³⁸ and standing behind at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

⁴ Let now a little water be fetched, and wash your feet, and recline yourselves under the tree.

⁹ They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them; I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble; for I am become a father to Israel, and Ephraim is My first-born.

Is he a child that is dandled? For as often as I speak of him, I do earnestly remember him still; Therefore My heart yearneth for him, I will surely have compassion upon him, saith the LORD.

¹² Yet even now, saith the LORD, turn ye unto Me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with lamentation;

¹⁰ And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look unto Me because they have thrust him through; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born.

⁴ Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted.

²¹ Blessed are ye that hunger now; for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now; for ye shall laugh.

⁴⁴ And turning to the woman, he said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house, thou gavest me no water for my feet; but she hath wetted my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. ⁴⁵ Thou gavest me no kiss; but she, since the time I came in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet. ⁴⁶ My head with oil thou didst not anoint; but she hath anointed my feet with ointment.

⁶² And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁴ riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments, and he took a towel, and girded himself. ⁵ Then he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

¹⁰ For godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation, a repentance which bringeth no regret; but the sorrow of the world worketh death. ¹¹ For behold, this selfsame thing, that ye were made sorry after a godly sort, what earnest care it wrought in you, yea what clearing of yourselves, yea what indignation, yea what fear, yea what longing, yea what zeal, yea what avenging! In everything ye approved yourselves to be pure in the matter.

⁹ Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep; let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.
