¹ "Now this is the commandment, the rules and the regulations, that Yahweh your God charged to teach to you for you _⌊to observe_⌋* in the land that you are about to cross over into* to take possession of it, ² so that you may revere Yahweh your God by keeping all his statutes and his commandments that I am commanding you, you and your children and _⌊grandchildren_⌋,* all the days of your life and so you may live long* lives. ³ And you shall hear, Israel, and be careful to observe these instructions, so that _⌊it may go well for you_⌋* and that you may multiply greatly, just as Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* _⌊promised_⌋* you, in a land with milk and honey. ⁴ "Hear, Israel, Yahweh our God, Yahweh is unique.* ⁵ And you shall love Yahweh your God with all of your heart* and with all of your soul* and with all of your might. ⁶ And these words that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* shall be on* your heart.* ⁷ And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up. ⁸ And you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as an emblem between your eyes. ⁹ And you shall write them on the doorframe of your house and on your gates. ¹⁰ "And then it will happen that when Yahweh your God will bring you to the land that he swore to your ancestors,* to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to you large and fine cities that you did not build, ¹¹ and houses full of all sorts of good things* that you did not fill, and hewn cisterns that you did not hew, vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant, and _⌊you have eaten your fill_⌋,* ¹² then take care for yourself, so that you do not forget Yahweh, who brought you out from the land of Egypt from the house of slavery. ¹³ "You shall fear Yahweh your God, and you shall serve him, and by his name you shall swear. ¹⁴ You shall not go after other gods from the gods of the peoples who are all around you, ¹⁵ for Yahweh your God is a jealous god in your midst, _⌊so that the anger of Yahweh your God would be kindled_⌋,* and he would destroy you from the face of the earth. ¹⁶ You shall not put Yahweh your God to the test, as you tested him at Massah. ¹⁷ You shall diligently keep the commandments of Yahweh your God and his legal provisions and his rules that he has commanded you. ¹⁸ And you shall do what is right and good in the eyes of Yahweh, so that _⌊it shall go well_⌋* for you and so that you may go and you may take possession of the good land that Yahweh swore for your ancestors,* ¹⁹ by driving out all of your enemies _⌊before you_⌋,* just as Yahweh _⌊has promised_⌋.* ²⁰ "When your child* asks you in the future, _⌊saying_⌋,* 'What is the meaning of the legal provisions and the rules and the regulations that Yahweh our God commanded for you?' ²¹ Then you shall say to your child,* 'We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, and Yahweh brought us out from Egypt with a strong hand. ²² And Yahweh gave great and awesome signs and wonders in Egypt against Pharaoh and against his entire household _⌊in our presence_⌋.* ²³ But he brought us out from there in order to bring us here to give us the land that he swore to our ancestors.* ²⁴ And so Yahweh commanded us to observe all of these rules and to revere Yahweh our God _⌊for our benefit_⌋* _⌊all the days that we live_⌋,* _⌊as it is today_⌋.* ²⁵ And it shall be righteousness for us if we diligently observe and do all of this commandment _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh our God, as he has commanded us.'

³⁴ These are the commands that Yahweh commanded Moses for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* on _⌊Mount Sinai_⌋.*

¹³ These were the commands and the stipulations that Yahweh commanded by the hand of Moses* to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* on the desert-plateaus of Moab by the Jordan across Jericho.

¹ "Now, Israel, listen to the rules and to the regulations that I am teaching you to do, in order that you may live and you may go in and you may take possession of the land that Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* is giving to you.

⁵ See, I now teach* you rules and regulations just as Yahweh my God has commanded me, to observe them just so in the midst of the land where you are going, to take possession of it.

¹⁴ And Yahweh charged me at that time to teach you rules and regulations _⌊for your observation of them_⌋* in the land that you are _⌊about to cross into_⌋* to take possession of it.

⁴⁵ these are the legal provisions and the rules and the regulations that Moses spoke to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* _⌊when they left Egypt_⌋,*

³¹ But you stand here with me, and let me tell you all of the commandments and the rules and the regulations that you shall teach them, so that they may do them in the land that I am giving to them to take possession of it.'

¹ "These are the rules and the regulations _⌊that you must diligently observe_⌋* in the land that Yahweh, the God of your ancestors,* has given to you to take possession of it, during all the days that you are living on the land.

²⁴ " '"And my servant David will be king over them, and one shepherd will be for all of them, and in my regulations they will go, and my statutes they will observe, and they will do them.

¹⁹ For I have chosen* him, that he will command his children and his household after him that they will keep the way of Yahweh, to do righteousness and justice, so that Yahweh may bring upon Abraham that which he said to him."

¹² And he said, "Do not stretch out your hand against the boy; do not do anything to him. For now I know that you are _⌊one who fears_⌋* God, since you have not withheld your son, your only child, from me."

²⁰ And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. God has come to test you so that his fear will be before you so that you do not sin."

¹⁰ Remember the day that you stood _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God at Horeb _⌊when Yahweh said to me_⌋,* 'Summon for me the people so that I can tell them my words, that they may learn to fear me all of the days they are alive on the earth and so that they may teach their children.'

⁴⁰ And you shall keep his rules and his commandments that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* so that _⌊it may go well_⌋* for you and for your children* after you, and so that _⌊you may remain a long time_⌋* on the land that Yahweh your God is giving to you during all of those days."

¹⁶ 'Honor your father and your mother, as Yahweh your God commanded you, so that it will be good for you* _⌊in the land_⌋* that Yahweh your God is giving to you.

³³ _⌊In exactly the path_⌋* that Yahweh your God has commanded, you must go, so that you may live and _⌊it will go well_⌋* for you and _⌊you may live long_⌋* in the land that you will take possession of."

⁷ And you shall recite them to your children, and you shall talk about them at the time of your living in your house and at the time of your going on the road and at the time of your lying down and at the time of your rising up.

¹² And now, Israel, what is Yahweh your God asking* from you, except* to revere Yahweh your God, to go* in all his ways and to love him and to serve Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul,* ¹³ to keep the commandments of Yahweh and his statutes that I am commanding you today _⌊for your own good_⌋.*

²⁰ Yahweh your God, you shall revere him, you shall serve him, and to him you shall cling, and by his name you shall swear.

⁴ You shall go after Yahweh your God, and him you shall revere, and his commandment you shall keep, and to his voice you shall listen, and him you shall serve, and to him you shall hold fast.

⁷ you shall certainly let the mother go, but you may take the young for yourselves;* do this _⌊so that it may go well_⌋* for you and _⌊you may live long in the land_⌋.*

²⁸ And to the human beings he said, 'Look, the fear of the Lord is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding.'"

