Of the children of Judah; Athaiah the son of Uzziah, the son of Zechariah, the son of Amariah, the son of Shephatiah, the son of Mahalalel, of the children of Perez; ⁵ And Maaseiah the son of Baruch, the son of Col-hozeh, the son of Hazaiah, the son of Adaiah, the son of Joiarib, the son of Zechariah, the son of Shilonite. ⁶ All the sons of Perez that dwelt at Jerusalem were four hundred threescore and eight valiant men. ⁷ And these are the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah. ⁸ And after him Gabbai, Sallai, nine hundred twenty and eight. ⁹ And Joel the son of Zichri was their overseer: and Judah the son of Hassenuah was second over the city. ¹⁰ Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin. ¹¹ Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, was the ruler of the house of God. ¹² And their brethren that did the work of the house were eight hundred twenty and two: and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, ¹³ And his brethren, heads of the fathers’ houses, two hundred forty and two: and Amashai the son of Azarel, the son of Ahzai, the son of Meshillemoth, the son of Immer. ¹⁴ And their brethren, mighty men of valor, a hundred twenty and eight: and their overseer was Zabdiel, the son of Haggedolim. ¹⁵ Also of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Bunni; ¹⁶ And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the heads of the Levites, had the oversight of the outside business of the house of God. ¹⁷ And Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the leader to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: and Bakbukiah the second among his brethren, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun. ¹⁸ All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred fourscore and four. ¹⁹ Moreover the gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon, and their brethren that kept the gates, were a hundred seventy and two. ²⁰ And the rest of Israel, of the priests, and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance. ²¹ But the Nethinim dwelt in Ophel: and Ziha and Gispa were over the Nethinim. ²² The overseer also of the Levites at Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, the son of Hashabiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Mica, of the sons of Asaph, the singers, were over the business of the house of God. ²³ For it was the king’s commandment concerning them, that a certain portion should be for the singers, as required every day. ²⁴ And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabel, of the children of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king’s hand in all matters concerning the people. ²⁵ And for the villages, with their fields, some of the children of Judah dwelt at Kiriath-arba, and in its villages, and at Dibon, and in its villages, and at Jekabzeel, and in its villages, ²⁶ And at Jeshua, and at Moladah, and at Beth-pelet, ²⁷ And at Hazar-shual, and at Beer-sheba, and in its villages, ²⁸ And at Ziklag, and at Meconah, and in its villages, ²⁹ And at En-rimmon, and at Zorah, and at Jarmuth, ³⁰ Zanoah, Adullam, and in their villages, at Lachish, and its fields, at Azekah, and in its villages. And they dwelt from Beer-sheba unto the valley of Hinnom. ³¹ The children also of Benjamin from Geba dwelt at Michmash, and Aija, and Beth-el, and in their villages, ³² And at Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, ³³ Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, ³⁴ Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, ³⁵ Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. ³⁶ And of the Levites were divisions in Judah, and in Benjamin.

⁸ If there arise a matter too hard for you in judgment, between bloodsheds, between legal rights, and between assaults, being matters of controversy within your gates: then shall you arise, and get you up into the place which the LORD your God shall choose; ⁹ And you shall come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days, and inquire; and they shall show you the sentence of judgment:

¹⁰ And Joshua cast lots for them in Shiloh before the LORD: and there Joshua divided the land unto the children of Israel according to their divisions.

⁹ But now this shall be the thing which we will do to Gibeah; we will go up by lot against it; ¹⁰ And we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to bring food for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the abomination that they have done in Israel.

¹³ And they cast lots, the small as well as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.

⁴ Now the city was large and great: but the people in it were few, and the houses were not rebuilt. ⁵ And my God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be registered by genealogy. And I found a register of the genealogy of them who came up at the first, and found written in it,

³⁴ And we cast the lots among the priests, the Levites, and the people, for the wood offering, to bring it into the house of our God, according to our fathers’ houses, at times appointed year by year, to burn upon the altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the law:

¹⁸ All the Levites in the holy city were two hundred fourscore and four.

⁵ For there are set thrones of judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

³³ The lot is cast into the lap; but its every decision is of the LORD.

² For they call themselves after the holy city, and anchor themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name.

