¹ Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me; It is good for a man not to touch a woman. ² But, because of fornications, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. ³ Let the husband render unto the wife benevolence due her; and likewise also the wife unto the husband. ⁴ The wife hath not power over her own body, but the husband; and likewise also the husband hath not power over his own body, but the wife. ⁵ Defraud ye not one the other, except it be by consent for a season, that ye may give yourselves unto fasting and prayer, and come together again, that Satan tempt you not because of your incontinency. ⁶ But this I say by way of concession, not of commandment. ⁷ Yet I would that all men were even as I myself. He that is unmarried is careful for the things of the Lord, how he may please the Lord: ³³ but he that is married is careful for the things of the world, how he may please his wife, ³⁴ and is divided. So also the woman that is unmarried and the virgin is careful for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit; but she that is married is careful for the things of the world, how she may please her husband. ³⁵ And this I say for your own profit, not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is seemly, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction. ³⁶ But if any man thinketh that he behaveth himself unseemly toward his virgin daughter, if she be past the flower of her age, and if need so requireth, let him do what he will, he sinneth not, let them marry. ³⁷ But he that standeth stedfast in his heart, having no necessity, but hath power as touching in his own heart, to keep his own virgin daughter, doeth well. ³⁸ So then both he that giveth her in marriage doeth well, and he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better. ³⁹ A wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth, but if the husband be dead, she is free to be married to whom she will, only in the Lord. ⁴⁰ But she is happier if she abide as she is, after my judgment; and I think that I also have the Spirit of God.

² And Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered and said unto Ezra: 'We have broken faith with our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land; yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing. ³ Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of the LORD, and of those that tremble at the commandment of our God; and let it be done according to the law.

Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow, they toil not, neither do they spin; ²⁹ yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ³⁰ But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? ³¹ Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? ³² For after all these things do the Gentiles seek, for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. ³³ But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. ³⁴ Be not therefore anxious for the morrow; for the morrow will be anxious for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

³ that aged women likewise be reverent in demeanor, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good,

⁸ Faithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire that thou affirm confidently, to the end that they who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men:

¹⁹ Brethren, if any among you err from the truth, and one convert him, ²⁰ let him know, that he who converteth a sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall cover a multitude of sins.

¹ In like manner, the wives, be in subjection to your own husbands, that, even if any obey not the word, they without the word shall be gained by the behavior of their wives, ² beholding your chaste behavior coupled with fear.

⁷ Ye husbands, in like manner, dwell with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor unto the woman, as unto the weaker vessel, as being also joint-heirs of the grace of life, to the end that your prayers be not hindered.

⁷ But the end of all things is at hand; be ye therefore of sound mind, and be sober in your prayers:

¹⁰ according as each hath received a gift, ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God, ¹¹ if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God, if any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength as God supplieth; that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

³ And hereby we know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. ⁴ He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him,

¹⁷ And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof; but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