⁴ We will not hide them from their children,* telling the next generation the praises of Yahweh, and his power and his wonders that he has done. ⁵ For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law* in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors* to teach to their children, ⁶ so that the next generation might know— children yet to be born— that they might rise up and tell their children, ⁷ that they might set their confidence in God, and not forget the deeds of God, but keep his commandments, ⁸ and not be like their ancestors,* a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not make ready its heart, whose spirit was not faithful to God.

¹⁰ The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom; all who do them* have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.

¹ A song of ascents.*
Blessed is everyone who fears Yahweh, who walks in his ways.

¹ My child, do not forget my instruction, and may your heart guard my commands. ² For length of days, years of life, and peace they* shall add to you.

¹⁶ Length of days is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.

⁶ By loyalty and faithfulness, iniquity will be covered over,* and by fear of Yahweh _⌊one turns_⌋* from evil.

¹³ Now that all has been heard, here is the final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

⁵ But I will show you whom you should fear: fear the one who has authority, after the killing, to throw you* into hell! Yes, I tell you, fear this one!

¹⁷ And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one's work, conduct yourselves with fear during the time of your temporary residence,

¹⁰ For
"The one who wants to love life and see good days must keep his* tongue from evil and his lips must not speak deceit. ¹¹ And he must turn away from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it.

² And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great. And you will be a blessing.

¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted.

⁵ And he brought him outside and said, "Look toward the heavens and count the stars if you are able to count them." And he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."

¹⁷ that I will certainly bless you and greatly multiply your offspring as the stars of heaven, and as the sand that is by the shore of the sea. And your offspring will take possession of the gate of his enemies.

⁴ And I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and I will give to your descendants all these lands. And all nations of the earth will be blessed through your offspring,

¹⁴ Your descendants shall be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and through your descendants.

⁷ And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* were fruitful and multiplied and were many and were very, very numerous, and the land was filled with them.

⁸ And I have come down to deliver them from the hand of the Egyptians and to bring them up from this land to a good and wide land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Perizzites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites.*

⁶ And _⌊you must observe them diligently_⌋,* for that is your wisdom and your insight before the eyes of the people, who will hear all of these rules, and they will say, 'Surely this great nation is a wise and discerning people.'

³² "So you must be careful to do just as Yahweh your God commanded you; you shall not turn to the right or to the left. ³³ _⌊In exactly the path_⌋* that Yahweh your God has commanded, you must go, so that you may live and _⌊it will go well_⌋* for you and _⌊you may live long_⌋* in the land that you will take possession of."

¹² Although the sinner does evil a hundred times and prolongs his life, yet I also know that it will be good for those who fear God—because they fear _⌊his presence_⌋.*

¹⁰ Tell the innocent* that it is good for they shall eat the fruit of their deeds.

¹⁷ "But as the time of the promise that God had made to Abraham was drawing near, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt

³⁵ You yourselves* were shown this wonder in order for you to acknowledge that Yahweh is the God;* there is no other God _⌊besides him_⌋.* ³⁶ From heaven he made you hear his voice to teach you, and on the earth he showed you his great fire, and you heard his words from the midst of the fire.

⁶ 'I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

²¹ Elijah approached to all the people and said, "How long will you go limping over two opinions? If Yahweh is God, go after him; but if Baal, go after him." But the people did not answer him a word.

⁵ So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah,

¹⁰ Then David blessed Yahweh in the sight of all the assembly, and David said, "Blessed are you, O Yahweh, God of Israel, our father forever and ever!

⁸ I am Yahweh; that is my name,
and I do not give my glory to another, nor* my praise to the idols.

⁶ Thus says Yahweh, the king of Israel, and its redeemer, Yahweh of hosts: "I am the first, and I am the last, and there is no god besides me.

⁸ You must not tremble,* and you must not be paralyzed with fear. Have I not made you hear from of old* and declared it, and you are my witnesses? Is there a god besides me? And there is no rock! I know none!"

⁵ I am Yahweh, and there is none besides me; besides me there is no god. I gird you though* you do not know me, ⁶ so that they may know from the rising of the sun and from the west that there is none besides me; I am Yahweh and there is none besides me.

¹⁰ But Yahweh is the true God, he is the living God, and _⌊an everlasting king_⌋.* Because of his wrath the earth quakes, and the nations cannot endure his anger. ¹¹ "_⌊Thus_⌋* you shall say to them,
'Gods who did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under these heavens.

²⁹ Jesus answered, "The most important is, 'Listen, Israel! The Lord our God, the Lord is one. ³⁰ And you shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart and from your whole soul and from your whole mind and from your whole strength.'* ³¹ The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'* There is no other commandment greater than these." ³² And the scribe said to him, "That is true, Teacher. You have said _⌊correctly_⌋* that he is one and there is no other except him.

³⁰ The Father and I are one."

³ Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

⁴ Therefore, concerning the eating of food sacrificed to idols, we know that "an idol is nothing in the world" and that "there is no God except one."* ⁵ For even if after all there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many gods and many lords, ⁶ yet to us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things, and we are for him, and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we are through him.

⁵ For there is one God and one mediator between God and human beings, the man Christ Jesus,

²⁹ But from there you shall seek Yahweh your God and will find him, if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.*

¹² And now, Israel, what is Yahweh your God asking* from you, except* to revere Yahweh your God, to go* in all his ways and to love him and to serve Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul,*

¹³ "And it will happen that if you listen carefully to my commandments that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* to love Yahweh your God, and to serve him with all of your heart and with all of your soul,*

⁶ "And Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your offspring to love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your inner self* _⌊so that you may live_⌋.*

²⁵ There was not a king like him before him, who turned to Yahweh with all of his heart and with all of his soul and with all of his might according to the law* of Moses, nor did one arise like him afterwards.

³⁷ The one who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and the one who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

³⁷ And he said to him, " 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'*

³⁰ And you shall love the Lord your God from your whole heart and from your whole soul and from your whole mind and from your whole strength.'*

³³ And to love him from your* whole heart and from your* whole understanding and from your* whole strength, and to love your* neighbor as yourself, is much more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."

²⁷ And he answered and* said, "You shall love the Lord your God from all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind,* and your neighbor as yourself."*

²⁰ On that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. ²¹ The one who has my commandments and keeps them—that one is the one who loves me. And the one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him."

¹⁴ For the love of Christ controls us, because we* have concluded this: that one died for all; as a result all died. ¹⁵ And he died for all, in order that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the one who died for them and was raised.

³ For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome,

¹⁸ "And you shall put these, my words, on your heart and on your inner self,* and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand and let them be as an emblem between your eyes.