¹ Awake, awake; put on your strength, O Zion; put on your beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for no longer, there shall no more come into you the uncircumcised and the unclean.

⁵ Then the devil took him up into the holy city, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple,

⁵³ And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

²⁴ And they prayed, and said, You, Lord, who know the hearts of all men, show which of these two you have chosen,

¹³ In any case you shall deliver him the pledge again when the sun goes down, that he may sleep in his own clothing, and bless you: and it shall be righteousness unto you before the LORD your God.

⁹ My heart is toward the rulers of Israel, that offered themselves willingly among the people. Bless you the LORD.

¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

²⁰ If his heart has not blessed me, and if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

¹⁶ But thanks be to God, who put the same earnest care into the heart of Titus for you. ¹⁷ For indeed he accepted the exhortation; but being more earnest, of his own accord he went unto you.

¹ So all Israel were recorded by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression. ² Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinim. ³ And in Jerusalem dwelt some of the children of Judah, and some of the children of Benjamin, and some of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh; ⁴ Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Perez the son of Judah. ⁵ And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons. ⁶ And of the sons of Zerah; Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety. ⁷ And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah, ⁸ And Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah; ⁹ And their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were chief of the fathers in the houses of their fathers. ¹⁰ And of the priests; Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin, ¹¹ And Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the chief officer of the house of God; ¹² And Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer; ¹³ And their brethren, heads of their fathers’ houses, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God. ¹⁴ And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari; ¹⁵ And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph; ¹⁶ And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites. ¹⁷ And the gatekeepers were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief; ¹⁸ Who until then waited in the king’s gate eastward: they were gatekeepers in the camp of the children of Levi. ¹⁹ And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entrance. ²⁰ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him. ²¹ And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. ²² All these who were chosen to be gatekeepers in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were recorded by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their office of trust. ²³ So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the LORD, namely, the house of the tabernacle, as guards. ²⁴ In four quarters were the gatekeepers, toward the east, west, north, and south. ²⁵ And their brethren, who were in their villages, were to come after seven days from time to time with them. ²⁶ For these Levites, the four chief gatekeepers, were in their office of trust, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God. ²⁷ And they lodged round about the house of God, because the responsibility was upon them, and the opening of it every morning belonged to them. ²⁸ And certain of them had the charge of the serving vessels, that they should bring them in and out by count. ²⁹ Some of them also were appointed to oversee the furnishings, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices. ³⁰ And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices. ³¹ And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the office of trust over the things that were baked in the pans. ³² And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the showbread, to prepare it every sabbath. ³³ And these are the singers, heads of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free from other service: for they were employed in that work day and night. ³⁴ These heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites were leaders throughout their generations; these dwelt at Jerusalem.

¹ Now these are the children of the province that went up out of the captivity, of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away unto Babylon, and came again unto Jerusalem and Judah, every one unto his city;

⁴³ The Nethinim: the children of Ziha, the children of Hasupha, the children of Tabbaoth,

⁵⁵ The children of Solomon’s servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Hassophereth, the children of Peruda, ⁵⁶ The children of Jaalah, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel, ⁵⁷ The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth-hazzebaim, the children of Ami. ⁵⁸ All the Nethinim, and the children of Solomon’s servants, were three hundred ninety and two.

⁷⁰ So the priests, and the Levites, and some of the people, and the singers, and the gatekeepers, and the Nethinim, dwelt in their towns, and all Israel in their towns.

⁶ These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity, of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and came again to Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;

⁵⁷ The children of Solomon’s servants: the children of Sotai, the children of Sophereth, the children of Perida, ⁵⁸ The children of Jaala, the children of Darkon, the children of Giddel, ⁵⁹ The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth of Zebaim, the children of Amon. ⁶⁰ All the Nethinim, and the children of Solomon’s servants, were three hundred ninety and two.

⁷³ So the priests, and the Levites, and the gatekeepers, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinim, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities; and when the seventh month came, the children of Israel were in their cities.

²⁰ And the rest of Israel, of the priests, and the Levites, were in all the cities of Judah, every one in his inheritance.

²⁹ And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How have you broken forth? this breach be upon you: therefore his name was called Perez.

