¹ In the third year of Cyrus the king of the Persians, a word* was revealed to Daniel, who was called by his name Belteshazzar, and the word* was reliable and it concerned a great tribulation,* and he understood the word* and _⌊he received understanding_⌋.* ² In those days, I, Daniel, I myself* was in mourning _⌊for three whole weeks_⌋.* ³ I had not eaten any choice food, and meat and wine did not enter my mouth, and _⌊I did not use any ointment_⌋* _⌊until the end of three whole weeks_⌋.* ⁴ And then on the twenty-fourth day of the first month, I myself* was on the bank of the great river; that is, the Tigris. ⁵ And I lifted up my eyes and I saw,* and there was a man, and he was dressed in linen, and his waist was girded with the gold of Uphaz. ⁶ Now his body was like turquoise,* and his face was like the appearance of lightning, and his eyes were like torches of fire, and his arms and his legs were like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words was like the sound of a multitude. ⁷ And I saw, I, Daniel _⌊alone_⌋,* the vision; and the people who were with me _⌊did not see_⌋* the vision; nevertheless, a great trembling fell upon them and they fled in order to hide themselves. ⁸ And I myself, Daniel, alone saw this great vision, and as a result _⌊no strength was left in me_⌋* and _⌊my complexion grew deathly pale_⌋,* and I did not retain any strength. ⁹ And I heard the sound of his words, and _⌊when I heard_⌋* the sound of his words I myself began falling into a trance on my face, _⌊with my face to the ground_⌋.* ¹⁰ And look, a hand touched me and it roused me to my knees* and the palms* of my hands. ¹¹ And he said to me, "Daniel, a man beloved, pay attention to the words that I am speaking to you and _⌊stand upright where you are_⌋,* for I have now been sent to you." And _⌊while he was speaking_⌋* with me this word,* I stood up trembling. ¹² And he said to me, "You must not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself _⌊before_⌋* your God, your words were heard, and I myself* have come because of your words. ¹³ But the prince of the kingdom of Persia stood _⌊before me_⌋* for twenty-one days. And look,* Michael, one of the chief princes, came to assist me, and I left him there beside the king of the Persians. ¹⁴ And I have come* to instruct you about what* will happen to your people _⌊in the future_⌋,* for there is a further vision here _⌊for the future_⌋.* ¹⁵ And while he was speaking with me according to these words, I turned my face toward the ground and I was speechless. ¹⁶ Then look, there was _⌊one in the form of a human_⌋;* he touched my lips and I opened my mouth and I spoke and I said to the one standing _⌊before me_⌋,* "My lord, because of the vision my anxieties fell upon me and I have not retained my strength. ¹⁷ So _⌊how am I, a servant of my lord_⌋* to speak with _⌊you, my lord_⌋,* and I _⌊just now_⌋* _⌊have no strength in me_⌋?"* ¹⁸ And _⌊he again touched_⌋* me, _⌊the one in the form of a human_⌋,* and he strengthened me. ¹⁹ And he said, "You must not fear, O beloved man. _⌊Peace be to you_⌋;* be strong and be courageous!" And _⌊when he spoke_⌋* with me, I was strengthened and I said, "Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me." ²⁰ Then he asked, "Do you know why I have come to you? And now I return to fight against the prince of Persia and I myself* am going, and look,* the prince of Javan* will come. ²¹ However, I will tell you _⌊what is inscribed_⌋* in the book of truth, and there is not one who contends with me against these beings _⌊except_⌋* Michael, your prince."

³² Now concerning the repetition of the dream twice to Pharaoh, it is because the matter is established by God, and God will do it quickly.

²² And in the first year of Cyrus, the king of Persia, in order to fulfill the word of Yahweh by the mouth of Jeremiah, Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus, king of Persia, so that he _⌊made a proclamation_⌋* throughout all his kingdom and also in writing, saying:

⁷ And Cyrus the king brought out the objects of the house of Yahweh that Nebuchadnezzar had brought from Jerusalem and placed in the house of his gods. ⁸ Cyrus the king of Persia let them go out by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and he counted them out to Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah.

⁷ So they gave money to the stone craftsmen and skilled craftsmen, and food, drink, and olive oil to the Sidonians and Tyrians, to bring cedar trees from Lebanon to the sea of Joppa, according to the authorization over them of Cyrus king of Persia.

³ But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of the _⌊families_⌋* of Israel said to them, "It is not for you but for us to build a house for our God. For we ourselves alone will build it for Yahweh the God of Israel, just as Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us."

⁵ and bribed officials against them to frustrate their plan for all the days of Cyrus king of Persia until the reign of Darius king of Persia.

¹³ But in the first year of King Cyrus of Babylon's reign he issued forth a decree to build this house of God. ¹⁴ Also, the gold and silver vessels of the house of God, which Nebuchadnezzar took away from the temple in Jerusalem and brought to the temple in Babylonia, King Cyrus removed them from the temple in Babylonia and they were given to Sheshbazzar, whom he appointed governor. ¹⁵ He said to him, 'Take these vessels. Go put them in the temple in Jerusalem and let the house of God be built on its site.' ¹⁶ Then this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundation of the house of God in Jerusalem. And from that time until now it is being built, but not yet finished.' ¹⁷ And now, if it seems good for the king, let it be investigated in the house of the treasury of the king in Babylonia to see if a decree was issued forth from King Cyrus to build this house of God in Jerusalem. And let the king send to us his desire on this matter."

³ In the first year of King Cyrus, he issued forth a decree concerning the house of God in Jerusalem. Let the house be built, the place where sacrifices are offered and let its foundations be raised. Its height shall be sixty cubits and its width sixty cubits,

¹⁴ So the elders of the Jews were building and prospering, through the prophecy of Haggai the prophet and Zechariah son of Iddo. They finished building by the command of the God of Israel and by the decree of Cyrus, Darius, and King Artaxerxes of Persia.

²⁸ who says of Cyrus, 'My shepherd,' and he shall carry out all my wishes*; and saying of Jerusalem, 'It shall be rebuilt,' and the temple, 'It shall be founded.'"

