¹ The elder unto Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth. ² Beloved, I pray that in all things thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. ³ For I rejoiced greatly, when brethren came and bare witness unto thy truth, even as thou walkest in truth. ⁴ Greater joy have I none than this, to hear of my children walking in truth. ⁵ Beloved, thou doest a faithful work in whatsoever thou doest toward them that are brethren and toward strangers, ⁶ who bare witness to thy love before the church; whom thou wilt do well to set forward on their journey worthily of God: ⁷ because that for the sake of the Name they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles. ⁸ We therefore ought to welcome such, that we may be fellow-workers for the truth. ⁹ I wrote unto the church; but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. ¹⁰ Therefore, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he doeth, prating against us with wicked words; and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and them that would he forbiddeth and casteth them out of the church. ¹¹ Beloved, imitate not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God; he that doeth evil hath not seen God. ¹² Demetrius hath the witness of all men, and of the truth itself; yea, we also bear witness; and ye know that our witness is true. ¹³ I had many things to write, but I am unwilling to write them to thee with ink and pen: ¹⁴ but I hope shortly to see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be unto thee. The friends salute thee. Salute the friends by name.

⁷ If thou doest well, shall it not be lifted up? and if thou doest not well, sin coucheth at the door; and unto thee is its desire, but thou mayest rule over it.'

²³ And he said: 'Peace be to you, fear not; your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks; I had your money.' And he brought Simeon out unto them.

² Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou bear witness in a cause to turn aside after a multitude to pervert justice;

⁴ that the LORD may establish His word which He spoke concerning me, saying: If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee, said He, a man on the throne of Israel.

⁶ And Solomon said: 'Thou hast shown unto Thy servant David my father great kindness, according as he walked before Thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with Thee; and Thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that Thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

¹⁵ And he returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said: 'Behold now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel; now therefore, I pray thee, take a present of thy servant.' ¹⁶ But he said: 'As the LORD liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none.' And he urged him to take it; but he refused.

²⁰ But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said: 'Behold, my master hath spared this Naaman the Aramean, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought; as the LORD liveth, I will surely run after him, and take somewhat of him.' ²¹ So Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw one running after him, he alighted from the chariot to meet him, and said: 'Is all well?' ²² And he said: 'All is well. My master hath sent me, saying: Behold, even now there are come to me from the hill-country of Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of raiment.' ²³ And Naaman said: 'Be content, take two talents.' And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of raiment, and laid them upon two of his servants; and they bore them before him. ²⁴ And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and deposited them in the house; and he let the men go, and they departed. ²⁵ But he went in, and stood before his master. And Elisha said unto him: 'Whence comest thou, Gehazi?' And he said: 'Thy servant went no whither.' ²⁶ And he said unto him: 'Went not my heart with thee, when the man turned back from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards and vineyards, and sheep and oxen, and men-servants and maid-servants? ²⁷ The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever.' And he went out from his presence a leper as white as snow.

³ 'Remember now, O LORD, I beseech Thee, how I have walked before Thee in truth and with a whole heart, and have done that which is good in Thy sight.' And Hezekiah wept sore.

¹ (20:1) For the Leader. A Psalm of David. (20:2) The LORD answer thee in the day of trouble; the name of the God of Jacob set thee up on high; ² (20:3) Send forth thy help from the sanctuary, and support thee out of Zion; ³ (20:4) Receive the memorial of all thy meal-offerings, and accept the fat of thy burnt-sacrifice; Selah ⁴ (20:5) Grant thee according to thine own heart, and fulfil all thy counsel. ⁵ (20:6) We will shout for joy in thy victory, and in the name of our God we will set up our standards; the LORD fulfil all thy petitions.

¹ A Psalm of David. Judge me, O LORD, for I have walked in mine integrity, and I have trusted in the LORD without wavering. ² Examine me, O LORD, and try me; test my reins and my heart. ³ For Thy mercy is before mine eyes; and I have walked in Thy truth.

¹⁴ (34:15) Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

¹¹ Thy word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against Thee.

⁵ Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at His word: Your brethren that hate you, that cast you out for My name's sake, have said: 'Let the LORD be glorified, that we may gaze upon your joy', but they shall be ashamed.

⁴ And the LORD said: 'Art thou greatly angry?'

