⁶ But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats?

¹¹ And the men of his city, even the elders and the nobles who dwelt in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them, according as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them. ¹² They proclaimed a fast, and set Naboth at the head of the people. ¹³ And the two men, the base fellows, came in and sat before him; and the base fellows bore witness against him, even against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying: 'Naboth did curse God and the king.' Then they carried him forth out of the city, and stoned him with stones, that he died.

¹⁹ For he hath oppressed and forsaken the poor; he hath violently taken away a house, and he shall not build it up.

² Through the pride of the wicked the poor is hotly pursued, they are taken in the devices that they have imagined.

⁸ He sitteth in the lurking-places of the villages; in secret places doth he slay the innocent; his eyes are on the watch for the helpless.

¹⁰ He croucheth, he boweth down, and the helpless fall into his mighty claws.

¹⁴ Thou hast seen; for Thou beholdest trouble and vexation, to requite them with Thy hand; unto Thee the helpless committeth himself; Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.

⁵ (12:6) 'For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise', saith the LORD; 'I will set him in safety at whom they puff.'

⁶ Ye would put to shame the counsel of the poor, but the LORD is his refuge.

³¹ He that oppresseth the poor blasphemeth his Maker; but he that is gracious unto the needy honoureth Him.

⁵ Whoso mocketh the poor blasphemeth his Maker; and he that is glad at calamity shall not be unpunished.

¹⁶ One may oppress the poor, yet will their gain increase; one may give to the rich, yet will want come.

⁸ (5:7) If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and the violent perverting of justice and righteousness in the state, marvel not at the matter; for one higher than the high watcheth, and there are higher than they.

¹⁵ now there was found in it a man poor and wise, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. ¹⁶ Then said I: 'Wisdom is better than strength; nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.'

¹⁴ The LORD will enter into judgment with the elders of His people, and the princes thereof: 'It is ye that have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses; ¹⁵ What mean ye that ye crush My people, and grind the face of the poor?' saith the Lord, the GOD of hosts.

³ He was despised, and forsaken of men, a man of pains, and acquainted with disease, and as one from whom men hide their face: he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

⁶ Thus saith the LORD: For three transgressions of Israel, yea, for four, I will not reverse it: because they sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; ⁷ That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the humble; and a man and his father go unto the same maid, to profane My holy name;

¹ Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, that oppress the poor, that crush the needy, that say unto their lords: 'Bring, that we may feast.'

¹¹ Therefore, because ye trample upon the poor, and take from him exactions of wheat; ye have built houses of hewn stone, but ye shall not dwell in them, ye have planted pleasant vineyards, but ye shall not drink wine thereof.

⁴ Hear this, O ye that would swallow the needy, and destroy the poor of the land, ⁵ Saying: 'When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? and the sabbath, that we may set forth corn? making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances of deceit; ⁶ That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the refuse of the corn?'

¹¹ 'Shall I be pure with wicked balances, and with a bag of deceitful weights?' ¹² For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

¹⁴ Thou hast stricken through with his own rods the head of his rulers, that come as a whirlwind to scatter me; whose rejoicing is as to devour the poor secretly.

¹⁰ and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart.

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, I have not a demon, but I honor my Father, and ye dishonor me.

¹ And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, ² being sore troubled because they taught the people, and proclaimed in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. ³ And they laid hands on them, and put them in ward unto the morrow; for it was now eventide.

²⁶ The kings of the earth set themselves in array, And the rulers were gathered together, Against the Lord, and against his Anointed: ²⁷ for of a truth against thy holy Servant Jesus, whom thou didst anoint, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, were gathered together, ²⁸ to do whatsoever thy hand and thy council foreordained to come to pass.

¹⁷ But the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with jealousy, ¹⁸ and laid hands on the apostles, and put them in public ward.

²⁶ Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them, but without violence, for they feared the people, lest they should be stoned. ²⁷ And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest asked them,

³ But Saul laid waste the church, entering into every house, and dragging men and women committed them to prison.

⁵⁰ But the Jews urged on the devout women, and the women of honorable estate, and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their borders.

¹⁹ But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they laid hold on Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers, ²⁰ and when they had brought them unto the magistrates, they said, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,

⁶ And when they found them not, they dragged Jason and certain brethren before the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also,

¹² But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment-seat,

²² What, have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and put them to shame that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you? In this I praise you not.

³ and ye have regard to him that weareth the fine clothing, and say unto him, Sit thou here in a good place, and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit under my footstool,

⁴ Behold, the hire of the laborers who mowed your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth out; and the cries of them that reaped have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth.

⁶ Ye have condemned, ye have killed the righteous one, he doth not resist you.
