¹⁸ And therefore will the LORD wait, that He may be gracious unto you, and therefore will He be exalted, that He may have compassion upon you; for the LORD is a God of justice, happy are all they that wait for Him.

⁶ And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed: 'The LORD, the LORD, God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth;

⁴ The Rock, His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice; a God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and right is He.

³ Multiply not exceeding proud talk; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth; for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by Him actions are weighed.

¹⁴ Yea, when thou sayest thou canst not see Him - the cause is before Him; therefore wait thou for Him.

¹² Do homage in purity, lest He be angry, and ye perish in the way, when suddenly His wrath is kindled. Happy are all they that take refuge in Him.

¹⁴ Wait on the LORD; be strong, and let thy heart take courage; yea, wait thou for the LORD.

⁶ Blessed be the LORD, because He hath heard the voice of my supplications. ⁷ The LORD is my strength and my shield, in Him hath my heart trusted, and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth, and with my song will I praise Him.

⁸ (34:9) O consider and see that the LORD is good; happy is the man that taketh refuge in Him.

⁴ The strength also of the king who loveth justice - Thou hast established equity, Thou hast executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.

²⁰ He that giveth heed unto the word shall find good; and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.

¹⁶ But the LORD of hosts is exalted through justice, and God the Holy One is sanctified through righteousness.

¹⁷ And I will wait for the LORD, that hideth His face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for Him.

⁴ For thus hath the LORD said unto me: I will hold Me still, and I will look on in My dwelling-place, like clear heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.

⁹ And it shall be said in that day: 'Lo, this is our God, for whom we waited, that He might save us; this is the LORD, for whom we waited, we will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.'

⁷ The way of the just is straight; Thou, Most Upright, makest plain the path of the just. ⁸ Yea, in the way of Thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for Thee; to Thy name and to Thy memorial is the desire of our soul.

⁵ The LORD is exalted, for He dwelleth on high; He hath filled Zion with justice and righteousness.

¹⁰ Now will I arise, saith the LORD; now will I be exalted; now will I lift Myself up. ¹¹ Ye conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble; your breath is a fire that shall devour you. ¹² And the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime; as thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire.

³¹ But they that wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

¹ Behold My servant, whom I uphold; Mine elect, in whom My soul delighteth; I have put My spirit upon him, he shall make the right to go forth to the nations. ² He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. ³ A bruised reed shall he not break, and the dimly burning wick shall he not quench; he shall make the right to go forth according to the truth. ⁴ He shall not fail nor be crushed, till he have set the right in the earth; and the isles shall wait for his teaching.

¹⁴ I have long time held My peace, I have been still, and refrained Myself; now will I cry like a travailing woman, gasping and panting at once.

⁸ For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, saith the LORD.

¹⁷ For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth and smote him, I hid Me and was wroth; and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart. ¹⁸ I have seen his ways, and will heal him; I will lead him also, and requite with comforts him and his mourners.

²⁴ O LORD, correct me, but in measure; not in Thine anger, lest Thou diminish me. ²⁵ Pour out Thy wrath upon the nations that know Thee not, and upon the families that call not on Thy name; for they have devoured Jacob, yea, they have devoured him and consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.

⁷ Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose trust the LORD is.

¹⁸ I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself: 'Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf untrained; turn thou me, and I shall be turned, for Thou art the LORD my God. ¹⁹ Surely after that I was turned, I repented, and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh; I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.' ²⁰ Is Ephraim a darling son unto Me? Is he a child that is dandled? For as often as I speak of him, I do earnestly remember him still; Therefore My heart yearneth for him, I will surely have compassion upon him, saith the LORD.

²⁵ The LORD is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeketh Him. ²⁶ It is good that a man should quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.

¹⁴ (2:16) Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly unto her.

