¹¹ And Haman recounted to them the splendor of his wealth and the number of his sons and all the ways that the king had honored him and promoted him above the officials and king's servants.

¹ Now he* heard the words of the sons of Laban, saying, "Jacob has taken all that our father has," and "From that which was our father's he has gained all this wealth."

⁴ as he displayed the wealth of the glory of his kingdom and the glorious splendor of his greatness for many days, one hundred and eighty days*.

¹ After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and he exalted him and set _⌊his position_⌋* above all the officials who were with him.

⁷ and Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha, ⁸ Portha, Adalia, Aridatha, ⁹ Parmashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vaizatha, ¹⁰ the ten sons of Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews; but they did not _⌊touch_⌋* the plunder.

¹² And the king said to Queen Esther, "In the citadel of Susa the Jews killed and destroyed five hundred men and the ten sons of Haman. What have they done in the rest of the king's provinces? What is your petition? It will be granted to you. And what further is your request? It will be done." ¹³ Esther replied, "If it is good to the king, let tomorrow also be granted to the Jews who are in Susa to do according to the edict of today; and let them hang Haman's ten sons on the gallows."

¹⁴ If their children multiply, it is for the sword, and his offspring _⌊do not have enough to eat_⌋.* ¹⁵ Their* survivors are buried through* the plague, and their* widows do not weep.

²⁴ "If I have made gold my trust, or* I have called fine gold my security, ²⁵ if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great or* because my hand found a fortune,

⁶ those who trust their wealth and boast about the abundance of their riches?

¹⁶ Do not fear when a man becomes rich, when the wealth* of his house increases, ¹⁷ because when he dies he will not take away any of it. His wealth will not follow down after him.

⁸ For he says, "Are not my commanders altogether kings?

²³ Thus says Yahweh,
"The wise man must not boast in his wisdom, and the warrior must not boast in his might, the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth. ²⁴ _⌊But only_⌋* in this must the one who boasts boast, that he has insight, and that he knows me, that I am Yahweh, showing loyal love, justice, and righteousness on the earth, for in these things I delight," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

³⁰ And the king answered and said, "Is this not the great Babylon which I have built as a royal palace by the strength of my own power, and for the glory of my own majesty?"

¹³ Ephraim, as I see it, is like a palm in a meadow; but Ephraim must bring out his children to the slayer. ¹⁴ Give them, O Yahweh— what will you give them? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.

²⁴ And the disciples were astounded at his words. But Jesus answered and* said to them again, "Children, how difficult it is to enter into the kingdom of God!

¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many possessions stored up for many years. Relax, eat, drink, celebrate!" ' ²⁰ But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your life* is demanded from you, and the things which you have prepared—whose will they be?'

¹⁷ Command those who are rich in this present age not to be proud and not to put their hope in the uncertainty of riches, but in God, who provides us all things richly for enjoyment,
