. I have not offered one donkey from them, and I have not mistreated one of them." ¹⁶ And Moses said to Korah, "You and your entire company will be _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh tomorrow, you and they and Aaron. ¹⁷ Each one take his censer, and put incense on it* and you will present it _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh, and each of you bring his censer, two hundred and fifty censers, you and Aaron, each his censer." ¹⁸ So each of them took his censer, and they put fire on them, and they placed incense on them; they stood at the doorway of the tent of the assembly of Moses and Aaron. ¹⁹ And Korah summoned them, the entire community, by the doorway of the tent of assembly, and the glory of Yahweh appeared to all the community. ²⁰ And Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, ²¹ "Separate yourselves from the midst of this community, that I can destroy them in a moment." ²² And they fell on their faces, and they said, "God, God of the spirits of all flesh, will one man sin and you become angry toward the entire community?" ²³ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ²⁴ "Speak to the community, saying, 'Move away from the dwelling of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.'" ²⁵ So Moses stood up and went to Dathan and Abiram; the elders of Israel followed after him. ²⁶ He said to the community, saying, "Please turn away from the tents of these wicked men, and do not touch anything _⌊that belongs to them_⌋,* or you will be destroyed with all their sins." ²⁷ And so they moved away from around the dwellings* of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram; and Dathan and Abiram came out standing at the doorway of their tents, with their wives, sons, and little children. ²⁸ And Moses said, "In this you will know that Yahweh has sent me to do all these works; it is not from my heart. ²⁹ _⌊If they die a natural death_⌋* or _⌊if a natural fate is visited upon them_⌋,* Yahweh has not sent me. ³⁰ But if Yahweh creates something new, and the ground opens its mouth and swallows them up and _⌊all that belongs to them_⌋,* and they go down alive to Sheol, and you will know that these men have despised Yahweh." ³¹ And it happened, as soon as he finished _⌊speaking_⌋* all these words, the ground that was under them split open. ³² The land opened its mouth and swallowed them up with their houses and every person _⌊that belonged to Korah_⌋* and all the property. ³³ They went down alive to Sheol, they and all that belonged to them, and the land covered over them, and they perished from the midst of the assembly. ³⁴ All Israel who were around them fled at their cry, because they said, "Lest the land swallow us up!" ³⁵ And fire went out from Yahweh, and it consumed the two hundred and fifty men presenting the incense. ³⁶ * And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ³⁷ "Say to Eleazar son of Aaron the priest, '_⌊Take out_⌋* the censers from among the place of burning because they are sacred, and scatter the fire outside. ³⁸ The censers of these _⌊who have sinned_⌋* at the cost of their lives, let them be made into gilded leafing plating for the altar; because they presented them _⌊before Yahweh_⌋,* they are holy; and they will be a sign for the _⌊Israelites_⌋.'"* ³⁹ Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers that the ones who were burned presented, and they hammered them out thinly as plating for the altar; ⁴⁰ it was a memorial for the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* so that _⌊no strange man_⌋* who is not from _⌊the offspring_⌋* of Aaron should approach the presence of Yahweh to burn a smoke offering;* he will not be like Korah and his company, just as Yahweh had spoken to him by the hand of Moses.* ⁴¹ The next day all the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* grumbled against Moses and Aaron, saying, "You have killed the people of Yahweh!" ⁴² Then, when the community had gathered against Moses and Aaron, they turned to the tent of assembly, and behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Yahweh appeared. ⁴³ And Moses and Aaron came to the front of the tent of assembly, ⁴⁴ and Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ⁴⁵ "Get away from the midst of this community, and I will finish them in an instant,"* but they fell on their faces. ⁴⁶ And Moses and Aaron said, "Take the censer, and put fire on it from the altar. Place incense on it, and bring it quickly to the community, and make atonement for them, because wrath went out from the presence of Yahweh, and a plague has begun." ⁴⁷ And so Aaron took it just as Moses had spoken, and he ran into the midst of the assembly, for behold, the plague had begun among the people; so he gave the incense and made atonement for the people. ⁴⁸ He stood between the dead and between the living, and the plague was stopped. ⁴⁹ Those who died by the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides those who died on account of Korah. ⁵⁰ Then Aaron returned to Moses at the doorway of the tent of assembly, and the plague was stopped.

