⁵ For this cause I also, when I could no longer forbear, sent that I might know your faith, lest by any means the tempter had tempted you, and our labor should be in vain.

⁴ But I said: 'I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought and vanity; yet surely my right is with the LORD, and my recompense with my God.'

³ And the tempter came and said unto him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.

³⁶ And after some days Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us return now and visit the brethren in every city wherein we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they fare.

⁵ Defraud ye not one the other, except it be by consent for a season, that ye may give yourselves unto fasting and prayer, and come together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency.

¹¹ that no advantage may be gained over us by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his devices.

⁵ For even when we were come into Macedonia our flesh had no relief, but we were afflicted on every side, without were fightings, within were fears. ⁶ Nevertheless he that comforteth the lowly, even God, comforted us by the coming of Titus, ⁷ and not by his coming only, but also by the comfort wherewith he was comforted in you, while he told us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced yet more.

² For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy; for I espoused you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ. ³ But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve in his craftiness, your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is toward Christ.

¹³ For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, fashioning themselves into apostles of Christ. ¹⁴ And no marvel, for even Satan fashioneth himself into an angel of light. ¹⁵ It is no great thing therefore if his ministers also fashion themselves as ministers of righteousness, whose end shall be according to their works.

⁶ I marvel that ye are so quickly removing from him that called you in the grace of Christ unto a different gospel, ⁷ which is not another gospel only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. ⁸ But though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema. ⁹ As we have said before, so say I now again, if any man preacheth unto you any gospel other than that which ye received, let him be anathema.

² And I went up by revelation, and I laid before them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles but privately before them who were of repute, lest by any means I should be running, or had run, in vain.

¹¹ I am afraid of you, lest by any means I have bestowed labor upon you in vain.

¹⁴ that we may be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error,

¹⁶ holding forth the word of life, that I may have whereof to glory in the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain neither labor in vain.

¹ For yourselves, brethren, know our entering in unto you, that it hath not been found vain:

¹ Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left behind at Athens alone, ² and sent Timothy, our brother, and a minister of God, and our fellow-worker in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith,

⁶ But when Timothy came even now unto us from you, and brought us glad tidings of your faith and love, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, longing to see us, even as we also to see you,

¹³ Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God, for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempteth no man: ¹⁴ but each man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed.
