² 'I will rise now, and go about the city, in the streets and in the broad ways, I will seek him whom my soul loveth.' I sought him, but I found him not.

¹ (22:1) For the Leader; upon Aijeleth ha-Shahar. A Psalm of David. (22:2) My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me, and art far from my help at the words of my cry? ² (22:3) O my God, I call by day, but Thou answerest not; and at night, and there is no surcease for me.

⁷ (42:8) Deep calleth unto deep at the voice of Thy cataracts; all Thy waves and Thy billows are gone over me. ⁸ (42:9) By day the LORD will command His lovingkindness, and in the night His song shall be with me, even a prayer unto the God of my life. ⁹ (42:10) I will say unto God my Rock: 'Why hast Thou forgotten me? Why go I mourning under the oppression of the enemy?'

² For Thou art the God of my strength; why hast Thou cast me off? Why go I mourning under the oppression of the enemy? ³ O send out Thy light and Thy truth; let them lead me; let them bring me unto Thy holy mountain, and to Thy dwelling-places. ⁴ Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God, my exceeding joy; and praise Thee upon the harp, O God, my God. ⁵ Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why moanest thou within me? Hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the salvation of my countenance, and my God.

⁷ (77:8) 'Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will He be favourable no more? ⁸ (77:9) Is His mercy clean gone for ever? Is His promise come to an end for evermore? ⁹ (77:10) Hath God forgotten to be gracious? Hath He in anger shut up his compassions?' Selah ¹⁰ (77:11) And I say: 'This is my weakness, that the right hand of the Most High could change.

²⁰ Wisdom crieth aloud in the streets, she uttereth her voice in the broad places; ²¹ She calleth at the head of the noisy streets, at the entrances of the gates, in the city, she uttereth her words:

² In the top of high places by the way, where the paths meet, she standeth; ³ Beside the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors, she crieth aloud:

³⁴ Happy is the man that hearkeneth to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors.

⁵ I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with flowing myrrh, upon the handles of the bar.

⁷ (64:6) And there is none that calleth upon Thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of Thee; for Thou hast hid Thy face from us, and hast consumed us by means of our iniquities.

¹ Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that doeth justly, that seeketh truth; and I will pardon her.

Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor and maimed and blind and lame. ²² And the servant said, Lord, what thou didst command is done, and yet there is room. ²³ And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and constrain them to come in, that my house may be filled.

⁶ There came a man, sent from God, whose name was John.

¹¹ And this, knowing the season, that already it is time for you to awake out of sleep; for now is salvation nearer to us than when we first believed.

³⁴ Awake to soberness righteously, and sin not, for some have no knowledge of God; I speak this to move you to shame.

¹⁴ Wherefore he saith, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine upon thee.
