²⁰ But when* neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and with not a little bad weather confronting us,* finally all hope was abandoned that we would be saved.

²¹ And Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand toward the heavens so that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt and so that a person can feel darkness." ²² And Moses stretched out his hand toward the heavens, and there was darkness of night in all the land of Egypt for three days. ²³ No one could see his brother, and _⌊because of it no one could move from where they were_⌋* for three days, but there was light for the _⌊Israelites_⌋* in their dwellings.

²⁸ He sent darkness and made it dark, and they did not rebel against his words.

²⁵ For he spoke and raised up a stormy wind, and it whipped up its waves. ²⁶ They rose to the heavens; they plunged to the depths. Their soul melted in their calamity. ²⁷ They reeled and staggered like a drunkard, and _⌊they were at their wits' end_⌋.*

¹⁰ You grow weary by the greatness of your way, but you did not say, 'Despairing!' You found the _⌊renewal_⌋* of your _⌊strength_⌋,* therefore you do not grow weak.

²⁵ Restrain your foot from being barefoot, and your throat from thirst. But you said, 'It is hopeless. No! For I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.'*

¹¹ And he said to me, "Son of man,* these bones are all of the house of Israel; look! they are saying, 'Our bones are dried up, and our hope is destroyed; _⌊we are cut off as far as we are concerned_⌋.'*

⁴ And Yahweh hurled a great wind upon the sea, and it was a great storm on the sea, and the merchant ship _⌊was in danger of breaking up_⌋.*

¹¹ So they said to him, "What shall we do to you so that the sea may quiet down for us?" because the sea _⌊was growing more and more tempestuous_⌋.* ¹² And he said to them, "Pick me up and hurl me into the sea so that the sea may quiet down for you, because I know that on account of me this great storm has come upon you all." ¹³ But the men rowed hard to bring the ship* back to the dry land, and they could not do so because the sea _⌊was growing more and more tempestuous_⌋* against them. ¹⁴ So they cried out to Yahweh, and they said, "O Yahweh! Please do not let us perish because of this man's life, and _⌊do not make us guilty of innocent blood_⌋,* because you, O Yahweh, did what you wanted."

²⁴ And behold, a great storm arose on the sea, so that the boat was being inundated by the waves, but he himself was asleep. ²⁵ And they came and* woke him, saying, "Lord, save us!* We are perishing!"

²⁹ "And immediately after the tribulation of those days,
'the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of heaven will be shaken.'*

²⁵ Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I received a stoning. Three times I was shipwrecked. A day and a night I have spent in the deep water.

¹² that you were at that time apart from Christ, alienated from the citizenship of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, not having hope, and without God in the world.

¹³ Now we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you will not grieve as also the rest, who have no hope.
