¹⁰ And the LORD'S anger was kindled in that day, and He swore, saying:

¹¹ And the LORD said unto Moses: 'How long will this people despise Me? and how long will they not believe in Me, for all the signs which I have wrought among them?

²¹ But in very deed, as I live - and all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD -

²³ surely they shall not see the land which I swore unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that despised Me see it.

²⁹ your carcasses shall fall in this wilderness, and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, ye that have murmured against Me;

³⁴ And the LORD heard the voice of your words, and was wroth, and swore, saying: ³⁵ 'Surely there shall not one of these men, even this evil generation, see the good land, which I swore to give unto your fathers, ³⁶ save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, he shall see it; and to him will I give the land that he hath trodden upon, and to his children; because he hath wholly followed the LORD.' ³⁷ Also the LORD was angry with me for your sakes, saying: Thou also shalt not go in thither; ³⁸ Joshua the son of Nun, who standeth before thee, he shall go in thither; encourage thou him, for he shall cause Israel to inherit it. ³⁹ Moreover your little ones, that ye said should be a prey, and your children, that this day have no knowledge of good or evil, they shall go in thither, and unto them will I give it, and they shall possess it. ⁴⁰ But as for you, turn you, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea.'

¹¹ Wherefore I swore in My wrath, that they should not enter into My rest.'

¹⁵ Yet also I lifted up My hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given them, flowing with milk and honey, which is the beauty of all lands;

⁸ Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, Like as in the day of the trial in the wilderness, ⁹ Where your fathers tried me, they proved me, And saw my works forty years. ¹⁰ Wherefore I was displeased with that generation, And said, They do always err in their heart; But they did not know my ways, ¹¹ As I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest. ¹² Take heed, brethren, lest haply there shall be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God: ¹³ but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called To-day, lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin: ¹⁴ for we are become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm unto the end: ¹⁵ while it is said, To-day if ye shall hear his voice, Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. ¹⁶ For who, when they heard, did provoke? nay, did not all they that came out of Egypt by Moses? ¹⁷ And with whom was he displeased forty years? was it not with them that sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? ¹⁸ And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that were disobedient? ¹⁹ And we see that they were not able to enter in because of unbelief.