¹⁸ Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez begat Hezron,

³ And in Jerusalem dwelt some of the children of Judah, and some of the children of Benjamin, and some of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh; ⁴ Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Perez the son of Judah. ⁵ And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons. ⁶ And of the sons of Zerah; Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety. ⁷ And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah, ⁸ And Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah; ⁹ And their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were chief of the fathers in the houses of their fathers.

³ And Judah begat Perez and Zerah of Tamar; and Perez begat Hezron and Hezron begat Ram;

³³ Who was the son of Amminadab, who was the son of Ram, who was the son of Hezron, who was the son of Perez, who was the son of Judah,

⁵ And she yet again conceived, and bore a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bore him.

²⁰ And the sons of Judah after their families were; of Shelah, the family of the Shelanites: of Perez, the family of the Perezites: of Zerah, the family of the Zerahites.

²¹ The sons of Shelah the son of Judah were, Er the father of Lecah, and Laadah the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea,

⁵ And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons.

¹⁵ But the gate of the fountain repaired Shallun the son of Col-hozeh, the ruler of the district of Mizpah; he built it, and covered it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and the wall of the pool of Shelah by the king’s garden, and unto the stairs that go down from the city of David.

⁷ And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah,

¹⁰ And of the priests; Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin,

³⁶ The priests: the children of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred seventy and three.

¹⁶ Then I sent for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, leading men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, men of understanding.

³⁹ The priests: the children of Jedaiah, of the house of Jeshua, nine hundred seventy and three.

⁶ Shemaiah, and Joiarib, Jedaiah,

¹⁹ And of Joiarib, Mattenai; of Jedaiah, Uzzi;

³² And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall be head over the leaders of the Levites, and have the oversight of them that keep the charge of the sanctuary.

⁷ Meraioth begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub, ⁸ And Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Ahimaaz, ⁹ And Ahimaaz begat Azariah, and Azariah begat Johanan, ¹⁰ And Johanan begat Azariah, (he it is that executed the priest’s office in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem:) ¹¹ And Azariah begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub, ¹² And Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Shallum, ¹³ And Shallum begat Hilkiah, and Hilkiah begat Azariah, ¹⁴ And Azariah begat Seraiah, and Seraiah begat Jehozadak,

¹¹ And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the LORD; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters: also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and the LORD shall be with the good.

¹³ And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahath, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were overseers under the hand of Cononiah and Shimei his brother, at the commandment of Hezekiah the king, and Azariah the ruler of the house of God.

¹ Now after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah, ² The son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub, ³ The son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth, ⁴ The son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki, ⁵ The son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest:

²⁴ Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they were perplexed of what might come of this.

¹² And Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer; ¹³ And their brethren, heads of their fathers’ houses, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God. ¹⁴ And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;

¹⁹ And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entrance.

²⁰ And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasuries of the house of God, and over the treasuries of the dedicated things.

²⁹ Of the Izharites, Chenaniah and his sons performed the outside duties over Israel, as officers and judges.

³³ Now on the fourth day were the silver and the gold and the articles weighed in the house of our God by the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, Levites;

⁷ Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.

² Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reasonable that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables. ³ Therefore, brethren, pick out from among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

¹⁵ And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;

⁴ And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to invoke, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:

⁴¹ And with them Heman and Jeduthun, and the rest that were chosen, who were designated by name, to give thanks to the LORD, because his mercy endures forever;

¹ Moreover David and the captains of the army separated for the service some of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with lyres, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was: ² Of the sons of Asaph; Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied according to the order of the king. ³ Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun; Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Shemei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the hands of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with a harp, to give thanks and to praise the LORD. ⁴ Of Heman: the sons of Heman; Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth: ⁵ All these were the sons of Heman the king’s seer in the words of God, to exalt the horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters. ⁶ All these were under the direction of their father in the music in the house of the LORD, with cymbals, lyres, and harps, for the service of the house of God, according to the king’s order to Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman.

¹² Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah,

⁸ Moreover the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, who was over the thanksgiving, he and his brethren. ⁹ Also Bakbukiah and Unno, their brethren, stood opposite them in the service.

