³⁴ Ye offspring of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

¹³ (24:14) As saith the proverb of the ancients: Out of the wicked cometh forth wickedness; but my hand shall not be upon thee.

⁶ He saith in his heart: 'I shall not be moved, I who to all generations shall not be in adversity.' ⁷ His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is mischief and iniquity.

² (52:4) Thy tongue deviseth destruction; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. ³ (52:5) Thou lovest evil more than good; falsehood rather than speaking righteousness. ⁶ For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise ungodliness, and to utter wickedness against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and to cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

⁴ None sueth in righteousness, and none pleadeth in truth; they trust in vanity, and speak lies, they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.

¹⁴ And justice is turned away backward, and righteousness standeth afar off; for truth hath stumbled in the broad place, and uprightness cannot enter.

² Stand in the gate of the LORD'S house, and proclaim there this word, and say: Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD. ³ Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. ⁴ Trust ye not in lying words, saying: 'The temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, are these.' ⁵ Nay, but if ye thoroughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye thoroughly execute justice between a man and his neighbour;

⁷ But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

³⁵ The good man out of his good treasure bringeth forth good things; and the evil man out of his evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

¹⁸ But the things which proceed out of the mouth come forth out of the heart, and they defile the man.

³³ Ye serpents, ye offspring of vipers, how shall ye escape the judgment of hell?

⁷ He said therefore to the multitudes that went out to be baptized of him, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

⁴⁵ The good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good, and the evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil; for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

⁴⁴ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar, and the father thereof.

¹⁰ as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one, ¹¹ There is none that understandeth, There is none that seeketh after God, ¹² They have all turned aside, they are together become unprofitable, There is none that doeth good, no, not, so much as one: ¹³ Their throat is an open sepulchre, With their tongues they have used deceit; The poison of asps is under their lips: ¹⁴ Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

²⁹ Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.

⁵ So the tongue also is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how much wood is kindled by how small a fire! ⁶ And the tongue is a fire, the world of iniquity. Thus is the tongue set among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the wheel of nature, and is set on fire by hell. ⁷ For every kind of beasts and birds, of creeping things and things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed by mankind. ⁸ But the tongue can no man tame, it is an unruly evil, it is full of deadly poison.

¹⁰ In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil; whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.
