²⁶ I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan; very pleasant hast thou been unto me; wonderful was thy love to me, passing the love of women.

¹⁴ And David sent messengers to Ish-bosheth Saul's son, saying: 'Deliver me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to me for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.'

² In times past, when Saul was king over us, it was thou that didst lead out and bring in Israel; and the LORD said to thee: Thou shalt feed My people Israel, and thou shalt be prince over Israel.'

¹⁸ Then David the king went in, and sat before the LORD; and he said: 'Who am I, O Lord GOD, and what is my house, that Thou hast brought me thus far?

¹ And David said: 'Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?' ² Now there was of the house of Saul a servant whose name was Ziba, and they called him unto David; and the king said unto him: 'Art thou Ziba?' And he said: 'Thy servant is he.' ³ And the king said: 'Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God unto him?' And Ziba said unto the king: 'Jonathan hath yet a son, who is lame on his feet.'

¹ And it came to pass, at the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem.

¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying: 'Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.'

⁹ Wherefore hast thou despised the word of the LORD, to do that which is evil in My sight? Uriah the Hittite thou hast smitten with the sword, and his wife thou hast taken to be thy wife, and him thou hast slain with the sword of the children of Ammon.

²⁸ And Absalom commanded his servants, saying: 'Mark ye now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine; and when I say unto you: Smite Amnon, then kill him, fear not; have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.' ²⁹ And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and every man got him up upon his mule, and fled.

⁸ Hushai said moreover: 'Thou knowest thy father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are embittered in their minds, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field; and thy father is a man of war, and will not lodge with the people. ⁹ Behold, he is hid now in some pit, or in some place; and it will come to pass, when they fall upon them at the first, and whosoever heareth it shall say: There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom; ¹⁰ then even he that is valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, will utterly melt; for all Israel knoweth that thy father is a mighty man, and they that are with him are valiant men. ¹¹ But I counsel that all Israel be gathered together unto thee, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude; and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD'S oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. ⁸ But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite;

²² And king Solomon answered and said unto his mother: 'And why dost thou ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? ask for him the kingdom also; for he is mine elder brother; even for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah.'

⁷ And now, O LORD my God, Thou hast made Thy servant king instead of David my father; and I am but a little child; I know not how to go out or come in.

²⁹ And it was so, when midday was past, that they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening offering; but their was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

¹² And all the prophets prophesied so, saying: 'Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper; for the LORD will deliver it into the hand of the king.'

²⁰ And the LORD said: Who shall entice Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead. And one said: On this manner; and another said: On that manner. ²¹ And there came forth the spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said: I will entice him. ²² And the LORD said unto him: Wherewith? And he said: I will go forth, and will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And He said: Thou shalt entice him, and shalt prevail also; go forth, and do so. ²³ Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets; and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.'

¹³ And again he sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him: 'O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.

¹⁷ (12:18) And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them: 'If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, my heart shall be knit unto you; but if ye be come to betray me to mine adversaries, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and give judgment.'

⁵ And when Haman saw that Mordecai bowed not down, nor prostrated himself before him, then was Haman full of wrath.

⁸ let royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and on whose head a crown royal is set; ⁹ and let the apparel and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man therewith whom the king delighteth to honour, and cause him to ride on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him: Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honour.'

³ And he shall be like a tree planted by streams of water, that bringeth forth its fruit in its season, and whose leaf doth not wither; and in whatsoever he doeth he shall prosper.

¹⁴ (7:15) Behold, he travaileth with iniquity; yea, he conceiveth mischief, and bringeth forth falsehood. ¹⁵ (7:16) He hath digged a pit, and hollowed it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. ¹⁶ (7:17) His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violence shall come down upon his own pate.

² (12:3) They speak falsehood every one with his neighbour; with flattering lip, and with a double heart, do they speak.

⁷ Lift up your heads, O ye gates, and be ye lifted up, ye everlasting doors; that the King of glory may come in. ⁸ 'Who is the King of glory?' 'The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.'