²⁵ Mattaniah, and Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, Akkub, were gatekeepers keeping the watch at the storehouses of the gates.

³¹ Then I brought up the leaders of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of them that gave thanks, of which one went on the right hand upon the wall toward the refuse gate:

⁶ Be anxious for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

¹⁷ Pray without ceasing. ¹⁸ In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

¹³ However I will not tear away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to your son for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake which I have chosen.

¹ And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine tenths to dwell in other cities.

²⁴ Seventy weeks are determined upon your people and upon your holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

¹⁵ When you therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoever reads, let him understand:)

² But the court which is outside the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

² And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

¹⁰ For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.

³ Now these are the leaders of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem: but in the cities of Judah dwelt everyone in his own possession in their cities; Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Nethinim, and the children of Solomon’s servants.

³ He built the high gate of the house of the LORD, and on the wall of Ophel he built much.

²⁶ Moreover the Nethinim dwelling in Ophel, repaired unto the place opposite the water gate toward the east, and the tower that projects out.

³¹ After him repaired Malchijah the goldsmith’s son unto the house of the Nethinim, and of the merchants, opposite the gate Hammiphkad, and to the upper chamber of the corner.

¹⁵ And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph; ¹⁶ And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites. ¹⁷ And the gatekeepers were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief; ¹⁸ Who until then waited in the king’s gate eastward: they were gatekeepers in the camp of the children of Levi. ¹⁹ And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entrance. ²⁰ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him. ²¹ And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was gatekeeper at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. ²² All these who were chosen to be gatekeepers in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were recorded by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their office of trust. ²³ So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the LORD, namely, the house of the tabernacle, as guards. ²⁴ In four quarters were the gatekeepers, toward the east, west, north, and south. ²⁵ And their brethren, who were in their villages, were to come after seven days from time to time with them. ²⁶ For these Levites, the four chief gatekeepers, were in their office of trust, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God. ²⁷ And they lodged round about the house of God, because the responsibility was upon them, and the opening of it every morning belonged to them. ²⁸ And certain of them had the charge of the serving vessels, that they should bring them in and out by count. ²⁹ Some of them also were appointed to oversee the furnishings, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices. ³⁰ And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices. ³¹ And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the office of trust over the things that were baked in the pans. ³² And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the showbread, to prepare it every sabbath.

¹⁹ And Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;

¹⁷ After him repaired the Levites, Rehum the son of Bani. Next unto him repaired Hashabiah, the ruler of the half district of Keilah, in his district.

⁴ Then stood up upon the stairs, of the Levites, Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani, and cried with a loud voice unto the LORD their God. ⁵ Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless the LORD your God forever and ever: and blessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

⁹ And Joel the son of Zichri was their overseer: and Judah the son of Hassenuah was second over the city.

¹¹ Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, was the ruler of the house of God.

¹⁴ And their brethren, mighty men of valor, a hundred twenty and eight: and their overseer was Zabdiel, the son of Haggedolim.

¹⁶ And Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the heads of the Levites, had the oversight of the outside business of the house of God. ¹⁷ And Mattaniah the son of Mica, the son of Zabdi, the son of Asaph, was the leader to begin the thanksgiving in prayer: and Bakbukiah the second among his brethren, and Abda the son of Shammua, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun.

²⁴ And the heads of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brethren opposite them, to praise and to give thanks, according to the commandment of David the man of God, watch corresponding with watch. ²⁵ Mattaniah, and Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, Akkub, were gatekeepers keeping the watch at the storehouses of the gates.

³⁵ And certain of the priests’ sons with trumpets; namely, Zechariah the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Micaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph:

⁴² And Maaseiah, and Shemaiah, and Eleazar, and Uzzi, and Jehohanan, and Malchijah, and Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sang loudly, with Jezrahiah as their leader.

⁴⁶ For in the days of David and Asaph of old there was a leader of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God.

¹³ And I made treasurers over the storehouse, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah: for they were counted faithful, and their duty was to distribute unto their brethren.

²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

³³ And these are the singers, heads of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free from other service: for they were employed in that work day and night.