¹ When Israel dwelled in Shittim, the people began to prostitute* themselves with the daughters of Moab. ² And they invited the people to the sacrifices of their gods, and the people ate and worshiped their gods. ³ So Israel was joined together to Baal Peor, and _⌊Yahweh became angry_⌋* with Israel. ⁴ Yahweh said to Moses, "Take all _⌊the leaders_⌋* of the people and kill them before the sun, so the fierce anger of Yahweh will turn from Israel." ⁵ So Moses said to the judges of Israel, "Each of you kill his men who are joined together with Baal Peor." ⁶ And behold, a man from the _⌊Israelites_⌋* came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman before the eyes of Moses and before the eyes of all of the community of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and they were weeping at the doorway of the tent of assembly. ⁷ When Phinehas son of Eleazar son of Aaron the priest saw, he got up from the midst of the community and took a spear in his hand. ⁸ He went after the man of Israel into the woman's section of the tent, and he drove the two of them, the man of Israel and the woman, into her belly. And the plague among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* stopped. ⁹ The ones who died in the plague were twenty-four thousand. ¹⁰ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹¹ "Phinehas son of Eleazar, son of Aaron the priest, turned away my anger from among the _⌊Israelites_⌋* when he was jealous with my jealousy in their midst, and I did not destroy the _⌊Israelites_⌋* with my jealousy. ¹² Therefore say, 'Behold, I am giving to him my covenant of peace, ¹³ and it will be for him and his _⌊offspring_⌋* after him a covenant of an eternal priesthood because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the _⌊Israelites_⌋.'"* ¹⁴ The name of the man of Israel who was struck with the Midianite woman was Zimri son of Salu, a leader of _⌊the family_⌋* of the Simeonites.* ¹⁵ The name of the Midianite woman who was struck was Cozbi daughter of Zur, _⌊a leader_⌋* of a tribe of _⌊the family_⌋* in Midian. ¹⁶ Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ¹⁷ "Attack the Midianites and strike them ¹⁸ because they were attacking you with their deception, with which they have deceived you on the matter of Peor and on the matter of Cozbi the daughter of the leader of Midian, their sister who was struck on the day of the plague because of the matter of Peor."

¹⁵ So he gave to them their request, but he sent leanness into their souls.* ¹⁶ And they were jealous of Moses in the camp, and of Aaron, the holy one of Yahweh. ¹⁷ The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and it covered over the gang of Abiram. ¹⁸ Also fire burned in their assembly; the flame devoured the wicked. ¹⁹ They made a calf at Horeb and bowed down to a cast image. ²⁰ And so they exchanged their glory for an image of an ox that eats grass. ²¹ They forgot God their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, ²² wonders in the land of Ham, awesome deeds by _⌊the Red Sea_⌋.* ²³ So he said he would exterminate them, had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to reverse his wrath from destroying them. ²⁴ Then they refused the desirable land; they did not believe his word, ²⁵ but grumbled in their tents. They did not obey the voice of Yahweh. ²⁶ So _⌊he made an oath_⌋* against them, to make them drop in the wilderness, ²⁷ and to disperse* their _⌊descendants_⌋* among the nations and to scatter them among the lands. ²⁸ They also attached themselves to Baal of Peor, and they ate sacrifices offered to the dead.* ²⁹ Thus they provoked to anger by their deeds, and a plague broke out among them. ³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up and intervened, and so the plague was stopped, ³¹ and it was reckoned to him as righteousness _⌊throughout all generations_⌋.* ³² They also angered God at the waters of Meribah, and it went badly for Moses on account of them, ³³ because they rebelled against his Spirit,* and he spoke thoughtlessly with his lips. ³⁴ They did not exterminate the peoples, as Yahweh had commanded them, * ³⁵ but they mingled with the nations and learned their works, ³⁶ and served their idols, which became* a snare to them. ³⁷ They even sacrificed their sons and daughters to the demons, ³⁸ and they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and so the land was defiled with the blood.* ³⁹ And they became unclean by their works, and were unfaithful in their deeds. ⁴⁰ So Yahweh's anger burned against his people, and he abhorred his inheritance. ⁴¹ Then he gave them into the hand of the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them. ⁴² And their enemies oppressed them, and they were subdued under their hand. ⁴³ Many times he delivered them, but they rebelled in their counsel, and were brought low by their iniquity. ⁴⁴ Yet he looked upon their distress when he heard their cry. ⁴⁵ And he remembered his covenant with them, and relented based on the abundance of his loyal love. ⁴⁶ And he _⌊let them find compassion_⌋* before all their captors. ⁴⁷ Save us, O Yahweh our God, and gather us from the nations, so that we may give thanks to your holy name and boast in your praise. ⁴⁸ Blessed is Yahweh, the God of Israel, from everlasting and to everlasting. And let all the people say, "Amen!" Praise Yah.*

