⁴ And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way to the Sea of Reeds, to go around the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was greatly discouraged because of the way.

⁹ And Moses spoke so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses because of anguish of spirit, and of cruel bondage.

²⁵ (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) Tomorrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

¹⁸ And Edom said unto him, you shall not pass by me, lest I come out against you with the sword. ¹⁹ And the children of Israel said unto him, We will go by the highway: and if I and my cattle drink of your water, then I will pay for it: I will only, without doing anything else, go through on my feet. ²⁰ And he said, you shall not go through. ²⁷ And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation.

⁷ And why discourage you the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them?

⁹ For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

⁴¹ And they departed from mount Hor, and encamped at Zalmonah.

⁴⁰ But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

⁵ Meddle not with them; for I will not give you any of their land, no, not so much as one footstep; because I have given mount Seir unto Esau for a possession. ⁶ You shall buy food from them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water from them for money, that you may drink. ⁷ For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the works of your hand: he knows your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing. ⁸ And when we passed by away from our brethren the children of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongeber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

¹⁸ Then they went along through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and encamped on the other side of Arnon, but came not within the border of Moab: for Arnon was the border of Moab.
