³² Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and thou shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD.

²⁸ And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spoke unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said: 'Why art thou come down? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy presumptuousness, and the naughtiness of thy heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.' ²⁹ And David said: 'What have I now done? Was it not but a word?' ³⁰ And he turned away from him toward another, and spoke after the same manner; and the people answered him after the former manner.

⁷ Art thou the first man that was born? Or wast thou brought forth before the hills?

¹⁰ With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men, much older than thy father.

⁷ Render to all their dues; tribute to whom tribute is due, custom to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor.

¹ Rebuke not an elder, but exhort him as a father, the younger men as brethren:

⁶ the younger men likewise exhort to be sober-minded:

⁵ Likewise, ye younger, be subject unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another. Gird yourselves with humility, for God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.