⁵ But God was not pleased with the majority of them, for they were struck down in the desert. ⁶ Now these things happened as examples for us, so that we should not be desirers of evil things, just as those also desired them, ⁷ and not become idolaters, as some of them did, just as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink, and stood up to play,"* ⁸ nor commit sexual immorality, as some of them committed sexual immorality, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day, ⁹ nor put Christ to the test, as some of them tested him, and were destroyed by snakes, ¹⁰ nor grumble, just as some of them grumbled, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

²⁵ And I will bring upon you a sword that seeks vengeance for the covenant, and you shall be gathered to your cities; and I will send a plague in your midst, and you shall be given into the hand of an enemy.

³² As for* every tithe of cattle or* of the flock,* all which crosses under the rod, the tenth shall be a holy object for Yahweh.

³⁰ If his sons forsake my law and do not walk in my judgments, ³¹ if they defile* my statutes and do not keep my commandments, ³² then I will punish their transgression with a rod, and their guilt with wounds.

¹³ In the towns of the hill country, in the towns of the Shephelah, and in the towns of the Negev, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the surroundings of Jerusalem, and in the towns of Judah, flocks will again pass under the hands of the counter,' says Yahweh.

⁵⁹ 'For thus says the Lord Yahweh: And I will do it* to you _⌊according to what you have done_⌋,* who despised the oath to break covenant. ⁶⁰ And I, I will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish with you _⌊an everlasting covenant_⌋.*

¹⁷ " 'And you, my flock, thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I am judging between _⌊one sheep and another_⌋,* between the rams and between the he-goats.

² "You only have I _⌊chosen_⌋* of all the clans of the earth. Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

³² And all the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate them from one another like a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. ³³ And he will place the sheep on his right and the goats on the left.

¹⁶ Yahweh has made himself known; he has executed judgment. The wicked is snared by the work of his hands. Higgaion* Selah

¹⁴ And there will not be a survivor or an escapee of the remnant of Judah, those who have come to dwell as an alien there in the land of Egypt, to return to the land of Judah where they are _⌊longing_⌋* to return to dwell there, for they will not turn back, _⌊but only_⌋* some survivors.'"

²¹ But to* the heart of their abominations and the detestable things their heart is going. I will bring their way on their head," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.'"

⁹ "And it will be my hand against the prophets who are seeing falseness and who are practicing lying divination. They will not be in the council of my people, and they will not be written down in the record book of the house of Israel, and into* the land of Israel they will not come, and then you will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.

⁷ And I will set my face against them. From the fire they may_⌊escape_⌋,* but the fire will yet consume them, and they will know that I am Yahweh _⌊when I set my face against them_⌋.*

⁴⁹ And they will repay your obscene conduct upon you, and the guilt of your idols you will bear, and you will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.

¹⁷ " 'And you, my flock, thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I am judging between _⌊one sheep and another_⌋,* between the rams and between the he-goats. ¹⁸ _⌊Is it not enough for you_⌋* that you feed on the good pasture? And still you must trample the remainder of your pasture with your feet, and _⌊clear water_⌋* you drink, and the _⌊leftover water_⌋* you must make muddy with your feet. ¹⁹ And my flock must graze the pasture treaded upon by* your feet, and must drink the mud puddle stirred up by* your feet." ²⁰ " 'Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh to them: "Look! I, even I will judge between fat sheep and between lean sheep, ²¹ because with your flank and with your shoulder you shoved, and with your horns you pushed all of the sick animals _⌊until_⌋* you scattered it* to the outside. ²² And so I will save my flock, and _⌊they will no longer be_⌋* for plunder, and I will judge between _⌊one sheep and another_⌋.*

⁸ _⌊And then_⌋* in all the land," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "_⌊two thirds_⌋* will be cut off and perish, and one third will be left alive* in it. ⁹ And I will bring the remaining third into the fire, and I will refine them like one refines silver, and I will test them like one tests gold. They* will call my name, and I will answer them.* I will say, 'They* are my people,' and they* will say, 'Yahweh is my God.'"

