³⁸ Jesus of Nazareth—how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, because God was with him.

⁹ And they taught in Judah, and the scroll of the law of Yahweh was with them when they went around in all the cities of Judah, and they taught the people.

² The kings of the earth establish themselves, and the rulers conspire* together against Yahweh and his anointed:

⁶ "But as for me, I have set my king on Zion, my holy mountain."

⁷ You love righteousness and hate wickedness. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you from among your companions with festive oil.

² And the spirit of Yahweh shall rest on him— a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and might, a spirit of knowledge and the fear of Yahweh.

¹ Look! here is my servant; I hold him, my chosen one, in whom my soul delights. I have _⌊put_⌋* my spirit on him; he will bring justice forth to the nations.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord Yahweh is upon me, because Yahweh has anointed me, he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up _⌊the brokenhearted_⌋,* to _⌊proclaim_⌋* release to the captives and liberation to those who are bound, ² to _⌊proclaim_⌋* the year of Yahweh's favor, and our God's day of vengeance, to comfort all those in mourning, ³ to _⌊give_⌋* for those in mourning in Zion, to give them a head wrap instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, a garment of praise instead of a faint spirit. And _⌊they will be called_⌋* oaks of righteousness, the planting of Yahweh, to show his glory.

²³ And he went around through all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and every sickness among the people. ²⁴ And a report about him went out _⌊throughout_⌋* Syria, and they brought to him all those _⌊who were sick_⌋* with various diseases and afflicted by torments, demon-possessed* and epileptics and paralytics, and he healed them. ²⁵ And large crowds followed him from Galilee, Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from the other side of the Jordan.

³⁵ And Jesus was going around all the towns and the villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every* disease and every* sickness.

¹⁵ Now Jesus, when he* learned of it,* withdrew from there, and many* followed him, and he healed them all.

²⁸ But if I expel demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you!

²¹ And departing from there, Jesus went away to the region of Tyre and Sidon. ²² And behold, a Canaanite woman from that district came and cried out, saying, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon!" ²³ But he did not answer her a word. And his disciples came up and* asked him, saying, "Send her away, because she is crying out after us!" ²⁴ But he answered and* said, "I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." ²⁵ But she came and* knelt down before him, saying, "Lord, help me!" ²⁶ And he answered and* said, "It is not right to take the children's bread and throw it* to the dogs!" ²⁷ So she said, "Yes, Lord, for even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table." ²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said to her, "O woman, your faith is great! Let it be done for you as you want." And her daughter was healed from that hour. ²⁹ And departing from there, Jesus went along the Sea of Galilee, and he went up on the mountain and* was sitting there. ³⁰ And large crowds came to him, having with them the mute, blind, lame, crippled,* and many others, and they put them down at his feet, and he healed them. ³¹ So then the crowd was astonished when they* saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, and the lame walking, and the blind seeing, and they praised the God of Israel.

³⁸ And he said to them, "Let us go elsewhere, into the neighboring rural towns, so that I can preach there also, because I have come out for this very reason." ³⁹ And he went into all Galilee preaching in their synagogues and expelling demons.

⁷ And Jesus went away with his disciples to the sea,* and a great crowd from Galilee followed him.* And from Judea ⁸ and from Jerusalem and from Idumea and the other side of the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon a great crowd came to him because they* heard all that he was doing. ⁹ And he told his disciples that a small boat should stand ready for him because of the crowd, so that they would not press upon him. ¹⁰ For he had healed many, so that all those who _⌊were suffering from diseases_⌋* pressed about him in order that they could touch him. ¹¹ And the unclean spirits, whenever they saw him, were falling down before him and crying out, saying, "You are the Son of God!"

¹³ And he permitted them. And the unclean spirits came out and* entered into the pigs, and the herd—about two thousand—rushed headlong down the steep slope into the sea and were drowned in the sea. ¹⁴ And their herdsmen fled and reported it* in the town and in the countryside, and they came to see what it was that had happened. ¹⁵ And they came to Jesus and saw the demon-possessed man sitting there clothed and in his right mind—the one who had had the legion—and they were afraid.

⁶ And he was astonished because of their unbelief.

⁵⁴ And as they were getting out of the boat, people* recognized him immediately. ⁵⁵ They ran about through that whole region and began to carry around those _⌊who were sick_⌋* on stretchers, wherever they heard that he was. ⁵⁶ And wherever he would go, into villages or into towns or to farms, they would put those who were sick in the marketplaces and would implore him that if they could touch even the edge of his cloak. And all those who touched it were healed.

²⁹ And he said to her, "Because of this statement, go! The demon has gone out of your daughter." ³⁰ And when she* went to her home, she found the child lying on the bed and the demon gone.

²² and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove, and a voice came from heaven, "You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased."

¹⁸ "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because of which he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to send out in freedom those who are oppressed,

³³ And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon,* and he cried out with a loud voice, ³⁴ "Ha! _⌊Leave us alone_⌋,* Jesus the Nazarene! Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" ³⁵ And Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent and come out of him!" And after* throwing him down in their midst, the demon came out of him without hurting him at all. ³⁶ And amazement came upon them all, and they began to talk* with one another, saying, "What word* is this? For he commands the unclean spirits with authority and power, and they come out!"

¹⁰ And when they* returned to the house, those who had been sent found the slave healthy. ¹¹ And it happened that on the next day he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him. ¹² And as he approached the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, his mother's only son, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her. ¹³ And when* the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her, "Do not weep!" ¹⁴ And he came up and* touched the bier, and those who were carrying it* stopped. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, get up!" ¹⁵ And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and he gave him to his mother. ¹⁶ And fear seized them all, and they began to glorify* God, saying, "A great prophet has appeared among us!" and "God has visited to help his people!" ¹⁷ And this report about him went out in the whole of Judea and in all the surrounding region.

²¹ In that hour he healed many people of diseases and suffering and evil spirits, and he granted sight to many blind people. ²² And he answered and* said to them, "Go and* tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear;* the dead are raised, the poor have good news announced to them.* ²³ And whoever is not offended by me is blessed."

⁴² And while* he was still approaching, the demon threw him down and convulsed him.* But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

⁵⁶ and they proceeded to another village.

² This man came to him at night and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are* a teacher who has come from God, for no one is able to perform these signs that you are performing unless God were with him."

³⁴ For the one whom God sent speaks the words of God, for he does not give the Spirit by measure.

²⁷ Do not work for the food that perishes, but the food that remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has set his seal on this one."

³² Jesus answered them, "I have shown you many good deeds from the Father. For which one of them are you going to stone me?"

³⁶ do you say about he whom the Father set apart and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? ³⁷ If I do not do the deeds of my Father, do not believe me. ³⁸ But if I am doing them,* even if you do not believe me, believe the deeds, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father."

³² Behold, an hour is coming—and has come—that you will be scattered each one to his own home,* and you will leave me alone. And I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

²² "Israelite men, listen to these words! Jesus the Nazarene, a man attested to you by God with deeds of power and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, just as you yourselves know—

²⁶ The kings of the earth stood opposed, and the rulers assembled together at the same place, against the Lord and against his Christ.'* ²⁷ For in truth both Herod and Pontius Pilate, together with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed,

⁹ You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; because of this God, your God, has anointed you with the olive oil of joy more than your companions.*

¹⁴ Therefore, since the children share in blood and flesh, he also in like manner shared in these same things, in order that through death he could destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵ and could set free these who through fear of death were subject to slavery throughout all their lives.

⁸ Be sober; be on the alert. Your adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.

⁸ The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. For this reason the Son of God was revealed: in order to destroy the works of the devil.
