⁵ When a man has taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall bring happiness to his wife whom he has taken.

²⁴ Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

⁷ And what man is there that has betrothed a wife, and has not taken her? let him go and return unto his house, lest he die in the battle, and another man take her.

¹⁸ Let your fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of your youth.

⁹ Live joyfully with the wife whom you love all the days of the life of your vanity, which he has given you under the sun, all the days of your vanity: for that is your portion in this life, and in your labor which you perform under the sun.

⁴ And he answered and said unto them, Have you not read, that he who made them at the beginning made them male and female, ⁵ And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they two shall be one flesh? ⁶ Therefore they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.

¹⁰ And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: ¹¹ But if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. ¹² But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother has a wife that believes not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. ¹³ And the woman who has a husband that believes not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. ¹⁴ For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. ¹⁵ But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God has called us to peace.

²⁹ But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remains, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;

²⁸ So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loves his wife loves himself. ²⁹ For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord the church:

⁴ That they may teach the young women to be sensible, to love their husbands, to love their children, ⁵ To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