⁴⁶ then he said to them, "_⌊Take to heart all the words_⌋* that I am admonishing against you _⌊today_⌋* concerning which you should instruct them with respect to your children* _⌊so that they will observe diligently_⌋* all the words of this law,

³¹ The law of his God is in his heart. His steps will not slip.

⁸ 'I delight to do your will, O my God, and your law is _⌊deep within me_⌋.'"*

¹¹ In my heart I have hidden your word,* so that I may not sin against you.

⁹⁸ Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, because they* are ever with me.

¹⁰ for wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasing to your soul.* ¹¹ Discretion will watch over you; understanding will protect you,

¹ My child, do not forget my instruction, and may your heart guard my commands. ² For length of days, years of life, and peace they* shall add to you. ³ May loyal love* and truth not forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them upon your heart.

⁵ _⌊Trust Yahweh_⌋* with all your heart; do not lean toward your own understanding.

³ Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.

⁷ Listen to me, you who know righteousness, people who have my teaching in their heart; you must not fear the reproach of men, or be terrified because of their abuse.

³³ "But this is the covenant that I will _⌊make_⌋* with the house of Israel after those days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh: "I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts* I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people.

⁵¹ And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was submitting to them. And his mother treasured all these things in her heart.

¹⁵ But the seed on the good soil—these are the ones who, after* hearing the word, hold fast to it* with a noble and good heart, and bear fruit with patient endurance.

³ revealing that you are a letter of Christ, delivered by us, inscribed not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets but on tablets of human hearts.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another with all wisdom, with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God,

² because of the truth that resides in us and will be with us _⌊forever_⌋*.

²⁶ _⌊And_⌋* when your children say to you, 'What is this _⌊religious custom_⌋* for you?'* ²⁷ you will say, 'It is a Passover sacrifice for Yahweh, who passed over the houses of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in Egypt when he struck Egypt; and he delivered our houses.'" And the people knelt down and they worshiped.

¹⁴ And when your son asks you _⌊in the future_⌋,* saying, 'What is this?' you will say to him, 'With strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt, from a house of slaves. ¹⁵ And when Pharaoh was stubborn to release us, Yahweh killed every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from firstborn human to firstborn domestic animal. Therefore I am sacrificing to Yahweh every first offspring of a womb, the males, and every firstborn of my sons I redeem.'

⁹ "However, _⌊take care_⌋* for yourself and watch your inner self* closely, so that you do not forget the things that your eyes have seen, so that they do not slip from your mind all the days of your life; and you shall make them known to your children and to _⌊your grandchildren_⌋.* ¹⁰ Remember the day that you stood _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God at Horeb _⌊when Yahweh said to me_⌋,* 'Summon for me the people so that I can tell them my words, that they may learn to fear me all of the days they are alive on the earth and so that they may teach their children.'

² so that you may revere Yahweh your God by keeping all his statutes and his commandments that I am commanding you, you and your children and _⌊grandchildren_⌋,* all the days of your life and so you may live long* lives.

¹⁹ And you shall teach them to your children* by talking about them when you sit in your house and when you travel on the road and when you lie down and when you get up.

⁴ And look, Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, "May Yahweh be with you." And they said to him, "May Yahweh bless you."

¹² May Yahweh reward your work and may a full reward be given to you from Yahweh, the God of Israel, under whose wings you came to take refuge."

¹¹ And all of the people who were at the gate and the elders said, "We are witnesses. May Yahweh make the woman coming into your house as Rachel and as Leah, who _⌊together_⌋* built the house of Israel. May you have strength in Ephrathah and bestow a name in Bethlehem.

³⁰ The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.

⁹ I have brought good tidings of righteousness in the great congregation. Look, I have not shut my lips. O Yahweh, _⌊you surely know that_⌋.* ¹⁰ Your righteousness I have not hidden in the midst of my heart. I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not concealed your loyal love or your faithfulness from the great congregation.

⁴ We will not hide them from their children,* telling the next generation the praises of Yahweh, and his power and his wonders that he has done. ⁵ For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a law* in Israel, which he commanded our ancestors* to teach to their children, ⁶ so that the next generation might know— children yet to be born— that they might rise up and tell their children,

⁴⁶ And I will speak of your testimonies before kings, and will not be ashamed.

⁸ so that passersby do not say, "The blessing of Yahweh be upon you. We bless you in the name of Yahweh."

²² _⌊When you walk_⌋,* she* will lead you, _⌊When you lie down_⌋,* she will watch over you, and when you awake, she will converse with you.

²¹ Lips of righteousness feed many, but fools _⌊die for lack of sense_⌋.*

² The tongue of the wise will dispense knowledge, but the mouth of fools will pour out folly.

⁷ The lips of the wise will spread knowledge, but the heart* of fools, not so.

¹⁶ Then those who revered* Yahweh spoke _⌊with one another_⌋.* And Yahweh listened attentively* and heard, and a scroll of remembrance was written _⌊before him_⌋* of those who revere* Yahweh and ponder his name.

³⁵ The good person from his* good treasury brings out good things, and the evil person from his* evil treasury brings out evil things.

⁴⁵ The good person out of the good treasury of his heart brings forth good, and the evil person out of his* evil treasury* brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

²⁹ _⌊No rotten word must proceed_⌋* from your mouth, but only something good for the building up of the need, in order that it may give grace to those who hear,

⁴ And fathers, do not make your children angry, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

⁶ Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how it is necessary for you to answer each one.

¹⁵ but set Christ apart as Lord in your hearts, always ready to make a defense to anyone who asks you for an accounting concerning the hope that is in you.

⁹ And it will be as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes so that the law of Yahweh will be in your mouth, that with a strong hand Yahweh brought you out from Egypt.

¹⁶ And it will be as a sign on your hand and as symbolic ornaments between your eyes that with strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt."

³⁸ "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and tell them to make for themselves tassels* on the hems of their garments throughout their generations* and to put a blue cord on the tassel of the hem. ³⁹ You will have a tassel _⌊for you to look at_⌋* and remember all the commands of Yahweh and do them, and not follow _⌊after the unfaithfulness of your own heart and eyes_⌋,*

³ May loyal love* and truth not forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them upon your heart.

²¹ Bind them on your heart continually; tie them upon your neck.

⁵ And they do all their deeds in order to be seen by people, for they make their phylacteries broad and make their* tassels long.

¹ Because of this, it is all the more necessary that we pay attention to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.

⁷ And they will take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel on the houses in which they eat it.