⁷ And the commander of the court officials gave them names, and he called Daniel, Belteshazzar; and Hananiah, Shadrach; and Mishael, Meshach; and Azariah, Abednego.

¹⁷ _⌊And as for these four young men_⌋,* God* gave to them knowledge and insight into all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had insight into all visions* and dreams.

²¹ And Daniel was there until the first year of Cyrus the king.

²¹ And he changes the times and the seasons, and he deposes kings and he sets up kings; he gives wisdom* to wise men and knowledge to men who know understanding.

⁸ Then _⌊at last_⌋* Daniel came before me _⌊whose name was_⌋* Belteshazzar, _⌊according to_⌋* the name of my god, and _⌊in whom was the spirit of the holy gods_⌋,* _⌊and I related the dream to him_⌋.*

¹² _⌊because_⌋* there was found in him an excellent spirit and understanding and insight for interpreting dreams and explaining riddles and solving riddles; that is, in Daniel _⌊whom the king named_⌋* Belteshazzar. Now, let Daniel be called and he will tell the explanation."*

¹⁷ Then Daniel answered and said before the king, "Let your gifts be for yourself or your rewards give to another; nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and I will make known to him the explanation.*

²⁸ So this Daniel prospered during the kingdom of Darius and during the kingdom of Cyrus the Persian.

¹⁶ And I heard the voice of a human at the Ulai, and he called and said, "Gabriel, make this man understand the vision."

²⁶ And the vision of the evening and the morning that has been _⌊described_⌋,* it is true; and you, seal up the vision, for _⌊it refers to many days to come_⌋."*

²² And he instructed me and he spoke with me and he said, "Daniel I have now come out* to teach you understanding. ²³ At the beginning of your pleas for mercy, a word went out, and now I have come to declare* it, for you are highly esteemed, and so consider the word and understand the vision.

¹⁴ And I have come* to instruct you about what* will happen to your people _⌊in the future_⌋,* for there is a further vision here _⌊for the future_⌋.*

² And now I will reveal the truth to you. Look! Still three kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth will get abundance and great wealth, even more than all of them, and _⌊when he becomes strong_⌋* through his wealth, then he will stir up _⌊everyone_⌋* against the kingdom of Javan.*

⁴ But you, Daniel, keep the words secret and seal the scroll* until the time of the end; many will run back and forth and knowledge will increase."

⁹ And he said, "Go, Daniel, for the words are secret and are sealed up until the time of the end.

²⁰ And behold, you will be silent and not able to speak until the day these things take place, _⌊because_⌋* you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time."

⁹ And he said to me, "Write: Blessed are those who are invited to the banquet of the wedding celebration of the Lamb!" And he said to me, "These are the true words of God."

⁴ Then all who trembled at the words of the God of Israel because of the sin of the returned exiles were gathered around me and I sat appalled until the evening offering. ⁵ At the evening offering I got up from my mourning posture and, with my garment and robe torn, I fell down on my knees and I spread out my palms to Yahweh my God

⁴ When I heard these words, I sat and wept and mourned for days, and I was fasting and praying before the God of the heavens.

⁹ I say to God, my rock, "Why have you forgotten me? Why must I walk about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?"

² because you are the God of my refuge. Why have you rejected me? Why must I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

¹ By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat, yes, we wept, when we remembered Zion. ² On the willows* in her midst, we hung up our lyres. ³ For there our captors asked of us words of a song, and our tormentors* asked of us jubilation, "Sing for us from a song of Zion." ⁴ How could we sing the song of Yahweh in _⌊a foreign land_⌋?* ⁵ If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget.*

¹⁰ "Rejoice with Jerusalem and shout in exultation with her, all those who love her! Rejoice with her in joy, all those who mourn over her,

¹ * _⌊Oh that my head were waters_⌋,* and my eyes a fountain of tears, so that I might weep day and night, for the slain of the daughter of my people.

²⁴ "Seventy weeks is decreed for your people and _⌊for your holy city_⌋,* to put an end to the transgression and to seal up sin* and to make atonement for guilt and to bring in everlasting righteousness and to seal vision and prophet and to anoint _⌊the most holy place_⌋.* ²⁵ And you must know and you must understand* that from the time of the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem until an anointed* one—a leader—will be _⌊seven weeks and sixty-two weeks_⌋;* it will be restored and will be built with streets and a moat, but _⌊in a time of oppression_⌋.* ²⁶ "And after the sixty and two weeks an anointed one* shall be cut off, and _⌊he shall have nothing_⌋,* and the people of the coming leader will destroy the city and the sanctuary,* and its end will be with the flood and on to the end there shall be war; these desolations are determined. ²⁷ And he will make a strong covenant with the many for one week, but in half of the week he will let cease sacrifice and offering _⌊and in its place_⌋* a desolating abomination comes even until _⌊the determined complete destruction_⌋* is poured out on the desolator."

¹⁵ And Jesus said to them, "_⌊The bridegroom's attendants_⌋* are not able to mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them. But days are coming when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.

² that my grief is great and there is constant distress in my heart.

⁹ Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your* joy to gloominess.

⁵ And if anyone wants to harm them, fire comes out of their mouth and consumes their enemies. And if anyone wants to harm them, in this way he must be killed.

²⁴ Now, Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; he had not taken care of his feet nor trimmed his moustache nor washed his clothes from the day the king left until the day he came back in peace.

²⁰ _⌊so that_⌋* his life loathes bread, and his inner self* loathes _⌊appetizing food_⌋.*

⁶ Therefore a curse devours the earth, and the inhabitants in it suffer for their guilt. Therefore the inhabitants of the earth burn, and _⌊few men are left_⌋.* ⁷ The new wine dries up; the vine languishes. All the merry of heart sigh; ⁸ the joy of the tambourine has stopped. The noise of the jubilant has ceased; the joy of the lyre has stopped. ⁹ They do not drink wine with song; strong drink is bitter to those who drink it. ¹⁰ The city of emptiness is broken; every house is shut _⌊so that no one can enter_⌋;* ¹¹ there is an outcry over the wine in the streets. All joy turns into _⌊darkness_⌋;* the joy of the earth disappears.

