¹⁷ But the Lord stood by me, and strengthened me, that through me the message might me fully proclaimed, and that all the Gentiles might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

³⁷ And David said: 'The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, He will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine.' And Saul said unto David: 'Go, and the LORD shall be with thee.'

¹⁰ For I have heard the whispering of many, terror on every side: 'Denounce, and we will denounce him'; even of all my familiar friends, them that watch for my halting: 'Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.' ¹¹ But the LORD is with me as a mighty warrior; therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be greatly ashamed, because they have not prospered, even with an everlasting confusion which shall never be forgotten.

¹⁹ But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak; for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak.

²³ For there stood by me this night an angel of the God whose I am, whom also I serve, ²⁴ saying, Fear not, Paul, thou must stand before Caesar; and lo, God hath granted thee all them that sail with thee.

⁹ And he hath said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee; for my power is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

⁸ Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, was this grace given, to preach unto the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

¹² Now I would have you know, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the progress of the gospel, ¹³ so that my bonds became manifest in Christ throughout the whole praetorian guard, and to all the rest, ¹⁴ and that most of the brethren in the Lord, being confident through my bonds, are more abundantly bold to speak the word of God without fear.

¹² I thank him that enabled me, even Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he counted me faithful, appointing me to his service,

¹¹ persecutions, sufferings. What things befell me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra, what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.

³³ who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

⁸ Be sober, be watchful; your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour,

⁹ the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment,
