¹⁰ Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and righteously and unblameably we behaved ourselves toward you that believe:

¹⁵ And Moses was very wroth, and said unto the LORD: 'Respect not Thou their offering; I have not taken one ass from them, neither have I hurt one of them.'

³ Here I am; witness against me before the LORD, and before His anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? or whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I taken a ransom to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you.' ⁴ And they said: 'Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man's hand.' ⁵ And he said unto them: 'The LORD is witness against you, and His anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand.' And they said: 'He is witness.'

¹¹ For when the ear heard me, then it blessed me, and when the eye saw me, it gave witness unto me; ¹² Because I delivered the poor that cried, the fatherless also, that had none to help him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me; and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. ¹⁴ I put on righteousness, and it clothed itself with me; my justice was as a robe and a diadem. ¹⁵ I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father to the needy; and the cause of him that I knew not I searched out. ¹⁷ And I broke the jaws of the unrighteous, and plucked the prey out of his teeth.

¹ I made a covenant with mine eyes; how then should I look upon a maid? ² For what would be the portion of God from above, and the heritage of the Almighty from on high? ³ Is it not calamity to the unrighteous, and disaster to the workers of iniquity? ⁴ Doth not He see my ways, and count all my steps? ⁵ If I have walked with vanity, and my foot hath hasted to deceit - ⁶ Let me be weighed in a just balance, that God may know mine integrity - ⁷ If my step hath turned out of the way, and my heart walked after mine eyes, and if any spot hath cleaved to my hands; ⁸ Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let the produce of my field be rooted out. ⁹ If my heart have been enticed unto a woman, and I have lain in wait at my neighbour's door; ¹⁰ Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her. ¹¹ For that were a heinous crime; yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges. ¹² For it is a fire that consumeth unto destruction, and would root out all mine increase. ¹³ If I did despise the cause of my man-servant, or of my maid-servant, when they contended with me - ¹⁴ What then shall I do when God riseth up? And when He remembereth, what shall I answer Him? ¹⁵ Did not He that made me in the womb make him? And did not One fashion us in the womb? ¹⁶ If I have withheld aught that the poor desired, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; ¹⁷ Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof - ¹⁸ Nay, from my youth he grew up with me as with a father, and I have been her guide from my mother's womb. ¹⁹ If I have seen any wanderer in want of clothing, or that the needy had no covering; ²⁰ If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; ²¹ If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, because I saw my help in the gate; ²² Then let my shoulder fall from the shoulder-blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone. ²³ For calamity from God was a terror to me, and by reason of His majesty I could do nothing. ²⁴ If I have made gold my hope, and have said to the fine gold: 'Thou art my confidence'; ²⁵ If I rejoiced because my wealth was great, and because my hand had gotten much; ²⁶ If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness; ²⁷ And my heart hath been secretly enticed, and my mouth hath kissed my hand; ²⁸ This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judges; for I should have lied to God that is above. ²⁹ If I rejoiced at the destruction of him that hated me, or exulted when evil found him - ³⁰ Yea, I suffered not my mouth to sin by asking his life with a curse. ³¹ If the men of my tent said not: 'Who can find one that hath not been satisfied with his meat?' ³² The stranger did not lodge in the street; my doors I opened to the roadside. ³³ If after the manner of men I covered my transgressions, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom - ³⁴ Because I feared the great multitude, and the most contemptible among families terrified me, so that I kept silence, and went not out of the door. ³⁵ Oh that I had one to hear me! - Lo, here is my signature, let the Almighty answer me - and that I had the indictment which mine adversary hath written! ³⁶ Surely I would carry it upon my shoulder; I would bind it unto me as a crown. ³⁷ I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him. ³⁸ If my land cry out against me, and the furrows thereof weep together; ³⁹ If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the tillers thereof to be disappointed -

³ (7:4) O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands; ⁴ (7:5) If I have requited him that did evil unto me, or spoiled mine adversary unto emptiness; ⁵ (7:6) Let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it, and tread my life down to the earth; yea, let him lay my glory in the dust. Selah

²⁰ (18:21) The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath He recompensed me. ²¹ (18:22) For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. ²² (18:23) For all His ordinances were before me, and I put not away His statutes from me. ²³ (18:24) And I was single-hearted with Him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity. ²⁴ (18:25) Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.

²⁰ Shall evil be recompensed for good? For they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before Thee to speak good for them, to turn away Thy wrath from them.

¹⁸ And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye yourselves know, from the first day that I set foot in Asia, after what manner I was with you all the time,

²⁶ Wherefore I testify unto you this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men.

³³ I coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel. ³⁴ Ye yourselves know that these hands ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me.

¹⁶ Herein I also exercise myself, having a conscience void of offense toward God and men always.

¹² For our glorying is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

² but we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by the manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.

¹¹ Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men, but we are made manifest unto God, and I hope that we are made manifest also in your consciences.

³ giving no occasion of stumbling in anything, that our ministration be not blamed, ⁴ but in everything commending ourselves, as ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, ⁵ in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in fastings, ⁶ in pureness, in knowledge, in long suffering, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in love unfeigned, ⁷ in the word of truth, in the power of God, by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left, ⁸ by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report, as deceivers, and yet true, ⁹ as unknown, and yet well known, as dying, and behold, we live, as chastened, and not killed, ¹⁰ as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing, as poor, yet making many rich, as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

² Open your hearts to us; we wronged no man, we corrupted no man, we took advantage of no man.

¹¹ Wherefore? because I love you not? God knoweth.

³¹ The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, he who is blessed for evermore knoweth that I lie not.

⁵ how that our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit, and in much assurance, even as ye know what manner of men we showed ourselves toward you for your sake.

⁵ For neither at any time were we found using words of flattery, as ye know, nor a cloak of covetousness, God is witness,

⁷ For yourselves know how ye ought to imitate us; for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you,

¹² Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an ensample to them that believe, in word, in manner of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

¹⁰ But thou didst follow my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, patience,

⁷ in all things showing thyself an ensample of good works, in thy doctrine showing uncorruptness, gravity, incorruptible, ⁸ sound speech, that cannot be condemned, that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of us.

³ neither as lording it over the charge allotted to you, but making yourselves ensamples to the flock.