¹⁴ And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, as ye go out of that house or that city, shake off the dust of your feet.

She saith unto him, Command that these my two sons may sit, one on thy right hand, and one on thy left hand, in thy kingdom. ²² But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able. ²³ He saith unto them, My cup indeed ye shall drink, and with the baptism that I am baptized, shall ye be baptized; but to sit on my right hand, and on my left hand, is not mine to give, but it is for them for whom it hath been prepared of my Father. ²⁴ And when the ten heard it, they were moved with indignation concerning the two brethren. ²⁵ But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. ²⁶ But it shall not be so among you; but whosoever would become great among you shall be your minister, ²⁷ and whosoever would be first among you, let him be your servant; ²⁸ even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

⁴ For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders, but they will not move them with their finger. ⁵ { But all their works they do to be seen of men; and they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, ⁶ and love the chief place at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, ⁷ and the salutations in the marketplaces, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. ⁸ But be not ye called Rabbi; for one is your teacher, even Christ, and all ye are brethren.

⁴⁵ Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath set over his household servants, to give them their food in due season?

²¹ And his lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things, enter thou into the joy of thy lord. ²² And he also that received the two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents; lo, I have gained other two talents beside them. ²³ His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will set thee over many things, enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

³⁴ But they held their peace; for they had disputed one with another on the way, who was the greatest.

⁷ and he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed, I cannot rise and give thee?

⁴² And the Lord said, Who then is the faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall set over his household servants, to give them their portion of food in due season?

¹⁰ He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he that is unrighteous in a very little is unrighteous also in much. ¹¹ { If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? ¹² And if ye have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?

²⁴ And there arose also a contention among them, which of them was accounted to be greatest. ²⁵ And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles have lordship over them, and they that have authority over them are called Benefactors. ²⁶ But ye shall not be so; but he that is the greater among you, let him become as the younger, and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. ²⁷ For which is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am in the midst of you as he that serveth.

²⁰ For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his works should be reproved.

²² These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

³⁴ They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out. ³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out, and finding him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

³ To him the porter openeth, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

²⁷ My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me;

²⁶ If any man serve me, let him follow me, and where I am, there shall also my servant be; if any man serve me, him will the Father honor.

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not; and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. ³⁶ While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from them.

³⁵ And he that hath seen hath borne witness, and his witness is true; and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye also may believe.

²⁴ This is the disciple that beareth witness of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his witness is true.

⁴¹ They therefore departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name of Jesus.

⁴ They therefore that were scattered abroad, went about preaching the word.

¹⁶ for I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name's sake.

²² And they said, Cornelius a centurion, a righteous man and one that feareth God, and well reported of by all the nation of the Jews, was warned of God by a holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words from thee.

³ They therefore, being brought on their way by the church, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles; and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

²⁹ that ye abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication, from which if ye keep yourselves, it shall be well with you. Fare ye well.

²⁹ And the whole city was filled with the confusion; and they rushed with one accord into the theatre, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel.

⁴ And there accompanied him as far as Asia, Sopater of Beroea, and of the Thessalonians, Aristarchus and Secundus, and Gaius of Derbe, and Timothy, and of Asia, Tychicus and Trophimus.

⁵ And when it came to pass that we had accomplished the days, we departed and went on our journey, and they all, with wives and children, brought us on our way till we were out of the city; and kneeling down on the beach, we prayed, and bade each other farewell,

¹² And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews that dwelt there,

⁸ First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is proclaimed throughout the whole world. ⁹ For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the gospel of his Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you, always in my prayers

¹⁴ I thank God that I baptized none of you, save Crispus and Gaius,

⁵ What then is Apollos? and what is Paul? Ministers through whom ye believed, and each as the Lord gave to him. ⁶ I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase. ⁷ So then neither is he that planteth anything, neither he that watereth, but God that giveth the increase. ⁸ Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one; but each shall receive his own reward according to his own labor. ⁹ For we are God's fellow-workers; ye are God's husbandry, God's building.

¹⁴ I write not these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children. ¹⁵ For though ye have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I begat you through the gospel. ¹⁶ I beseech you therefore, be ye imitators of me.