³ He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the children of Levi, and he will refine them like gold and like silver, and they will present to Yahweh offerings* in righteousness.

¹ * "For look! The day is about to come, burning like an oven, and all the arrogant and every _⌊evildoer_⌋* will be stubble. The coming day will consume* them," says Yahweh of hosts. "It will not leave behind for them root or branch. ² But for you who revere* my name, the sun of righteousness will rise, with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like _⌊fattened calves_⌋.* ³ You will trample down the wicked, for they will be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I am going to act," says Yahweh of hosts.

⁹ And do not think to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as father.' For I say to you that God is able to raise up children for Abraham from these stones! ¹⁰ Already now the ax is positioned at the root of the trees; therefore every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

¹² His winnowing shovel is in his hand, and he will clean out his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the storehouse, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

²⁷ And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel,
"Even if the number of the sons of Israel is like the sand of the sea, the remnant will be saved, ²⁸ _⌊for the Lord will execute his sentence thoroughly and decisively_⌋* upon the earth."* ²⁹ And just as Isaiah foretold,
"If the Lord of hosts had not left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom and would have resembled Gomorrah."*

⁵ But God was not pleased with the majority of them, for they were struck down in the desert.

⁶ Since therefore it remains for some to enter into it, and the ones to whom the good news was proclaimed previously did not enter because of disobedience,

⁵ Now I want to remind you, although you know everything once and for all,* that Jesus,* having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, the second time destroyed those who did not believe.

¹⁴ Go and cry out to the gods whom you have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your trouble."

¹³ You must not _⌊continue_⌋* to bring offerings* of futility, incense—it is an abomination to me; new moon and Sabbath, the calling of a convocation— I cannot endure iniquity with solemn assembly. ¹⁴ Your new moons and your appointed festivals my soul hates; they have become to me like a burden, I am not able to bear them. ¹⁵ And when you stretch out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers,* I will not be listening. Your hands are full of blood.

³ The one who slaughters a bull strikes a man; the one who slaughters a lamb for sacrifice breaks the neck of a dog. The one who offers an offering, the blood of swine; the one who offers frankincense blesses an idol. Indeed, they themselves have chosen their ways, and their soul delights in their abhorrence.

⁹ Will you steal? Will you murder? And will you commit adultery? And will you swear _⌊falsely_⌋?* And will you make a smoke offering to the Baal? And will you go after other gods whom you have not known? ¹⁰ And then you come and you stand _⌊before_⌋* me in this house, which is called _⌊by my name_⌋,* and you say, 'we are safe _⌊to go on doing_⌋* all of these detestable things.' ¹¹ Has this house, which is called _⌊by my name_⌋,* become a cave of robbers in your eyes? Look, I, even I, have seen it," * _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

²⁵ Thus says Yahweh of hosts, the God of Israel, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'You and your wives have promised with your mouths* and with your hands* you have fulfilled, _⌊saying_⌋,* "We certainly will carry out our vows that we vowed, to make smoke offerings to the queen of the heavens,* and to pour out to her libations." You must certainly keep your vows and you must certainly carry out your vows.' ²⁶ _⌊Therefore_⌋* hear the word of Yahweh, all Judah, those who live in the land of Egypt: 'Look, I hereby swear by my great name,' says Yahweh, 'surely my name will no longer be called in the mouth of any man of Judah, saying, "_⌊as the Lord Yahweh lives_⌋,"* in all the land of Egypt.

²⁵ And in turn I gave to them rules that were not good and regulations _⌊by which they will not live_⌋.* ²⁶ And I defiled them through their gifts in sacrificing all of the first offspring of the womb, in order that* I will cause them to be stunned, so that they will know that I am Yahweh.

