⁹ Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man.

³⁶ And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; ³⁷ And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

¹⁰ And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: ¹¹ But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

³⁹ The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband lives; but if her husband be dead, she is at liberty to be married to whom she will; only in the Lord. ⁴⁰ But she is happier if she so abide, after my judgment: and I think also that I have the Spirit of God.

² A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

¹² Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

³ Honor widows that are widows indeed. ⁴ But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to show piety at home, and to repay their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God.

¹¹ But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry;

¹⁴ I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