¹⁸ Then the king went to his palace and spent the night in fasting, and no food was brought in before him and his sleep fled from him.

⁸ And also their gods with their idols and with the _⌊precious vessels_⌋,* silver and gold he will take to Egypt into captivity, and for years _⌊he will leave the king of the north alone_⌋.*

¹¹ Therefore, because you trample on the poor and you take a grain tax from them, you built houses of dressed stone, but you will not live in them. You built vineyards of delightfulness, but you will not drink their wine.

⁹ Plunder the silver! Plunder the gold! There is no end to the spoils,* an abundance of _⌊everything one could want_⌋!*

¹⁷ But when* you are fasting, _⌊put olive oil on your head_⌋* and wash your face

²⁷ But I discipline my body and subjugate it, lest somehow after* preaching to others, I myself should become disqualified.

¹⁴ And the name of the third is Tigris. It flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.

³ the word of Yahweh _⌊came_⌋* clearly* to Ezekiel the son of Buzi, the priest, in the land of the Chaldeans at the _⌊Kebar River_⌋,* and the hand of Yahweh was on him there.

² And I saw in the vision, _⌊and when I saw_⌋,* I was in Susa, the citadel that was in the province of Elam. And I saw in the vision, and _⌊I myself_⌋* was at the stream of Ulai.*

¹³ And it happened, when Joshua was by Jericho, _⌊he looked up_⌋,* and he saw a man standing _⌊opposite him_⌋* with his sword drawn in his hand. And Joshua went to him and said, "Are you with us, or with our adversaries?"

⁵ And righteousness shall be the belt around his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his loins.

⁹ Silver beaten from Tarshish is brought, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the craftsman and the hands of the goldsmith. Blue and purple are their clothing, all of them are the work of skillful people.

² And look! Six men coming from the way of _⌊the upper gate_⌋* that faced _⌊northward_⌋,* and each with his weapon for* shattering in his hand; and one man was in the midst of them, dressed in linen, and the* writing case of the scribe was at his side. And they came and stood beside the bronze altar.

⁶ Then he said to the man who was clothed in linen who was above* the water of the stream,* "_⌊How long until_⌋* the end of the wonders?" ⁷ And I heard the man who was clothed in linen who was above* the water of the stream,* and he raised his right hand and his left hand to heaven and he swore _⌊by the one who lives forever_⌋* that an appointed time, appointed times, and half an appointed time would pass when the shattering of _⌊the power of the holy people_⌋* _⌊would be completed_⌋;* then all these things will be accomplished.

⁸ _⌊I had a vision in the night_⌋,* and look, a man riding on a red horse. And he was standing between the myrtle shrubs that were in the ravine, and behind him were red, reddish-brown, and white horses.

¹⁴ Stand therefore, girding your waist with truth, and putting on the breastplate of righteousness,

¹³ and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching to the feet and girded around his* chest with a golden belt, ¹⁴ and his head and hair were white like wool, white as snow, and his eyes were like a fiery flame, ¹⁵ and his feet were like fine bronze when it has been fired in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters,

⁶ and the seven angels who had the seven plagues came out from the temple, dressed in clean, bright linen garments, and girded with golden belts around their* chests. ⁷ And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who lives _⌊forever and ever_⌋*,

²⁰ and the fourth row is a turquoise and an onyx and a jasper. Their settings will be woven with gold.

⁷ And their legs were straight legs, and the sole of their feet was like the sole of the foot of a calf, and they were sparkling like the outward appearance of polished bronze.

¹⁴ And the living creatures _⌊were speeding to and fro_⌋* like the appearance of lightning.

¹⁶ The appearance of the wheels and their construction was like the appearance of beryl,* and _⌊they all looked alike_⌋,* and their appearance and their construction was _⌊like a wheel within a wheel_⌋.*

²⁴ And I heard the sound of their wings like the sound of many waters, like the voice of Shaddai,* and _⌊when they moved_⌋* there was a sound of tumult like the sound of an army; _⌊when they stood still_⌋* they lowered their wings.

⁹ And I saw, and look, four wheels beside the cherubim, _⌊one wheel beside each cherub_⌋,* and the appearance of the wheels was like the outward appearance of _⌊turquoise stone_⌋.*

² And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothing became bright as the light.

²⁹ And as he was praying, the appearance of his face became different, and his clothing became white, gleaming like lightning.*

¹³ and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching to the feet and girded around his* chest with a golden belt, ¹⁴ and his head and hair were white like wool, white as snow, and his eyes were like a fiery flame, ¹⁵ and his feet were like fine bronze when it has been fired in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of many waters, ¹⁶ and he had in his right hand seven stars, and a sharp double-edged sword coming out of his mouth, and his face was like the sun shining in its strength. ¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

¹ And I saw another powerful angel descending from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, and a rainbow over his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet were like pillars of fire,*

³ And he cried out with a loud voice like a lion roars, and when he cried out, the seven thunders sounded* their own voices. ⁴ And when the seven thunders spoke,* I was about to write, and I heard a voice from heaven saying, "Seal up the things which the seven thunders spoke, and do not write them!"

¹² Now his eyes were a flame of fire, and on his head were many royal headbands having a name written that no one except he himself knows.

²⁰ the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst.

¹⁰ And he replied,* "I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid because I am naked, so I hid myself."

¹⁷ Then Elisha prayed and said, "O Yahweh, please open his eyes that he may see," and Yahweh opened the eyes of the servant, and he saw, and look, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. ¹⁸ They came down to him, and Elisha prayed to Yahweh and said, "Please strike this people with blindness," so he struck them with blindness as _⌊Elisha had spoken_⌋.* ¹⁹ Then Elisha said to them, "This is not the way and this is not the city. Come after me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." Then he brought them to Samaria. ²⁰ It happened at the moment they came to Samaria, Elisha said, "O Yahweh, open the eyes of these that they may see," so Yahweh opened their eyes, and they saw, and look, the middle of Samaria!