²⁰ And you shall write them on the doorframes of your house and on your gates,

²³ "_⌊O that_⌋* my words could be written down! _⌊O that they could be inscribed in a scroll_⌋!* ²⁴ That with a pen of iron and with lead they might be engraved on a rock forever! ²⁵ But* I myself* know that my redeemer is alive, and at the last he will stand up upon _⌊the earth_⌋.*

⁸ Now go, write it on a tablet with them, and inscribe it on a scroll, _⌊that_⌋* it may be _⌊for the time to come_⌋,* forever, forever.

⁸ And you have set your symbol behind the door and the doorpost; for you depart* from me, and you go up; you make your bed wide, and you _⌊make a deal with_⌋* them, you have loved their bed; you have seen their _⌊genitals_⌋.*

² Then Yahweh answered me and said, "Write the vision and make it plain on the tablet so that _⌊it might be read quickly_⌋.*

¹⁵ for all the land which you see I will give to you, and to your descendants, forever. ¹⁶ I will make your descendants like the dust of the earth which, if anyone were able to count the dust of the earth, your descendants would be so counted. ¹⁷ Arise, go through the length of the land and through its breadth, for I will give it to you."

¹⁸ On that day Yahweh _⌊made_⌋* a covenant with Abram saying, "To your offspring I will give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates river,

³ Dwell as an alien in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you, for I will give all these lands to you and to your descendants, and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham you father.

¹³ And behold, Yahweh was standing beside him,* and he said, "I am Yahweh, the God of Abraham your father, and the God of Isaac. The ground on which you were sleeping I will give to you and to your descendants.

¹³ I gave to you a land that you have not labored on, and cities that you have not built, and you live* in them; you eat from vineyards and olive groves that you have not planted.'

²⁵ And they captured fortified cities and a fertile land and took possession of houses filled with every good thing: hewn cisterns, vineyards, olive groves, and many fruit trees. They ate and became full, and they became fat and took delight in your great goodness.

⁵⁵ And he drove out nations before them and allocated them for an inheritance by boundary line, and settled the tribes of Israel in their tents.

⁴⁴ And he gave to them the lands of the nations, and they inherited the labor of the peoples,

¹² "_⌊And then_⌋* because you listen to these regulations and you diligently keep and you do them, then Yahweh your God will maintain his* covenant and his* loyal love that he swore to your ancestors.* ¹³ And he will love you, and he will bless you, and he will multiply you, and he will bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your soil, your grain, your wine, and your olive oil, and newborn calves of your cattle, and the newborn lambs* of your flocks in the land that he swore to your ancestors* to give you. ¹⁴ You shall be blessed more than all of the peoples; among you there shall not be sterility and bareness, even* among domestic animals.* ¹⁵ And Yahweh will turn away from you all the illness and all the harmful diseases of Egypt that you experienced; he will not lay them on you, but he will lay them on all of those who hate you. ¹⁶ And you shall devour all of the peoples that Yahweh your God is giving to you; _⌊you shall not pity them_⌋,* and you shall not serve their gods, which will be a snare for you. ¹⁷ "If you think in your heart, 'These nations are more numerous than I, so how can I dispossess them?' ¹⁸ then remember you must not be afraid of them; you must well remember what Yahweh your God did to Pharaoh and to all of Egypt:

¹⁰ And you will eat, and _⌊you will be satisfied_⌋,* and you will bless Yahweh your God because of the good land that he has given to you. ¹¹ "Take care for yourself so that you not forget Yahweh your God by not keeping his commandments and his regulations and his statutes that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,* ¹² lest when you have eaten and you are satisfied and you have built good houses and you live in them, ¹³ and your herds and your flocks have multiplied, and _⌊you have accumulated silver and gold_⌋,* and all that _⌊you have_⌋* has multiplied, ¹⁴ then your heart _⌊becomes proud_⌋* and you forget Yahweh your God, _⌊the one who brought you out_⌋* from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, ¹⁵ the one leading you in the great and terrible desert infested with _⌊dangerous_⌋* snakes* and scorpions* and parched ground, where there is* no water, and the one bringing out water for you from flint rock, ¹⁶ the one _⌊feeding you_⌋* manna in the desert, food that your ancestors* did not know, in order to humble you and in order to test you so that he could do good to you _⌊in the future_⌋.* ¹⁷ And you may think* in your heart, 'My strength and the might of my hand _⌊acquired this wealth for_⌋* me.' ¹⁸ But you must remember Yahweh your God, for he is the one giving you strength to acquire wealth in order to confirm his covenant that he swore to your ancestors* _⌊as it is today_⌋.* ¹⁹ And it will happen that if you indeed forget Yahweh your God and you go after other gods and you serve them and you bow down before them, I warn you today that you will surely perish. ²⁰ As with the nations that Yahweh is destroying _⌊before you_⌋,* so you shall perish because you would not obey the voice of Yahweh your God.

¹⁵ And Jeshurun grew fat, and he kicked; you grew fat, you bloated, and you became obstinate; and he abandoned God, his maker, and he scoffed at the rock of his salvation.

⁷ The _⌊Israelites_⌋* did evil in the eyes of Yahweh. They forgot Yahweh their God, and they served the Baals and the Asheroth.*

⁸ Keep falsehood and a _⌊lying word_⌋* far from me; do not give me poverty or wealth; provide me with food only for my need. ⁹ Or else I will be satisfied and will deny him and say "Who is Yahweh?" Or* I will be poor and will steal and profane the name of my God.

³¹ O generation, you see the word of Yahweh. Have I been a desert* to Israel? Or a land of great darkness? Why do my people say, 'We roam about freely, we will not come again to you'? ³² Can a young woman forget her ornaments?* Or a bride her sashes? Yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

¹⁰ And I clothed you with beautiful finished cloth, and I put sandals on you of fine leather, and I bound you in fine linen, and I covered you with costly fabric. ¹¹ And I adorned you with ornaments,* and I put a bracelet on your arms and a necklace on your neck. ¹² And I put an ornamental ring on your nose and earrings on your ears and a _⌊beautiful crown_⌋* on your head. ¹³ And you adorned yourself with gold and silver, and your clothing was fine linen and costly fabric and beautiful finished cloth; you ate finely milled flour and honey and olive oil, and you became exceedingly beautiful; _⌊you were fit to be a queen_⌋.* ¹⁴ And a name went out for you among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect because of my majesty that I bestowed on you,' _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. ¹⁵ 'And you trusted in your beauty, and you prostituted on account of your name, and you poured out your fornication on every one passing by, saying, "Let it be his." ¹⁶ And you took from your clothes and you made for yourself colorful* shrines, and you prostituted on them; _⌊this had not happened before_⌋,* and it _⌊will not continue to happen_⌋.* ¹⁷ And you took _⌊your beautiful jewelry_⌋* made from my gold and from my silver that I had given to you, and you made for yourself _⌊male images_⌋,* and you prostituted with them. ¹⁸ And you took the clothes of your beautiful finished cloth, and you covered them and my oil and my incense you set _⌊before them_⌋.* ¹⁹ And my bread that I gave to you, finely milled flour and oil and honey with which I fed you, then you set it _⌊before them_⌋* as a _⌊pleasing odor_⌋,* and so it was,' _⌊declares_⌋* the Lord Yahweh. ²⁰ 'And you took your sons and your daughters whom you had borne for me, and you sacrificed them to them to be eaten,* _⌊as if your whorings were not enough_⌋.*

²³ And Jesus said to his disciples, "Truly I say to you that with difficulty a rich person will enter into the kingdom of heaven! ²⁴ And again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich person into* the kingdom of God."

