¹¹ As you know how we exhorted and encouraged and charged every one of you, as a father does his children,

¹⁶ And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Your father did command before he died, saying, ¹⁷ So shall you say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray you now, the trespass of your brothers, and their sin; for they did unto you evil: and now, we pray you, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father. And Joseph wept when they spoke unto him.

¹⁹ And set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and give him a charge in their sight.

²⁸ But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which you shall see.

¹⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, your days approach that you must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of meeting, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of meeting.

¹¹ Now, my son, the LORD be with you; and prosper you, and build the house of the LORD your God, as he has said of you. ¹² Only the LORD give you wisdom and understanding, and give you charge concerning Israel, that you may keep the law of the LORD your God. ¹³ Then shall you prosper, if you take heed to fulfill the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.

⁹ And you, Solomon my son, know you the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts: if you seek him, he will be found of you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.

²⁰ And David said to Solomon his son, Be strong and of good courage, and do it: fear not, nor be dismayed: for the LORD God, even my God, will be with you; he will not fail you, nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD.

¹¹ Come, you children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

¹⁰ My son, if sinners entice you, consent not.

¹⁵ My son, walk not in the way with them; refrain your foot from their path:

¹ My son, if you will receive my words, and lay up my commandments with you;

¹ My son, forget not my law; but let your heart keep my commandments:

¹ Hear, you children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. ² For I give you good doctrine, forsake not my law. ³ For I was my father's son, tender and the only one in the sight of my mother. ⁴ He taught me also, and said unto me, Let your heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. ⁵ Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither turn away from the words of my mouth. ⁶ Forsake her not, and she shall preserve you: love her, and she shall keep you. ⁷ Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding. ⁸ Exalt her, and she shall promote you: she shall bring you to honor, when you do embrace her. ⁹ She shall give to your head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to you. ¹⁰ Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of your life shall be many. ¹¹ I have taught you in the way of wisdom; I have led you in right paths. ¹² When you go, your steps shall not be hindered; and when you run, you shall not stumble.

¹ My son, be attentive to my wisdom, and incline your ear to my understanding: ² That you may preserve discretion, and that your lips may keep knowledge.

¹ My son, if you become surety for your friend, if you have struck your hand with a stranger,

¹ My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with you.

²⁴ Hearken unto me now therefore, O you children, and attend to the words of my mouth.

¹ The words of king Lemuel, the prophecy that his mother taught him. ² What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? ³ Give not your strength unto women, nor your ways to that which destroys kings. ⁴ It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink: ⁵ Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the justice of any of the afflicted. ⁶ Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. ⁷ Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more. ⁸ Open your mouth for the dumb, for the cause of all who are left desolate. ⁹ Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.

² And when he had gone through those parts, and had given them much exhortation, he came into Greece,

¹⁴ I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you. ¹⁵ For though you have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet have you not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

¹⁷ This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

⁷ But we were gentle among you, even as a nurse cherishes her children:

¹ Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as you have received of us how you ought to walk and to please God, so you would abound more and more.

¹¹ Therefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also you do.

¹² Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.

⁷ And these things give in a charge, that they may be blameless.

²¹ I charge you before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that you observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

² And they that have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brethren; but rather do them service, because they are believers and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.

¹³ I give you charge in the sight of God, who brings all things to life, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession;

¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this present age, that they be not haughty, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

¹ I charge you therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the living and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; ² Preach the word; be diligent in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

⁶ Young men likewise exhort to be sensible.

⁹ Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not talking back;

¹⁵ These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise you.

²² And I beseech you, brethren, bear with the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words.
