¹⁰ And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.

¹⁶ But they mocked the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scoffed at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against his people, till there was no remedy.

³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword has devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them you shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall you scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: ³⁵ That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom you slew between the temple and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

²⁷ And immediately the king sent an executioner, and commanded his head to be brought: and he went and beheaded him in the prison, ²⁸ And brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl: and the girl gave it to her mother. ²⁹ And when his disciples heard of it, they came and took up his corpse, and laid it in a tomb.

¹³ But I say unto you, That Elijah has indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they desired, as it is written of him.

⁹ And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.

⁷ And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