¹² and you* shall not swear _⌊falsely_⌋* in my name, and so one of you* profane* the name of your* God; I am Yahweh.

²⁹ _⌊If only_⌋* _⌊they had such a mind_⌋';* that is, to fear me and to keep all my commandments _⌊at all times_⌋,* so that _⌊it will go well_⌋* for them and for their children _⌊forever_⌋.*

¹² So then please swear to me by Yahweh, because _⌊I have shown loyalty to you_⌋,* and _⌊you will also show loyalty_⌋* _⌊to my family_⌋.* You must give me a sign of good faith,*

⁴ In his eyes a rejected one is contemptible, but he honors those who respect Yahweh. He takes an oath to his own injury and does not retract it.

¹¹ However, the king will rejoice in God. Everyone who swears an oath by him will boast, because the mouth of the liars will be stopped.

²³ I have sworn by myself; a word that* shall not return has gone forth from my mouth in righteousness: 'Every knee shall kneel down to me; every tongue shall swear.'

¹⁶ Whoever blesses himself in the land shall bless himself by the God of trustworthiness, and the one who swears an oath in the land shall swear by the God of trustworthiness, because the former troubles are forgotten, and they are hidden from my eyes.

² and you swear, '_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,'* in truth, in justice, and in righteousness, then nations will be blessed by him, and in him they will boast."

² And though they say, '_⌊As Yahweh lives_⌋,'* _⌊therefore_⌋* they swear falsely."

⁷ "_⌊How_⌋* can I forgive you? Your children have forsaken me, and they have sworn by those who are not gods. But I fed them to the full, and they committed adultery, and flocked to the house of a prostitute.

¹⁶ _⌊And then_⌋,* if they diligently learn the ways of my people, to swear by my name, '_⌊as Yahweh lives_⌋,'* even as they taught my people to swear by Baal, then they will live in the midst of my people.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan, for it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God and serve only him.'"*

⁸ And Jesus answered and* said to him, "It is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and serve only him.'"*

¹⁴ For you will not bow in worship to another god, for 'Yahweh Is Jealous' is his name, he is a jealous God, ¹⁵ lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they prostitute themselves after their gods, and they sacrifice to their gods, and they invite you, and you eat their sacrifice, ¹⁶ and you take from their daughters for your sons, and their daughters prostitute themselves after their gods, and they cause your sons to prostitute themselves after their gods.

¹⁹ And it will happen that if you indeed forget Yahweh your God and you go after other gods and you serve them and you bow down before them, I warn you today that you will surely perish.

²⁸ and the curse, if you do not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, but rather you turn from the way that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋* to go after other gods that you have not known.

⁷ from among the gods of the people who are around you, _⌊those near you or those far from you_⌋,* from one end of the earth and up to the other end of the earth,

⁶ and you must not go after other gods to serve them, and to bow in worship to them, and you must not provoke me to anger with the work of your hands, then I will not do something bad to you.'

²¹ Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

⁴ For _⌊within seven days_⌋* I will send rain upon the earth for forty days and forty nights. And I will blot out all the living creatures that I have made from upon the face of the ground."

⁵ You will not bow down to them, and you will not serve them, because I am Yahweh your God, a jealous God, punishing the guilt of the parents on the children on the third and on the fourth generations* of those hating me,

¹² Why should the Egyptians _⌊say_⌋*, 'With evil intent he brought them out to kill them in the mountains and wipe them from the face of the earth'?* Turn from _⌊your fierce anger_⌋* and relent concerning the disaster for your people.

¹⁰ So _⌊Yahweh's anger burned_⌋* on that day, and he swore an oath, saying, ¹¹ 'The men who went up from Egypt, from _⌊those twenty years old_⌋* and above, will not see the land that I swore with an oath to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob because they have not wholly followed me, ¹² except Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, because they followed Yahweh wholly.' ¹³ And _⌊Yahweh became angry_⌋,* and he made them wander in the desert forty years until the entire generation who did evil in the _⌊sight of Yahweh_⌋* _⌊had died_⌋.* ¹⁴ Behold, you stand in the place of your fathers, a brood of sinful men, to increase still more _⌊Yahweh's fierce anger_⌋* against Israel. ¹⁵ If you turn from following him, he will again abandon them* in the wilderness, and you would have destroyed all these people."

²⁴ for Yahweh your God is a devouring fire, a jealous* God.

⁹ 'You shall not bow down to them, and you shall not serve them, for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, punishing the guilt of fathers upon their children and upon the third and upon the fourth generation of those hating me,

⁴ For their* sons and daughters will cause your son* to turn away _⌊from following me_⌋,* and so they will serve other gods, and _⌊the anger of Yahweh would be kindled_⌋* against you, and he would quickly destroy you.

¹⁷ And then _⌊the anger of Yahweh will be kindled against you_⌋,* and he will shut up the heavens,* and there shall not be rain, and so the ground will not give its produce, and you will perish quickly from the good land that Yahweh is giving to you.

³⁴ This matter became sin in the house of Jeroboam, to make it disappear and to destroy it from the surface of the earth.

¹⁶ But they were mocking the messengers of God and despising his words and scoffing at his prophets until the wrath of Yahweh rose against his people until there was no remedy.

⁷ For we are brought to an end by your anger, and we hasten off* by your wrath.

¹¹ Who knows the strength of your anger, and your rage consistent with* the fear due you?

² "You only have I _⌊chosen_⌋* of all the clans of the earth. Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

⁸ Look, the eyes of my Lord Yahweh are on the kingdom of sin, and I will destroy it from the surface of the earth. However, I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

²² Or are we attempting to provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than he is, are we?*

² And the people quarreled with Moses, and they said, "Give us water so that we can drink." And Moses said to them, "Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?"

⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah because of the quarrel of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* and because of their testing Yahweh by saying, "Is Yahweh in our midst or not?"

³ And the people quarreled with Moses and spoke, saying, "If only we died when our brothers were dying _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh! ⁴ Why have you brought the assembly of Yahweh, us and our livestock, into this desert to die here?

¹³ Those were the waters of Meribah, where the _⌊Israelites_⌋* quarreled with Yahweh, and he showed himself holy among them.

⁴ They set out from Mount Hor by the way of the _⌊Red Sea_⌋* to go around the land of Edom; but _⌊the people became impatient_⌋* along the way. ⁵ The people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us from Egypt to die in the desert? There is no food and no water, and our hearts detest this miserable food."

⁸ "Do not harden your heart as at Meribah, as in the day of Massah in the wilderness, ⁹ when your ancestors* tried me. They put me to the test, even though they had seen my work.

⁷ Jesus said to him, "On the other hand it is written, 'You are not to put the Lord your God to the test.'"*

¹² And Jesus answered and* said to him, "It is said, 'You are not to put to the test the Lord your God.'"*

⁹ nor put Christ to the test, as some of them tested him, and were destroyed by snakes,

⁸ do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness, ⁹ where your fathers tested me by trial and saw my works

²⁶ And he said, "If you carefully listen to the voice of Yahweh your God and you do what is right in his eyes and give heed to his commands and you keep all his rules, then I will not bring about on you any of the diseases* that I brought about on Egypt, because I am Yahweh your healer.

¹ "Now this is the commandment, the rules and the regulations, that Yahweh your God charged to teach to you for you _⌊to observe_⌋* in the land that you are about to cross over into* to take possession of it, ² so that you may revere Yahweh your God by keeping all his statutes and his commandments that I am commanding you, you and your children and _⌊grandchildren_⌋,* all the days of your life and so you may live long* lives.

²² Yes, if you diligently keep all* this commandment that I am commanding you _⌊to observe it_⌋, * by loving Yahweh your God _⌊by walking in_⌋* all his ways and by holding fast to him,

⁴ You have commanded* your precepts, that we should keep them diligently.

⁵⁸ So then, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, because you* know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

⁸ The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist concerning these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and beneficial for people.

¹¹ And we desire each one of you to demonstrate the same diligence for the full assurance of your hope until the end,

⁵ and for this same reason, and by* applying all diligence, supply with your faith excellence of character, and with excellence of character, knowledge, ⁶ and with knowledge, self-control, and with self-control, patient endurance, and with patient endurance, godliness, ⁷ and with godliness, brotherly love, and with brotherly love, love. ⁸ For if* these things are yours and are increasing, this does not make you useless or unproductive in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. ⁹ For the one for whom these things are not present is blind, being nearsighted, _⌊having forgotten the cleansing_⌋* of his former sins. ¹⁰ Therefore, brothers, be zealous even more to make your calling and election secure, because if you* do these things, you will never ever stumble.

¹⁴ Therefore, dear friends, because you* are waiting for these things, make every effort to be found at peace, spotless and unblemished in him.

¹¹ "Take care for yourself so that you not forget Yahweh your God by not keeping his commandments and his regulations and his statutes that I am commanding you _⌊today_⌋,*

²⁵ You shall not eat it, so that _⌊it will go well_⌋* for you and your children after you, because then you will be doing what is* right in the eyes of Yahweh.

²⁸ _⌊Be careful to obey_⌋* all these things that I am commanding you, so that _⌊it will go well_⌋* for you and for your children after you _⌊forever_⌋,* because then you will be doing what is* good and right* in the eyes of Yahweh your God.

¹⁸ if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, to keep all of his commandments that I am commanding to you _⌊today_⌋* so as to do the right thing in the eyes of Yahweh your God."

¹¹ Moreover, your servant is warned* by them; in keeping them is great reward.

⁵ And if a man is righteous and does justice and righteousness,

¹⁹ "Yet* you say, 'Why does the son not bear the guilt of the father?' And since the son does justice and righteousness and he keeps all of my statutes and does them, he shall surely live!

²¹ But if the wicked returns from all of his sins* that he has done and he keeps all of my statutes and he does justice and righteousness, he shall surely live; he shall not die!

²⁷ And when the wicked turns from his wickedness that he did and he does justice and righteousness, _⌊he will preserve his life_⌋.*

¹⁴ And when I say to the wicked, 'Certainly you will die,' but* he returns from his sin and he does justice and righteousness—

¹⁶ All of his _⌊sins that he committed_⌋,* they will not be remembered against* him, and he did justice and righteousness; certainly he will live.

¹⁹ And when the wicked turns from his wickedness, and he does justice and righteousness, because of it* _⌊he will certainly live_⌋!*

⁹ Who is wise that he can understand these things? Who is discerning that he knows them? The ways of Yahweh are right, and the righteous walk in them; but transgressors stumble in them.

²⁹ And the one who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, because I always do the things that are pleasing to him."

² And do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, so that you may approve what is the good and well-pleasing and perfect will of God.

²⁸ And I will send the hornet before you, and it will drive out the Hivites,* the Canaanites,* and the Hittites* from before you. ²⁹ I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become a desolation and _⌊the wild animals_⌋* multiply against you. ³⁰ Little by little I will drive them out from before you until you are fruitful and take possession of the land.

⁵² you will drive out the inhabitants of the land from your presence, and you will destroy all their idols and all the images of their molten idols, and you will demolish all their high places; ⁵³ you will dispossess the land and live in it because I have given the land to you to possess it.

¹ And the angel of Yahweh went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, "I brought you up from Egypt, and I brought you to the land that I had promised to your ancestors.* I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you. ² And as for you, do not _⌊make a covenant_⌋* with the inhabitants of this land; break down their altars.' But you did not listen to my voice. _⌊Why would you do such a thing_⌋?* ³ Now I say, I will not drive them out from before you; they will _⌊become as thorns_⌋* for you, and their gods will be a trap for you."

¹ These are the nations that Yahweh left, to test Israel by them (that is, to test all those who _⌊had not experienced_⌋* any of the wars of Canaan, ² in order that the generations of Israel would know war, to teach those _⌊who had not experienced it_⌋* before): ³ the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites,* the Sidonians,* and the Hivites* living on Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal Hermon up to Lebo-Hamath. ⁴ They were left for testing Israel, to know whether they would keep the commands of Yahweh that he commanded their ancestors* through the hand of Moses.