¹⁰ Enter into the rock and hide yourself in the dust from the presence of the terror of Yahweh and from the glory of his majesty.

²⁴ Or can a person hide himself in secret places and I cannot see him?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. "Do I not fill up the heaven and the earth?" _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh.

¹⁸ "Son of man,* you must eat your food with trembling, and your water with shuddering, and with anxiety you must drink.

⁷ (Now the men who were traveling together with him stood speechless, because they* heard the voice but saw no one.)

⁹ (Now those who were with me saw the light but did not hear the voice of the one who was speaking to me.)

²¹ And the spectacle was so terrifying that Moses said, "I am terrified and trembling."*

²⁴ And Jacob remained alone, and a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the dawn. ²⁵ And when he* saw that he could not prevail against him, he struck his hip socket, so that Jacob's hip socket was sprained as he wrestled with him.

³¹ Then the sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, and he was limping because of his hip.

³ And Moses said, "Let me turn aside and see this great sight. Why does the bush not burn up?"

²⁸ _⌊This is the end of the account_⌋.* _⌊As for me, Daniel_⌋*—my thoughts terrified me greatly and my face changed over me, but I kept the matter in my heart."*

⁷ And I saw it approaching the ram and it was furious at it, and it struck the ram, and it broke its two horns, and _⌊there was not strength in the ram to stand before him_⌋,* and he threw it down to the ground and trampled it, _⌊and there was no one who could rescue the ram_⌋* from its power.

²⁷ And I, Daniel, was overcome, and I became ill for some days, and I _⌊performed_⌋* the business of the king, and I was dismayed over the vision and _⌊I did not understand it_⌋.*

¹⁶ I hear and my stomach shakes; my lips quiver at the sound; infection enters my bones; that which is beneath me trembles; I wait quietly for the day of trouble to come upon the people attacking us.

⁶ And when* the disciples heard this,* they fell down on their faces and were extremely frightened.

⁶ (For he did not know what he should answer, because they were terrified.)

³² Behold, an hour is coming—and has come—that you will be scattered each one to his own home,* and you will leave me alone. And I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

² I know a man in Christ fourteen years ago—whether in the body I do not know, or outside the body I do not know, God knows—such a man was caught up to the third heaven, ³ and I know this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, God knows—

⁷ even because of the extraordinary degree of the revelations. Therefore, so that I would not exalt myself, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan, in order that it would torment me so that I would not exalt myself.

¹⁷ And when I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead person, and he placed his right hand on me, saying, "Do not be afraid! I am the first and the last,

²¹ And Yahweh God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man.* While* he slept, he took one of his ribs, and closed up _⌊the flesh where it had been_⌋.*

¹² And it happened, as the sun _⌊went down_⌋,* then a deep sleep fell upon Abram and, behold, a great terrifying darkness fell upon him.

¹³ Amid troubling thoughts from night visions, at the falling of deep sleep on men,

¹⁵ "In a dream, a vision of the night, when a deep sleep falls on men slumbering on their bed,

² I was asleep but* my heart was awake. A sound! My beloved knocking!* "Open to me, my sister, my beloved, my dove, my perfect one! For my head is full of dew, _⌊my hair drenched from the moist night air_⌋."*

¹⁸ And _⌊when he spoke_⌋* with me I fell into a trance with my face to the ground, and he touched me and made me stand on by feet.

³² Now Peter and those with him were _⌊very sleepy_⌋,* but when they* became fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men who were standing with him.

⁴⁵ And when he* got up from the prayer and* came to the disciples, he found them sleeping from sorrow,

⁹ Then Yahweh stretched out his hand and he touched my mouth, and Yahweh said to me,
"Look, I have put my words in your mouth.

²¹ And I was still speaking in prayer, and the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision _⌊previously_⌋,* _⌊in my weariness touched me_⌋* at the time of the evening offering.

¹⁶ Then look, there was _⌊one in the form of a human_⌋;* he touched my lips and I opened my mouth and I spoke and I said to the one standing _⌊before me_⌋,* "My lord, because of the vision my anxieties fell upon me and I have not retained my strength.

¹⁸ And _⌊he again touched_⌋* me, _⌊the one in the form of a human_⌋,* and he strengthened me.

¹⁴ dread met me, and trembling, and it made many of my bones shake. ¹⁵ And a spirit glided before my face; the hair of my flesh* bristled. ¹⁶ It stood still, but* I could not recognize its appearance; a form was _⌊before_⌋* my eyes; there was a hush, and I heard a voice:

¹ "About this also my heart trembles, and it leaps from its place.

¹¹ Let the king desire your beauty.* Because he is your lord, therefore* bow down to him.

¹⁰ _⌊I belong to my beloved_⌋,* _⌊and he desires me_⌋!*

¹ And he said to me, "Son of man,* stand on your feet, so that I can speak with you."

¹⁶ And I heard the voice of a human at the Ulai, and he called and said, "Gabriel, make this man understand the vision." ¹⁷ And he came beside _⌊where I was standing_⌋,* and _⌊when he came_⌋* I became terrified and I fell prostrate on my face. And he said to me, "Understand, son of man,* that the vision is for the time of the end."

³ I had not eaten any choice food, and meat and wine did not enter my mouth, and _⌊I did not use any ointment_⌋* _⌊until the end of three whole weeks_⌋.*

¹⁹ And he said, "You must not fear, O beloved man. _⌊Peace be to you_⌋;* be strong and be courageous!" And _⌊when he spoke_⌋* with me, I was strengthened and I said, "Let my lord speak, for you have strengthened me."

⁸ And they went out and* fled from the tomb, because trembling and amazement had seized them. And they said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.*

²³ One of his disciples—the one whom Jesus loved—was reclining _⌊close beside_⌋* Jesus.

²⁰ Peter turned and* saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them* (who also leaned back on his chest at the dinner and said, "Lord, who is the one betraying you?")