¹ It is actually reported that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not even named among the Gentiles, that one of you hath his father's wife. ² And ye are puffed up, and did not rather mourn, that he that had done this deed might be taken away from among you. ³ For I verily, being absent in body but present in spirit, have already as though I were present judged him that hath so wrought this thing, ⁴ in the name of our Lord Jesus, ye being gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus, ⁵ to deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

¹² If others partake of this right over you, do not we yet more? Nevertheless we did not use this right, but we bear all things, that we may cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ. ¹³ Know ye not that they that minister about sacred things eat of the things of the temple, and they that wait upon the altar have their portion with the altar? ¹⁴ Even so did the Lord ordain that they that proclaim the gospel should live of the gospel. ¹⁵ But I have used none of these things; and I write not these things that it may be so done in my case, for it were good for me rather to die, than that any man should make my glorying void.

¹⁸ What then is my reward? That, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, so as not to use to the full my right in the gospel.

¹ Be ye imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ.

¹⁰ Now if Timothy come, see that he be with you without fear, for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do: ¹¹ let no man therefore despise him. But set him forward on his journey in peace, that he may come unto me; for I expect him with the brethren.

¹⁶ and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and of you to be set forward on my journey unto Judea.

¹ Therefore seeing we have this ministry, even as we obtained mercy, we faint not: ² but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. ³ And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish:

⁵ For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.

¹ And working together with him we entreat also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain

² Open your hearts to us; we wronged no man, we corrupted no man, we took advantage of no man. ³ I say it not to condemn you; for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die together and live together.

⁶ Nevertheless he that comforteth the lowly, even God, comforted us by the coming of Titus, ⁷ and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort wherewith he was comforted in you, while he told us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced yet more.

²³ Whether any inquire about Titus, he is my partner and my fellow-worker to you-ward, or our brethren, they are the messengers of the churches, they are the glory of Christ.

¹ Now I Paul myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, I who in your presence am lowly among you, but being absent am of good courage toward you: ² yea, I beseech you, that I may not when present show courage with the confidence wherewith I count to be bold against some, who count of us as if we walked according to the flesh. ³ For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh ⁴ (for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the casting down of strongholds), ⁵ casting down imaginations, and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, ⁶ and being in readiness to avenge all disobedience, when your obedience shall be made full. ⁷ Ye look at the things that are before your face. If any man trusteth in himself that he is Christ's, let him consider this again with himself, that, even as he is Christ's, so also are we. ⁸ For though I should glory somewhat abundantly concerning our authority (which the Lord gave us for building you up, and not for casting you down), I shall not be put to shame: ⁹ that I may not seem as if I would terrify you by my letters. ¹⁰ For, His letters, they say, are weighty and strong, but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech of no account. ¹¹ Let such a one reckon this, that, what we are in word by letters when we are absent, such are we also in deed when we are present.

⁷ Or did I commit a sin in abasing myself that ye might be exalted, because I preached to you the gospel of God for nought? ⁸ I robbed other churches, taking wages of them that I might minister unto you, ⁹ and when I was present with you and was in want, I was not a burden on any man, for the brethren, when they came from Macedonia, supplied the measure of my want, and in everything I kept myself from being burdensome unto you, and so will I keep myself.

¹³ For what is there wherein ye were made inferior to the rest of the churches, except it be that I myself was not a burden to you? forgive me this wrong.

² I have said beforehand, and I do say beforehand, as when I was present the second time, so now, being absent, I write to them that have sinned heretofore, and to all the rest, that, if I come again, I will not spare,

¹⁴ But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest as do the Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

¹⁹ My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you—

¹⁶ But I say, walk by the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

¹⁰ So then, as we have opportunity, let us work that which is good toward all men, and especially toward them that are of the household of the faith.

¹⁵ For this cause I also, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which is among you, and the love which ye show toward all the saints, ¹⁶ cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers,

¹ Be ye therefore imitators of God, as beloved children,

²³ Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁴ always in every supplication of mine on behalf of you all making my supplication with joy,

³ doing nothing through faction or through vainglory, but in lowliness of mind each counting other better than himself, ⁴ not looking each of you to his own things, but each of you also to the things of others.

¹⁰ to walk worthily of the Lord unto all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God,

²⁴ Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and fill up on my part that which is lacking of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church,

¹⁷ And whatsoever ye do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
