¹⁰ and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.

²¹ (22:20) And a stranger shalt thou not wrong, neither shalt thou oppress him; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. ²² (22:21) Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. ²³ (22:22) If thou afflict them in any wise - for if they cry at all unto Me, I will surely hear their cry - ²⁴ (22:23) My wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

⁹ And a stranger shalt thou not oppress; for ye know the heart of a stranger, seeing ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.

¹⁴ Thou shalt not oppress a hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates. ¹⁵ In the same day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD and it be sin in thee. ¹⁶ The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers; every man shall be put to death for his own sin. ¹⁷ Thou shalt not pervert the justice due to the stranger, or to the fatherless; nor take the widow's raiment to pledge. ¹⁸ But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence; therefore I command thee to do this thing.

¹⁹ Cursed be he that perverteth the justice due to the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say: Amen.

¹¹ (21:12) For they intended evil against thee, they imagined a device, wherewith they shall not prevail.

⁴ (36:5) He deviseth iniquity upon his bed; he setteth himself in a way that is not good; he abhorreth not evil.

⁴ May he judge the poor of the people, and save the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor.

² (140:3) Who devise evil things in their heart; every day do they stir up wars.

²⁹ Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

¹⁸ A heart that deviseth wicked thoughts, feet that are swift in running to evil;

²² Rob not the weak, because he is weak, neither crush the poor in the gate; ²³ For the LORD will plead their cause, and despoil of life those that despoil them.

¹⁰ Remove not the ancient landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless; ¹¹ For their Redeemer is strong; He will plead their cause with thee.

¹⁶ Wash you, make you clean, put away the evil of your doings from before Mine eyes, cease to do evil; ¹⁷ Learn to do well; seek justice, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

²³ Thy princes are rebellious, and companions of thieves; every one loveth bribes, and followeth after rewards; they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come unto them.

²⁸ They are waxen fat, they are become sleek; yea, they overpass in deeds of wickedness; they plead not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, that they might make it to prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

¹⁹ But I was like a docile lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me: 'Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.' ²⁰ But, O LORD of hosts, that judgest righteously, that triest the reins and the heart, let me see Thy vengeance on them; for unto Thee have I revealed my cause.

¹⁸ Then said they: 'Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for instruction shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.'

¹⁵ Shalt thou reign, because thou strivest to excel in cedar? Did not thy father eat and drink, and do justice and righteousness? Then it was well with him. ¹⁶ He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well. Is not this to know Me? saith the LORD. ¹⁷ But thine eyes and thy heart are not but for thy covetousness, and for shedding innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

⁷ In thee have they made light of father and mother; in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger; in thee have they wronged the fatherless and the widow.

¹² In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken interest and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by oppression, and hast forgotten Me, saith the Lord GOD.

²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have wronged the poor and needy, and have oppressed the stranger unlawfully.

¹ Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, that oppress the poor, that crush the needy, that say unto their lords: 'Bring, that we may feast.'

¹¹ Therefore, because ye trample upon the poor, and take from him exactions of wheat; ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them, ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine thereof. ¹² For I know how manifold are your transgressions, and how mighty are your sins; ye that afflict the just, that take a ransom, and that turn aside the needy in the gate.

¹ Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they execute it, because it is in the power of their hand. ² And they covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away; thus they oppress a man and his house, even a man and his heritage. ³ Therefore thus saith the LORD: Behold, against this family do I devise an evil, from which ye shall not remove your necks, neither shall ye walk upright; for it shall be an evil time.

¹ And I said: Hear, I pray you, ye heads of Jacob, and rulers of the house of Israel: is it not for you to know justice? ² Who hate the good, and love the evil; who rob their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones; ³ Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them, and break their bones; yea, they chop them in pieces, as that which is in the pot, and as flesh within the caldron. ⁴ Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but He will not answer them; yea, He will hide His face from them at that time, according as they have wrought evil in their doings.

¹ Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city! ² She hearkened not to the voice, she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD, she drew not near to her God. ³ Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are wolves of the desert, they leave not a bone for the morrow.

¹⁷ and let none of you devise evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath; for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.'

⁵ And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers; and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not Me, saith the LORD of hosts.

¹³ But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, even while for a pretence ye make long prayers; therefore ye shall receive greater condemnation.

²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, evil thoughts proceed, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²² thefts, covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness; ²³ all these evil things proceed from within, and defile the man.

¹⁰ nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

¹⁴ but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. ¹⁵ Then the lust, when it hath conceived, beareth sin; and the sin, when it is fullgrown, bringeth forth death.

⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out; and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

¹⁵ Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer; and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in himself.