⁶ But get up and enter into the city, and it will be told to you _⌊what you must do_⌋."*

¹⁶ But get up and stand on your feet, because for this reason I have appeared to you, to appoint you a servant and witness both to the things in which you saw me and to the things in which I will appear to you,

²⁹ "And this shall be _⌊a lasting statute_⌋* for you: in the seventh month, on the tenth of the month, you must deny yourselves and you must not do any work, whether the native or* the alien who is dwelling in your midst,

³¹ It is _⌊a Sabbath of complete rest_⌋* for you, and you shall deny yourselves—it is _⌊a lasting statute_⌋.*

⁷ " 'And on the tenth of this seventh month you will have a holy convocation, and _⌊you will afflict yourselves_⌋;* you will not do any work.

¹⁰ When I wept in the fasting of my soul, it became reproaches for me.

⁴ Say to those who are hasty of heart,
"Be strong; you must not fear! Look! your God will come with vengeance, with _⌊divine retribution_⌋.* He _⌊is the one who_⌋* will come and save you."

¹⁰ You must not fear, for I am with you; you must not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, indeed I will help you, indeed I will take hold of you with the right hand of my salvation.

¹⁴ You must not fear, O worm of Jacob; people of Israel, I myself, I will help you," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh, "and your redeemer is the holy one of Israel.

⁹ Then you shall call, and Yahweh himself will answer. You shall cry for help, and he will say, 'Here I am!' If you remove from among you the yoke, the _⌊finger-pointing_⌋* and _⌊evil speech_⌋,*

²⁴ And this will happen: before they call, I myself will answer; while still they are speaking, I myself will hear.

³ Then I turned my face to the Lord God to seek him by prayer and pleas for mercy,* in fasting and in sackcloth and ashes. ⁴ And I prayed to Yahweh my God, and I made confession and I said, "O Lord, the great and awesome God, keeping the covenant and loyal love with those who love him and with those who keep his commandments,

²⁰ Now I was still speaking and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my plea _⌊before_⌋* Yahweh my God, on behalf _⌊of the holy mountain of my God_⌋.* ²¹ And I was still speaking in prayer, and the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision _⌊previously_⌋,* _⌊in my weariness touched me_⌋* at the time of the evening offering.

² In those days, I, Daniel, I myself* was in mourning _⌊for three whole weeks_⌋.* ³ I had not eaten any choice food, and meat and wine did not enter my mouth, and _⌊I did not use any ointment_⌋* _⌊until the end of three whole weeks_⌋.*

¹¹ And he said to me, "Daniel, a man beloved, pay attention to the words that I am speaking to you and _⌊stand upright where you are_⌋,* for I have now been sent to you." And _⌊while he was speaking_⌋* with me this word,* I stood up trembling.

⁵ But the angel answered and* said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

¹⁰ Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid! Go tell my brothers that they should go to Galilee, and there they will see me."

⁶ But he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene who was crucified. He has been raised, he is not here! See the place where they laid him!

¹³ But the angel said to him,
"Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your prayer has been heard, and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you will call his name John.

³⁰ And the angel said to her,
"Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.

¹⁰ And the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring good news to you of great joy which will be for all the people:

³⁸ And he said to them, "Why are you frightened? And for what reason do doubts arise in your hearts?

³ About the ninth hour of the day, he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming to him and saying to him, "Cornelius." ⁴ And he stared at him and became terrified and* said, "What is it, Lord?" And he said to him, "Your prayers and your charitable deeds have gone up for a memorial offering before God. ⁵ And now, send men to Joppa and summon a certain Simon, who is also called Peter.

³⁰ And Cornelius said, "_⌊Four days ago at this hour_⌋,* the ninth, I was praying in my house. And behold, a man in shining clothing stood before me ³¹ and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your charitable deeds have been remembered before God.

⁹ And the Lord said to Paul by a vision in the night, "Do not be afraid, but speak and do not keep silent, ¹⁰ because I am with you and no one will attack you to harm you, because many people are mine in this city."

²⁴ saying, 'Do not be afraid, Paul! It is necessary for you to stand before Caesar, and behold, God has graciously granted you all who are sailing with you.'

⁴ Then the people of the land discouraged _⌊the people of Judah_⌋* and made them afraid to build ⁵ and bribed officials against them to frustrate their plan for all the days of Cyrus king of Persia until the reign of Darius king of Persia. ⁶ In the reign of Ahasuerus, at the beginning of his reign, they wrote an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

²⁴ Then the work on the house of God in Jerusalem stopped, and was discontinued until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.

²⁰ Then he asked, "Do you know why I have come to you? And now I return to fight against the prince of Persia and I myself* am going, and look,* the prince of Javan* will come. ²¹ However, I will tell you _⌊what is inscribed_⌋* in the book of truth, and there is not one who contends with me against these beings _⌊except_⌋* Michael, your prince."

¹ "Now at that time, Michael, the great prince, will arise, _⌊the protector_⌋* over the sons of your people, and it will be a time of distress that has not been since your people _⌊have been_⌋* a nation until that time. And at that time your people will escape, _⌊everyone who is found_⌋* written in the scroll.*

¹ And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing _⌊before_⌋* the angel of Yahweh; and Satan* was standing on his right to accuse him. ² But Yahweh said to Satan,* "Yahweh rebukes you, O Satan!* Yahweh who has chosen Jerusalem rebukes you! Is this not a stick snatched from the fire?"

¹² because our struggle is not against blood and flesh, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

¹⁰ and you are filled in him, who is the head over every ruler and authority,

¹⁸ because we wanted to come to you—I, Paul, _⌊on more than one occasion_⌋*—and Satan hindered us.

²² who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, with angels and authorities and powers having been subjected to him.

⁹ But Michael the archangel, when he argued with the devil, disputing concerning the body of Moses, did not dare to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

⁷ And there was war in heaven; Michael and his angels _⌊fought against_⌋* the dragon, and the dragon and his angels _⌊fought back_⌋*.

