⁴ "Now this is the case of the manslayer who may flee there and live there who has killed his neighbor _⌊unintentionally_⌋,* and he did not hate him _⌊previously_⌋.*

² Then Jacob saw the face of Laban and, behold, _⌊it was not like it had been in the past_⌋.*

¹⁵ To the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* to the alien, and to the temporary resident in their midst there will be these six cities as a refuge to which anyone who unintentionally kills a person may flee. ¹⁶ " 'But if he hit him with an object of iron, so that he dies, the killer must surely be put to death. ¹⁷ And if he hit him with a stone in the hand, by which he will die, and he does die, he is a killer; the killer must surely be put to death. ¹⁸ Or if he hit him with a wooden object, by which he will die, and he does die, he is a killer; the killer must surely be put to death. ¹⁹ The blood avenger himself will put the killer to death; he must put him to death when meeting him. ²⁰ If he shoves him in hatred, or he throws something at him with intention, and he dies, ²¹ or if he hits him in hostility with his hand, and he dies, the one that struck him will put to death the killer when meeting him. ²² " 'Or if in an instant he shoved him, not in hostility, or threw something at him without intention, ²³ or with any stone, without seeing it dropped on him so that he dies, while he was not seeking his injury, ²⁴ then the community will judge between the striker and between the blood avenger according to these ordinances.

⁴² in order for _⌊a manslayer_⌋* to flee there who has killed his neighbor _⌊without intent_⌋* and was not hating him _⌊previously_⌋,* and so he could flee to one of these cities _⌊and be safe_⌋.*

⁶ He does this lest the avenger of blood might pursue after the killer, because _⌊he is hot with anger_⌋* and he overtakes him, because it is a long distance to the city of refuge, and so _⌊he kills him_⌋,* but _⌊he did not deserve a death sentence_⌋,* because he was not hating him _⌊before_⌋.*

⁴ But there will be a distance between you and it of about two thousand cubits in measurement.* Do not come near it, so that you may know the way that you must go, for you have not passed on this way _⌊before_⌋."*

² _⌊For some time now_⌋,* even when Saul was king, you were _⌊the one who led the army of Israel in battle_⌋.* And Yahweh your God said to you, 'You will shepherd my people Israel and will be leader over my people Israel.'"

³³ For Topheth has been prepared from yesterday; indeed, it is made ready for the king. He makes its pile of wood deep and wide; he makes fire and wood _⌊abundant_⌋.* The breath of Yahweh burns in it like a stream of sulfur.