⁸ Moreover I make a decree of what you shall do for the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods, even of the tribute beyond the river, without delay expenses be given unto these men, that they be not hindered. ⁹ And that which they have need of, both young bullocks, and rams, and lambs, for the burnt offerings of the God of heaven, wheat, salt, wine, and oil, according to the requirement of the priests who are at Jerusalem, let it be given them day by day without fail:

²⁰ And whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of your God, which you shall have occasion to provide, provide it out of the king’s treasure house. ²¹ And I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers which are beyond the river, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done promptly, ²² Unto a hundred talents of silver, and to a hundred cors of wheat, and to a hundred baths of wine, and to a hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much. ²³ Whatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be diligently done for the house of the God of heaven: for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons? ²⁴ Also we inform you, that concerning any of the priests and Levites, singers, gatekeepers, Nethinim, or servants of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose toll, tribute, or custom, upon them.

⁴⁷ And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions for the singers and the gatekeepers, every day their portion: and they set apart holy things for the Levites; and the Levites set them apart for the children of Aaron.

³⁰ And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zerah.

¹⁷ And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and the sons of David were chief officials at the king’s side.

²⁸ Because their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of the LORD, in the courts, and in the chambers, and in the purifying of all holy things, and the work of the service of the house of God;

²¹ Meshezabel, Zadok, Jaddua,

¹⁵ And the name of Hebron before was Kiriatharba; this Arba was a great man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.

²¹ And the furthermost cities of the tribe of the children of Judah toward the border of Edom in the South were Kabzeel, and Eder, and Jagur, ²² And Kinah, and Dimonah, and Adadah,

²⁶ Amam, and Shema, and Moladah, ²⁷ And Hazargaddah, and Heshmon, and Bethpelet,

² And they had in their inheritance Beersheba, and Sheba, and Moladah,

³¹ Therefore he called that place Beersheba; because there they swore both of them.

³³ And he called it Shibah: therefore the name of the city is Beersheba unto this day.

²⁸ And Hazarshual, and Beersheba, and Biziothiah,

³ And Hazarshual, and Balah, and Ezem,

¹ Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, unto the LORD in Mizpah.

³¹ And Ziklag, and Madmannah, and Sansannah,

⁶ Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: therefore Ziklag has belonged unto the kings of Judah unto this day.

¹¹ The king of Jarmuth, one; the king of Lachish, one;

³² And Lebaoth, and Shilhim, and Ain, and Rimmon: all the cities are twenty and nine, with their villages: ³³ And in the lowland, Eshtaol, and Zorah, and Ashnah,

³⁵ Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah,

⁴¹ And the border of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Irshemesh,

²⁵ And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol.

³ Therefore Adonizedek king of Jerusalem sent unto Hoham king of Hebron, and unto Piram king of Jarmuth, and unto Japhia king of Lachish, and unto Debir king of Eglon, saying,

¹⁵ The king of Libnah, one; the king of Adullam, one;

⁸ And the border went up by the valley of the son of Hinnom unto the south slope of the Jebusite; the same is Jerusalem: and the border went up to the top of the mountain that lies before the valley of Hinnom westward, which is at the end of the valley of the giants northward:

³⁴ And Zanoah, and Engannim, Tappuah, and Enam, ³⁵ Jarmuth, and Adullam, Socoh, and Azekah,

³⁹ Lachish, and Bozkath, and Eglon,

¹⁶ And the border came down to the end of the mountain that lies before the valley of the son of Hinnom, and which is in the valley of the giants on the north, and descended to the valley of Hinnom, to the side of the Jebusites on the south, and descended to Enrogel,

¹⁰ And he defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

¹³ The valley gate repaired Hanun, and the inhabitants of Zanoah; they built it, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof, and a thousand cubits on the wall unto the refuse gate.

⁸ So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

³¹ And they have built the high places of Topheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart. ³² Therefore, behold, the days come, says the LORD, that it shall no more be called Topheth, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Topheth, till there is no room.

² And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell you,

⁶ Therefore, behold, the days come, says the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.

³⁵ And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire unto Molech; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.

¹⁵ Yet will I bring an heir unto you, O inhabitant of Mareshah: he shall come unto Adullam, the glory of Israel.

⁸ And he removed from there unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east: and there he built an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

¹⁹ And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at first.