¹ Then Jacob called his sons and said, "Gather together so that I can tell you what will happen with you in _⌊days to come_⌋.*

³⁰ _⌊In your distress_⌋* when* all these things have found you in the _⌊latter days_⌋,* then* you will return to Yahweh your God, and you will listen to his voice.

²¹ _⌊And then_⌋* many disasters and troubles will come upon them,* and this song will give evidence before them* as a witness, because it will not be forgotten from out of the mouth of their descendants,* for I know their* inclination that they* are having _⌊today_⌋* before I have brought them* into the land that I swore."

² And it shall happen in the future of the days the mountain of the house* of Yahweh shall be established; it will be among the highest* of the mountains, and it shall be raised from the hills. All of the nations shall travel to him;

²⁸ But there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what it is that will be at the end of days. This is your dream and the visions of your head on your bed.

²² And he instructed me and he spoke with me and he said, "Daniel I have now come out* to teach you understanding.

¹ In the third year of Cyrus the king of the Persians, a word* was revealed to Daniel, who was called by his name Belteshazzar, and the word* was reliable and it concerned a great tribulation,* and he understood the word* and _⌊he received understanding_⌋.*

⁵ Afterward the children of Israel will return and seek Yahweh their God and David their king. They will come in fear to Yahweh and to his goodness at the end of days.

¹ And it will be that at the end of those days, the mountain of Yahweh will be established as the highest of the mountains, and it will be lifted up above the hills, and people will stream to it.

³ For there is yet a vision for the appointed time; it will give witness to the end, and it will not lie. If it tarries, wait for it, for it will surely come and not delay.

¹ But know this, that in the last days difficult times will come,

³ how will we escape if we* neglect so great a salvation which had its beginning when it* was spoken through the Lord and was confirmed to us by those who heard,

²⁷ On that day your mouth shall be opened _⌊at the arrival of the fugitive_⌋,* and you shall speak, and you shall not be silent any longer, and you shall be to them as a sign, and they will know that I am Yahweh."

²² And the hand of Yahweh was on me on the evening _⌊before_⌋* the coming of the survivor, and he opened my mouth _⌊before the survivor came to me in the morning_⌋,* and my mouth was opened, and I was _⌊no longer_⌋* dumb.*

⁹ And I heard the sound of his words, and _⌊when I heard_⌋* the sound of his words I myself began falling into a trance on my face, _⌊with my face to the ground_⌋.*

¹⁰ And Moses said to Yahweh, "Please, Lord, I am not a man of words, _⌊neither recently nor in the past nor since your speaking_⌋* to your servant, because I am heavy of mouth and of tongue."

¹³ And he said, "Please, Lord, do send _⌊anyone else whom you wish to send_⌋."*

¹⁴ And he said, "Neither. I have come now as the commander of Yahweh's army." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and _⌊he bowed down_⌋* and said to him, "What is my lord commanding his servant?"

¹³ Gideon said to him, "Excuse me, my lord. If Yahweh is with us, why then has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonderful deeds that our ancestors* recounted to us, saying, 'Did not Yahweh bring us up from Egypt?' But now Yahweh has forsaken us; he has given us into the palm of Midian."

¹⁵ He said to him, "Excuse me, my lord. How will I deliver Israel? Look, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father's house."

⁸ Then Manoah prayed to Yahweh and said, "Excuse me, my Lord, please let the man of God whom you sent again come to us and teach us what we should do concerning the boy who will be born."

¹⁸ For in much wisdom is much frustration,* and whoever increases knowledge increases sorrow.

⁷ And he touched my mouth, and he said,
"Look! This has touched your lips and has removed your guilt, and your sin is annulled."

²⁶ And from above the expanse that was above their heads there was the likeness of a throne, _⌊looking like a sapphire_⌋,* and above the likeness of the throne was a likeness similar to* the appearance of a human on it, but _⌊above it_⌋.*

²⁷ And when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you must say to them, 'Thus says the Lord Yahweh: "The one hearing him, let him hear, and the one failing to hear, let him fail," ' for they _⌊are a rebellious house_⌋.*

¹⁵ "_⌊As for me, Daniel_⌋,* my spirit was troubled _⌊within me_⌋,* and the visions of my head terrified me.

¹⁵ _⌊And then_⌋* when I, Daniel, saw the vision, and I was seeking understanding, there was one standing before me with the appearance of a man.

¹⁷ And he came beside _⌊where I was standing_⌋,* and _⌊when he came_⌋* I became terrified and I fell prostrate on my face. And he said to me, "Understand, son of man,* that the vision is for the time of the end."

⁵ And I lifted up my eyes and I saw,* and there was a man, and he was dressed in linen, and his waist was girded with the gold of Uphaz. ⁶ Now his body was like turquoise,* and his face was like the appearance of lightning, and his eyes were like torches of fire, and his arms and his legs were like the gleam of polished bronze, and the sound of his words was like the sound of a multitude.

⁸ And I myself, Daniel, alone saw this great vision, and as a result _⌊no strength was left in me_⌋* and _⌊my complexion grew deathly pale_⌋,* and I did not retain any strength. ⁹ And I heard the sound of his words, and _⌊when I heard_⌋* the sound of his words I myself began falling into a trance on my face, _⌊with my face to the ground_⌋.* ¹⁰ And look, a hand touched me and it roused me to my knees* and the palms* of my hands.

¹⁷ So _⌊how am I, a servant of my lord_⌋* to speak with _⌊you, my lord_⌋,* and I _⌊just now_⌋* _⌊have no strength in me_⌋?"* ¹⁸ And _⌊he again touched_⌋* me, _⌊the one in the form of a human_⌋,* and he strengthened me.

⁸ Now I myself heard, but I did not understand, and I said, "My lord, what will be the outcome of these things?"

⁶⁴ And his mouth and his tongue were opened immediately, and he began to speak,* praising God.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom that all your opponents will not be able to resist or contradict.

²⁸ Thomas answered and said to him, "My Lord and my God!"

⁷ but emptied himself by* taking the form of a slave, by* becoming in the likeness of people. And being found in appearance like a man, ⁸ he humbled himself by* becoming obedient to the point of death, that is, death on a cross.