¹⁵ I will go and return to My place, till they acknowledge their guilt, and seek My face; in their trouble they will seek Me earnestly:

⁸ How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? How shall I surrender thee, Israel? How shall I make thee as Admah? How shall I set thee as Zeboim? My heart is turned within Me, My compassions are kindled together. ⁹ I will not execute the fierceness of Mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim; for I am God, and not man, the Holy One in the midst of thee; and I will not come in fury.

⁴ And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he proclaimed, and said: 'Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.' ⁵ And the people of Nineveh believed God; and they proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. ⁶ And the tidings reached the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. ⁷ And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying: 'Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing; let them not feed, nor drink water; ⁸ but let them be covered with sackcloth, both man and beast, and let them cry mightily unto God; yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. ⁹ Who knoweth whether God will not turn and repent, and turn away from His fierce anger, that we perish not?' ¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, which He said He would do unto them; and He did it not.

⁷ 'But as for me, I will look unto the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me. ⁸ Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy; though I am fallen, I shall arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD is a light unto me. ⁹ I will bear the indignation of the LORD, because I have sinned against Him; until He plead my cause, and execute judgment for me; He will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold His righteousness.

¹⁸ Who is a God like unto Thee, that pardoneth the iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He retaineth not His anger for ever, because He delighteth in mercy. ¹⁹ He will again have compassion upon us; He will subdue our iniquities; and Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. ²⁰ Thou wilt show faithfulness to Jacob, mercy to Abraham, as Thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.

¹⁷ Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say: 'Wherein have we wearied Him?' In that ye say: 'Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and He delighteth in them; or where is the God of justice?'

²² And behold, a Canaanitish woman came out from those borders, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou son of David, my daughter is grievously vexed with a demon. ²³ But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away, for she crieth after us. ²⁴ But he answered and said, I was not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. ²⁵ But she came and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. ²⁶ And he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread and cast it to the dogs. ²⁷ But she said, Yea, Lord; for even the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. ²⁸ Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith; be it done unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that hour.

²⁵ And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel; and the Holy Spirit was upon him.

²⁰ And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet afar off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.

²⁶ Behooved it not the Christ to suffer these things, and to enter into his glory? ²⁷ And beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

³³ Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye now see and hear. ³⁴ For David ascended not into the heavens; but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, ³⁵ Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet. ³⁶ Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified. ³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do? ³⁸ And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. ³⁹ For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him.

³¹ Him did God exalt with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins.

² And we know that the judgment of God is according to truth against them that practice such things. ³ And reckonest thou this, O man, who judgest them that practice such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God? ⁴ Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? ⁵ but after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up for thyself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation, and of the righteous judgment of God, ⁶ who will render to every man according to his works: ⁷ to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life: ⁸ but unto them that are factious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, shall be wrath and indignation, ⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek, ¹⁰ but glory and honor and peace to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek:

²⁰ And the law came in besides, that the trespass might abound, but where sin abounded, grace did abound more exceedingly:

²⁵ But if we hope for that which we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. ²⁶ And in like manner the Spirit also helpeth our infirmity; for we know not how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered, ²⁷ and he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. ²⁸ And we know that to them that love God all things work together for good, even to them that are called according to his purpose.

¹⁵ For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. ¹⁶ So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that hath mercy. ¹⁷ For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, For this very purpose did I raise thee up, that I might show in thee my power, and that my name might be published abroad in all the earth. ¹⁸ So then he hath mercy on whom he will, and whom he will be hardeneth.

²² What if God, willing to show his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering vessels of wrath fitted unto destruction:

⁶ to the praise of the glory of his grace, by which he bestowed favor on us in the Beloved:

⁸ which he made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence,

²⁰ which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and made him to sit at his right hand in the heavenly places, ²¹ far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: ²² and he put all things in subjection under his feet, and gave him to be head over all things to the church, ²³ which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all.

¹¹ Behold, we call them blessed that endured; ye have heard of the patience of Job, and the end wrought of the Lord, see that he is full of pity, and merciful.

⁹ The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering to us-ward, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

¹⁵ And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation, even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote unto you,