⁹ Joshua therefore sent them forth: and they went to lie in ambush, and abode between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai: but Joshua lodged that night among the people.

¹³ And the border went over from there toward Luz, to the side of Luz, which is Bethel, southward; and the border descended to Atarothadar, near the hill that lies on the south side of lower Bethhoron.

²⁴ And Chepharharmmonai, and Ophni, and Geba; twelve cities with their villages:

¹¹ And Samuel said, What have you done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that you came not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash;

²³ And the garrison of the Philistines went out to the pass of Michmash.

³⁰ The men of Ramah and Geba, six hundred twenty and one. ³¹ The men of Michmas, a hundred and twenty and two. ³² The men of Beth-el and Ai, a hundred twenty and three.

²⁸ He has come to Aiath, he has passed to Migron; at Michmash he has stored his supplies:

¹⁸ Anathoth with its pasture lands, and Almon with its pasture lands; four cities.

¹ Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why are you alone, and no man with you?

¹⁹ And Nob, the city of the priests, struck he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and nursing infants, and oxen, and donkeys, and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

²⁷ The men of Anathoth, a hundred twenty and eight.

³⁰ Lift up your voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laishah, O poor Anathoth.

³² As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his fist against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.

¹ The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

²⁵ Gibeon, and Ramah, and Beeroth,

¹⁷ And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.

³ And the Beerothites fled to Gittaim, and were sojourners there until this day.)

¹⁸ In Ramah was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.

¹⁸ And another company turned the way to Bethhoron: and another company turned to the way of the border that looks upon the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness.

¹⁴ And Meonothai begat Ophrah: and Seraiah begat Joab, the father of the valley of Harashim; for they were craftsmen.

¹² The sons of Elpaal; Eber, and Misham, and Shemed, who built Ono, and Lod, with its towns:

³⁷ The children of Lod, Hadid, and Ono, seven hundred twenty and one.

⁷ Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

¹ Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel; ² And they spoke unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the pasture lands for our cattle. ³ And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their pasture lands. ⁴ And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities. ⁵ And the rest of the children of Kohath had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. ⁶ And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. ⁷ The children of Merari by their families had out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. ⁸ And the children of Israel gave by lot unto the Levites these cities with their pasture lands, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses. ⁹ And they gave out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, these cities which are here mentioned by name, ¹⁰ Which the children of Aaron, being of the families of the Kohathites, who were of the children of Levi, had: for theirs was the first lot. ¹¹ And they gave them the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron, in the hill country of Judah, with the pasture lands round about it. ¹² But the fields of the city, and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for his possession. ¹³ Thus they gave to the children of Aaron the priest Hebron with its pasture lands, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Libnah with its pasture lands, ¹⁴ And Jattir with its pasture lands, and Eshtemoa with its pasture lands, ¹⁵ And Holon with its pasture lands, and Debir with its pasture lands, ¹⁶ And Ain with its pasture lands, and Juttah with its pasture lands, and Bethshemesh with its pasture lands; nine cities out of those two tribes. ¹⁷ And out of the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands, ¹⁸ Anathoth with its pasture lands, and Almon with its pasture lands; four cities. ¹⁹ All the cities of the children of Aaron, the priests, were thirteen cities with their pasture lands. ²⁰ And the families of the children of Kohath, the Levites who remained of the children of Kohath, even they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim. ²¹ For they gave them Shechem with its pasture lands in mount Ephraim, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Gezer with its pasture lands, ²² And Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Bethhoron with its pasture lands; four cities. ²³ And out of the tribe of Dan, Eltekeh with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands, ²⁴ Aijalon with its pasture lands, Gathrimmon with its pasture lands; four cities. ²⁵ And out of the half tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasture lands, and Gathrimmon with its pasture lands; two cities. ²⁶ All the cities were ten with their pasture lands for the families of the children of Kohath that remained. ²⁷ And unto the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half tribe of Manasseh they gave Golan in Bashan with its pasture lands, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Beeshterah with its pasture lands; two cities. ²⁸ And out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its pasture lands, Daberath with its pasture lands, ²⁹ Jarmuth with its pasture lands, Engannim with its pasture lands; four cities. ³⁰ And out of the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands, ³¹ Helkath with its pasture lands, and Rehob with its pasture lands; four cities. ³² And out of the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its pasture lands, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Hammothdor with its pasture lands, and Kartan with its pasture lands; three cities. ³³ All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities with their pasture lands. ³⁴ And unto the families of the children of Merari, the rest of the Levites, out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam with its pasture lands, and Kartah with its pasture lands, ³⁵ Dimnah with its pasture lands, Nahalal with its pasture lands; four cities. ³⁶ And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with its pasture lands, and Jahaz with its pasture lands, ³⁷ Kedemoth with its pasture lands, and Mephaath with its pasture lands; four cities. ³⁸ And out of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead with its pasture lands, to be a city of refuge for the slayer; and Mahanaim with its pasture lands, ³⁹ Heshbon with its pasture lands, Jazer with its pasture lands; four cities in all. ⁴⁰ So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, who were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities. ⁴¹ All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their pasture lands. ⁴² These cities were every one with their pasture lands round about them: thus were all these cities. ⁴³ And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he swore to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt there. ⁴⁴ And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he swore unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. ⁴⁵ There failed not any of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.

