²⁷ but I buffet my body, and bring it into bondage; lest by any means, after that I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected.

¹⁶ But unto the wicked God saith: 'What hast thou to do to declare My statutes, and that thou hast taken My covenant in thy mouth?

³⁰ Refuse silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.

²¹ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works? ²³ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

²⁵ For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose or forfeit his own self?

⁴⁵ But if that servant shall say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming, and shall begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken, ⁴⁶ the lord of that servant shall come in a day when he expecteth not, and in an hour when he knoweth not, and shall cut him asunder, and appoint his portion with the unfaithful. ⁴⁷ { And that servant, who knew his lord's will, and made not ready, nor did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes,

²⁶ then shall ye begin to say, We did eat and drink in thy presence, and thou didst teach in our streets, ²⁷ and he shall say, I tell you, I know not whence ye are, depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

²⁵ to take the portion in this ministry and apostleship from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.

¹⁸ and being made free from sin, ye became servants of righteousness. ¹⁹ I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh; for as ye presented your members as servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now present your members as servants to righteousness unto sanctification.

¹³ for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die, but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

¹¹ Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place, ¹² and we toil, working with our own hands; being reviled, we bless, being persecuted, we endure,

¹² All things are lawful for me, but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. ¹³ Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats; but God shall bring to nought both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body:

¹³ Wherefore, if meat causeth my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh for evermore, that I cause not my brother to stumble.

²⁵ And every man that striveth in the games exerciseth self-control in all things. Now they do it to receive a corruptible crown, but we an incorruptible.

¹ If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal. ² And if I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. ³ And if I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profiteth me nothing.

⁴ but in everything commending ourselves, as ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses, ⁵ in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in fastings,

²⁷ in labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness.

⁵ Try your own selves, whether ye are in the faith, prove your own selves. Or know ye not as to your own selves, that Jesus Christ is in you? unless indeed ye be reprobate. ⁶ But I hope that ye shall know that we are not reprobate.

⁵ Put to death therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry,

²² But flee youthful lusts, and follow after righteousness, faith, love, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

¹¹ Beloved, I beseech you as sojourners and pilgrims, to abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul,
