⁸ You are not to take a bribe because a bribe blinds the clear-sighted and distorts the words of the righteous.

¹⁹ You must not twist justice, show favoritism, or take bribes, because a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and subverts the speech of the righteous.

³ His sons did not follow Samuel’s example. Instead, they pursued dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice.

¹⁴ But you do see! You take note of trouble and grief in order to take the matter into your own hand. The helpless one commits himself to you; you have been the orphan’s helper.

² Look, the wicked have bent their bow and placed their arrow on the string, to shoot from the darkness at the upright in heart.

⁴ He devises iniquity on his bed and is determined to follow a path that is not good. He does not resist evil.

² Your tongue, like a sharp razor, devises wicked things and crafts treachery.

⁹ Confound them, Lord, and confuse their speech, because I have seen violence and strife in the city. ¹⁰ Day and night they prowl around its walls; evil and iniquity are within it. ¹¹ Wickedness is at the center of it; fraud and lies never leave its streets.

¹⁶ For they run toward evil; these enticers shed blood without hesitation.

¹⁶ For they cannot sleep unless they are doing evil, and they are robbed of their sleep unless they cause someone to stumble.

¹⁵ The one who walks righteously and has spoken sincere words, who rejects gain from extortion and waves his hand, rejecting bribes, who blocks his ears from hearing plots of murder and shuts his eyes against seeing evil—

¹² They take bribes among you to shed blood. You’ve taken usury and exacted interest. You’ve gained control over your neighbor through extortion. And you’ve forgotten me,” declares the Lord GOD.
¹³ “Watch out! I’m vehemently angry about the unjust gains that you’ve earned, and about the blood that has been shed among you.

¹² and because I know that your transgressions are many, and your sins are numerous as you oppose the righteous, taking bribes as a ransom, and turning away the poor in court—

¹ God’s Warning to His People “Woe to those who are crafting iniquity, planning evil well into the night! When morning’s light comes, they carry out their plans because they have the power to do so. ² They covet fields and seize them; they covet houses, and grab them, too. They harass the valiant man, along with his household, an individual and his estate. ³ “Therefore this is what the LORD says, ‘I’m crafting evil against this family, from which you can’t escape. You won’t strut around arrogantly, because the times are evil.’

³ And speaking of evil, they practice it eagerly—with both hands! Both leader and judge demand a bribe, the famous confess their perverted desires, and they scheme together.

³ Then the high priests and the elders of the people assembled in the courtyard of the high priest, who was named Caiaphas. ⁴ They conspired to arrest Jesus by treachery and to kill him.