³⁷ For they committed adultery, and blood is on their hands, and they committed adultery with their idols, and even their children that they had borne for me—they sacrificed them as food! ³⁸ Also they did this to me: they defiled my sanctuary on that day, and they profaned my Sabbaths, ³⁹ and when they slaughtered their children for their idols, they came to my sanctuary on that day to profane it. And look, _⌊this is what they did in my house_⌋!*

⁷ And he said to me, "Son of man,* this is the place of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet _⌊where I will dwell_⌋* in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* to eternity, and they, the house of Israel, they and their kings, will not again defile _⌊my holy name_⌋* with their fornication and with their offerings for the dead* of their kings on their high places.

¹⁷ Ephraim is joined to idols; let him alone.

⁴ "Come to Bethel and transgress; to Gilgal and _⌊multiply transgression_⌋!* Bring your sacrifices in the morning and your tithes on the _⌊third day_⌋.* ⁵ And bring a thank offering of unleavened bread, and proclaim freewill offerings, pronounce them, for so you love to do, O _⌊people_⌋* of Israel," is the declaration of my Lord Yahweh.

⁴ "And I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And I will cut off from this place the remnant of Baal, and the name of idolatrous priests with the priests,* ⁵ and those who bow down on the rooftops to the host of heaven, and those who bow down, swearing to Yahweh but also swearing by Milkom,*

²⁴ "No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money.*

¹¹ And because of this, God sends them _⌊a powerful delusion_⌋* so that they will believe the lie,

¹⁵ 'I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot! ¹⁶ Thus, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I am about to vomit you out of my mouth!

⁶ "But as for me, I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain."

¹⁵ A mountain of God* is the mountain of Bashan; a mountain of many peaks is the mountain of Bashan. ¹⁶ Why do you look with hostility, O many-peaked mountains? This* mountain God desires for his dwelling. Yes, Yahweh will abide in it forever.

² And it shall happen in the future of the days the mountain of the house* of Yahweh shall be established; it will be among the highest* of the mountains, and it shall be raised from the hills. All of the nations shall travel to him; ³ many peoples shall come. And they shall say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, to the house* of the God of Jacob, and may he teach us part of his ways, and let us walk in his paths." For instruction shall go out from Zion, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.

⁷ I will bring them to _⌊my holy mountain_⌋;* I will make them merry in my house of prayer. their burnt offerings and their sacrifices _⌊will be accepted_⌋* on my altar, for my house shall be called a house of prayer for all peoples,"

⁷ All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered to you; the rams of Nebaioth shall serve you. They shall present a sacrifice for favor on my altar, and I will glorify _⌊my honorable house_⌋.*

²⁰ and bring all your countrymen* from all the nations as an offering to Yahweh on horses and chariots* and in litters and on mules and camels, to* _⌊my holy mountain_⌋,* Jerusalem," says Yahweh, "just as the sons of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel to the house of Yahweh.

²³ And this shall happen: From _⌊new moon to new moon_⌋* and from _⌊Sabbath to Sabbath_⌋* all flesh shall come to bow in worship before me," says Yahweh.

¹² And they will come, and they will sing for joy on the height of Zion, and they will be radiant over the goodness of Yahweh, over the grain, and over the wine, and over the olive oil, and over the young ones of the flock, and over the cattle. And their life will become like a well-watered garden, and they will never languish again."

²³ On the height of the mountain of Israel I will plant it, and it will carry* branches,* and it will bear fruit, and _⌊it will become a noble cedar_⌋,* and all of the birds of all wings* will dwell under it in the shade of its branches.

²² And I will make them into one nation in the land on the mountains of Israel, and _⌊they will all have one king as their king_⌋,* and they* will not again be two nations and will not again divide into two kingdoms again. ²³ And they will not defile themselves again with their idols and with vile idols and with all of their transgressions, and I will save them from all of their apostasy _⌊by which they sinned_⌋,* and I will cleanse them and they will be for me as a people and I, I will be for them as God. ²⁴ " '"And my servant David will be king over them, and one shepherd will be for all of them, and in my regulations they will go, and my statutes they will observe, and they will do them. ²⁵ And they will dwell on the land that I gave to my servant, to Jacob, _⌊in which your ancestors dwelled_⌋,* and they will dwell on it, they and their children and the children of their children _⌊forever_⌋,* and my servant David will be a leader for them _⌊forever_⌋.* ²⁶ And I will make with them a covenant of peace; _⌊an everlasting covenant_⌋* it will be with them. And I will establish them, and I will cause them to increase, and I will put my sanctuary in the midst of them _⌊forever_⌋.* ²⁷ And my tabernacle will be with them, and I will be for them as God, and they will be to me as a nation. ²⁸ And the nations will know that I, Yahweh, am consecrating Israel when my sanctuary is in the midst of them _⌊forever_⌋." '"*