¹ (36:1) For the Leader. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD. (36:2) Transgression speaketh to the wicked, methinks - there is no fear of God before his eyes. ² (36:3) For it flattereth him in his eyes, until his iniquity be found, and he be hated. ³ (36:4) The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit; he hath left off to be wise, to do good.

¹² The wicked plotteth against the righteous, and gnasheth at him with his teeth. ¹³ The Lord doth laugh at him; for He seeth that his day is coming. ¹⁴ The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow; to cast down the poor and needy, to slay such as are upright in the way;

³² The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. ³³ The LORD will not leave him in his hand, nor suffer him to be condemned when he is judged.

¹² (38:13) They also that seek after my life lay snares for me; and they that seek my hurt speak crafty devices, and utter deceits all the day.

³ (48:4) God in her palaces hath made Himself known for a stronghold. ⁴ (48:5) For, lo, the kings assembled themselves, they came onward together. ⁵ (48:6) They saw, straightway they were amazed; they were affrighted, they hasted away. ⁶ (48:7) Trembling took hold of them there, pangs, as of a woman in travail.

¹¹ (51:13) Cast me not away from Thy presence; and take not Thy holy spirit from me.

⁵ (53:6) There are they in great fear, where no fear was; for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee; Thou hast put them to shame, because God hath rejected them.

²¹ (55:22) Smoother than cream were the speeches of his mouth, but his heart was war; his words were softer than oil, yet were they keen-edged swords.

²⁵ (68:26) The singers go before, the minstrels follow after, in the midst of damsels playing upon timbrels.

¹¹ Teach me, O LORD, Thy way, that I may walk in Thy truth; make one my heart to fear Thy name.

⁵ Well is it with the man that dealeth graciously and lendeth, that ordereth his affairs rightfully.

¹⁵ Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints.

⁹⁹ I have more understanding than all my teachers; for Thy testimonies are my meditation.

¹⁴¹ I am small and despised; yet have I not forgotten Thy precepts.

⁸ The LORD shall guard thy going out and thy coming in, from this time forth and for ever.

¹⁰ By pride cometh only contention; but with the well-advised is wisdom.

²⁰ The poor is hated even of his own neighbour; but the rich hath many friends.

³³ The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour goeth humility.

¹² Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, and before honour goeth humility.

²⁴ There are friends that one hath to his own hurt; but there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

⁶ Many will entreat the favour of the liberal man; and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts. ⁷ All the brethren of the poor do hate him; how much more do his friends go far from him! He that pursueth words, they turn against him.

²⁴ He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, but he layeth up deceit within him. ²⁵ When he speaketh fair, believe him not; for there are seven abominations in his heart. ²⁶ Though his hatred be concealed with deceit, his wickedness shall be revealed before the congregation.

⁴ Wrath is cruel, and anger is overwhelming; but who is able to stand before jealousy?

⁵ A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his steps.

¹² If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood, all his servants are wicked.

⁴ Again, I considered all labour and all excelling in work, that it is a man's rivalry with his neighbour. This also is vanity and a striving after wind.

¹⁵ now there was found in it a man poor and wise, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. ¹⁶ Then said I: 'Wisdom is better than strength; nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.'

¹⁷ No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their due reward from Me, saith the LORD.

¹⁰ I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of victory, as a bridegroom putteth on a priestly diadem, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels.

⁶ Then said I: 'Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak; for I am a child.'

²⁶ For among My people are found wicked men; they pry, as fowlers lie in wait; they set a trap, they catch men.

⁸ (9:7) Their tongue is a sharpened arrow, it speaketh deceit; one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in his heart he layeth wait for him.

² 'Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, saying: I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. ³ Within two full years will I bring back into this place all the vessels of the LORD'S house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried them to Babylon; ⁴ and I will bring back to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went to Babylon, saith the LORD; for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.'

¹¹ And Hananiah spoke in the presence of all the people, saying: 'Thus saith the LORD: Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from off the neck of all the nations within two full years.' And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.