⁵⁴ Now these are their dwelling places throughout their settlements in their territory, of the sons of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites: for theirs was the lot. ⁵⁵ And they gave them Hebron in the land of Judah, and their pasture lands round about it. ⁵⁶ But the fields of the city, and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. ⁵⁷ And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of Judah, namely, Hebron, the city of refuge, and Libnah with its pasture lands, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa, with their pasture lands, ⁵⁸ And Hilen with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands, ⁵⁹ And Ashan with its pasture lands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasture lands: ⁶⁰ And out of the tribe of Benjamin; Geba with its pasture lands, and Alemeth with its pasture lands, and Anathoth with its pasture lands. All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities. ⁶¹ And unto the sons of Kohath, who were left of the family of that tribe, were cities given out of the half tribe, namely, out of the half tribe of Manasseh, by lot, ten cities. ⁶² And to the sons of Gershom throughout their families out of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. ⁶³ Unto the sons of Merari were given by lot, throughout their families, out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities. ⁶⁴ And the children of Israel gave to the Levites these cities with their pasture lands. ⁶⁵ And they gave by lot out of the tribe of the children of Judah, and out of the tribe of the children of Simeon, and out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, these cities, which are called by their names. ⁶⁶ And the rest of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their territory out of the tribe of Ephraim. ⁶⁷ And they gave unto them, of the cities of refuge, Shechem in mount Ephraim with its pasture lands; they gave also Gezer with its pasture lands, ⁶⁸ And Jokmeam with its pasture lands, and Beth-horon with its pasture lands, ⁶⁹ And Aijalon with its pasture lands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasture lands: ⁷⁰ And out of the half tribe of Manasseh; Aner with its pasture lands, and Bileam with its pasture lands, for the family of the rest of the sons of Kohath. ⁷¹ Unto the sons of Gershom were given out of the family of the half tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan with its pasture lands, and Ashtaroth with its pasture lands: ⁷² And out of the tribe of Issachar; Kedesh with its pasture lands, Daberath with its pasture lands, ⁷³ And Ramoth with its pasture lands, and Anem with its pasture lands: ⁷⁴ And out of the tribe of Asher; Mashal with its pasture lands, and Abdon with its pasture lands, ⁷⁵ And Hukok with its pasture lands, and Rehob with its pasture lands: ⁷⁶ And out of the tribe of Naphtali; Kedesh in Galilee with its pasture lands, and Hammon with its pasture lands, and Kiriathaim with its pasture lands. ⁷⁷ Unto the rest of the children of Merari were given out of the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmono with its pasture lands, Tabor with its pasture lands: ⁷⁸ And on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, were given them out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness with its pasture lands, and Jahzah with its pasture lands, ⁷⁹ Kedemoth also with its pasture lands, and Mephaath with its pasture lands: ⁸⁰ And out of the tribe of Gad; Ramoth in Gilead with its pasture lands, and Mahanaim with its pasture lands, ⁸¹ And Heshbon with its pasture lands, and Jazer with its pasture lands.
