¹ Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the exiles scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, ² Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. ³ Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. ⁶ In which you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you are in heaviness through manifold trials: ⁷ That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perishes, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: ⁸ Whom having not seen, you love; in whom, though now you see him not, yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: ⁹ Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. ¹⁰ Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: ¹¹ Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when he testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. ¹² Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. ¹³ Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; ¹⁴ As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: ¹⁵ But as he who has called you is holy, so be holy in all manner of conduct; ¹⁶ Because it is written, You will be holy; for I am holy. ¹⁷ And if you call on the Father, who without respect of persons judges according to every man's work, pass the time of your exile here in fear: ¹⁸ Since you know that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain manner of life received by tradition from your fathers; ¹⁹ But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: ²⁰ Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, ²¹ Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. ²² Seeing you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto sincere love of the brethren, see that you love one another with a pure heart fervently: ²³ Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever. ²⁴ For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower thereof falls away: ²⁵ But the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

¹⁵ And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.

⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

⁴⁴ For I am the LORD your God: you shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and you shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall you defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.

² Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, You shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy.

⁷ Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be you holy: for I am the LORD your God.

³³ And I will scatter you among the nations, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

⁶ For you are a holy people unto the LORD your God: the LORD your God has chosen you to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

¹⁷ For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, mighty, and awesome, who regards not persons, nor takes reward:

⁶⁴ And the LORD shall scatter you among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there you shall serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known, even wood and stone.

²⁶ I said, I would scatter them into corners, I would make the remembrance of them to cease from among men:

¹⁹ Oh how great is your goodness, which you have laid up for them that fear you; which you have wrought for them that trust in you before the sons of men!

²³ The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delights in his way. ²⁴ Though he falls, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholds him with his hand.

²⁸ For the LORD loves justice, and forsakes not his saints; they are preserved forever: but the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.

⁶ Surely every man walks in a vain show: surely they are in turmoil in vain: he heaps up riches, and knows not who shall gather them.

¹² Hear my prayer, O LORD, and give ear unto my cry; hold not your peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with you, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

⁵ Why are you cast down, O my soul? and why are you disturbed within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

⁷ None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: ⁸ (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceases forever:)

¹ [A song of ascents.] They that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abides forever. ² As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from this time forth even forever.

⁶ Let them be as the grass upon the housetops, which withers before it grows up:

³ Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. ⁴ His breath goes forth, he returns to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. ⁵ Happy is he that has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God:

²³ Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.

⁴ If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures;

⁸ He keeps the paths of justice, and preserves the way of his saints.

¹³ Happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets understanding. ¹⁴ For the gain from it is better than the gain from silver, and the profit thereof than fine gold. ¹⁵ She is more precious than rubies: and all the things you can desire are not to be compared unto her.

¹⁹ My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver.

²³ I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, before the earth was.

¹⁶ A wise man fears, and departs from evil: but the fool rages, and is confident.

¹⁶ How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

³ The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD tries the hearts.

¹⁴ Happy is the man that is reverent always: but he that hardens his heart shall fall into calamity.

¹⁴ But those riches are lost by a bad venture: when he begets a son, there is nothing in his hand.

⁷ Tell me, O you whom my soul loves, where you feed, where you make your flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turns aside by the flocks of your companions?

⁹ What is your beloved more than another beloved, O you fairest among women? what is your beloved more than another beloved, that you so charge us?

¹⁶ His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.

³ And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.

⁶ For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. ⁷ Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

² And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; ³ And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: ⁴ But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked. ⁵ And righteousness shall be the belt of his loins, and faithfulness the belt of his waist.

¹⁶ You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that you should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever you shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you. ¹⁷ These things I command you, that you love one another.

⁷ Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. ⁸ And when he is come, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: ⁹ Of sin, because they believe not on me; ¹⁰ Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you see me no more; ¹¹ Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. ¹² I have yet many things to say unto you, but you cannot bear them now. ¹³ But when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come. ¹⁴ He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it unto you. ¹⁵ All things that the Father has are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it unto you.

²² And you now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man takes from you.

³³ These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

² And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. ³ And there appeared unto them separated tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. ⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. ⁵ And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. ⁶ Now when this was sounded abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because every man heard them speak in his own language. ⁷ And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these who speak Galileans? ⁸ And how hear we every man in our own tongue, in which we were born? ⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, ¹⁰ Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, Jews and proselytes, ¹¹ Cretans and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

¹⁶ For Paul had determined to sail past Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hastened, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost. ¹⁷ And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. ¹⁸ And when they were come to him, he said unto them, You know, from the first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you at all times,

²⁸ Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he has purchased with his own blood.

³² And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them who are sanctified.

¹⁸ To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them who are sanctified by faith that is in me.

²² Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying no other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come: ²³ That Christ should suffer, and that he should be the first that should rise from the dead, and should proclaim light unto the people, and to the Gentiles.

But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: ²¹ That as sin has reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

⁴ Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. ⁷ What then? Israel has not obtained that which it seeks for; but the election has obtained it, and the rest were blinded

²⁰ Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Be not arrogant, but fear:

²⁸ As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but concerning the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.

² And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

⁹ Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. ¹⁰ Be tender loving one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;

¹² Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; constant in prayer;

¹³ Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

¹⁹ The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.

⁴⁰ God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
