¹¹ Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;

³⁴ And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

²⁰ But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

²⁹ That you abstain from foods offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if you keep yourselves, you shall do well. Fare you well.

²³ But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

¹³ For if you live after the flesh, you shall die: but if you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live.

¹ I beseech you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in lewdness and wantonness, not in strife and envying. ¹⁴ But put you on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfill the lusts of it.

²⁰ Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be reconciled to God.

¹ We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that you receive not the grace of God in vain.

¹ Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

¹⁶ This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. ¹⁷ For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that you cannot do the things that you would. ¹⁸ But if you be led of the Spirit, you are not under the law. ¹⁹ Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, ²⁰ Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, ²¹ Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

²⁴ And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

¹ I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that you walk worthy of the vocation with which you are called,

⁹ But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. ¹⁰ For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

²² Flee also yethful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, love, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

⁹ yet for love's sake I rather beseech you, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. ¹⁰ I beseech you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

¹³ These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

¹ From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

¹ Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

¹⁷ And if you call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to every man's work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear:

² That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

¹⁵ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. ¹⁷ And the world passes away, and the lust of it: but he that does the will of God abides forever.
