⁶ and the rest laid hold on his servants, and treated them shamefully, and killed them.

¹⁰ Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness' sake; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are ye when men shall reproach you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. ¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad; for great is your reward in heaven; for so persecuted they the prophets that were before you.

¹² And as ye enter into the house, salute it. ¹³ And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it; but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. ¹⁴ And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, as ye go out of that house or that city, shake off the dust of your feet. ¹⁵ Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment, than for that city. ¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves. ¹⁷ But beware of men; for they will deliver you up to councils, and in theirs synagogues they will scourge you, ¹⁸ yea and before governors and kings shall ye be brought for my sake, for a testimony to them and to the Gentiles.

²² And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake; but he that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. ²³ But when they persecute you in this city, flee to the other; for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone through the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come. ²⁴ A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his lord. ²⁵ It is enough for the disciple that he be as his teacher, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more them of his household!

³⁵ And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. ³⁶ Again, he sent other servants more than the first; and they did unto them in like manner. ³⁷ But afterward he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. ³⁸ But the husbandmen, when they saw the son, said among themselves, This is the heir, come, let us kill him, and take his inheritance. ³⁹ And they took him, and cast him forth out of the vineyard, and killed him.

³⁴ Therefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes; and some of them shall ye kill and crucify, and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute from city to city; ³⁵ that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar. ³⁶ Verily I say unto you that all these things shall come upon this generation. ³⁷ O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that killeth the prophets, and stoneth them that are sent unto her! how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her own chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

¹⁹ If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said unto you, A servant is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you, if they kept my word, they will keep yours also.

² They shall put you out of the synagogues; yea, the hour cometh, that whosoever killeth you shall think that he offereth service unto God. ³ And these things will they do, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

¹ And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, ² being sore troubled because they taught the people, and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. ³ And they laid hands on them, and put them in ward unto the morrow; for it was now eventide.

⁴⁰ And to him they agreed; and when they had called the apostles unto them, they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. ⁴¹ They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name of Jesus.

⁵¹ Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do ye. ⁵² Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them that showed before of the coming of the Righteous One, of whom ye have now become betrayers and murderers, ⁵³ ye who received the law as it was ordained by angels, and kept it not. ⁵⁴ Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. ⁵⁵ But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, ⁵⁶ and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God. ⁵⁷ But they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and rushed upon him with one accord,

¹ And Saul was consenting unto his death. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church which was in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

¹⁴ For ye, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God which are in Judea in Christ Jesus; for ye also suffered the same things of your own countrymen, even as they did of the Jews, ¹⁵ who both killed the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and drove out us, and pleased not God, and are contrary to all men,
