²⁰ They that come after him shall be astounded at his day, as they that went before were frightened.

²³ And that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and burning, that it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor any grass grows therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath: ²⁴ Even all nations shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land? what does the heat of this great anger mean?

⁸ And at this house, which is exalted, every one that passes by it shall be astonished, and shall hiss; and they shall say, Why has the LORD done thus unto this land, and to this house?

¹² And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they lifted up their voice, and wept; and they tore every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads toward heaven. ¹³ So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spoke a word unto him: for they saw that his grief was very great.

¹³ He has put my brethren far from me, and my acquaintances are wholly estranged from me. ¹⁴ My kinsfolk have failed, and my close friends have forgotten me. ¹⁵ They that dwell in my house, and my maidservants, count me as a stranger: I am an alien in their sight. ¹⁶ I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I entreated him with my mouth. ¹⁷ My breath is repulsive to my wife, though I make supplication for the children of my own body. ¹⁸ Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spoke against me. ¹⁹ All my close friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved have turned against me.

¹³ The Lord shall laugh at him: for he sees that his day is coming.

⁷ Remember, O LORD, the children of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Raze it, raze it, even to the foundation thereof.

¹⁶ To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; everyone that passes by it shall be astonished, and shake his head.

²⁷ Slay all her bullocks; let them go down to the slaughter: woe unto them! for their day has come, the time of their punishment.

²⁵ And you, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end,

¹¹ In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even you were as one of them. ¹² But you should not have looked down on the day of your brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither should you have spoken proudly in the day of distress. ¹³ You should not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, you should not have looked down on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity; ¹⁴ Neither should you have stood at the crossroads, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither should you have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress. ¹⁵ For the day of the LORD is near upon all the nations: as you have done, it shall be done unto you: your reward shall return upon your own head.

⁴² Saying, If you had known, even you, at least in this your day, the things which belong unto your peace! but now they are hid from your eyes.

⁴⁴ And shall lay you even with the ground, and your children within you; and they shall not leave in you one stone upon another; because you knew not the time of your visitation.
