⁹ For, I think, God hath set forth us the apostles last of all, as men doomed to death; for we are made a spectacle unto the world, both to angels and men.

²² (44:23) Nay, but for Thy sake are we killed all the day; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

²⁹ And the whole city was filled with the confusion; and they rushed with one accord into the theatre, having seized Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel.

³¹ And certain also of the Asiarchs, being his friends, sent unto him and besought him not to adventure himself into the theatre.

⁸ For we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning our affliction which befell us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life: ⁹ yea, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead: ¹⁰ who delivered us out of so great a death, and will deliver; on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us,

⁸ we are pressed on every side, yet not straitened, perplexed, yet not unto despair, ⁹ pursued, yet not forsaken, smitten down, yet not destroyed, ¹⁰ always bearing about in the body the dying of Jesus, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our body. ¹¹ For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. ¹² So then death worketh in us, but life in you.

⁹ as unknown, and yet well known, as dying, and behold, we live, as chastened, and not killed,

²⁹ because to you it hath been granted in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer in his behalf: ³⁰ having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

³ that no man be moved by these afflictions, for yourselves know that hereunto we are appointed.

⁹ For God appointed us not into wrath, but unto the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, ¹⁰ who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

¹⁴ Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to do service for the sake of them that shall inherit salvation?

³³ partly, being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions, and partly, becoming partakers with them that were so used.

³⁶ and others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yea, moreover of bonds and imprisonment:

⁹ And when he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of them that had been slain for the word of God, and for the testimony of the Lamb which they held: ¹⁰ and they cried with a great voice, saying, How long, O Master, the holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth? ¹¹ And there was given them to each one a white robe, and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a time, until their fellow-servants and their brethren, and the ones that are about to be killed even as they also were, shall be fulfilled.

¹¹ And all the angels were standing round about the throne, and about the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God, ¹² saying, Amen; Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honor, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. ¹³ And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, These that are arrayed in white robes, who are they, and whence came they? ¹⁴ And I said unto him, My lord, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they that come of the great tribulation, and they washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

⁶ And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, even with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I wondered with a great wonder. ⁷ And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou wonder? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and the ten horns.