²⁷ And they will finish the days, _⌊and then_⌋* on the eighth day and beyond that the priests will offer on the altar your burnt offerings and your fellowship offerings, and then I will be pleased with you," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

¹⁷ And you will know that I, Yahweh your God, am dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain. And Jerusalem will be a place of holiness, and strangers will pass through it no longer. ¹⁸ And it will happen on that day; the mountains will drip new wine, and the hills will flow with milk, and all the channels of Judah will flow with water. A spring from the house of Yahweh will come forth, and it will water the valley of Acacia Trees.*

¹⁶ For just as you have drunk on _⌊my holy mountain_⌋,* all the nations will drink continually. They will drink and they will slurp, and they will be as if they had never been.

¹ And it will be that at the end of those days, the mountain of Yahweh will be established as the highest of the mountains, and it will be lifted up above the hills, and people will stream to it. ² And many nations will come and say, "Come! Let us go up to the mountain of Yahweh, and to the _⌊temple_⌋* of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways, and that we may walk in his paths," for the law will go out from Zion, and the word of Yahweh from Jerusalem.

²⁰ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'It will happen again that nations and the inhabitants of many cities will come. ²¹ And the inhabitants of one city will go to another city, saying, "Let us go immediately to entreat _⌊the favor of_⌋* Yahweh, to seek Yahweh of hosts—I also will go!" ²² And many peoples and powerful* nations will come to seek Yahweh of hosts in Jerusalem, and to entreat _⌊the favor of_⌋* Yahweh.' ²³ Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'In those days ten men from _⌊all the nations of every language_⌋* will take hold of the hem of a Judean man,* saying, "Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you!" '"

¹¹ From the rising of the sun to its setting, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is being presented to my name, and a pure offering. For my name is great among the nations," says Yahweh of hosts.

⁴ And the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to Yahweh, like in the days of old and like in former years.

²⁰ For they could not endure what was commanded: "If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned."* ²¹ And the spectacle was so terrifying that Moses said, "I am terrified and trembling."* ²² But you have come to Mount Zion, and to the city of the living God, to the heavenly Jerusalem, and to tens of thousands of angels, to the festal gathering

¹⁵ Therefore through him let us offer up a sacrifice of praise _⌊continually_⌋* to God, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name.

⁵ And you yourselves, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

¹ And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun and with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars,

¹⁰ And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and lofty mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,

²¹ And Yahweh smelled the soothing fragrance, and Yahweh said _⌊to himself_⌋,* "_⌊Never again will I curse_⌋* the ground for the sake of humankind, because the inclination of the heart of humankind is evil from his youth. _⌊Nor will I ever again destroy_⌋* all life as I have done.

⁹ Then* he must wash its inner parts* and its lower leg bones with water, and the priest will turn into smoke the whole animal on the altar as a burnt offering by fire, as an appeasing fragrance for Yahweh.

³ Therefore* Moses said to Aaron, "This is what Yahweh spoke, saying, 'Among those who are close to me I will show myself holy, and _⌊in the presence of_⌋* all the people I will display my glory.'"* So* Aaron was silent.

¹⁶ But Yahweh of hosts is exalted by justice, and the holy God shows himself holy by righteousness.

¹¹ And this shall happen on that day:
The Lord will again extend his hand a second time to acquire the remnant of his people that is left, from Assyria, Egypt, Pathros, Cush, Elam, Shinar, Hamath, and the coastlands of the sea, ¹² and he will raise a signal for the nations. And he will gather the outcasts of Israel, and he will gather the scattered ones of Judah together from the four _⌊corners_⌋* of the earth. ¹³ And the jealousy of Ephraim shall depart, and the enemies of Judah shall be cut off. Ephraim shall not be jealous of Judah, and Judah shall not be an enemy of Ephraim. ¹⁴ But they shall _⌊swoop_⌋* upon the Philistine shoulder,* _⌊westward_⌋.* Together they shall plunder the sons of the east. Edom and Moab _⌊will be under their command_⌋,* and the sons of Ammon will be their subjugated people. ¹⁵ And Yahweh will divide* the tongue* of the sea of Egypt,* and he will wave his hand over the river* with his scorching wind; and he will strike it into seven streams, and he will _⌊make it passable by foot_⌋.* ¹⁶ So there shall be a highway from Assyria for the remnant of his people that remains, as there was for Israel _⌊when_⌋* it went up from the land of Egypt.

