¹⁶ And what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said,
"I will live in* them and will walk about among them, and I will be their God and they will be my people."*

⁷ And I will establish my covenant between me and you, and between your offspring after you, throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant to be as God for you and to your offspring after you. ⁸ And I will give to you and to your offspring after you _⌊the land in which you are living as an alien_⌋,* all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting property. And I will be to them as God."

³ "There shall be for you no other gods before me.

¹³ " 'And you will be attentive to all that I have said to you, and you will not _⌊profess_⌋* the name of other gods; it will not be heard in your mouth.

⁴⁵ And I will dwell in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋,* and I will be their God.

¹⁴ For you will not bow in worship to another god, for 'Yahweh Is Jealous' is his name, he is a jealous God,

¹² And I will walk about in your midst, and I shall be your God,* and you shall be my people.*

²³ Watch out for yourselves so that you do not forget the covenant of Yahweh your God that he had _⌊made_⌋* with you and make for yourselves a divine image of the form of anything that Yahweh your God _⌊has forbidden_⌋,* ²⁴ for Yahweh your God is a devouring fire, a jealous* God.

⁷ There shall not be for you other gods _⌊besides me_⌋.*

¹⁴ You shall not go after other gods from the gods of the peoples who are all around you, ¹⁵ for Yahweh your God is a jealous god in your midst, _⌊so that the anger of Yahweh your God would be kindled_⌋,* and he would destroy you from the face of the earth.

¹⁴ "So now, revere Yahweh and serve him in sincerity and faithfulness; remove the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river* and in Egypt, and serve Yahweh. ¹⁵ But if it is bad in your eyes to serve Yahweh, choose for yourselves today whom you want to serve, whether it is the gods that your ancestors* served beyond the river,* or the gods of the Amorites* in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve Yahweh." ¹⁶ And the people answered and said, "Far be it from us that we would forsake Yahweh to serve other gods, ¹⁷ for Yahweh our God brought us and our ancestors* from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery, and did these great signs before our eyes. He protected us along the entire way that we went, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed. ¹⁸ And Yahweh drove out all the people before us, the Amorites* who live* in the land. We will serve Yahweh, for he is our God." ¹⁹ But Joshua said to the people, "You cannot serve Yahweh, for he is a holy and jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions or your sins. ²⁰ If you forsake Yahweh and serve foreign gods, he will turn and bring disaster to you; he will destroy you after he has done good to you." ²¹ And the people said to Joshua, "No, we will serve Yahweh." ²² And Joshua said to the people, "You are witnesses against yourselves that you have chosen for yourselves to serve Yahweh." And they said, "We are witnesses." ²³ He said, "Remove the foreign gods that are in your midst, and incline your hearts to Yahweh the God of Israel." ²⁴ And the people said to Joshua, "We will serve Yahweh our God, and we will listen to his voice."

³ And Samuel spoke to all the house of Israel, saying, "If with all your heart you are turning to Yahweh, remove the foreign gods and Ashtoreths* from your midst. Commit your hearts to Yahweh and serve him alone. Then he will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines." ⁴ So the _⌊Israelites_⌋* removed the Baals* and the Ashtoreths, and they served Yahweh alone.

²¹ Elijah approached to all the people and said, "How long will you go limping over two opinions? If Yahweh is God, go after him; but if Baal, go after him." But the people did not answer him a word.

³³ Yahweh they were fearing, but their gods they were serving, according to the customs of the nations from which they were deported. ³⁴ Until this day they are doing according to their former customs; none of them are fearing Yahweh, and none of them are doing according to their statutes, to their decisions, to the law, or to the commands that Yahweh commanded the descendants* of Jacob to which he had given the name Israel.

⁴ He built altars in the temple of Yahweh about which Yahweh had said, "I will put my name in Jerusalem." ⁵ He built an altar to all of the host of heaven in the two courtyards of the temple of Yahweh.

⁵ He removed the priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places at the cities of Judah and around Jerusalem and who offered incense to, to the sun, to the moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven. ⁶ He brought out the Asherah image from the temple of Yahweh outside of Jerusalem to the Wadi of the Kidron and burnt it _⌊there_⌋;* then he pulverized it to dust and threw its dust upon the tombs of the children of the people. ⁷ He tore down the shrines of the male shrine prostitutes which were in the temple of Yahweh, where the women were weaving shrines for the Asherah.

⁴ And he built altars in the house of Yahweh, of which Yahweh had said, "In Jerusalem my name shall be forever." ⁵ And he built altars to all the host of heaven in the two courtyards of the house of Yahweh.