¹³ and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching to the feet and girded around his* chest with a golden belt,

²⁰ And moreover, you shall say, 'Look, your servant Jacob is behind us.'" For he thought, "_⌊Let me appease him_⌋* with the gift going before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will _⌊show me favor_⌋."*

¹⁰ And they saw the God of Israel, and what was under his feet was like sapphire tile work and like the very heavens for clearness. ¹¹ And toward the leaders of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* he did not stretch out his hand, and they beheld God, and they ate, and they drank.

²⁰ But he said, "You are not able to see my face, because a human will not see me and live."

²² And Gideon realized that he was the angel of Yahweh; and Gideon said, "Oh, my lord Yahweh! For now I have seen the angel of Yahweh face to face."

²¹ The angel of Yahweh did not appear again to Manoah and his wife, and then Manoah knew that he was a messenger* of Yahweh. ²² And Manoah said to his wife, "We will certainly die because we have seen God." ²³ But his wife said to him, "If Yahweh wanted to kill us he would not have taken* from our hand the burnt offering and the grain offering, or shown us all these things, or now announced to us things such as these."

¹ In the year of the death of Uzziah the king, I saw the Lord sitting on a high and raised throne, and the hem of his robe was filling the temple. ² Seraphs were standing above him. _⌊Each had six wings_⌋:* with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. ³ And the one called to the other and said,
"Holy, holy, holy is Yahweh of hosts! The _⌊whole earth is full of his glory_⌋."* ⁴ And the pivots of the thresholds shook from the sound of those who called, and the house* was filled with smoke. ⁵ And I said, "Woe to me! For I am destroyed!* For I am a man _⌊of unclean lips_⌋,* and I am living among* a people _⌊of unclean lips_⌋,* for my eyes have seen the king, Yahweh of hosts!"

⁴³ He said to them, "How then does David, by the Spirit, call him 'Lord,' saying, ⁴⁴ 'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet" '?*

³⁶ David himself said by the Holy Spirit,
'The Lord said to my Lord, "Sit at my right hand, until I put your enemies under your feet." '*

¹⁸ No one has seen God at any time; the one and only, God, the one who is in the bosom of the Father—that one has made him* known.

¹⁵ When David realized that Saul had gone out to seek his life, David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh.

⁵ I could* encourage you with my mouth, and the solace of my lips would* ease the pain.

⁶ Would he contend with me in the greatness of his strength? No, but he himself* would give heed to me.

³ Strengthen the weak hands and make the staggering knees firm. ⁴ Say to those who are hasty of heart,
"Be strong; you must not fear! Look! your God will come with vengeance, with _⌊divine retribution_⌋.* He _⌊is the one who_⌋* will come and save you."

¹⁰ And look, a hand touched me and it roused me to my knees* and the palms* of my hands.

³² but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail. And you, when* once you have turned back,* strengthen your brothers."

⁴³ And an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.

²³ And after* spending some time there, he departed, traveling through one place after another in the Galatian region and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.

⁹ And he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, because the* power is perfected in weakness." Therefore rather I will boast most gladly in my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may reside in me. ¹⁰ Therefore I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in calamities, in persecutions and difficulties for the sake of Christ, for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.

¹⁶ that he may grant you according to the riches of his glory to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner person,

¹³ I am able to do all things by the one who strengthens me.

¹¹ enabled with all power, according to his glorious might, for all steadfastness and patience with joy,

⁶ Be strong and courageous, for you will give the people this land as an inheritance that I swore to their ancestors* to give them. ⁷ Only be strong and very courageous _⌊to observe diligently the whole law_⌋* that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn aside from it, to the right or left, so that you may succeed _⌊wherever you go_⌋.*

⁹ Did I not command you? Be strong and courageous! Do not fear or be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you _⌊wherever you go_⌋."*

²³ And Yahweh said to him, "Peace be with you. Do not fear; you will not die."

⁹ So Eli said to Samuel "Go lie down. _⌊If he calls_⌋* to you, then you must say, 'Speak Yahweh, because your servant is listening.'" So Samuel went and lay down in his place. ¹⁰ Then Yahweh came and stood there and called out _⌊as before_⌋,* "Samuel! Samuel!" And Samuel said, "Speak, because your servant is listening."

³ _⌊When_⌋* I called and you answered me, you emboldened me in my soul with strength.

¹ But now thus says Yahweh,
he who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel: "You must not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name; _⌊you are mine_⌋.* ² When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they shall not flow over you. When you walk through fire, you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not scorch* you.

²³ At the beginning of your pleas for mercy, a word went out, and now I have come to declare* it, for you are highly esteemed, and so consider the word and understand the vision.

¹¹ And he said to me, "Daniel, a man beloved, pay attention to the words that I am speaking to you and _⌊stand upright where you are_⌋,* for I have now been sent to you." And _⌊while he was speaking_⌋* with me this word,* I stood up trembling. ¹² And he said to me, "You must not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and to humble yourself _⌊before_⌋* your God, your words were heard, and I myself* have come because of your words.

⁴ 'But now take courage,* Zerubbabel,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. 'Take courage,* Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and take courage,* all the people of the land,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. 'Do the work, because I am with you,' _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh of hosts,

⁹ "Thus says Yahweh of hosts: 'Let your hands be strong, you* who are hearing in these days these words from the mouth of the prophets who were present on the day _⌊the foundation was laid for the rebuilding of the temple, the house of Yahweh of hosts_⌋.*

¹³ _⌊And then_⌋,* just as you were a curse among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so will I save you, and you will be a blessing. You must not be afraid; let your hands be strong!'"

³⁶ And while* they were saying these things, he himself stood there among them.* ³⁷ But they were startled and became terrified, and* thought they had seen a ghost. ³⁸ And he said to them, "Why are you frightened? And for what reason do doubts arise in your hearts?

³ So the sisters sent word* to him, saying, "Lord, behold, the one whom you love is sick."

³⁶ So the Jews were saying, "See how he loved him!"

²⁷ "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you—not as the world gives, I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them* be afraid.

