²³ And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

¹⁹ Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivers him out of them all.

¹¹ You brought us into the net; you laid affliction upon our backs. ¹² You have caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but you brought us out into a wealthy place.

¹ [A song of ascents. Of David.] If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say; ² If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: ³ Then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us: ⁴ Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul: ⁵ Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul.

⁶ Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the cistern of Malchiah the son of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let down Jeremiah with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire: so Jeremiah sank in the mire.

⁵² My enemies chased me hard, like a bird, without cause. ⁵³ They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and cast a stone upon me. ⁵⁴ Waters flowed over my head; then I said, I am cut off.

¹⁶ Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spoke and said unto Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you. ¹⁷ And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.

⁸ For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, so that we despaired even of life: ⁹ But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead: ¹⁰ Who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

¹⁷ For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

¹² Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to test you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: ¹³ But rejoice, since you are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy.
