²⁸ He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as foliage.

¹² lest when thou hast eaten and art satisfied, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein; ¹³ and when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied; ¹⁴ then thy heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;

²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold: 'Thou art my confidence'; ²⁵ If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much;

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by streams of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in its season, and whose leaf doth not wither; and in whatsoever he doeth he shall prosper.

⁶ (49:7) Of them that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches?

⁷ (52:9) 'Lo, this is the man that made not God his stronghold; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.' ⁸ (52:10) But as for me, I am like a leafy olive-tree in the house of God; I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

²⁴ And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God! ²⁵ It is easier for a camel to enter through the eye of the needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is thy soul required of thee, and the things which thou hast prepared, whose shall they be?

¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy,
