² Now there was a man in Maon, whose business was in Carmel. The man was very rich and _⌊owned_⌋* three thousand sheep and a thousand goats. _⌊Now_⌋* the shearing of his sheep was taking place in Carmel.

³² Now Barzillai was very old, _⌊eighty years old_⌋.* Now he had provided the king with food while he was staying at Mahanaim, for he was a very wealthy man.

¹ Now Naaman was the commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man before his master and _⌊highly regarded_⌋,* for by him Yahweh had given victory to Aram. Now the man was a mighty warrior, but he was afflicted with a skin disease.

³ Then* his livestock came to be seven thousand sheep and goats and three thousand camels and five hundred pairs* of oxen and five hundred female donkeys, and he had very many slaves, and that man was greater than all the people of the east.

⁵ Let me go to the great, and let me speak with them, for they know the way of Yahweh, the law* of their God." However, they together have broken the yoke, they have torn to pieces the bonds.

⁶ But if you tell me the dream and its explanation, you will receive gifts and rewards* and great honor from me. Therefore, tell me the dream and its explanation."*

¹ Nebuchadnezzar the king made a statue of gold. Its height was sixty cubits and its width was six cubits; he set it up in the valley of Dura in the province of Babylon.

¹² However there are Judean men whom you have appointed* over the affairs of the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—these men, O king, _⌊pay you no heed_⌋* and were not serving your god, and the statue of gold* that you set up they are not worshiping."

³⁰ Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon.

⁹ " 'O Belteshazzar, chief of the magicians,* I myself know that the spirit* of the holy gods is in you, and _⌊no mystery is too difficult_⌋* for you. Now tell me the visions of my dream that I saw, and its explanation.*

¹¹ There is a man in your kingdom _⌊who has the spirit of the holy gods in him_⌋.* And in the days of your _⌊predecessor_⌋,* enlightenment and insight and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods was found in him; and, O king, Nebuchadnezzar your _⌊predecessor_⌋* appointed him as chief of the magicians,* the conjurers,* the _⌊astrologers_⌋,* and the diviners. Your _⌊predecessor_⌋* the king did this

¹⁶ But I have heard concerning you that you are able _⌊to produce interpretations_⌋* and to solve riddles; now if you are able to read the writing and to make known its explanation* to me, you will be clothed in purple and a necklace of gold will be placed around your neck and you will rule as third in command in the kingdom."

²⁹ Then Belshazzar commanded, and they clothed Daniel with purple and placed a necklace of gold around his neck, and they made a proclamation concerning him that he would be the third ruler in authority in the kingdom.

¹ _⌊It pleased Darius_⌋,* and he set up one hundred and twenty satraps over the kingdom, that they were _⌊throughout the whole kingdom_⌋,* ² and over them were three administrators, of whom Daniel was one, so that these satraps were giving account to them, and the king would not be suffering loss.
