²⁸ You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.

³ For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare you the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

¹¹ I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit, and with fire: ¹² Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.

²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why do you baptize then, if you be not that Christ, nor Elijah, neither that prophet?

²⁷ He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
