⁵⁴ Waters flowed over my head; then I said, I am cut off.

¹¹ My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart. ¹² They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness. ¹³ If I wait, the grave is my house: I have made my bed in the darkness. ¹⁴ I have said to corruption, You are my father: to the worm, You are my mother, and my sister. ¹⁵ And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it? ¹⁶ They shall go down to the gates of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.

⁴ The sorrows of death surrounded me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.

²² For I said in my haste, I am cut off from before your eyes: nevertheless you heard the voice of my supplications when I cried unto you.

¹ [To the Chief Musician upon shoshannim. A Psalm of David.] Save me, O God; for the waters have come in unto my soul. ² I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

¹⁵ Let not the floodwater overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

⁴ Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul: ⁵ Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

¹⁰ I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the rest of my years. ¹¹ I said, I shall not see the LORD, even the LORD, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world. ¹² My age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd's tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off from the loom: from day even to night will you make an end of me. ¹³ I considered till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night will you make an end of me.

¹⁸ And I said, My strength and my hope has perished from the LORD:

¹¹ Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off on our part.

³ For you had cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods surrounded me: all your billows and your waves passed over me. ⁴ Then I said, I am cast out of your sight; yet I will look again toward your holy temple. ⁵ The waters surrounded me, even to the soul: the deep closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

⁸ For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life: ⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead: ¹⁰ Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