¹¹ For the LORD hath ransomed Jacob, and He redeemeth him from the hand of him that is stronger than he. ¹² And they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow unto the goodness of the LORD, to the corn, and to the wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd; and their soul shall be as a watered garden, and they shall not pine any more at all. ¹³ Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

²⁰ And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his realm.

⁴ (6:5) Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel as touching the kingdom; but they could find no occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him. ⁵ (6:6) Then said these men: 'We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him in the matter of the law of his God.'

¹² Yea, though they bring up their children, yet will I bereave them, that there be not a man left; yea, woe also to them when I depart from them!

² And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered; and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land. ³ And it shall come to pass that, when any shall yet prophesy, then his father and his mother that begot him shall say unto him: 'Thou shalt not live, for thou speakest lies in the name of the LORD'; and his father and his mother that begot him shall thrust him through when he prophesieth. ⁴ And it shall come to pass in that day, that the prophets shall be brought to shame every one through his vision, when he prophesieth; neither shall they wear a hairy mantle to deceive; ⁵ but he shall say: 'I am no prophet, I am a tiller of the ground; for I have been made a bondman from my youth.'

²³ Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, And they shall call his name Immanuel, which is, being interpreted, God with us.

¹⁶ Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves; be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

¹⁵ Or is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil, because I am good?

⁴¹ Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels;

²⁰ teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

²⁰ for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and kept him safe. And when he heard him, he did many things, and he heard him gladly.

²² thefts, covetings, wickednesses, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, railing, pride, foolishness;

³⁰ But he passing through the midst of them went his way.

³⁷ And all the people of the country of the Gadarenes round about asked him to depart from them, for they were holden with great fear; and he entered into a boat, and returned.

²² But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet;

⁴⁸ and they could not find what they might do, for the people all hung upon him, listening.

¹⁹ And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that very hour, and they were afraid; for they perceived that he spake this parable against them.

¹⁵ for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to withstand or to gainsay.

⁵⁹ They took up stones therefore to cast at him; but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

³⁹ They sought again to take him; and he went forth out of their hand.

⁵³ So from that day forth they took counsel that they might put him to death.

⁹ And the patriarchs, moved with jealousy against Joseph, sold him into Egypt; and God was with him, ¹⁰ and delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favor and wisdom before Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

¹⁶ And it came to pass, as we were going to the place of prayer, that a certain maid having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by soothsaying.

¹⁰ for I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to harm thee; for I have much people in this city.

²⁵ And as he reasoned of righteousness, and self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, Go thy way for this time, and when I have a convenient season, I will call thee unto me.

²¹ Him who knew no sin he made to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

²⁷ neither give place to the devil.

¹⁵ Look therefore carefully how ye walk, not as unwise, but as wise,

¹⁷ Wherefore be ye not foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

⁷ but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men, ⁸ and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.

² that their hearts may be comforted, they being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, that they may know the mystery of God, even of the Father and of Christ,

⁵ Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

¹¹ And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie:

⁵ But if any of you lacketh wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all liberally and upbraideth not, and it shall be given him.

¹⁹ Thou believest that God is one, thou doest well; the demons also believe, and shudder.

¹⁷ But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without variance, and without hypocrisy.

⁵ Or think ye that the scripture speaketh in vain? Doth the spirit that dwelleth in us long unto envying?

⁹ Murmur not, brethren, one against another, that ye be not judged; behold, the judge standeth before the doors.

⁴ unto whom coming, a living stone, rejected indeed of men, but with God elect, precious,

⁷ For you therefore that believe is the preciousness; but for such as disobey, The stone which the builders rejected, The same was made the head of the corner,

¹ Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called children of God. For this cause the world knoweth ye not, because it knew him not.

¹² not as Cain was of the evil one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his works were evil, and his brother's righteous. ¹³ Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hateth you. ¹⁴ We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. ¹⁵ Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer; and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in himself.

⁹ Behold, I give of the synagogue of Satan, of them that say they are Jews, and they are not, but do lie, behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
