² For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

² He comes forth like a flower, and is cut down: he flees also as a shadow, and continues not.

⁵ That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? ⁶ Though his haughtiness mounts up to the heavens, and his head reaches unto the clouds; ⁷ Yet he shall perish forever like his own refuse: they who have seen him shall say, Where is he? ⁸ He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found: yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night. ⁹ The eye also which saw him shall see him no more; neither shall his place any more behold him.

³⁵ I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. ³⁶ Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

¹⁷ Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end. ¹⁸ Surely you did set them in slippery places: you cast them down into destruction. ¹⁹ How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. ²⁰ As a dream when one awakes; so, O Lord, when you awake, you shall despise their image.

⁵ You carry them away as with a flood; they are like a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which grows up. ⁶ In the morning it flourishes, and grows up; in the evening it is cut down, and withers.

⁷ When the wicked spring as the grass, and when all the workers of iniquity do flourish; it is that they shall be destroyed forever:

⁵ Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion. ⁶ Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withers before it grows up: ⁷ With which the reaper fills not his hand; nor he that binds sheaves his bosom.

¹⁰ But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. ¹¹ For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withers the grass, and its flower falls, and the beauty of the appearance of it perishes: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

²⁴ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away:
