⁶ Wherein you greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, you are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

¹² Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

²⁸ Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

³⁷ And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

⁴⁷ And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour.

¹⁰ And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

²⁰ Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

²² And you now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man takes from you.

³³ These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

²² Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God.

² By whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

¹¹ And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

² That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

¹² Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

⁹ For I think that God has set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. ¹⁰ We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised. ¹¹ Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling place; ¹² And labor, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we tolerate it: ¹³ Being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

⁷ But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. ⁸ We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; ⁹ Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; ¹⁰ Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. ¹¹ For we which live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

¹⁷ For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceedingly and eternal weight of glory;

¹⁰ As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

²³ Are they ministers of Christ? (I speak as a fool) I am more; in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths often. ²⁴ Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes less one. ²⁵ Three times was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, three times I suffered shipwreck, a night and a day I have been in the deep; ²⁶ In journeyings often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils by my own countrymen, in perils by the heathen, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brothers; ²⁷ In weariness and painfulness, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

⁹ And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for you: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. ¹⁰ Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.

²² But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

²⁶ For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that you had heard that he had been sick.

³ For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

⁴ Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

⁶ And you became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.

³⁵ Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: ³⁶ And others had trial of cruel mockings and scourgings, yes, moreover of bonds and imprisonment: ³⁷ They were stoned, they were sawn asunder, were tempted, were slain with the sword: they wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins; being destitute, afflicted, tormented; ³⁸ (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they wandered in deserted places, and in mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.

⁷ If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chastens not? ⁸ But if you be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are you bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them respect: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they truthfully for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. ¹¹ Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto those who are exercised thereby.

² My brothers, count it all joy when you fall into different temptations;

⁹ Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.

⁷ That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: ⁸ Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you see him not, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand: be you therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.

¹² Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: ¹³ But rejoice, inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy.

¹⁰ But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you.