³ "Then I myself will gather together the remnant of my flock from all the lands where I have driven them, and I will bring them back to their grazing place, and they will be fruitful, and they will become numerous.

³ For look, days are coming,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, 'when I will restore the fortunes* of my people Israel and Judah,' says Yahweh, 'and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their ancestors* and they will take possession of it.'"

¹⁸ Thus says Yahweh:
'Look, I will restore the fortunes* of the tents of Jacob, and I will have compassion on his dwellings, and the city will be rebuilt upon its mound, and the citadel fortress will stand on its rightful site.

³⁷ Look, I am going to gather them from all the lands to which I driven them in my anger, and in my fury, and in great wrath, and I will bring them back to this place, and I will cause them to dwell _⌊in safety_⌋.*

¹⁷ Therefore say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "And I will assemble you from the peoples, and I will gather you from the countries to which you were scattered among them, and I will give the land of Israel to you.

²⁸ And I brought them to the land that _⌊I swore_⌋* to give* to them, and they saw every high hill and every leafy tree, and they offered their sacrifices, and they presented there the provocation of their offering, and they gave there their fragrant incense offering, and they poured out their libations there.

²² and you must say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh:
"Look! I am against you, Sidon, and I display my glory in the midst of you, and they will know that I am Yahweh _⌊when I execute my judgments_⌋,* and I will show myself holy within it.

²⁵ Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "When I gather the house of Israel from the peoples to which they were scattered about in them, and I show myself holy in* them before the eyes of the nations, then they will live on their soil, which I gave to my servant Jacob.

¹⁹ And my flock must graze the pasture treaded upon by* your feet, and must drink the mud puddle stirred up by* your feet."

²³ And I will consecrate my great name, which was profaned among the nations and which you have profaned in the midst of them, and the nations will know that I am Yahweh!" ' a declaration of the Lord Yahweh, _⌊when I show myself holy_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* their eyes. ²⁴ " 'And I will take you from the nations, and I will gather you from all of the lands, and I will bring you to your land.

²⁵ And they will dwell on the land that I gave to my servant, to Jacob, _⌊in which your ancestors dwelled_⌋,* and they will dwell on it, they and their children and the children of their children _⌊forever_⌋,* and my servant David will be a leader for them _⌊forever_⌋.*

²³ And so I will exalt myself, and I will show myself holy, and I will make myself known before the eyes of many nations, and they will know that I am Yahweh.'"

²⁷ When I restore them from the nations and I gather them from the countries of their enemies, then I will show myself holy through them before the eyes of many nations. ²⁸ And they will know that I am Yahweh their God, because of when I deported them into the nations, and I reassembled them to their soil, and _⌊I will not let any of them remain there any longer_⌋.* ²⁹ And I will not hide my face again from them when I pour out my Spirit over* the house of Israel," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

¹⁴ And I will restore the fortunes of my people Israel, and they will rebuild the desolated cities and will inhabit them. And they will plant vineyards and will drink their wine, and they will make gardens and will eat their fruit.

¹⁷ But on Mount Zion there will be an escape, and it will be holy, and the house of Jacob will take possession of their dispossessors. ¹⁸ And the house of Jacob will be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau stubble; and they will set them on fire and will consume them. And there will not be a survivor for the house of Esau," for Yahweh has spoken. ¹⁹ Those of the Negev will take possession of the mountain of Esau, and those of the Shephelah will possess the land of the Philistines, and they shall take possession of the territory of Ephraim and the territory of Samaria, and Benjamin will take possession of Gilead. ²⁰ And the exiles* of this army of the people of Israel will possess Canaan up to Zarephath, and the exiles* of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will take possession of the cities of the Negev. ²¹ And those who have been saved will go up on Mount Zion to rule the mountain of Esau. And the kingdom _⌊will belong to_⌋* Yahweh.

