¹² But above all things, my brothers, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yes be yes; and your no, no; lest you fall into condemnation.

³³ Again, you have heard that it has been said by them of old time, You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform unto the Lord your oaths: ³⁴ But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: ³⁵ Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. ³⁶ Neither shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. ³⁷ But let your communication be, Yes, yes; No, no: for whatsoever is more than these comes of evil.

¹⁶ Woe unto you, you blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! ¹⁷ You fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifies the gold? ¹⁸ And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever swears by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty. ¹⁹ You fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifies the gift? ²⁰ Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, swears by it, and by all things thereon. ²¹ And whoever shall swear by the temple, swears by it, and by him that dwells in it. ²² And he that shall swear by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him that sits thereon.

³⁴ And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that you come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

¹⁷ When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yes yes, and no no? ¹⁸ But as God is true, our word toward you was not yes and no. ¹⁹ For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yes and no, but in him was yes. ²⁰ For all the promises of God in him are yes, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

¹ My brothers, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. ² For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

⁸ And above all things have fervent love among yourselves: for love shall cover the multitude of sins.

² Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