¹ A prayer of Moses, the man of God.*
O Lord, you have been our help* _⌊in all generations_⌋.*

⁷ And I will give to them a heart to know me, that I am Yahweh, and _⌊they will be my people_⌋,* and _⌊I will be their God_⌋,* for they will return to me with the whole of their heart.

³³ "But this is the covenant that I will _⌊make_⌋* with the house of Israel after those days," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh: "I will put my law in their inward parts and on their hearts* I will write it, and I will be to them God, and they themselves will be to me people.

³⁸ And they will be for me a people, and I will be for them God.

²⁰ so that they may walk in my statutes, and they will keep my regulations, and they will do them, and they will be to me a people, and I myself will be to them as God.

²⁵ And I will sprinkle on you pure water, and you will be clean from all of your uncleanness, and I will cleanse you from all of your idols.

²⁸ And you will dwell in the land that I gave to your ancestors,* and you will be to me as a people, and I will be to you as* God.

²⁶ And I will make with them a covenant of peace; _⌊an everlasting covenant_⌋* it will be with them. And I will establish them, and I will cause them to increase, and I will put my sanctuary in the midst of them _⌊forever_⌋.* ²⁷ And my tabernacle will be with them, and I will be for them as God, and they will be to me as a nation.

⁷ And he said to me, "Son of man,* this is the place of my throne and the place for the soles of my feet _⌊where I will dwell_⌋* in the midst of the _⌊Israelites_⌋* to eternity, and they, the house of Israel, they and their kings, will not again defile _⌊my holy name_⌋* with their fornication and with their offerings for the dead* of their kings on their high places.

⁹ Now let them send their fornication far away and the offerings for the dead* of their kings away from me, and I will dwell in the midst of them _⌊forever_⌋.*

²³ I will sow her for myself in the land; I will have pity on Lo-ruhama;* I will say to Lo-ammi,* "You are my people," and he himself will say, "you are my God."

⁸ O Ephraim, _⌊what have I to do_⌋* with idols? I myself have answered and looked after you.* I am like a luxuriant cypress; your fruit* comes from me.

⁵ and those who bow down on the rooftops to the host of heaven, and those who bow down, swearing to Yahweh but also swearing by Milkom,*

¹⁰ Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion, for look, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst," _⌊declares_⌋* Yahweh. ¹¹ "Many nations will join themselves to Yahweh on that day, and they will be my people, and I will dwell in your midst. And you will know that Yahweh of hosts has sent me to you.

⁸ and I will bring them and they will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. They will be my people and I will be their God in faithfulness* and in righteousness.'

⁹ And I will bring the remaining third into the fire, and I will refine them like one refines silver, and I will test them like one tests gold. They* will call my name, and I will answer them.* I will say, 'They* are my people,' and they* will say, 'Yahweh is my God.'"

²⁴ "No one is able to serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You are not able to serve God and money.*

⁵⁶ The one who eats* my flesh and drinks my blood resides in me and I in him.

⁹ But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person _⌊does not belong to him_⌋*.

¹¹ And if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raised Christ Jesus* from the dead will also make alive your mortal bodies through his Spirit who lives in you.

²⁶ And it will be in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' there they will be called 'sons of the living God.'"*

¹⁶ Do you not know that you are God's temple and the Spirit of God dwells in you? ¹⁷ If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy this one. For God's temple is holy, which you are.

¹⁹ Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

²⁰ built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,*

¹⁷ that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith (you having been firmly rooted and established in love),

¹⁴ Guard the good deposit through the Holy Spirit who lives in us.

⁶ but Christ was faithful* as a son over his house, whose house we are, if* we hold fast to our confidence and the hope we can be proud of.

¹⁰ For this is the covenant that I will decree with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I am putting my laws in their minds and I will write them on their hearts, and I will be _⌊their_⌋* God and they will be _⌊my_⌋* people.

⁵ And you yourselves, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

¹² No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God resides in us and his love is perfected in us.

¹⁵ Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God resides in him and he in God.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, in order that we may know the one who is true, and we are in the one who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This one is the true God and eternal life. ²¹ Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

¹ "To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:
"This is what the one who holds the seven stars in his right hand says, the one who walks in the midst of the seven gold lampstands:

³ And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
"Behold, the dwelling of God is with humanity, and he will take up residence with them, and they will be his people and God himself will be with them.*

⁷ The one who conquers will inherit these things, and I will be _⌊his God_⌋* and he will be _⌊my son_⌋*.