¹² On that day he will come to you from Assyria and the cities of Egypt, and from Egypt to the River, and from sea to sea and mountain to mountain. ¹³ But the earth will be a desolation because of its inhabitants, for the fruit of their deeds. ¹⁴ Shepherd your people with your staff, the flock of your inheritance, those dwelling alone in a forest in the midst of Carmel. Let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old. ¹⁵ As in the days when you came out from the land of Egypt I will show him wondrous things. ¹⁶ The nations will see and be ashamed because of all their might. They will lay the hand on the mouth; their ears will be deaf.

¹⁴ "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among people _⌊with whom he is pleased_⌋!"*

¹⁸ But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; _⌊I am well supplied_⌋* because* I received from Epaphroditus _⌊what you had sent_⌋*, a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, well-pleasing to God.

¹⁵ but set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts, always ready to make a defense to anyone who asks you for an accounting concerning the hope that is in you.

⁷ And I will give to them a heart to know me, that I am Yahweh, and _⌊they will be my people_⌋,* and _⌊I will be their God_⌋,* for they will return to me with the whole of their heart.

³⁴ And they will no longer teach each one his neighbor, or each one his brother, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'Know Yahweh,' for all of them will know me, from their _⌊smallest_⌋* and up to their _⌊greatest_⌋,"* _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "for I will forgive their iniquity and their sin I will no longer remember."

¹⁷ Therefore say, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "And I will assemble you from the peoples, and I will gather you from the countries to which you were scattered among them, and I will give the land of Israel to you. ¹⁸ And when they come there, then they will remove all of its vile idols and all of its detestable things from it. ¹⁹ And I will give to them one heart, and a new spirit I will give* in their inner parts. And I will remove their* heart of stone from their body, and I will give to them a heart of flesh, ²⁰ so that they may walk in my statutes, and they will keep my regulations, and they will do them, and they will be to me a people, and I myself will be to them as God.

⁴⁴ And you will know that I am Yahweh _⌊when I deal with you_⌋* for the sake of my name and _⌊not according to your evil ways_⌋* or _⌊according to_⌋* your corrupted deeds, house of Israel," _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

²⁴ And Ezekiel will be to you as a sign; _⌊everything that he did_⌋* you shall do; and when it comes you will know that I am the Lord Yahweh.

¹³ And, I will put an end to the noise of your songs, and the sound of your lyres will not be heard any longer.

¹³ And I will bring them out from the peoples, and I will gather them from the countries, and I will bring them to their soil, and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, in the valleys, and in all of the settlements of the land.

²¹ And speak to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "Look! I am taking the _⌊Israelites_⌋* from among _⌊the nations to which they went_⌋,* and I will gather them from _⌊everywhere_⌋,* and I will bring them to their own soil.

³ Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, in order that we may know the one who is true, and we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This one is the true God and eternal life.

³⁹ And because of their guilt, the ones among you who remain shall decay in the land of their enemies; and also because of the iniquities of their ancestors,* they shall decay with them. ⁴⁰ " 'But* when they confess their guilt and the guilt of their ancestors* in their infidelity that they displayed against me, and moreover that they went against me in hostility— ⁴¹ I myself* also* went against them in hostility, and I brought them into the land of their enemies—or if then their uncircumcised heart is humbled and then they pay for their guilt,

⁸ Please, remember the word that you have commanded to your servant Moses, saying, 'If you act unfaithfully I will scatter you all among the nations. ⁹ But if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, even though all of your outcasts are at the furthest parts of heaven, I will gather them and bring them to the place which I have chosen to make my name dwell.' ¹⁰ They are your servants and your people whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.

⁶ Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."

¹⁸ Indeed I heard Ephraim pitying themselves, 'You disciplined me, and I was disciplined, like a calf that is not trained. Bring me back and let me return, for you are Yahweh my God.

⁶¹ And you will remember your ways, and you will be ashamed when you take your sisters, _⌊both the older and the younger_⌋,* and I give them to you as daughters, but not on account of your covenant. ⁶² And I, I will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am Yahweh, ⁶³ in order that you will remember, and you will be ashamed, and _⌊you will not open your mouth again_⌋* _⌊because of_⌋* your disgrace when I forgive you for all that you have done!'" _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh.

³¹ And you will remember your evil ways and your deeds that were not good, and you will loathe _⌊yourself_⌋* over* your iniquities and over your detestable things.