²⁶ _⌊And_⌋* when your children say to you, 'What is this _⌊religious custom_⌋* for you?'*

¹⁴ And when your son asks you _⌊in the future_⌋,* saying, 'What is this?' you will say to him, 'With strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt, from a house of slaves.

⁶ so that this may be a reminder* among you. When your children ask in the future, saying, '_⌊What do these stones mean to you_⌋?'* ⁷ you will say to them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off _⌊from before_⌋* the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones will be as a memorial for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* for eternity."

²¹ And he said to the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* "When your children ask in the future _⌊their parents_⌋,* '_⌊What is the meaning of these stones_⌋?'* ²² you will let your children know by saying, 'Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.' ²³ For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you, until you had crossed, just as Yahweh your God did to the _⌊Red Sea_⌋,* which he dried up before us until we had crossed over, ²⁴ so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of Yahweh is strong, so that you may fear Yahweh your God _⌊forever_⌋."*

⁶ Train the child _⌊concerning his way_⌋;* even when he is old, he will not stray from it.

¹⁹ But I myself know that the king of Egypt will not allow you to go _⌊unless compelled by a strong hand_⌋.*

³ And Moses said to the people, "Remember this day when you went out from Egypt, from a house of slaves, because with strength of hand Yahweh brought you out from here, and food with yeast will not be eaten.

² "I am Yahweh, your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.

¹⁵ And you shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God brought you out with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm; therefore, Yahweh your God commanded you to keep _⌊the Sabbath_⌋.*

¹⁵ And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you; therefore I am commanding you thus _⌊today_⌋.*

⁵ And _⌊you shall declare_⌋* and you shall say _⌊before_⌋* your God, 'My ancestor* was a wandering Aramean, and he went down to Egypt, and there he dwelt as an alien _⌊few in number_⌋,* and there he became a great nation, mighty and numerous. ⁶ And the Egyptians treated us badly, and they oppressed us and imposed on us hard labor. ⁷ And we cried to Yahweh, the God of our ancestors,* and Yahweh heard our voice and saw our affliction and our toil and our oppression. ⁸ And Yahweh brought us out from Egypt with a strong hand and an outstretched arm and with great terror and with signs and with wonders. ⁹ And he brought us to this place and gave to us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁹ "You saw the misery of our ancestors* in Egypt, and you heard their shout at the Red Sea. ¹⁰ You gave signs and wonders against Pharaoh, all of his servants, and all of the people of his land because you knew that they acted arrogantly against them. You made a name for yourself, as it is this day.

¹⁰ To him who struck Egypt through their firstborn, for his loyal love endures forever. ¹¹ And he brought Israel out from among them, for his loyal love endures forever. ¹² With a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his loyal love endures forever.

¹ "Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness, who seek Yahweh. Look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the excavation of the pit from which you were quarried.

²⁰ who accomplished signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, up to this day, and in Israel, and among humankind, and you have made for yourself a name, as it is this day. ²¹ And you brought out your people Israel from the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, and with a strong hand, and with an arm stretched out, and with great terror.

¹⁷ But thanks be to God that you were slaves of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart the pattern of teaching to which you were entrusted, ¹⁸ and having been set free from sin, you became enslaved to righteousness.

¹¹ Therefore remember that formerly you, the Gentiles in the flesh, the so-called uncircumcision by the so-called circumcision in the flesh, made by hands, ¹² that you were at that time apart from Christ, alienated from the citizenship of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, not having hope, and without God in the world.

¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "See, I have made you as a god to Pharaoh, and Aaron your brother will be your prophet. ² You will speak all that I will command you, and Aaron your brother will speak to Pharaoh, and he will release the _⌊Israelites_⌋* from his land. ³ And I myself will harden the heart of Pharaoh, and I will make my signs and my wonders numerous in the land of Egypt. ⁴ And Pharaoh will not listen to you, and I will put my hand into Egypt and bring out my divisions, my people, the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* from the land of Egypt with great punishments. ⁵ And the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I stretch out my hand over Egypt and bring the _⌊Israelites_⌋* out from their midst." ⁶ And Moses and Aaron did it; as Yahweh commanded them, so they did. ⁷ (And Moses was _⌊eighty years old_⌋,* and Aaron was _⌊eighty-three years old_⌋* when they spoke to Pharaoh.) ⁸ And Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ⁹ "When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, 'Do a wonder for yourselves,' you will say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it before Pharaoh, and it will become a snake.'" ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron came to Pharaoh, and they did so, as Yahweh had commanded. And Aaron threw his staff before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a snake. ¹¹ And Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers, and they also, the magicians of Egypt, did likewise with their secret arts. ¹² Each threw down his staff, and they became snakes, and Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.

¹ And Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, ² "Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* so that they turn and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol _⌊and the sea_⌋;* before Baal Zephon, which is opposite it, you will camp by the sea. ³ And Pharaoh will say of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* 'They are wandering around in the land. The desert has closed in on them.' ⁴ And I will harden the heart of Pharaoh, and he will chase after them, and I will be glorified through Pharaoh and through all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh." And they did so. ⁵ And it was told to the king of Egypt that the people fled, and the heart of Pharaoh was changed and that of his servants toward the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have released Israel from serving us!" ⁶ And he harnessed his chariot and took with him his people. ⁷ And he took six hundred select chariots and all the chariots of Egypt and officers over all of them. ⁸ And Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and he chased after the _⌊Israelites_⌋.* (Now the _⌊Israelites_⌋* were going out _⌊boldly_⌋.*) ⁹ And the Egyptians chased after them, and they overtook them encamped at the sea—all the horses of the chariots of Pharaoh and his charioteers and his army—at Pi-hahiroth before Baal Zephon. ¹⁰ And Pharaoh approached, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* lifted their eyes, and there were the Egyptians traveling after them! And they were very afraid, and the _⌊Israelites_⌋* cried out to Yahweh. ¹¹ And they said to Moses, "Because there are no graves in Egypt? Is that why you have taken us to die in the desert? What is this you have done to us by bringing us out from Egypt! ¹² Isn't this the word we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone so that we can serve Egypt!' because serving Egypt is better for us than our dying in the desert." ¹³ And Moses said to the people, "You must not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of Yahweh, which he will accomplish for you today, because the Egyptians whom you see today you will see never again. ¹⁴ Yahweh will fight for you, and you must be quiet." ¹⁵ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Why do you cry out to me? Speak to the _⌊Israelites_⌋* so that they set out.* ¹⁶ And you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it so that the _⌊Israelites_⌋* can go in the middle of the sea on the dry land. ¹⁷ And as for me, look, I am about to harden the heart of the Egyptians so that they come after them, and I will display my glory through Pharaoh and through all of his army, through his chariots and through his charioteers. ¹⁸ And the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I display my glory through Pharaoh, through his chariots, and through his charioteers." ¹⁹ And the angel of God who was going before the camp of Israel set out and went behind them. And the column of cloud set out ahead of them, and it stood still behind them, ²⁰ so that it came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel. And _⌊it was a dark cloud_⌋,* but it gave light to the night,* so that _⌊neither approached the other_⌋* all night. ²¹ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh moved the sea* with a strong east wind all night, and he made the sea become dry ground, and the waters were divided. ²² And the _⌊Israelites_⌋* entered the middle of the sea on the dry land. The waters were a wall for them on their right and on their left. ²³ And the Egyptians gave chase* and entered after them—all the horses of Pharaoh, his chariots, and his charioteers—into the middle of the sea. ²⁴ And during the morning watch, Yahweh looked down to the Egyptian camp from in the column of fire and cloud, and he threw the Egyptian camp into a panic. ²⁵ And he removed* the wheels of their chariots so that they drove them with difficulty, and the Egyptians said, "We must flee away* from Israel because Yahweh is fighting for them against Egypt." ²⁶ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea, and let the waters return over the Egyptians, over their chariots, and over their charioteers." ²⁷ And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned _⌊at daybreak_⌋* to its normal level, and the Egyptians were fleeing _⌊because of it_⌋,* and Yahweh swept the Egyptians into the middle of the sea. ²⁸ And the waters returned and covered the chariots and the charioteers—all the army of Pharaoh coming after them into the sea. Not _⌊even_⌋* one survived among them. ²⁹ But the _⌊Israelites_⌋* walked on the dry land in the middle of the sea. The waters were a wall for them on their right and on their left. ³⁰ And Yahweh saved Israel on that day from the hand* of Egypt, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the shore of the sea. ³¹ And Israel saw the great hand* that Yahweh displayed against Egypt, and the people feared Yahweh, and they believed in Yahweh and in Moses his servant.

