¹⁰ And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

⁵ Trust not in a friend, put not confidence in a companion: keep the doors of your mouth from her that lies in your bosom. ⁶ For the son dishonors the father, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

²¹ And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

³⁵ For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. ³⁶ And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

⁶ And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

²¹ Yet has he not root in himself, but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he is offended.

⁵⁷ And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country, and in his own house.

²¹ And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. ²² And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? ²³ And he answered and said, He that dips his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. ²⁴ The Son of man goes as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.

³¹ Then said Jesus unto them, All you shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. ³² But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. ³³ Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of you, yet will I never be offended. ³⁴ Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto you, That this night, before the cock crows, you shall deny me three times.

¹⁷ And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
