⁵ 'Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel: Like these good figs, so will I regard the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good.

¹⁶ who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that He might afflict thee, and that He might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

¹² Happy is the man whom Thou instructest, O LORD, and teachest out of Thy law; ¹³ That Thou mayest give him rest from the days of evil, until the pit be digged for the wicked. ¹⁴ For the LORD will not cast off His people, neither will He forsake His inheritance.

⁶⁷ Before I was afflicted, I did err; but now I observe Thy word.

⁷¹ It is good for me that I have been afflicted, in order that I might learn Thy statutes.

⁷ The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that take refuge in Him.

⁹ And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried; they shall call on My name, and I will answer them; I will say: 'It is My people', and they shall say: 'The LORD is my God.'

¹² But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me;

²⁸ And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.

³ but if any man loveth God, the same is known by him.

⁹ but now that ye have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how turn ye back again to the weak and beggarly rudiments, whereunto ye desire to be in bondage over again?

¹⁹ Howbeit the firm foundation of God standeth, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his; and, Let every one that nameth the name of the Lord depart from unrighteousness.

⁵ and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons, My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord, Nor faint when thou art reproved of him, ⁶ For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, And scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. ⁷ It is for chastening that ye endure, God dealeth with you as with sons, for what son is there whom his father chasteneth not? ⁸ But if ye are without chastening, whereof all have been made partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. ⁹ Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we gave them reverence; shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? ¹⁰ For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.

¹⁹ As many as I love, I reprove and chasten; be zealous therefore, and repent.