³⁰ Yahweh your God, who is going _⌊before you_⌋,* will himself* fight for you, _⌊just as_⌋* he did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

²¹ And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, 'Your eyes see all that Yahweh your God has done to these two kings; so Yahweh will do to all of the kingdoms where you are about to cross over to.

³ Your eyes have seen* what Yahweh did with* the case of Baal Peor, for _⌊each_⌋* man that followed after Baal Peor Yahweh your God destroyed from your midst.

³⁴ Or has a god ever attempted to go to take for himself* a nation from the midst of a nation, using trials and signs and wonders and war, with an outstretched arm and with great and awesome deeds, like all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

¹⁹ the great trials that your eyes saw and the signs and the wonders and the workings of the strong hand and the outstretched arm by which Yahweh your God brought you out; so Yahweh your God will do to all of the peoples _⌊because of whom_⌋* you are in fear _⌊before them_⌋.*

¹⁰ The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. ¹¹ And people* will say, "Surely there is a _⌊reward_⌋* for the righteous. Surely there is a God who judges in the land."*

⁸ You will only look with your eyes, and see the punishment of the wicked.

⁹ He sent signs and wonders into your midst, O Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants.

⁵ And when Yahweh brings you to the land of the Canaanites* and the Hittites* and the Amorites* and the Hivites* and the Jebusites*—which he swore to your ancestors* to give to you, a land flowing with milk and honey—you will perform this service in this month.

⁸ Look, I have set the land _⌊before you_⌋;* go and take possession of the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors,* to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it to them and to their offspring after them.'

³⁵ 'No one of these men* of this evil generation will see the good land that I swore to give to your ancestors,*

¹⁰ "And then it will happen that when Yahweh your God will bring you to the land that he swore to your ancestors,* to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to you large and fine cities that you did not build,

¹⁸ And you shall do what is right and good in the eyes of Yahweh, so that _⌊it shall go well_⌋* for you and so that you may go and you may take possession of the good land that Yahweh swore for your ancestors,*

⁴ But you, the ones holding fast to Yahweh your God, are all alive _⌊today_⌋.*

¹ "All of the commandments* that I am commanding you today you must diligently observe, so that you may live and multiply, and you may go and take possession of the land that Yahweh swore to your ancestors.*

³ And he humbled you and let you go hungry, and then he fed you with that which you did not know nor did your ancestors* know, in order to make you know that not by bread alone but by all that goes out* of the mouth of Yahweh humankind shall live.

⁷ If you are righteous, what do you give to him, or what does he receive from your hand? ⁸ Your wickedness affects a person like yourself, and your righteousness affects humans.

² Yahweh protects him and keeps him alive; he is blessed in the land, and you do not give him into the will* of his enemies.

⁹ the one who has kept our soul among the living, and has not allowed our foot to slip.

¹² If you are wise, you are wise for yourself, and if you scoff, alone you shall bear it.

⁴ The reward of humility is the fear of Yahweh— wealth and honor and life.

³⁹ And I will give to them one heart and one way, to revere me _⌊forever_⌋,* for good to them, and to their children after them.

³³ But seek first his kingdom and righteousness,* and all these things will be added to you.

²¹ Therefore what sort of fruit did you have then, about which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. ²² But now, having been set free from sin and having been enslaved to God, you have your fruit leading to sanctification, and its end is eternal life.

⁵ For Moses writes about the righteousness that is from the law: "The person who does this* will live by it."**

⁵ And you shall observe* my statutes and my regulations _⌊by which the person doing them shall live_⌋;* I am Yahweh.

¹³ You shall certainly return the pledge to him _⌊as the sun sets_⌋,* so that he may sleep in his cloak and may bless you, and it shall be considered righteousness _⌊on your behalf_⌋* _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh your God.

³⁰ Then Phinehas stood up and intervened, and so the plague was stopped, ³¹ and it was reckoned to him as righteousness _⌊throughout all generations_⌋.*

⁶ Then I would not be ashamed when I look to all your commands.

²⁸ On the road of righteousness is life, and on the way of the path, may there be no death.

¹¹ and I gave my statutes to them, and my regulations I made known to them, which, if a person does them, then he will live by them.

²⁸ And he said to him, "You have answered correctly. Do this and you will live." ²⁹ But he, wanting to justify himself, said to Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

³ For ignoring the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own,* they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God.

⁵ For Moses writes about the righteousness that is from the law: "The person who does this* will live by it."** ⁶ But the righteousness from faith speaks like this: "Do not say in your heart,* 'Who will ascend into heaven?'"* (that is, to bring Christ down),

¹² But the law is not from faith, but "the one who does these things will live by them."*

¹⁰ For whoever keeps the whole law but stumbles in one point only has become guilty of all of it.
