¹⁹ While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Truthfully, truthfully, I say unto you, Whosoever commits sin is the servant of sin.

¹² Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in the lusts of it. ¹³ Neither yield you your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. ¹⁴ For sin shall not have dominion over you: for you are not under the law, but under grace.

¹⁶ Do you not know, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? ¹⁷ But God be thanked, that you were the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. ¹⁸ Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness. ¹⁹ I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as you have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. ²⁰ For when you were the servants of sin, you were free from righteousness. ²¹ What fruit had you then in those things whereof you are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. ²² But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.

¹ Stand fast therefore in the liberty with which Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.

¹³ For, brothers, you have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

²⁶ And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

³ For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving different lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

¹⁶ As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

²⁰ For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in it, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.