⁹ "Just as the Father has loved me, I also have loved you. Remain in my love. ¹⁰ If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and remain in his love. ¹¹ I have spoken these things to you in order that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be made complete. ¹² This is my commandment: that you love one another just as I have loved you. ¹³ No one has greater love than this: that someone lay down his life for his friends. ¹⁴ You are my friends if you do what I command you.

³³ I have said these things to you so that in me you may have peace. In the world you have affliction, but have courage! I have conquered the world."

²⁶ So Jesus, seeing his* mother and the disciple whom he loved standing there, said to his* mother, "Woman, behold your son!"

¹³ Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act courageously, be strong.

⁹ And he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, because the* power is perfected in weakness." Therefore rather I will boast most gladly in my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may reside in me.

¹⁰ Finally, become strong in the Lord and in the might of his strength.

¹ You, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus,

³⁶ And the angel of Yahweh set out and struck one hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians. When* they rose in the morning, look! All of them were dead corpses.

⁶ After this I was watching and look, another beast like a leopard; _⌊it had four wings_⌋* of a bird on its back, and _⌊the beast had_⌋* four heads, and dominion was given to it.

⁵ And I was considering this, and look, a he-goat coming from the west across the face of the whole earth, and it was not touching the ground;* and the he-goat had _⌊a conspicuous horn_⌋* between its eyes. ⁶ Then it came toward the ram _⌊that had the two horns_⌋* that I saw standing _⌊before_⌋* the stream, and it ran at it with* the rage of its power. ⁷ And I saw it approaching the ram and it was furious at it, and it struck the ram, and it broke its two horns, and _⌊there was not strength in the ram to stand before him_⌋,* and he threw it down to the ground and trampled it, _⌊and there was no one who could rescue the ram_⌋* from its power. ⁸ And the he-goat grew _⌊exceedingly great_⌋,* and _⌊at the height of its power_⌋* the great horn was broken, and four conspicuous horns* came up in place of it toward the four winds of heaven.

²¹ "And the hairy he-goat is the _⌊kingdom_⌋* of Greece, and the great horn that is between his eyes—he is the first king.

¹³ But the prince of the kingdom of Persia stood _⌊before me_⌋* for twenty-one days. And look,* Michael, one of the chief princes, came to assist me, and I left him there beside the king of the Persians.

² And now I will reveal the truth to you. Look! Still three kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth will get abundance and great wealth, even more than all of them, and _⌊when he becomes strong_⌋* through his wealth, then he will stir up _⌊everyone_⌋* against the kingdom of Javan.* ³ And a mighty king will arise, and he will rule with great dominion, and he will do _⌊as he pleases_⌋.* ⁴ But _⌊as he rises in power_⌋,* his kingdom will be divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his posterity, and not according to his dominion by which he ruled, for his kingdom will be uprooted and be given _⌊to others besides them_⌋.*

²³ And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down _⌊because_⌋* he did not give the glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and* died.

²² Let them bring them, and let them tell us what will happen. Tell us what the former things are _⌊so that_⌋* we may take them to our heart and know their outcome.* Declare to us the things to come; ²³ tell us the things coming _⌊hereafter_⌋,* that* we may know that you are gods. Indeed, do good or* do evil, that* we may be afraid and see* together.

⁸ Bring out the people blind yet* with eyes, and deaf, though* they have ears. ⁹ Let all the nations gather together, and let the peoples assemble. Who among them has declared this, and _⌊declared_⌋* the former things to us? Let them bring* their witnesses, that* they may be in the right, and let them hear and say, "It is true!"

²⁵ And you must know and you must understand* that from the time of the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem until an anointed* one—a leader—will be _⌊seven weeks and sixty-two weeks_⌋;* it will be restored and will be built with streets and a moat, but _⌊in a time of oppression_⌋.*

¹ "And I, in the first year of Darius the Mede, _⌊I stood_⌋* as a support and as a protection for him. ² And now I will reveal the truth to you. Look! Still three kings will arise in Persia, and the fourth will get abundance and great wealth, even more than all of them, and _⌊when he becomes strong_⌋* through his wealth, then he will stir up _⌊everyone_⌋* against the kingdom of Javan.* ³ And a mighty king will arise, and he will rule with great dominion, and he will do _⌊as he pleases_⌋.* ⁴ But _⌊as he rises in power_⌋,* his kingdom will be divided toward the four winds of heaven, but not to his posterity, and not according to his dominion by which he ruled, for his kingdom will be uprooted and be given _⌊to others besides them_⌋.* ⁵ "Then the king of the south will grow strong and also _⌊one of his officials_⌋,* and he will grow stronger _⌊than him_⌋* and he will rule _⌊a dominion greater than his dominion_⌋.* ⁶ And at the end of some years they will make an alliance, and the daughter of the king of the south will come to the king of the north to make a peace treaty, but _⌊she will not retain her position of power_⌋,* and his offspring* will not endure, and she will be given up, she and her attendants and her child supporting her, in those times.* ⁷ And a branch from her roots* will rise up in his place, and he will come against the army and he will enter the stronghold of the king of the north and he will take action against them and he will prevail. ⁸ And also their gods with their idols and with the _⌊precious vessels_⌋,* silver and gold he will take to Egypt into captivity, and for years _⌊he will leave the king of the north alone_⌋.* ⁹ And then he* will come into the kingdom of the king of the south, but he will return to his land. ¹⁰ "But his sons will wage war and they will gather a multitude of great forces and _⌊he will advance with great force_⌋,* and he will overflow like a flood and he will pass through and he will return, and they will wage war up to his fortress. ¹¹ And the king of the south will become furious, and he will go and he will battle against him, against the king of the north; and he will muster a great multitude, and the multitude will be given into his hand. ¹² When the multitude is carried off, his heart will be exalted and he will overthrow _⌊tens of thousands_⌋,* but he will not prevail.

⁷ Surely my Lord does not do anything unless he has revealed his secret to his servants the prophets.

¹⁵ And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written:

¹⁸ known from of old.'*
